What an amazing read! It had a little bit of everything. Friendship, romance, action and even a bit of comedy. Its biggest strength lies in its intrigue and mystery of the supernatural world the main character finds herself in. This is often built up and conveyed through dialogue, which I personally love. It makes it feel more personal, like you’re there experiencing it and learning with the characters. However it is not all dialogue of course, the description of some of these scenes is great, especially the action scenes. I can easily picture them.

As for the characters they are aplenty, with most fleshed out just enough to know what kind of person or “being” they are. Some characters feel like they could use a little bit more love, but this could also be part of the intrigue and mystery being built up around the entire story.

Which brings me to my last point. If you’re looking for a book with a definitive ending or answers to what was written in its pages, sorry that’s just not happening in this one. I can see this being a point of contention for some readers. This entire book is a mystery that seems to be poised to set up more things to come in later books. I ended up being ok with this as it kept me invested and wanting to read more. However, this can be a double-edged sword so to speak. With all this mystery the story can seem kind of aimless without the reader knowing what's going on, characters included. As a first book this is not a bad thing, but it does put pressure on later installments to resolve this in a satisfactory way. Also the first half of the book, admittedly, will probably be a slow read for some. However, if you can push past that first half, the second half you won’t be able to put down. Trust.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable read and I can’t wait for the next one. I highly recommend it, especially those who are into the supernatural like myself. However, even if you are not, give it a try. You won't regret it.

This book follows Amika as she gets closer to the mysterious Welkins family. Leading her into a new world of danger, darkness, and folklore.

For all the plot in this story, we have three main acts. The first two are quick run-through of the first Twilight book, beat-for-beat for the most part. Girl meets Boy, Boy is vampire, Girl calls him out and they are in love. Then evil creatures show up to ruin their love. The third act is where things really get fun.

For the majority of the book, I was sort of surprised by how much this story feels like a rough amalgamation of 2010s YA Paranormal Romance. Which is not bad but it is very familiar. It’s also tough when it’s so similar and yet lacks the same depth. I liked Amika, I liked her friends, but it was hard to perceive them as multi-dimensional.

I really appreciated the way this story finds itself toward the end. I liked the concept of the different species coming here from different worlds. I hope this gets more development as the series continues. I also thought Rhayne’s character development was interesting and somewhat tormenting. I am, however, interested in seeing where it goes.

I was most surprised by Rhayne’s family. I had mixed feelings about them liking some characters more than others, but I wasn’t expecting to like them at all so I’m glad. Quade was definitely the standout character.

TL;DR: There was a lot I liked about this book and while it felt cliche at times, it really finds its voice by the end. The secondary characters come out of their shells and I can honestly say I’m excited to see what comes next. 3.5 stars

Forgotten by the Sun is the debut of a series that will have you very impatiently waiting for the next book. We’ve got vampires, demons, werewolves, and potentially so much more! You will love this book if:

You are in the mood for a Twilight nostalgia with better supporting characters.
You like a story that unfolds piece by piece and keeps you desperate for answers
You want complicated, messy, imperfect relationships

Why it wasn’t a five start read for me, but could be for you:
I prefer faster paced plots. Forgotten by the Sun had a lot of world building it had to do before the plot really took off in the second half of the book.

WOWW!!!!!
From the moment I opened the book, down to the last page, I was completely invested. Never did I think I could feel all emotions after reading a book. The precision of words to accuratley describe every scene allowed me to trully visiualize the setting and personalities of each character. I'm absolutely looking forward to see what's in store for the second book. The author is captivating; you can see the love she's put into creating life into each page.

If they don't make this book into a movie, I will be upset!

This book had me at the start. I was definitely intrigued with all the character as the author brings them all to life. I could definitely feel a connection to the characters as I felt I could be a part of the story in some sort of way. As I got deeper into the chapters I couldn’t put it down. I was determined to finish because I was so vested in the novel. I felt so many emotions, laughs, sadness, anger, fear, all of it. I highly recommend this read . You won’t regret it!

It's such an amazing book. I'm in love with the story and characters. Hopefully, the author will soon come out with the second book. I love the characters' personalities so much I feel like they are super relatable, and I easily connect with a few. The adventure they go through is such great storytelling that I couldn't put the book down. I'm so excited for the second.

This definitely was an intriguing journey and I look forward to more. The relationship between two of the friends is funny, the detailed description you see as you read through their streams of thought is unique, and the whole plot is very optimistic. I'm a fan of big worlds and that's definitely something that I got to experience.

The beginning of the book I found to be fairly enjoyable and interesting, but it started getting a little to “Twilight-y” for me personally. I also thought the timeline was a bit confusing but if you enjoy fantasy/romance this could be a good choice!

This book opens as a classic teenage love story—an unexpected spark between a vampire and a human, two worlds colliding, and friends whose playful banter gradually becomes central to the plot. As the story progresses, it matures into something deeper and more layered. The writing is excellent and keeps you eager for more.
