The unexpected death of her estranged father has brought her back to the place where love died and a grief filled the place she could never quite grow in. As the daughter of a hoarder, she’s had more than her fair share of feeling like an afterthought… unimportant… invisible. After inheriting her childhood home, Wynter is determined to erase the painful memories of her past one box at a time. While making a fresh start, the last thing she expected to find was love.
Dr. Jaxson Pierre is a single father with an ex-wife who still gives him the blues. Lately, coparenting has seemed to hit a snag and all he wants peace of mind. When a busted ankle lands a voluptuous beauty in the emergency room at St. Ambrose Hospital where he works, Jaxson has no idea that he’s just met the woman who would change his heart.
Sparks fly. A fever ignites. Love blooms.
What happens when you find everything you ever needed when you weren’t looking for it at all?
Wynter’s daddy was rooted in his grief after the death of his wife. He could barely take care of himself let alone his young daughter. Preserving the memory of his wife turned Frost into a full blown hoarder forcing Wynter to live in filth and squalor. When the neighborhood Karen calls CPS, he willingly hands over custody to her aunt. After the death of her dad, Wynter returns to Silver Run, Colorado for the first time in 15 years to renovate the home that was once a house of horrors.
Jaxson is trying his best to maintain a positive co-parenting relationship with his ex-wife for his daughter’s sake but, Amandela is hell bent on making life miserable for him and Jamari. She’s tryin’ her best to get that old thang back but Jaxson said, “Nah! I’m good on you.” When she realizes there are no do overs from her lies and betrayal, Amandela becomes Jaxson and Jamari’s worst nightmare.
Fever was a decent read for me. I liked it but, I didn’t love it. I did love the chemistry between Wynter and Jaxson, how they supported one another, and how Wynter stepped up to be the mother figure Jamari needed. I especially loved when Asia put them paws on Amandela because, she definitely had that azz whoopin’ comin’. Asia gave her exactly what she was askin’ for and I love that for Dela. If you’re lookin’ for a read with minimal angst and plenty of drama between ex-spouses then, Fever is the book you want.
It was deeper than I thought. Poor Wynter. I’m glad she healed her inner child and saved another child. Jaxson is nice because the ex wife would’ve been swimming with the fishies.
This was such a cute and feel good read. I enjoyed both MCs. They had really good banter and I loved watching their relationship develop. Jaxson was such a good dad despite having the ex-wife from hell. And the way that Wynter seamlessly slid in to love up on Jamari was 🥰The side characters were all great too. I love how his family embraced Wynter as one of their own. Her backstory was so emotional but the way Jaxon & her family were there for her to help her through it while she healed herself was great to see. The author told us this was low angst & all the drama was outside of their relationship and it was great to experience just a feel good love story.
I was hoping to feel more emotions by opting in to listen to the audio, but honestly I think it would have been better just to read the book. I wanted much more from the narrators and really wanted them to amplify the story, especially when it came to matters of death, grief, neglect/abuse of parents. I really wanted those emotions pulled out of the narrators, so I could feel it with the characters.
I did enjoy the two MCs stepping in for one another and giving each other what they needed. I also enjoyed how loving both families were for the couple. That kind of Black unity and love is priceless!
I also loved the representation of a loving and present Black father when it came to the teenager. It was beautiful!
I loved this book. It was a really good type of slow burn. I love contemporary romance where we can see them fall in love. 1/5 spice and it fit in perfectly.
Kimberly never disappoints me at all! Love her books period!
This was absolutely amazing. I love the black love, close family vibes , found family that was written beautifully.
I love how Wynter was healing from childhood trauma and found love on the route. I believe that Jaxon was made for her. It was meant for them to find each other.
This was really a feel good book. Yes it had some drama but it wasn’t between the main two characters so it was refreshing to read. I love the black love that was developed between Wynter and Jaxon plus his daughter too. It was so cute!
3.75⭐️🌶️ This book had the best storyline/plot out of the whole series to me. I like the relationship between the FMC and the MMC‘s daughter, and obviously the villain of the story is the ex-wife. She was just nuts.
