I’m haunted by a childhood of abuse.

Ten years ago, the Van Dorens rescued me from a megachurch cult where the leader kept me as his. I’ve spent a decade trying to escape my past.

But that past refuses to let me go. The cult leader’s voice lingers in my mind and his figure is always there in my peripheral vision. He reminds me that I’m his, I’m filled with sin, and I’m going to hell if I don’t join him in death like I should have when he was murdered.

The day Gracen fills my office with phone books, I discover that his presence silences the voice incessantly filling my head. As we get closer, the voice gets louder until one day, Gracen realizes that the cult leader isn’t in my head at all. He's haunting me—tormenting me—even in death.

For those who follow the Van Doren series, prepare to jump ten years into the future! Which first off, was a ton of fun to see where everyone was at and all the kids of the couples we have come to get to know and love. And it made me extra excited for the stories yet not told but are on the way! Another thing to know that this story follows Malin aka William, the boy we saw in Avory and Ellory’s story that they rescued from a megachurch cult. He changed his name to try and escape his past but ten years later he is still suffering. Malin has spent the last ten years still tying to heal from the hell he spent his first fourteen years in. He’s been doing everything he can to heal but the truth of the matter is, he can still see and hear his abuser at every turn. It never stops and he. Has no idea what to do. But then something happens. A change that gives him quiet moments and the source? Gracen. Gracen has been at the Van Doren Estate the last four years to help those still trying to track down the members of the megachurch cult even all these years later. And coming to the Estate, he is enthralled by Malin. But he knows Malin has been through a lot. He would never do anything to make him uncomfortable or hurt. So he has watched but kept his distance hoping for Malin to one day see him too. But then a piece of advice later and a sweet and meaningful gesture, Malin finally looks up. And to Gracen’s upmost surprise? Malin tells Gracen that he brings Malin peace. And for Gracen, well he will do anything to help Malin and be by his side. Even getting rid of horrible spirits. I actually loved this story! First because we get to see the future of everyone a bit more clearly, but also of course Malin and Gracen. They took me by surprise by their love story. Gracen was so sweet and kind and just finally understood what Malin has been telling everyone for so long. He was exactly what Malin needed to help him clear the path to truly begin his healing journey. They were adorable. And after everything Malin has been through, he needed someone to see him and understand him and just be there to hold him and listen. Just an overall great story with an interesting twist and satisfying ending to a hard earned happy ending.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was hoping Malin would get a book. And he's a character that definitely deserves a HEA. We first we're introduced to him in Avory & Ellory's book where he was William the boy that was rescued from the island and 10 years later Ryan is still haunting him but everything changes when Gracen takes a interest in Malin and becomes his peace and home.
His story was a bit different in the direction I had assumed originally it would go, but it was a trust in the process and was well worth it.
We get some old favorites and one new one that I'm sure will be getting a more in depth book very soon.

Crea Reitan’s Malin, is an emotionally charged story that takes us to the dark corners of trauma and recovery. ❤️‍🩹

The story follows Malin, who has spent the last ten years escaping the demons of his past after being rescued from a megachurch cult. This sad story sets the stage for a gripping tale that dives deep into the struggles faced by this survivor of abuse.

He was raised by two of the Van Doren triplets after rescuing him from the cult he was held prisoner in. It’s not necessary to read that book, as most of the information is given to you in this one, but it does give you insight into the twins (taboo) relationship and their love for Malin (they treat him as a son.)

From the very first page, the author drags us into Malin's world. His haunting memories of the cult leader and the dark nature of psychological abuse are so sad. I liked how the author uses the cult leader’s voice as a character, for me it just amplifies the horror of unresolved trauma, creating a tension throughout the story. I had tissues ready 🤧

Malin’s journey of healing is written with raw honesty. His struggle to reclaim his identity while dealing with the shadow of his abuser is heartbreaking. Malin has to be one of my favourite characters, he’s, written with flaws and strengths that made him feel real. I found myself rooting for him as he confronts his fears and seeks freedom from his tormentor’s influence.

