False Start is the third book in the Brooklyn Kings series by Felice Stevens. I have loved this series from the start and have been so excited for this final book, Patrick and Fallon’s book. Wow, it was everything I hoped it would be and more!

Patrick “Trick” Sloane is thirty one years old and is the new starting quarterback for the Kings. Being traded is never easy but he wasn’t happy with his previous team and is determined that he will do everything possible to take the Kings all the way to the Super Bowl.

Ten years previously, when Patrick was the star quarterback in college, he tried to be everything everyone expected him to be, including a ladies man. But Patrick had a secret. He’s known since he was a teenager that he is bi-sexual. But he has never been able to explore that part of him, so he joined an exclusive club where all members wore masks, where everything was anonymous. And on his first night there, he met...him!!

Fallon McKenzie had been gifted a membership to that same club. It was also his first night there. He had no idea who his mystery man was at first. They met for months and Fallon was falling in love. Until by accident, he discovered Patrick’s identity. He was destined for NFL greatness. He would never be accepted as anything but straight. So Fallon ran.

Ten years later, when Patrick moves to New York to play for the Kings, he hires Fallon to be his PA. He has no idea that Fallon was his “one” that he has never forgotten. Except that he feels drawn to him from the start. Once the truth comes out, Patrick knows that this is their second chance. He’s not letting Fallon go again, no matter what.

I adored these two together. Patrick seemed so lost at first. So was Fallon, really, but in a different way. Patrick seemed to have floundered around for the previous ten years. But once Fallon was back in his life, everything seemed to settle. These two were meant to be together. Were things going to be easy for them? No, definitely not. Can Patrick have it all, a football career and the man of his dreams? Or will he have to choose? This is the end of this series but Felice promises she has future works in progress that we are going to love. I don’t doubt that for a minute.

How was I supposed to work with the man who’d taken my virginity but didn’t know it?

Patrick and Fallon meet at an exclusive sex club and spend 6 incredible months exploring their explosive chemistry. But when Fallon realizes Patrick is a soon-to-be famous football player, he knows they can never openly be together and he runs. Years later they are reunited, but Patrick doesn't recognize who Fallon is. And he's still in the closet, with 2 ex-wives and a string of failed romances. The attraction is still there, but so are the barriers to being together.

I enjoy reading Felice Stevens's books usually but False Start was a bit of a miss for me. There were a ton of plot holes and insane coincidences, and Patrick's character came across as sleazy. I liked Fallon initially, but over time the plot holes and inconsistencies grew to be too much. It's like Fallon was in complete stasis in the decade that he and Patrick spent apart: for example, his grief over his brother's death was insanely fresh and raw to the point that it seemed unrealistic. The plot was quite minimal and was centred around Fallon and Patrick rekindling their relationship. Both MCs seemed underdeveloped as characters in my opinion.

Oh I liked this book a lot!

I loved the unique meet/cute/first time that tied Fallon and Patrick together, it's a genius way of giving both men a first love they couldn't forget, without any kind of baggage from something failing.

When their paths cross again 10 years later, only Fallon knows they've got history, Trick never found out what happened to the young man he fell for during their anonymous club encounters so there's a fair bit of reader tension waiting for the hammer to fall.

Of course, the UST between them and the emotive connection is still as strong 10 years later, and it's only a matter of time before the secret's out.

I loved seeing Dev and Brody in this one, out there supporting Fallon no matter what and Patrick's mum and dad are truly wonderful, it was so lovely to see how quickly they welcomed Fallon when they thought he was only their son's PA, never mind the love of his life.

The sex is off the charts hot, Fallon has a surprisingly dirty mouth when he gets going, but it's also filled with emotion and love too, Patrick just wants to make the most of the chance he's been given with the only person he's ever had real feelings for.

I've only knocked half a star off because of Fallon's martyrdom syndrome going on a bit too long for my liking even though I totally understood why he was the way he was, he'd also spent enough time with Patrick to know what he was saying was the truth.

Fallon's habit of making decisions for others because of his own fears was an understandable flaw and I felt for him greatly, I would have just liked him to have taken a more proactive approach once he became aware that's what he was doing.

That is my only single teeny niggle in what was otherwise an absolutely outstanding final Brooklyn Kings romance although I note Felice says she's not quite finished with some of the people in this series, which I'm hoping means there may be a story on the way for backup quarterback Harte.