If you’ve seen my socials, you already know I be all in these streets on this reading journey, okay?! But every once in a while, I take a different route and this book right here was exactly where I needed to land.
From the jump, the relationship between Wynter and Jaxon was everything I needed: peaceful, real, and organic. Their vibe just reminded me why I love LOVE. 🥹 These two felt like a warm hug on a rough day. But don’t get it twisted, we still got a little mess sprinkled in, courtesy of Jaxon’s ex-wife, and baby... I wanted to put her on a T-shirt and send her on her way ASAP. Sis was mad at the wrong one. You fumbled the good man, and now you wanna pop up and sabotage because he found real love? Nah. Not on my watch!
And Wynter? Whew. Beauty, grace, and not a single hair out of place in the face of all that drama. But don’t forget, my girl was dealing with her own heartbreak too. Coming back to her hometown to heal after losing her father...a father who had emotionally checked out years before when her mom passed, was a heavy journey. And somehow, out of that grief, she found joy again in Jaxon. 🫶🏽
Why I Loved It:
✨ The healing was soft, but the love was bold.
💔 The grief felt real, not overly dramatic, just true to life.
❤️🔥 The romance was grown, gentle, and gave what it needed to give.
Fever is such a great read. Wynter and Jaxson’s love story just makes you feel good ! Two people deserving of finding real love and friendship . Wynter’s experience of being a child of a horder really added a layer to the story that really made you understand Wynter’s feeling of not feeling like she belonged anywhere . I love the theme of family and how it doesn’t have to be blood to be just as important as blood relation . Fever is a beautifully written love story , that makes you feel good .
As promised, this book is low angst, sweet love and some drama. There is an immediate attraction between Jaxon and Wynter and the sexiest thing of all....clear communication.
Jaxon's sister and Wynter's cousin were hilarious and honestly low key menaces. I loved watching Wynter build a relationship with Jaxon's daughter Jamari. Another winner from Ms. Brown
One thing Kimberly Brown is going to do is write a mama that you just want to lay hands on. When I tell you the mama in this one had me wanting to box her….whew! Fever had me in all my feelings throughout the whole book. Watching the MCs relationship blossom was so much fun. I enjoyed everything about this story and look forward to devouring more of Kimberly Brown’s book.
Honestly I thought this would have a little more drama or intrigue. I did listen to it on Audible and the female narrator was not it lol but I finished it because I wanted to see how it was be fed between Dr Pierre and Wynter.
This was an okay read. The story was nice and not over done with the drama. I did feel like Wynter’s pov was super repetitive. I found myself skipping her chapters and reading the MMC chapters only. It was a beautiful love story though.
I didn’t want “Fever” to end 😫 I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. The characters, humor, drama, pacing and even the grief, were all done perfectly.
Jaxson (or Jaxon, the spelling alternates throughout the book) and Wynter’s relationship was so cute, but the relationship I enjoyed most was the one Jaxson and Wynter had with Jamari, Jaxson’s daughter. I loved that there was a lot of trust, open communication, and safety for Jamari. Especially with the way Amandela (Jaxson’s ex wife) was treating her.
I needed someone to whoop Amandela’s ass one more time in this book. Asia (Jaxson’s sister) handling her was satisfying, but I needed someone else to be on Amandela’s ass after that. You would’ve thought Asia knocked some sense into Amandela with the way Asia handled her but Amandela was still moving and talking reckless.
Anyway, like I said before, Jaxson and Wynter are cute. I think I’d categorize their love story as instalove, at least on Jaxson’s side. That man’s nose was wide open for Wynter as soon as he met her. He probably would’ve married her within a week of meeting her if he could. Wynter was a little more cautious with her feelings for Jaxson in the beginning. But once she opened herself up to all that Jaxson was offering, Wynter was down bad for him, too.
Again, this story was pretty perfect to me. I wish I could read it for the first time again.