Gracen adds a refreshing dynamic to the story. His quirky approach, symbolized by the phone books he floods into Malin's office, serves as an unexpected lifeline for him. I did chuckle when I first read that moment.
Gracen’s character brings warmth and humor to the story, easing the heavy themes with moments of levity. The chemistry between Malin and Gracen develops gradually, and I’m glad it did, I don’t think it would have suited the story if it had been and instalove moment.

The romance blossoms amidst the trauma, showing us how love can be both a sanctuary and a catalyst for healing.
The relationship between Malin and Gracen is not just about attraction, but about understanding and support, making it one of my favourite reads of the author.

Malin (Van Doren)" is a must read. But be prepared to cry 😢

Ok, I really, really, really love the Van Doren part of the Creaverse. Like... really love them.

I need to go back and read the other books and I hope we will have more because these unconventional m0f0s are absolutely amazing.

I've read Oxley first and while I liked it, I didn't know how I'll feel reading this one. I went into it a little hesitant, but wow... this book was amazing.

Malin, well... his story is not easy to read, I'll tell you that. It is heavy for the heart, and for so long during my read I felt the need to cry for my baby. His life story is heartbreaking, but it shows just how strong he is, how beautiful and sweet, and innocent in some ways.

Gracen is a King. Bless his soul, he is everything. He loves Malin so freaking much. It is a privilege to have a front row seat to their growing love. He noticed Malin in a way not many did, and the most important part was that he listened to him. He did not invalidate his feelings, he did not judge him, he did not belittle him. He was gentle in his approach, heck, his love is gentle and so powerful it helped Malin banish his old demons and start living his life authentically, happily.

Them together are everything.

If you expect spice... don't. This book doesn't have that. What it does have is intimacy, and it is even better. I haven't felt the need for spice even for 1s reading this book, and it was a nice change of pace.

This is for sure in top 5 fav books from Crea. It touched me in ways I did not expect.

As always, the way the author speaks about current world issues in her books is mesmerizing. It is not subtle, she says it as it is, and this books is basically what the consequences will look like if the world continues to do what it does now.

This book was a reality check, a wake up call, an alarm signal, call it however you want, but in the end what matters is that it is real, and it hurts.

I can't wait for more books in the Van Doren family, Voss... baby, I don't know why, but I can't wait for your story... and surprisingly for Kairo's as well? Huh... what a strange thing to say after Oxley.

Knowing that this was following the survivor they rescued off the island back in Avory/Ellory and Imry's book, I just knew that this book would take me on an emotional journey.

Malin was so strong but so haunted by his past. My heart broke for him even more learning even more about what he endured at the hands of that monster. Ten years later and we still see that the trauma had such a major impact in his life and in his mind. Crea showed the impact of what those type of events can do to survivors, even years later. Not everyone heals the same way and in one way or another, there are still the lasting thoughts/memories haunting them at every turn.

Gracen was captivated by Malin from the first time he saw him but knew Malin's past and knew if anything would happen, he would need to take it slow. Years later and he was still yearning for the man from afar, until one moment and everything changed. He was such a sweet sweet patient man. He was understanding and made sure that above all else, Malin felt safe and comfortable in every aspect.

Gracen was exactly who and what Malin needed to move on from his past and start his healing journey. Malin finally found someone who loved him as he was and made him feel important. While this touches on some very dark topics and takes you on such an emotional rollercoaster, we also get a glimpse at soo many new characters and second gen kids.

I know Crea's universes are always so vast but seeing a glimpse of these kids from my favorite unhinged family, I can't wait to see what is in the future from the Van Doren's.

Ryan Johnston the cult leader and Malin’s abuser, still lives in Malin’s head, even though he’s long dead. Malin was his favorite boy, to praise and to punish.
Malin, traumatized, indoctrinated, and brainwashed, constantly hears and sees him. Telling him he’s a sinful boy who will end up in hell, and should have died just like Ryan.

Gracen is also a Van Doren, he works for them. The head of the Van Doren family, is Jalon Van Doren, who is Gracen’s great uncle.
Gracen is intrigued by and attracted to Malin, he watches him, daily!

“If you’re waiting for him to notice you, it’s never going to happen.”

Somehow, when Malin is with Gracen, the voices in his head are silent.