Patrick and Fallon meet at an exclusive club for men not wanting to share their personal preferences with the world, in their early twenties. The club has members wear make to keep identities safe but one night, Fallon sees who is under Patrick's. Patrick being a famous college quarterback, Fallon knows they could never go public with their relationship and leaves.
After 10 years, both have never forgotten the other and Patrick wishes he just knew who his first love was.
To Fallon's surprise, mutual friends set Patrick up to meet Fallon, so Fallon could be his new PA. Fallon of course knows who he is but Patrick has no clues. Patrick feels a draw to Fallon but doesn't know why.
They get closer and secrets are revealed. How will their personal and working relationships continue?

Patrick and Fallon are swoon-worthy! I loved their interactions as college-aged kids and as adults, trying to figure out life.
I'm not usually a second-chance romance person, but I really enjoyed this one. I think it was made more enjoyable because of the anonymity of the first time Patrick and Fallon began their relationship. Patrick's impulsivity is perfectly matched by Fallon's organized personality. It also ended up working out in their favor, making their HEA happen quickly, but no less special. I also loved seeing Dev and Brody get to play "big brother" to Fallon and the glimpse at their life after retirement.
I'm excited to read more from this author in the future!
Thank you, Happily Booked PR, for the ARC!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book I read in this series by Felice Stevens because I'm a sucker for a second chance romance and this was H I T T I N G. I was hooked from the very beginning, and I finished it pretty much within a day. Fallon and Patrick were so cute together. Fallon has the worst family ever, tbh, but he's found a family that is much better. That includes Dev and Brody and Patrick's parents!! I didn't feel lost - just straight jumping into book three in this series - so these could definitely be read in any order.

If you like second chance, no third act break-up, and hot steamy steam, definitely think about picking this one up! It's relatively short and you could read it in one afternoon while at the beach!

Fallon!! I was obsessed with him during the last book. He was smart and sassy and fierce and suuuuch a great friend. I'm glas he's finally getting this HEA. Even if it took years and years...and some heart break and mistaken identity and secrets and desires and wow, then I'm crying.

And even though I cried (a few times) this story was about acceptance and being happy and found family and taking chances and saying those three words that change everything.

It was adorable and perfect.

Trigger Warnings: sports based homophobia and more.

ARC REVIEW

Oh my god, this was so sweet and fluffy! It felt like a warm hug. Total comfort read.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but I ended up loving it. The story really captures the quiet ache of unspoken feelings and the emotional weight that can come with coming out, especially under the spotlight. It handles those themes with care while still keeping things light, romantic, and hopeful.

Patrick is a star quarterback on the cusp of a Super Bowl run with a new team, and Fallon is his newly hired personal assistant. But here’s the twist Fallon isn’t just some stranger from HR. They have a shared past, even if Patrick doesn’t seem to remember it quite the same way Fallon does. Fallon was his first lover, and while Patrick may not have understood what they had at the time, Fallon never forgot.

Watching Patrick slowly fall for Fallon all over again without even realizing he was retracing old steps was incredibly tender. There’s something special about second chance romances, especially when they unfold in such an intimate, low-angst way. Their dynamic is soft, patient, and full of quiet moments that really tug at your heart.

The book doesn’t just lean on sweetness, though. It thoughtfully explores what it means to live authentically, the fear of being outed, and how love can sometimes be both terrifying and freeing. And yet it never loses its warmth. That balance is what made it such a satisfying read.

Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for something heartfelt, romantic, and affirming.

I liked this book. It's nothing new as a trope (closeted football star falls in love and contemplates coming out and all that would entail) But here, we have his first mystery love coming back into his life and the beauty of the revelations making this story more passionate and immersive. The anonymity and the reveal are perfect. And the love story a strong one. A great ending to this three book series. I'm glad that we are promised more in the future with the characters introduced in these books

I've enjoyed this author's work, and was excited to read this book. I enjoyed it! It's a relatively low angst, sweet, second chance romance. There is still some uncertainty, it's not a totally smooth ride for the guys. But things work out in the end, of course! I enjoyed this series, and was sad this is the last book. It was nice to get to see past characters though!

