Rate this book
As Mariota fights her birthright as queen of Sursha, she admits that her Druid blood has been calling to her. Her powers have advanced to the point of her aunt, Macha, Queen of the Druids, taking her personally under her wing in Ryarch.

Queen Elsie is suspicious after receiving a request from eight-months pregnant Laigen to retrieve her from France, claiming her husband, the Marqués de Velencia must remain due to business. Isabeau is dispatched in her capacity as an Elite Guard member to get her sister. She finds that, not all is what it seems.

Deciding to explore her Ankou roots – and growing feelings for Bo – Riley is plunged into a new world she could never have imagined, even as she painted what her heart already knew. When sent on a mission with Bo, she is attacked by a soldier who haled from a kingdom gone extinct thousands of years before through a rip in time and space.

Who has created this rip and why?

When Riley’s gifts to see through time shows her the horrific attack on Sursha and abduction of Queen Elise, she must make the ultimate choice – remain in her life in the twenty-first century or leave it all as the Dawning of her destiny calls her into action.

Ankou, Druid, Ohn and the reluctant Baheoch must work together as the drumbeat of war looms in book 3 of the Bowhar series!

Have you ever been hooked on a series? I'm definitely hooked on this one! I think of it as fantasy/mystical fiction with a flair of historical fiction mixed in. And, I think of it as fun!

Dawning is the third book in the Bowhar tetralogy which is the last part of this thirteen book series. Oh my! Only one book left and it's coming out in October!

Dawning sets us up for that final book. In fact the ending here leaves more than a few threads of the story hanging! I'm glad it's nearly time for the final book to be out … I need the story to resolve!

I see two main plot lines (both left hanging 🤯).

First we see Isabeau and Fallon setting off on a mission to escort Fallon and Cateline's eldest daughter, Laigen, home to Sursha. This plot line revisits the meeting of Fallon and Cateline and their journey to Sursha in the first book of the series.

The second plot line involves Riley and Bo in investigating a rip in time and space that only the Bahoech can have created. A rip that heralds war. A rip that allows marauding soldiers from a long dead kingdom access to the earth plane.

But this book is more than just adventure! We learn more about Riley as she learns about herself. We learn why she was drawn to present day Sursha and why she is so invested in history. We watch Bo and Riley try to figure out where they want to go. Is a love story in the making? Or will all the complexity of what Riley is learning be too much for her? And then there's the mystery of what is going on with Laigen and Reinaldo.

After reading this far, I fear the author is setting us up for an explosive ending. I can't wait!

If you haven't started the journey yet, what are you waiting for? Get "She Who Would Be King" and begin! If you're on the journey with me, I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am! I'm sure you'll enjoy this book!

Here's an idea of what's in the first eleven books in the series. She Who Would Be King (Book 1) introduces a small set of characters and sets up a small part of the world for this series. There are bad guys, action, surprises and a love story. I was completely captivated! Daughter of Ankou (Book 2) adds new elements to the world. New characters were introduced. And the arc of the series begins to appear (but lots of surprises to come!) In some ways this book was a classic tale of good versus evil. Doors (Book 3) continues to build the world and shifts focus to Roishin, daughter of Cateline and Fallon, while keeping you in touch with other characters you've come to love. It's is a story of figuring out who you are and determining how your life will proceed. And it is a story of accepting your gifts. There is beauty and sadness and joy as life continues to move the characters along. She Who Dreams (Book 4) is a book of growth and becoming. Roishin's family is growing and she and others around her are discovering new depths of power. But sometimes kin can disappoint and relationships can fracture. Evil exists in the world! Shadows (Book 5) introduces both new characters and new planes of existence. It shows us the past and how hard it is to fight evil when it comes calling. But by showing the past, it sets us up to long for the hinted at possible journey from devastation to unity. She Who Would Be Queen (Book 6) tells a story of betrayal and war and incredible depth of connection. It continues the mission to free the populace of Bowhar. And it brings us new characters. The Lost (Book 7 and the first book in the Ancients trilogy), introduces us to the Ancients and tells the story of one who was taken from the homelands and who became lost to her people. There's much to her story but you will see the effort it takes to attempt to rescue her when she catches the eye of forces for evil. Which side will she choose? Will she even have a choice? The Found (Book 8 and the second book in the Ancients trilogy), reveals new aspects of this incredible world that coexists with our own physical world. There's a romance and there's a search for a lost mother's soul and there is Enori as a child. The Broken (Book 9 and the last book in the Ancients trilogy), adds so much background and depth to the story. We begin to understand Enori's life in a new way. This book had me in tears. That is how clearly the emotions come through. Transcendence (Book 10 and the first book in the Bowhar tetralogy), extends the world yet again. It is a book of beginnings as Roishin and Enori grow their family and begin their work to restore Bowhar and it is a book of endings as one of our dear friends dies. Awakening (Book 11 and the second book in the Bowhar tetralogy), is a thrilling adventure into a whole new plane of existence. It is a beautiful love story and a story of finding who you were always meant to be (a theme that I see recurring in this series).

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.