To give you a short impression of the Van Dorens.
It all started with Jalon Van Doren and his five sons.
The Van Dorens are super rich; they bought a large estate, and all the family members have their own place on the property. The family expanded enormously, there’s even a school.
After Malin was freed from the cult about ten years ago, Avory and Ellory adopted the then fourteen-year-old Malin as theirs.

Prepare yourself for a harsh read, alternating with some sweetness. Malin’s struggle felt very real and palpable. What he has been through was deeply hurtful. The conclusion was well thought out.
Overall, I loved this story; it was well written, felt honest and real, and had a good pace.
I think this family provides an inexhaustible source of inspiration! Awesome!

"I want to be important to someone. I want to be loved." - Malin

"I need to find a way to make him laugh often. It puts him at ease." - Gracen

This book takes place 10 years after Avory & Ellory; the next generation in this family has grown so much. This book is about a character that was introduced in Avery & Ellory and changed his name to Malin. I'm so glad to read more about him, because I really wanted to know more about him and to know that he's finally really loved, he has found a family, and he's happy. Malin is struggling with his past on a daily basis; he still hears the voice of his abuser, and Gracen is the one that silences that. He feels safe and at peace around Gracen. Gracen is very sweet and makes sure that they can slowly explore their feelings for each other while being mindful of Malin's triggers and boundaries.

It's important that they keep communicating, and that's what they do. They got to know more about his struggles and found a way to help him that allows him to slowly start to heal and enjoy moments with his family. This is such a beautiful and heartbreaking book. Malin has felt so alone all those years, and this is his journey in finding peace and happiness again. He deserves to heal from his past, and his amazing partner (Gracen) saw parts of him that nobody else understood and helped him find himself again.

"No matter what, family comes first. We do anything to protect family."

You may be thinking, who is Malin? I love that with the Van Doren clan, there is no limit to the love and compassion they have for people, and that is proof with Malin - aka William, the boy rescued in Avory & Ellory - as he's accepted into the family after the events of the Mega Cult.

This is a book about healing, of dealing with your demons - real, haunting demons that won't leave you no matter how much time passes. It's about finding that person that not only silences those demons, but helps you remove them entirely, and that's who and what Gracen is for Malin. What started out as sweet romance turned into undeniable lended strength, protection, and help to truly banish the demon that haunts Malin.

I loved that this was set years down the track from the main Van Doren storyline - we get glimpses into the future of our infamous family, and I love that Reitan's been able to expand on their stories whilst exploring Malin and Gracen's. As Reitan warns, this one does contain slight spoilers for couples we've yet to see in the man VD series, but if anything, it made me want to get my hands on their full books even more with the future teasers she's dropped into our laps.

This is a story of healing, of romance and letting yourself be seen by those you love, and honesty. It's about taking a chance, seeking comfort when you need it, and rising above your demons with inner strength you might not have known you possess.

Another great story from Reitan, and looking forward to more in her universe soon.

Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.

Gracen Van Doren hunts down the mega church followers. Giving them the endings they deserve. He does it because the evil needs to be introduced to the Van Doren style of justice. He is also totally entranced with Malin Van Doren.

Wow. So far all the Van Doren’s have been charismatic but Malin and Gracen are by far my favorites. Gracen is an unapologetic killer but he is still manages to be a sweetheart. Malin has had such a sad life. And the saddest part is he didn’t realize how sad it was until he was welcomed into the Van Doren fold.

I really liked how careful Gracen was with Malin. For that matter, how the whole family treated him carefully without treating him like he was delicate. Their relationship was controlled by Malin but they both had full participation.

The jump ahead in time allowed the readers to become acquainted with the future offsprings of the family. The children were entertaining and their personalities were definitely as diverse as their parents. But they all loved Gracen.

Overall this was a heartwarming story of two men who shouldn’t have worked out, but did very well.