A new and interesting way for the two MMC’s to meet! I loved that! How they formed that bond without knowing who they were 🥰 Fallon and Patrick have a special chemistry!

For me this was a very sweet and low angst story. It’s full of tension, spice and emotions. I love that we get to see Brody and Dev! And I loved the way Patrick’s parents included Fallon even though he was just a PA.

Oh my gosh, could I feel the yearning in this book! I loved the concept of how these two 'met' and their feelings grew, despite not knowing who the other person was or what they looked like. At the end of the opening chapter I was devastated right alongside Patrick when he found someone whom he truly had a connection with and then the mystery man disappeared.

The story then jumps ten years, and we meet Fallon officially, who is a highly capable and organised PA to his friend, and as it turns out, pretty darn lovable too. I couldn’t help but feel empathetic for him as well as he’s had such a tough time of it since his childhood. He’s also missing his best friend, so it's great that he's got Dev and Brody, who are his loyal supporters. I was glad that he’s still got a bit of sass and will stand up for himself, even though he’s constantly been let down by his parents.

While Fallon’s been trying to keep himself busy, Patrick’s personal life has been limited by his fear that the truth will affect his career playing (American) football. His struggle and desire to find the one tugged at my heartstrings, but I loved that his parents were so supportive of him and so immediately accepting of Fallon too.

Patrick being so drawn to Fallon as a person, no matter what he looked like or who he was, shows how strong their connection was, and I absolutely loved that. I could almost feel that sexual tension between them when they were ‘just colleagues’.

I will admit I was expecting some kind of dramatic reveal and maybe a bit of fallout when Patrick found out the truth about Fallon, and I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't, but in hindsight, they deserved an easier ride after waiting ten years for each other. Patrick's reaction was actually really uplifting because it showed how strong his love was rather than him focusing on any hurt and anger he may have felt that Fallon didn't tell him before.

I did get a little frustrated with Fallon when his automatic reaction was to run when it looked like their secret may come out. Patrick comes through with flying colours though by fighting for him, determined to tell the world the truth despite the consequences, and this reinforced my positive opinion of him.

This is the first one of the Brooklyn Kings series that I’ve read, but I’ll definitely be adding the others to my tbr list. Dev/Brody and Armi/Hayden were such positive characters that I was immediately curious about their stories too - and I do love a forbidden romance as well!

I’ve really enjoyed this series and this is a great addition - I loved Patrick and Fallon and their love!

Patrick and Fallon meet in college, have an intense and passionate connection but they are wearing masks and are not supposed to know each other’s identities. It’s special but it’s not meant to be permanent.

10 years later they meet again, now Patrick is a star quarterback for the Kings and Fallon is a superstar PA, and guess what Patrick needs? The catch - Fallon does know who Patrick is and their history and those feelings that weren’t supposed to be there 10 years ago still are and now they are supposed to work together.

The connection between these two is undeniable and I really loved that it was there for both of them. Patrick had always been bisexual but has hid that from everyone. But with Fallon (back) in his life he doesn’t want to hide it anymore, and when he discovers the truth about who Fallon really is he realizes it’s everything he’s always wanted.

Again, I loved these two together, they just have that meant to be feeling. These two have loved each other for a long time without even realizing it and now they have the opportunity truly be together and have the love they have always wanted. While Fallon is cautious and always trying to plan ahead, Patrick is much more impulsive and action centered. They really are a great pair and I loved watching them figure it out together. It’s not an overly angst, dramatic story, but they do have challenges. Patrick isn’t out and as a top athlete it’s a scary thing to think about. These two support and love each other though and that’s what it’s really about - them finding and making the life they want together.

This is a really fantastic love story and it made my heart happy! I adored both Patrick and Fallon and loved getting to see characters from the rest of the series! I also have to give a shoutout to Patrick’s parents for being wonderful to him and Fallon as well - that’s what a family should be! A really great series that I’ve loved and I’m really happy to see that we’ll still get some more in this world!

MY OPINION: This was my favorite of the three, and I am a little sad about this series coming to an end. This is a slow-burn, second-chance, coming-out romance, and I liked it.

The way these two first met was a great twist on a story, and the long gap between their first contact and their second chance made for an amazing story. Generally, all of this fell together in a wonderful way and genuinely felt like a slice-of-life story.

