Rose, an elderly resident at Sunshine Hills retirement home, is found dead in her bed under strange circumstances. From there, a complex mystery unfolds. Apparently, not all the residents are who they appear to be, and why are the management so adamant that Rose's friend, Clara, has dementia? Nurse Jenny and Sergeant Digby investigate and discover way more than they bargained for.
Novak gives the reader a likeable main character and a well thought out plot delivered in a skillful novel. Good atmosphere, a clean story as far as swears, sex and gore goes and a surprise ending reminiscent of The Bad Seed. Because of the amount of alcohol consumption and moral decisions, I prefer to recommend this story for younger adults and older. Maybe just preference on my part.
An excellent autumnal read which follows a mysterious (though at first seemingly normal) death in a care home. For those who have found themselves visiting care homes before, the descriptive language and story in this book will feel very familiar.
