GOODBYE, DO NOT RESUSCITATE, I HAVE ASCENDED TO THE ETHER.
i knew from the minute city of ruin wrapped up that this novella would fully kill me and bury me and resurrect me and kill me again and just keep me in an eternal loop of joy and suffering. and charissa — as usual — delivered. she more than delivered. i’m literally still panting.
this has everything. ALL OF THE THINGS THAT I LOVE AND TREASURE AND VALUE SO DEARLY in my romance books. enemies to lovers. BANTER. SO MUCH BANTER — specifically the teasing, horny, this-is-really-just-foreplay kind. so many 'good girl's that my soul quite literally left my body. LETTERS. THERE ARE LETTERS, written in neri’s own hand. and, of course, i will never not be completely, unapologetically feral for a powerful MMC who challenges but lovingly submits to his feisty, badass FMC.
not to mention the plot picks up directly at the conclusion of city of ruin, so we get a few answers to some questions that plagued my entire existence for months, while also opening an entirely new can of cursed worms that adds even more to a complex, multi-character plot overarching the entire series. this hits the ground running immediately and doesn’t slow down for the duration of its (all too brief, in my humble, obsessed opinion) length. and the spice? ruin my entire life. charissa is the queen of cockblocking her own characters and making you work for that payoff. but my god, is it worth it.
charissa’s ability to tell simultaneous stories that are all so rich and interesting that you’re emotionally invested in every single one of them is nothing short of witchcraft. i laughed. i cried. i frothed at the mouth. what i love most about this series is how three dimensional the characters feel, and while i knew i was going to love this novella simply by the virtue of it being about a god (i am but a simple girl with simple wants), getting to spend some time in nephele’s head was a delight. she’s truly a goddess, simultaneously keeping neri on his toes while also taking care of business.
“i’m going to show you just how little it takes to bring the god of the white wolf to his proverbial knees.”
brb, i am literally on MY knees. for neri. for nephele. for this novella. SOS.
this is one of the ARCs i was most excited for this year, and it’s an honor and a privilege to gently but enthusiastically yell at all of you to please read this series and especially this novella when it releases on march 28.
if anyone needs me, i’ll be howling at the moon in a lust-filled fugue state until the next book drops in the fall.
I knew when the dedication said, “For the readers who have always liked a big, bad wolf” this would be a 5 star ⭐️ read and it DELIVERED on all promises.
My only complaint is that I wish this was longer and not a novella because I NEED more of the Nephele and Neri ♥️
These last weeks have been a battle of wills and want, a fight with yearning. It’s been so long since I’ve been capable of succumbing to carnal longings, and I’ve been captivated by her for enough years now that it’s difficult not to imagine kissing that soft skin, tangling my fingers in her silken hair, and whispering against her ear how badly I want her.
A witch and a god battling the intense sexual tension between them while shit is going down.
I was so excited once I found out this novella mainly follows Nephele and Neri, but damn I did not expect Charissa to turn up the steam level from 6 to 10!!
CHAPTER 30 should be placed in the hall of fame as one of the spiciest scenes in the history of Romantasy.
The build up and the pay off was *chef's kiss*
And it's not just about the steam, but they had such a powerful chemistry that was at times tender—despite Neri being a stoic immortal but he only softens and submits to Nephele.
My face is still flustered and that's says something.
--------- i'm going to get destroyed by this book but i'm here for it🥹["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
"I don't want your 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳, Nephele. I want your 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳."
By the end of book 3 in her debut fantasy series, Charissa has brought to life one of the most amazing stories I've ever read and created a lifelong fan out of this reader.
I am completely enthralled with this world, these characters and the expertly-woven and fascinating mystery unfolding before us.
Picking up exactly where we left off at the end of City of Ruin, our favorite characters are reeling from the devastation that took place on top of Mount Ulra. We follow along with Nephele, Neri, Alexus, Colden, Fleurie and the crew as they try to determine what moves to make together, what moves to make apart and how to forge a path forward- not only to stop a looming war with Thamaos, but to unearth the secrets of the past in order to find the answers they need to secure their future.
Nephele & Neri's character development as individuals and the growth of their relationship is everything I hoped for and more.
I LOVE Nephele's strength and bravery, and experiencing her embrace everything she is on a deeper level in this novella was electrifying - she is unapologetic in her power and her personality leaps from the pages. She is one of my favorite FMCS of ALL TIME.
Neri - NERIIII - Nerrriiii 😏🥵 - this god, this man, this wolf, he is unmatched. The amount of highlights that consist solely of his smart mouth and quick wit in < 300 pages is wildly unreasonable - but I am nothing if not a sucker for a morally grey man who's soft for only her.