When I read a the epilogue after Avory & Ellory book and read about William changing his name to Malin Van Doren I was intrigued. So I read the book the other day. My heart broke for Malin in so many ways. He was fighting hard trying everything everyone suggested and 2/3 thirds were there to support him. One of the lines that hurt my heart was Most abused children grow up to be abusers not in Malins case thank goodness Gracen was a bit stalkerish lol come on now he’s a Van Doren lol any who this book is about healing and it’s truly beautiful that he had a great support system but that he trusted gracen enough to do things on his time and with consent. Gracen saw What nobody else saw Was Malin true struggle overall this book is beautiful bloody Van Doren and lots of babies and kids as well as growing family’s Malin gets his Happily ever after and that’s the most important part because everything was taken from him Gracen & Malin Van Doren

Wow this was incredible

I wondered about Malin (previously William) the boy who was rescued from the cultist island by the triplets.

Sheesh the trauma and abuse was severe.

10 years later we have Gracen now living on the estate, a Van Doren cousin and a man infatuated with Malin.

Malin begins to find peace within Grace's presence. He feels safe and quiets the noise of Ryan.

“Has he figured out that I can’t hear him when I’m close to Gracen?”

This was so beautiful. I loved their story.

“I’m in a completely separate world where Malin is taking comfort in me.”

I loved seeing all the previous characters too and all the little ones running around. What an incredible family Crea Reitan has created with her CreVerse.

I am so glad to see Ryan not haunting Malin anymore. He can truly heal now and with Gracen at his side he can absolutely find real love, affection and comfort.

Beautiful book

Honestly, Malin gripped me from the very first page. For those who don't remember William, he is the young kid who was saved by Avory and Ellory in their story. Now it's ten years later, he's changed his name to Malin Van Doren, and he is still being haunted by his "father", he still doesn't really know his place, and while he gets to continue with what was started all those years before, it doesn't really help.

Enter Gracen, a Van Doren, who was brought in four years previously to help track the mega cult that Malin was saved from. He can't help but notice Malin, even when he doesn't exactly notice him back. But the two have a bond that flourishes the moment the voices quieten every time that Gracen is around.

The story is written brilliantly, and consent is a key feature throughout. Gracen never pushes the boundaries unless Malin asks him to, and it makes their relationship perfect. The moment I started, I just couldn't put it down and I'm so glad that Malin got his HEA.

As the author notes: this takes place 10 years after the rescue/events of "Avory & Ellory" Book 3.5. Malin is not a Van Doren by blood, but by a legal name change at 18 years old, so this is forbidden/pseudo-cest with a Van Doren cousin, but there is no blood relation.

This was a heavy book in that Malin is still suffering mentally from the abuse in his past because he constantly has the cult leader's ghost badgering him. Ellory and the rest of the family and kids are all supportive and tries to take care of Malin as best they could, because they don't know how to resolve his PTSD.

I loved that Malin was able to find peace with Gracen and that Gracen is so patient with Malin in helping him try to overcome his trauma. That twist of having a touch of paranormal suprised me, but I'm glad Gracen figured it out and was able to help Malin resolve his haunting. Medium-burn and lots of family wholesomeness (and lots of kids names). It was a bit of a mind-warp to wrap my head around so many kids and their relation to the previous generations of Van Dorens that we became familiar with in previous books.

This is technically the "next generation" of Van Dorens and I'm so excited for any future next generation and current generation books coming in the future!

The Van Doren's are one of my favorite series by Crea Reitan and this book just brought that truth home for me. What an exceptional story my heart bled for Malin and what he went through as a child and even into adulthood. There is so much trauma surrounding him. We first saw him in another book and I was so excited to see he had his own story. Malin who was originally Willam was saved by the Van Dorens from a horrific cult and a man named Ryan who was the leader. He was taken in by the Van Dorens and was given a new identity. Malin is a man on a mission and that is to take out the people left from the Cult. Gracen is silently watching and waiting for Malin to see him. He is intrigued and attracted to him but wont push him. When Malin finally comes to him he finds his peace. There are so many twists and wow factors that I don't want to give any away. I didn't see that twist coming but wow i loved every second of it. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.

Malin has been saved by Van Doren 10 years ago. Now he still being haunted by the past. Gracen ever since Malin arrived at the Van Doren compound, he’s been fascinated by him. One day that changes when Malin realizes Gracen bring in peace.