I liked this couple so much. Fallon was the PA for Devlin Summers (previous book) and needed a new job. The new quarterback for the Kings is Patrick “Trick” Sloan. The only problem was they had a history, and Fallon's heart was still attached, even though Patrick didn’t know who he was; the feelings were there. The way Fallon felt about himself and the situation was heartbreaking. He didn’t have family, only Devlin, who was more family than employer. I loved how this story was played out. I felt for him.

Patrick wasn’t a stereotypical NFL player. He had a lot of history, and I have to admit Fallon handled his past well, which included two marriages and lots and lots of hookups. There was some softness and a desire to be loved by someone. When he realized that Fallon was the first man he had been with ten years earlier, he wasn’t going to give up on this second chance. He was all in; his big NFL career was secondary to loving Fallon. It was sweet.

There is a lot to the story. You get to see more from Devlin and Brody since they are close to Fallon, and you get to meet Patrick's parents, who are amazing, sweet, and supportive. All the little things that Fallon does as his assistant are a great part of the overall story. It’s good and I recommend picking it up. As I said, this is my favorite of the three, but the first two are certainly worth reading.

I’m reading more and more of Felice Stevens’ books and haven’t been disappointed yet. If you want a great story with solid characters, you won’t be disappointed with her writing.

I am sad that this series is ending, but this is honestly the best story of the bunch. I am not a big second-chance lovers cheerleader, but I was chomping at the bit for the reveal of Fallon and Patrick.

Fallon, we met as the PA for Devin. They are best friends and have been there for each other's highs and lows. Patrick or Trick is a superstar who knows he is bisexual, but knows that to get to the next level, that aspect of his life should stay on the DL. Both men gained access to a private club known for its discretion, but little did they know that a spark of chemistry would turn into an unforgettable experience for both and a bond that would span a decade. A literal slip of the mask sets the men on a journey of separation and coming into their own, but neither could forget their greatest love match, even if they don't realize that is what has happened.

Dev sets the guys up in a professional way, and while Fallon is aware of their connection, Patrick is not. However, Patrick cannot deny that he feels a strong pull to his PA. Knowing that he should not cross that line, he decides to venture to the NY version of the club he had joined back in California. Once again, he meets a man who checks all his boxes, even if he is not his blond-haired, blue-eyed mystery man. But one conversation shatters the mask and gives Patrick everything he has ever wanted, but he still has his career to consider. But love for him trumps all. Love for him transcends the BS that is sure to follow. Fallon is the man he has been waiting for, the missing key to his heart, the one he was always meant to love.

You will be rooting for these two from their first encounter to their greatest triumph to the sweetest update in their life. I do hope we get to meet some of the other men we've encountered throughout these stories and get to learn more about their heartache and eventual HEAs.

I devoured this book in one sitting. From the very first page, I was completely hooked by the emotional pull of Fallon and Patrick’s story. It’s tender, romantic, a little heartbreaking, but so full of warmth and healing that it left my heart so full.
Fallon and Patrick first meet in their early twenties at a private, anonymous club where names and identities are kept hidden. Each week, behind their masks, they fall deeper into something real—until one night, Fallon sees who Patrick really is. A rising football star with the world ahead of him. Knowing a public relationship would ruin his career, Fallon walks away without a word.
Fast forward ten years, and Patrick is now a star quarterback for the Brooklyn Kings. He’s confident, successful, and still haunted by the memory of the man he once loved but never truly knew. Fallon, now working as a PA, ends up being hired as Patrick’s assistant through mutual friends—who have no idea they share a past.
What unfolds is a beautiful, slow-burning second-chance romance. Fallon remembers everything. Patrick remembers the feeling, the connection, but doesn’t realize who Fallon is. And honestly? Watching him slowly fall for Fallon all over again, without even realizing it, was so freaking satisfying. The chemistry is amazing. The emotional buildup is perfect.
Fallon’s inner journey—dealing with years of hurt, abandonment, and always putting others first—was written with so much empathy. Patrick’s own struggle with identity, the pressure of being in the spotlight, and the fear of losing everything by being himself? So raw and real.
And when Patrick finally decides to stop hiding and live his truth… God. My heart just burst.
This isn’t just a romance. It’s about finding home in someone, about not running from love, and about finally choosing yourself—and each other.