If this is the first review you're seeing for this series some of the things you'll find:
• Enemies to lovers • Touch her and die • Found family • Soft for only her • Multiple POV • Morally grey/villainous love interests • Gods, witches, unique magic system • Powerful FMCs • Spice 🔥 & sooooo much more
If I could recommend one series for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I do not say that lightly. Go, run, read, then message me so we can obsess together ♥️
“I want to be the woman who wields a god against Thamaos. I want to be the woman who wields you.”
Tbh I don’t know what I want to rate this book. I can’t put my finger on what I feel like the story is missing because the lore and plot itself have all the ingredients to make me want to love it. Nephele and Neri started off strong and interesting. A witch and a God who are eternally bound to one another. In turn, being the powerful God of the North that Neri is, Nephele is able to wield him as her own personal weapon. Except nothing of this sort ever happens…Unless it was in the bedroom and even during their private moments I felt more irritated than not.
Basically, a bit of everything and nothing happens in this book. You learn a little more about Alexus and Raina’s history and receive answers to a few lingering questions. It felt a lot like filler content however I really enjoyed this couple’s romance the most (minus the villain ship which I look forward to seeing in the next book). Their banter was top tier and the chemistry was delicious. There are parts near the end of the third half that felt a bit rushed and even more so at the very end.
Overall, I enjoyed it. But I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to.
Oh I am MAD. I was so excited to read this book and it had the AUDACITY to be about the Wolf and the Witch? Nope. I do normally love this kind of romance but I have such strong feelings about the other couple I couldn't even care.
4.5 stars. I didn't expect to love this so much, considering the cliffhanger we were left clinging to after City of Ruin, but love it, I did.
There's so much substance and purpose and beauty in this novella. It progresses the plot and answers questions while posing new ones, and I am absolutely invested in character arcs of the White Wolf and his witch. White wolves? and their witch? 🤔 IYKYK 🐺🐺🐺.
THE ALEXUS CRUMBS?! 😭😭😭
Somebody save me because I am dying for Kingdom of the Forgotten.
This was the quintessential ‘side-character’ book, which I’m not a fan.
Part of the problem is obvious. It is a big deviation from the main plot line established in the previous two books in this case. Second, your favorite characters from the main plot line are just absent in the side-character book. Third, I just didn’t find the main protagonists, Nephele and Nero, or their side quest all that interesting. Fourth, the side plot hangs up on my least favorite trope in Fantasy, . Finally, it feels a bit disingenuous, like a ploy to extend a series and sell more books.
Plus, I may have found a book that has reached my steam tolerance. Not something I thought possible, but there you go; and it was a discernible notch up from the previous two books, IMO, so it caught me be surprise.
I’m that song by nelly fertado “I’m like a bird”, but I’m flying away into Neri’s arms since he loves birds so much. And I love wolves so it’s a win-win. And you know what I love more than one wolf? Three.
This book is absolutely PHENOMENAL. A fantastic novella to provide answers to some questions left from City of Ruin… and also provides more questions.
Neri and Nephele’s character arcs move well with the plot and to be honest, I cannot say any more than that without spoilers.
18+ !!! Idc it’s gonna get the 5from me . I loved these two lol Neri & Nephale have great banter, hot sexy times and their TENSION -sweet nibblits, and their like slight slow development of feelings was a nice push n pull!
If you don’t like some smut maybe just don’t pick this one up. PERSONALLY I felt this moves the plot forward(not much) but you do get answers, a few more questions and a funny little pairing. A confident ass wolf God, and a bad ass lil Witch that can take care of herself. I liked them better than Alexus & Reina 🤷🏾♀️ but I think that’s cause Neri gives more “confident on the outside but sweet (for Neph) on the inside & Alexus is more outwardly kind to all and sweet but in the more intimate times between him & Reina is more “confident”.
ANYWAY like I said the plot isn’t moved forward much from the 2nd but I do think the info given makes up for it and considering it’s a novella n pretty short ig I don’t think the edging took away from the story lol following these two was a joy. 🤩 who woulda thought I’d love Neri.. not meee 🤭🤣
I've been a little obsessed with Charissa Weaks' Witch Walker series, so The Wolf and the Witch "novella" (don't let her fool you, it's the size of a "normal" full length novel) was yet another one of my most anticipated 2023 reads. And WOW - I feel like it's crazy to say, but I loved this MORE than the main series! You do not want to miss out on this book.
I'll be vague about the plot to avoid spoilers since this book takes place after the CRAZY ending of City of Ruin. Suffice to say, there are some really big reveals in this one that I was SO surprised about. Definitely essential reading before continuing with the rest of the series!