Malin deserve the world from what happened to him. I like how he’s living his own life. And getting the help that he needs. That the twins are his parent figures. And that the whole family wants to make sure he’s safe and loved. And that he’s gained the strength and found the confidence to be with Gracen. He is able to be held and touched without having a problem. Gracen this man is so patient. And that he is willing to wait and watch Malin from a distance. Will do anything his power to protect him.

Another Van Doren found love in this dark world. I like how supportive this family is. Will do everything within their power to protect and support one another. I cannot wait to see the next Van Doren Find love.

This is set 10 years in the future. Everybody is already paired up with kids. Daddy Jalon, Kairo, etc all have partners. There are no spoilers except maybe in the last chapter. I have been saying Daddy Jalon and Levis end up together and I think they do!

Malin, aka William in Avory and Ellory’s book, finally finds peace and happiness. With an unknown, just like Oxley. But Gracen is so good with Malin. He has the perfect amount of patience. And discovering that Malin was literally haunted by his abuser’s ghost….genius.

This made me cry. I’m so happy to see Malin find his HEA. Next up is Voss. I’m glad to see my early prediction of him pairing with Brek is coming to fruition. Imry’s and Avory and Ellory’s books caused me to start doubting the pairing.

Per Crea’s website we will be getting Auden (not remembering who they are), Arath and Elgin, Rhodes!, Daddy Jalon, and Kairo books. I love this series.

This was different from the other books in the series and I appreciated that very much. We met Malin in Avory and Ellory and I wondered what his story was from his point of view and I’m glad we got to read about. Poor Malin has been through so much and deserves every bit of good that comes his way which is why I’m so happy he met Gracen. I loved Gracen for Malin, he’s so caring, patient and observant. He saw what Malin needed and did what he could to give it to him without question. I loved that he started wearing two shirts so he could give Malin comfort when he needed it and the phone books! I loved the family dynamic as always and I liked the glimpses we got of all the changes that took place within the family. I love this series and I’m excited for Voss!!!

This was such an interesting read! It’s the Van Dorens 10 years into the future. This was cool to see what everyone is up to in the future and possible kids that are around. It also teases some couples that we haven’t gotten books about yet.

In this installment, we see an adult Malin who is still trying to heal from the trauma he lived in when he was younger. Gracen was immediately drawn to Malin, but also knew he needed to tread carefully.

When Gracen finally makes his interest know, these two kind of fall into a semi relationship. Gracen knows he has to move slow, but Malin know he has to be by Gracen’s side. Little does anyone know, Malin is still fighting some pretty hard demons and it takes Gracen noticing, for Malin finally to be set free!

Such a good read, full of healing, and finding your other half to make your load a little less heavy.

****THIS BOOK IS 10 YEARS IN THE FUTURE SO WE SEE WHO DADDY JALON IS WITH****But if you have read the bonus scenes for For Your Love you know!
Also if you are uncomfortable with the 2/3 triplets relationship Malin is their “adopted child” and we see their relationship in this book. We also see the relationships of other couples who have not been released yet.

Yes both men have the same last name and are in the same family BUT ARE NOT BLOOD RELATED

This one was intense but so incredible. Malin is finally coming to terms with his life and trying to find his place within the Van Doren family, but is keeping a secret from them. Gracen is so intrigued by Malin and is willing to do anything he needs to help him.

The Van Dorens has become my favorite series and devour every book!!!

I love Malin’s story, his background is so heartbreaking. His past and his thoughts are dark and troubling. Even though Avory and Ellory try what they can for this broken soul. They never reach him like Gracen does. He was just there, sharing the quietness of the lake, sharing space without a word. Gracen listened to what Malin said between the words. He observed and analyzed the haunted boy, so he could make his world right again. He gave Malin a love that quieted the world when all it has ever done is scream at him.

It’s one of those books you read in one sitting, not realizing you hold your breath half the time. I love a story like this, the hurt/comfort so front and center. The physical touch bringing the true intimacy. It truly was breathtakingly beautiful.

Malin has grown up as the child of Avory and Ellory after being rescued from the island and the megacult, but his mind is not free from the past. The trauma he survived still haunts and plagues him, and he experiences it all in a VERY real way. Gracen has been observing Malin for years, and he’s caught what others haven’t. He’s determined to get Malin the help he needs so he can know peace finally. For Malin, Gracen provides peace, quieting the demons and ghosts that haunt him. The care and concern and protectiveness Gracen has for Malin, and the growth and strength Malin displays keep the reader watching both men and cheering them on as their connection solidifies into something romantic. I loved the glimpse into the future and can’t wait to read Voss.

