Thorns that pierce. Magic that binds. Love that claims.
Lady Rosalind Whitmore has always been different. While other women disappear into Fae courts with stars in their eyes, she knows better. She's too smart, too strong, too independent to fall for ancient magic and older seductions. When she volunteers for a diplomatic mission to the mysterious Thorn Court, it's to prove she can succeed where others have failed.
She has no idea that wanting it was never part of the equation.
Prince Kaelen has orchestrated everything. The border crisis, the diplomatic summons, even the perfect storm that delivers his prophesied omega directly into his thorned embrace. His court is dying, his magic fading, and only the right omega bond can save his people from extinction. He's prepared to use every weapon in his arsenal—devastating charm, addictive pheromones, and thorns that deliver pleasure so intense it destroys her will to resist.
What he didn't expect was to fall just as hard.
Rosalind came to negotiate. Instead, she discovers that some missions end in complete surrender. As her heat awakens under Kaelen's thorned touch and his rut-driven obsession burns through every defense, she realizes the abandoned daughter who feared being forgotten has found an alpha who will worship her body and claim her soul—even if it costs her everything she thought she was.
But when the brutal truth about her capture shatters their perfect bond, Rosalind must choose between the woman she used to be and the omega she's becoming. Because love built on lies might be a beautiful trap...but sometimes the most dangerous cages are the ones we beg to stay in.
A dark fae omegaverse romance featuring alpha rut, omega heat, thorned anatomy, fated mates, and a heroine who discovers that being completely claimed might be worth any price.
Perfect for fans Sarah J. Maas • Jennifer L. Armentrout • C.M. Nascosta • Addison Cain
Fated Mates • Alpha/Omega Dynamics • Morally Gray MMC • Captivity Romance • Heat/Rut Cycles • Knotting • Claiming/Bonding • "I can fix him" (but worse) • Touch her and die
Sweet and steamy is my thing! I just love when a hero is gentle, passionate, and protective with his heroine. It makes me melt inside. As a reader, I’ve especially come to love monster romance novels, but I couldn’t find enough that scratched that itch. So I decided to start writing!

In theory this should have been a solid three or four star read for me. The premise sounded intriguing and I know this author can write well, plus I love MF omegaverse so much.
Alas, I was bored. 🤷🏻♀️ I tried, I can't rule out that it wasn't partially a *me* issue as I've been feeling burnt out and in a bit of a book slump lately.
I liked the MMC, and that's about it. I liked the world building and the urgency of the MMC needing to find a way to save his power for his court and his people. Otherwise the rest fell short for me.
I didn't like the FMC. Even for a potential omega, and even framed in the way omegas tend to be submissive and living to please their alpha mates. I just could not like her. She came across as childish in her thoughts, especially regarding her mother's abandonment. She made it deeply personal and all about her from the letter her mother left for her father. Which was again, childish and rather ridiculous considering her mother abandoned her sister AND their father as well and not just her. So she built her entire life as some sort of independent (although it seemed like a false front tbh) woman who was intelligent and accomplished, all important boxes that needed to be ticked in her opinion as she carried on in her determination to earn her fathers approval and love. On top of that, it was also to somehow prove she was "special" and "unlike other women" who succumbed to alphas as she was absolutely sure she was different, in her eyes she *had* to be different otherwise she was somehow the reason for her mother abandoning them because she wasn't special enough?
Honestly girly just needed some therapy imho.
Anyway, once she begins her "omega awakening" I became exhausted by not only how easily she accepted her new role in life and disregards all she worked for and even returning to her sister (though I'm sure that eventually comes up later in the book) but how susceptible she was to the MMCs manipulation as he guided her through her transition. Because that girl was absolutely positively crawling on her knees desperate to be wanted, loved, chosen, and to be someones first choice, to have someone's undivided attention and their approval... like it was disturbing for me and not sweet or as if this girl found her "home" or her people.
Also the endless repetition of the FMC going "I know I shouldn't but.." or "I know I should resist but.." like girl we knew you weren't gonna put up a fight but there she went repeating this over and over and over. It was a bunch of filler really.
So, this was a miss for me. I may finish it one night when I'm bored, but otherwise I'm tapping out for now.
I will admit it's the covers to these books by this author that grab me, then I get lost in her tale and the characters. in this book we have Rosalind, a smart lady of the Fae court, who volunteers to gather information on the Thorn court. Kaelen is the Prince of that court and all is not what it seems for Rosalind. This was a great read and thoroughly enjoyed. Always happy seeing more from this author. She came for peace. He gave her war, a crown, and a bond.
When diplomat Rosalind enters the Fae realm, she's focused on one thing: securing a treaty between worlds. But an ambush upends everything, leaving her stranded in the Thorn Court and face to face with Kaelen, a prince as calculating as he is powerful. He claims they're fated. She calls it madness. What she doesn’t know is just how far he’s already gone to bring her here.
Kaelen believes Rosalind is the key to saving his kingdom and his future. As her body changes and the bond between them intensifies, so does the magic they begin to unlock. He’s dominant and dangerous, but something in her rises to meet him. What starts as survival begins to feel like something deeper, something she’s scared to name.
As the court begins to thrive and secrets surface, Rosalind is forced to choose between the safety of the world she left and the bond she never expected to want. Walking away costs her more than she’s ready for. Coming back means claiming everything on her own terms. What they rebuild isn't perfect, but it's real.
Rosalind grows from a guarded, duty-bound diplomat into a queen who owns her power and voice. Kaelen shifts from prophecy-obsessed ruler to a partner who learns to trust choice over fate. They create something rare: a bond built not through control, but through fire, trust, and love.
A dark, steamy, fae, omegaverse romantasy featuring fated mates, forced proximity, alpha-omega dynamics, political intrigue, and a bond forged through captivity, fire, and choice. It explores power dynamics, consent and control, identity transformation, betrayal, survival, autonomy, intimacy, and redemption. It's about the cost of power, the struggle between control and consent, and reclaiming agency after manipulation. It's about a transformative love, choosing destiny over fear, and a bond that's not taken but earned, tested, and true.
I will admit, the cover and description were what grabbed my attention first. But this story turned out not to be as great as I'd hoped.
The story begins with a woman named Rosalind, who is set to go into the Throned Court to gather Intel. A woman who battles with feeling like she isn't good enough, yet believes she is diiferent to all those other women who have fallen under the spell of their alphas. But once she arrives into the Thorned Court territory, she quickly realises she is in a much more complicated situation once she meets the Prince Kaelen.
Prince Kaelen is a man trying desperately to save his people and realm from dying. Under pressure and desperation, he finds a prophecy that involves and omega and falling in love in order to save his people. After an orchestrated attack, everything Roslind thought she knew and believed will be put to the test.
At first this book had my attention, but the more I read the more I began to loose interest. The plot felt a bit rushed and even a bit stagnant. Yes, those private lessons between Kaelen and Roslind. about her Omega nature were steamy, but they felt somewhat rushed and out of place. And Rosalind's mindset of thinking she was special seemed a bit childish considering her job and background. What bothered me the most is that Rosalind claimed to be a strong independent woman but never really showed it. I will say, the rest of the plot was enjoyable, the lies and manipulation were what kept me from dnfing this book. Sadly it seems this book wasn't for me.
THORNED is the first book in the Dark Faeverse series, and introduces a world where Fae and Human courts intermingle, albeit very very carefully!
Rosalind is nobility, and the daughter of a General. She has been trained as a diplomat and is chosen to go to the Thorned Court for negotiations. Once there, she realises that things have changed, she has changed, and nothing will be the same again. As for Kaelen, well, he was plotted and planned for centuries to get Rosalind to his court. Which means he won't allow anything - or anyone - to interfere with his plans.
I did enjoy this story, even with all the lies and machinations, but I did find a few parts either confusing or not needed. Either way, it was a great read and a wonderful introduction to the world of the Fae Courts. Definitely recommended by me, and I look forward to returning for the next in the series.