While it does move the overall story forward, The Wolf and the Witch primarily focuses on Neri and Nephale. Nephale has made a bargain with Neri to essentially wield him as her own personal weapon in exchange for resurrecting him. While the stakes are high and the story is just as intense as the previous two novels, the relationship between Neri and Nephale was SO fun. Their banter is AMAZING - legitimately hilarious at times and absolutely smoldering at others. After coming across as kind of a jerk before, Neri is SO respectful of Nephale and shows a vulnerability that was just so sweet. I still love Alexus, but maybe I'm Team Neri now? I also might be a little bit in love with Nephale. She is smart, strong, and a true leader in this one - I love that Neri tends to defer to her!
And the spice! OMG. This one had me fanning myself - the scene in the cottage? IYKYK.
I'm SO thrilled that I was able to read this ARC, thank you SO much Charissa Weaks for letting me join as one of your Rebel Readers! I cannot wait to see where this story goes next, I am HOOKED.
I didn't plan to read this, but I did hope that eventually I will get swept by the story, but it didn't happen.
I'm not saying this was a bad book, by any means. It's well written and if you can connect to the characters, you will probably love it, but for me, it was just a whole lot of timey-wimey for nothing. I'm not exactly sure I can pinpoint the reason for the existence of this story other than.. why not?! I guess. Sure, it was full of "hints" (and by that I mean confirmation) about what is going on plot-wise with Raina and Alexus and maybe something about the rest of the cast, but other than that, this was giving me the vibe of writing fanfiction about the side character for the fun.
Again, it is not bad, (hence the 3 stars, still) I just feel like it was a lukewarm filler. If anything, it gave me ACOFAS vibes, in a sense.
I have received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ Spice Meter: 🌶️🌶️ (rounded up for the kink) Chemistry: 🔥🔥
I thought I loved this series before this book… & now I KNOW it is going to be an ALL TIME FAVOURITE! - which I will take every opportunity to tell everyone to read! (Seriously - read this series if you love a perfectly written Romantasy with smart plot twists, beautiful prose & delectable spice!)
After the cliffhanger of B2 I was surprised how excited I was for this novella (it’s a big novella! Lol) because it follows two different characters. But I just knew it would be good because Charissa doesn’t do anything without a purpose, & let’s just say… I wasn’t disappointed!
The heartbreak I felt watching the fallout from the ending of City of Ruin was palpable, the continuation of the story was intriguing BUT the romance & love story between Neri & Nephele was PERFECTION ❤️🔥
How can Charissa write such badass FMC’S? How can she write such exquisite MMC’s???
Because honestly I love them together more than I thought possible!!! (Also the spice 🥵 it was slow burn just like I like it, but WOW - once it got there!!)
I’m so SO excited for B4… I will inhale it just like I did this one… & ill continue to scream from the rooftops that everyone needs to read this series!!
In this book, we (mainly) follow the story of Nephele and Neri. The narrative is exciting, dangerous, and steamy, with elements of mystery and magic 👌.
Their journey is filled with obstacles and unanswered questions as they navigate their intertwined fates. There is plenty of passion, despite some animosity in the beginning.
I was greatly entertained and enjoyed the tension in this book just as much as in the previous ones. I did wish to hear more about what happened to Raina, but I’m guessing that will be covered in the next book 🤞. I can't wait to find out what’s next for Nephele, Raina, and their men!
NERI SUPREMACY !! Now why did these side characters have a better story than the main ones 🤣 This def reminded me of Tower of Dawn in that it focuses on a small portion of the characters in a smaller setting. I love how we were able to get a fun, fleshed out love story while also continuing the main plot in a much shorter book than before. I am absolutely dying to see what’s going on with Raina but I’m glad that’s saved for the next book since there would’ve been too much going on here.
People are skipping this novella?!!! HOW?! This was PERFECTION! And the spice….. oh good GOD, UNMATCHED! I absolutely adore Nephele and Neri and am so happy we got the opportunity to see their relationship grow. Is Neri ant match for Alexus, no of course not, but watching his humanity unfold melted my heart! And I absolutely loved how the plot continued to develop even without Raina’s POV, WE LEARNED SO MUCH AND GOT SO MANY ANSWERS!
BUT I NEED MORE! November cannot come soon enough!!!
LOLLLL okay we’ve lost the plot entirely. I was excited by the end of the second book, and this did not carry that momentum forward. I was annoyed at first because this novella was not following that plot line, but we got a few answers so I started to be invested again. And then the smut took over and we lost the plot for the spice. And subpar spice at that. It felt like the author was just jam-packing in every cliche; it was genuinely laughable at times. I might pick this series back up when it returns to the main plot line, but I’m gonna need a minute to forgive the author for putting me through the experience of listening to it.