So glad this Van Doren got his HEA!
Malin changed his name and became a Van Doren when he was rescued from a cult. Ten years later, the cult leader still haunts him. Gracen likes to watch Malin, but it’s not until Ellory mentions that Malin won’t notice him that Gracen starts to question whether he wants that. Once he realizes he does, he starts coming up with ways to make Malin notice him.

Soon Malin realizes Gracen quiets the ghost—though not before Gracen learns that Malin is actually being hunted. As they come up with a way to finally get rid of the cult leader’s ghost, Malin and Gracen start becoming more than just friends.

I loooooove this series so much! Malin is the story of, you guessed it, Malin and Gracen. While we haven't seen much of Gracen until now, we actually already know Malin. His real name is William and he was one of the victims of the mega church island in Imry/Avory and Ellory. He was adopted by the Van Dorens and changed his name. If you've read the other books in this series, you know what to expect in this one. One thing that is new and unique to this book is the presence of a ghost. There are some more difficult, possibly triggering elements linked to Malin's backstory you should be aware of going in. Amazing story!

Ooooh these two are hot contenders for my favourite book in the Crea-verse. There's just something about a broken character, and having someone who just sees them and loves them exactly how they are that scratches my brain just right

This one is definitely back into the darker themes. While there are no descriptions of actual actions in page, we can feel the pain and despair and guilt that Malin carries every day. And seeing him take back his independence and find himself wrapped this one up perfectly for me.

I think my heart broke with this story. I loved Malin and how he tried so hard to reinvent himself and his connection to the youngsters of the Van Doren’s. Those kids are sassy and know who they belong to! In a world of turmoil, it was nice to read a story where people look out for each other and take care of one another. Gracen brings peace and wraps Malin in a big, safe space. I loved it.

I read and reviewed a copy of this book.

We first met Malin, aka William, in Avory & Ellory’s book. He was rescued from an island 10 years prior. He broke my heart. He has been through things that no one should ever have to go through. And now even 10 years later he’s struggling with what he had gone through on that island.

Gracen has been infatuated with Malin for quite some time. He is exactly what Malin needs. He can see that Malin is going through something that no one else has picked up on. And with Gracen’s help, Malin finally gets the help that he needs.

Their connection was everything. Gracen brings Malin a quiet peace that he hasn’t had since he left the island. I loved how Gracen always talked things through with Malin and made sure consent was at the forefront with everything. I loved seeing how Malin was able to get his life back.

I received a copy from the author and am voluntarily sharing my honest opinion.

This book is part of the Van Doren world and it makes my heart clench at the trauma this poor man lived through. The story is dark and somewhat violent but it works. Malin was adopted into the family after he was rescued from a cult. That part of the story was in another book but you don’t need to read it to understand. Gracen was fascinated by Malin and was so sweet and understanding. Their story and love was so healing and joyful.

Malin is part of the Van Doren Series.

We met Malin before but under a different name. Now we see him ten years later after he escaped the events of the compound. However, he had been quietly suffering this whole time. But finally someone sees what he is going through and gets him the help he needs. Gracen was such a great support for Malik. He helped him work through his pain and suffering. He was patient and caring. I loved him for Malin. This was a great read.

Oh, Malin!!!! We all knew the trauma he experienced, but knowing what he’s been going through in the ten years since was so gut wrenching. Gracen has always seen Malin and finally has started to try to get closer to him. Malin is comforted by Gracen, and Gracen finally figures out why. This book has very little spice, but the growth of the relationship between Malin and Gracen is more than enough. Loved it!!!

This story warmed my heart. Malin trying to start over and the sweet bond he forms with the Van Doren kids was really lovely to read.

Those kids are full of personality and clearly know who they belong with. In the middle of all their ups and downs, it was nice to see everyone looking out for each other.

Gracen brings a gentle calm into Malin’s life, giving him a place to breathe. I just really enjoyed this one.