Thorned is the first book in the author’s Dark Faeverse series and a romantasy with a steamy infusion of omegaverse baked in. MFC Lady Rosalind has never become enamored of the fae who invaded her world many years prior, she sees who and what they truly are. When MMC fae Prince Kaelen of the Thorn court initiates a crisis that requires diplomatic intervention, omega Rosalind becomes a cultural liaison to his court that will soon seal her fate. An enjoyable adventure with great world building, dark passion, drama, revelations, magic, Intrigue, emotion, and personal vulnerabilities will power an energetically written story soon to immerse the reader in a captive and spine tingling read.

2.5 stars from me. Rosalind, a woman struggling with self-doubt, enters the Thorned Court to gather intel, believing she’s immune to the allure of alphas. But meeting Prince Kaelen, who’s desperate to save his dying realm through a prophecy involving an omega and love, complicates her mission. An attack challenges her beliefs. The book started strong but lost me with a rushed, stagnant plot. Steamy scenes between Kaelen and Rosalind felt forced, and her “special” mindset seemed immature for her role. Despite claiming strength, she didn’t show it. The lies and manipulation were engaging enough to keep me reading, but overall, the book was a disappointment.

If you want a story with a lot of spice, this one is for you. There were a lot of intense spicy moments between these two that will not disappoint you.
Kaelen is very manipulative in his actions and seems to have no remorse for the things he does. I get he is trying to protect his people, but some of the things he does was unnecessary, imo. Rosalind is a very strong willed character and I enjoyed how hard she fought for ability to make her own decisions. She wasn't going to be anyone's pawn and she stood up for herself when the need arose.
It was an interesting read and I am invested in seeing how the rest of the series goes.
This is a good story that is a bit dark. It is the first in the new "Dark Faeverse" series but can be enjoyed as a stand alone. The world, characters and plot are creative. The story is set in the omega world where the alpha takes what he wants, the omega, no matter what. With that said the reader should know what kind of world this is. It is a steamy read where the alpha claims and ruts his mate. I eventually like the characters but it took some time before that happened. The story could have been better developed but over all the plot was intriguing. I look forward to reading Frozen.
-A lush and dark Omegaverse fantasy filled with fae politics, secrets, and temptation. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Lady Rosalind’s fiery strength meets Prince Kaelen’s manipulative power in a battle of wills and desire. The world-building is rich and immersive, laced with drama, emotion, and steamy tension.
A captivating, spine-tingling tale of control, courage, and forbidden passion.
The only reason why I'm giving this book three stars is because it had some really good steamy parts. The beginning of the book really pulled me in and peeked my interest. But it was unable to hold it. The more I read of Rosalind the more childish she seemed. Thinking she was immune to the effects of the Fae. Plus the rain just seemed a little off.

The concept was interesting but it ultimately fell flat for me. We’re introduced to the FMC as this strong willed super smart woman who doesn’t want to just succumb to a man… guess what she immediately does. Also the MMC was unlikable. He talks about plotting and manipulating and she’s totally fine with it. He also refers to her as his property the entire time.
Love this fairy tale retelling. it takes what we know and adds a twist. It makes you wonder how the main characters are going to get out of the situation.