Side note: I could read a book solely about Asia and Tinka’s lives and budding friendship. Those two had me cracking tf up 😂
Losing her father was what brought Wynter back to her childhood neighborhood. It had been rough on her growing up here and she tried her best to keep the bad memories behind. Her mother died giving birth to her so she grew up without a mom. Her dad was doing the best he could to raise her but the grief of losing his wife overtook him. She was taken from him and sent to live with her aunt once child protective service realized how unsafe her living conditions were. She was angry and upset with her father for not trying to better to keep her. Returning home to identify her father's body at the morgue she met Jaxson, the most handsome man she has layed eyes on in a while. Under better circumstances she might have wanted to get to know him but the timing wasn't right. Running into him again at the hospital when she injured herself opened up the opportunity for them again. She agreed on a date and it was the beginning of something beautiful. Jaxson was a single dad to his daughter Jamari. After ending a bad marriage with her mother he gained primary custody of his daughter because her mother could never make her a priority. She created more problems than anything. Running into Wynter was breathtaking for him but after dealing with a bad marriage he wasn't sure if he was ready for another relationship. Something about her wouldn't let him just walk away. He took a chance on love and it developed into something beautiful.
This was a solid read overall and I definitely enjoyed the story, even though it didn’t fully hit the emotional depth I was hoping for.
Wynter and Jaxson had a good foundation. Their connection made sense, and I appreciated how their relationship was built around healing, patience, and showing up for one another. I really liked the themes of grief, starting over, and found family, especially seeing Wynter slowly reclaim her life and sense of self. Jaxson being a present, intentional father was another highlight for me, I always love seeing that kind of representation done right.
That said, listening to the audio made it a little harder for me to fully connect with the characters. The narrators weren’t bad at all, but something about the delivery kept me slightly at arm’s length emotionally. I wanted more feeling pulled out of certain moments, especially when it came to grief, tension with the ex, and those quieter, more vulnerable scenes.
Even with that, the story itself was still good. The pacing worked, the romance was sweet and steady, and the overall message landed. This felt like a comforting, low angst romance with just enough drama on the outside to keep things interesting without overwhelming the love story.
Not a perfect listen for me, but still a book I’m glad I experienced and would recommend if you’re looking for a feel good romance with heart.
I loved the easiness of Jaxson and Wynter’s relationship. They just vibed and connected organically. They met at a time when Wynter was grieving and their paths crossed again a few months later and kept crossing until Jaxson took matters into his own hands and told her he was going to be her new friend and ur was up from there. I loved that they could be silly together and just enjoy their time together. Their relationship was free from internal drama and I loved that for them, but that external drama was a mess. Jaxson’s ex needed to go crawl into a corner and hide somewhere but she just kept popping up with foolishness. She was a horrible human who lacked accountability and she acted so dumb. All she could be concerned it was Jaxson taking her back but never focusing on their child like she should so I was happy that Wynter could step in and give Jamari that mother figure and love she was missing.
I have been enjoying this standalone series and I’m looking forward to the remaining two books being released.
I am a long time fan of Ms. Brown's work so I am familiar with her wtiting style and the way she weaves a storyline together so after reading her author's note I was ready to jump right into this low drama soft love story. The beginning of this book however, felt off to me, like the word choice and the cadence felt like I was reading a less talented author's work. It almost made me tap out because I wasn't vibing with the story or the characters but I stuck with it and about halfway through it finally pulled me completely in and didn't let me go until "The End". I love how much of a family they all became to each other - and while there was no drama between Jaxon and Wynter, as the authors note suggests there was still indeed some drama. I hate the type of woman Dela was, but I am glad that Wynter became all that she was to Mari and I love how Ms Tabitha past connected to Wynter's. Despite the sad beginning, this had several LOL and feel good moments. I really liked the epilouge too.
As a first time reader of this author, I enjoyed this story. I hate what Wynter had to experience as a kid dealing with neglect and hoarding. But I also felt just as bad for Jamari dealing with a betch of a mom, who truly didn't give a care about her daughter and put her in harm's way. I love the connection and chemistry between Jaxson and Wynter and the love that came to be. It was healing in a lot of ways for them both but it was everything that they needed. The love, support, encouragement, and protection from their families complemented their budding relationship. Time doesn't matter when it's right and no need to put off things for what someone else might perceive to be rushing or too fast. Everything happens differently for everyone and I'm glad that Wynter and Jaxson accepted this. I love how full circle things happen for Wynter... She found healing and love in the one place that she lost it years before.
what a beautiful story about healing and finding love
This book was heavy but it was also healing. The childhood trauma Wynter experienced was so sad. Grief has a profound way of making you forget about living and you just switch to existing. It was so sad and heartbreaking. I also felt sorry for Jamari. That little girl just wanted her mother to love her and that piece of 💩 mother just didn’t want to. I am so glad that Wynter showed up for her to heal Jamari. Jaxson came into Wynter’s life to heal her heart and restore her faith in love. Wynter came into his life to give him and his daughter the love they both deserved. I also cried a couple of times while reading this book. 5 star read.. I love love stories like this. Not too much drama, little to no messiness and the characters take their time falling in love with each other.
Kimberly Brown, to the front of the class. Ma'am you had me in tears. The connection between Jamari and Wynter, my heart couldn't take it.
It was like you showed us the years that were not told for Wynter but under different circumstances. Wynter was strong and resilient. She gave to others what she expected from her ol' man. Talk about grief. It was the cancer in this story. Woven so well within the pages of love and freedom. True love, actually.
Jaxson, he was a father. Raised by the best to continue that tradition with certainty. Dela was filth, and her greed and shallow nature got her exactly what she deserved. Asia for the win, though, because the way I laughed was unhealthy.
This book had me going to bed at 2 a.m with a work start time at 7:30.
Wynter you could say had daddy issues although he was in her life but grief took over his life in which he lost custody of Wynter. BUT Wynter really dung through her issues especially with her Aunt Kira and cousin Tink being by her side. Her return home definitely turn a negative (and her own grief) into a positive with meeting Dr. Jaxson. Their budding love definitely helped Wynter overcome what she may have thought she’ll never have or experience. Jamari was so cute with the relationship she built with Wynter. I felt for Jamari on how her own mother Dela treated her BUT Wynter stepped right in and helped restore a mother’s love. Great read of this Love in Scrubs series!
Fever is the love story of Wynter and Jaxson. It’s a slow burn where he’s a single dad that falls first.
Wynter grew up where her mother died in childbirth and her father neglected her. So much so that she was placed with her Aunt by DCFS. This affected Wynter by making her a loner with a career of carrying for children abandoned and in the system.
Jaxson was married and betrayed by his wife. He’s a pathologist who’s been raising his daughter alone with the help of his family. He meets Wynter at the hospital and an attachment forms.
The book is about them falling love, dealing with becoming a family despite his ex-wife’s interference. This is a sweet satisfying love story where Wynter & Jaxson get their HEA. Borrowed this from Kindle unlimited.
The cover is awesome, Dr. Jaxon Pierre has been added to the book bae cover collection for 2025. 🔥🔥. I felt so bad for Wynter and the way she grew up. The author handled Wynter's father's struggles very delicately. I have a better understanding to what he was going through. I have a family member that has the same struggles. Loved all the supporting characters. Wynter's cousin Takayla and her aunt Kira. Jaxson's family was awesome. There are some other surprises in the book which I'm not going to mention. Must read it to find out. 😉😉. I don't want to be a spoiler. Jaxon and Wynter got their HEA. Sex scenes were 🔥🔥 and🌶🌶. Kudos to the author you never let me down👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
A beautiful love story from start to finish! Jaxson and Wynter complete none another in so many ways! Grief is hard and everyone has different ways dealing with their grief, unfortunately Wynter was subjected to being neglected by her dad during this time period. Fortunately, Wynter had an aunt and cousin that was Moore than enough for her as they provided her with love, care and respect! Jaxson had to deal with an ex wife, who didn't want to be a mother, she was just trifling. I love how Jaxson was handling being a single parent, thankfully he had strong family support! I love the epilogue!