4.4/5 - I’ve enjoyed this series and this book was no exception. I know nothing about the technical aspects of American football but that didn’t stop my enjoyment as I love a sports based romance.
I liked the premise of their first anonymous meetings 10 years earlier and then meeting up again when Fallon is set up with the opportunity of becoming the PA for Patrick (the new quarterback in town). The fact that Fallon is the only one that knows about their previous connection adds to the tension and build up to the big reveal. I have to admit I’m not overly convinced that you can spend that long with someone and feel such a connection and then not get an inkling upon meeting them again years later, but I’m suspending reality because of my enjoyment of all other parts of the book.
As with any Felice Stevens book there is supportive family and friends and I loved Patrick’s parents and their easy acceptance of Fallon. It made up for how awful Fallon’s parents were to him, although the story doesn’t linger on them too much as their rejection mostly has already happened in the past. Dev & Brody also proved themselves to be good friends to both men and I loved Dev’s protective big brother routine.
The thing I like about reading a series is the ability to see more of the earlier couples and we get quite a bit of that here. We see a lot of Dev & Brody and what they are up to after the end of their playing career and are also rewarded with a little bit of Armi & Hayden too.
I thought this was going to be the final book in the series, but I was pleased to see from the author’s newsletter that we might be getting a 4th book/spin off for aging back up quarterback Harte, I’m sure he has an interesting story in his future.

“I want you. All of you. Your heart as well as your body. Say it. Say you love me.”

Felice Stevens has done it once again. She’s written a story full of longing, heart, understanding, heat, and love. It had me fully invested from the first page and I’ll think about these characters for days to come.

“There is no choice. No matter what, no matter when, I choose you. First, last, and always.”

Patrick is probably my favorite MMC from this series, even if he was a bit a prick when we first meet him in End Game. He’s a pro football player who hides part of himself from the world because he’s not ready to face the stigma around queer people in sports. But when he finds the man that he wants to love openly, he’s ready to live his truth.

Fallon has a lot self doubt and emotional trauma from his family. He frequently plays the martyr because he doesn’t feel like he’s enough, like he’s worthy of someone making a sacrifice for. That is until Trick shows him what it truly means to love: to accept each other wholeheartedly, to put each other above all else, & to fight for each other forever.

The chemistry between these two was magnetic. I loved that it was dual POV so we could see just how strong their attraction was. Don’t even get me started on their intimate moments. The spice wasn’t just thrown in gratuitously, the scenes were thought out and beautifully depicted. I was melting for them.

“It’s just the beginning. We may have begun with a false start, but from now on, it’s first and forever.”

While I’m sad that it’s over, this is the perfect conclusion to the Brooklyn Kings series. It was a heartwarming story of second chances, fighting for the one you love, and showing your true self to the world.

No one does MM like Felice and I swear this series keeps getting better and better.

We met Fallon, Devlin’s PA, in End Game. And now we get his entire story!! Starting 10 years prior, a young Fallon is gifted a membership to an exclusive $ex club, founded on safety and anonymity. His first night there he falls into bed with a masked man who makes his heart skips a beat from the start. 6 months of hook ups, of nights spent hidden behind masks, and his mystery man wants more. That’s something Fallon isn’t willing to risk, though.

Star quarterback Patrick “Trick” Sloane has everything he wants in his sights. Win the Rose Bowl, get drafted, be a franchise quarterback in the NFL. A life of fame and fortune comes with a price: hiding his sexuality. Patrick knows being active player and coming out as bisexual could be detrimental for him.

Flash toward 10 years: Patrick moves to New York to play for the Kings and needs a PA to keep his life straight. Seemingly left with little to do after Devlin’s retirement, Dev sets up a meeting between Fallon and Patrick. Patrick has no idea the man who walked up to his table is also his mystery lover from 10 years ago. The man who set his soul on fire.

Was their first encounter something that can become more? Will Patrick and Fallon make their next play? Find out more about the life of the closeted (for now…?) NFL superstar quarterback and his reserved PA in False Start!

Patrick ‘Trick’ Sloane has a secret. He is bisexual and has never been with a man. Fallon McKenzie is a virgin and is looking to change his status. Both meet at Intensity, a sex club that requires all participants to be anonymous. No names, no personal information, and no removing the masks that everyone is required to wear.

Patrick is on the verge of starting a career with the NFL and Fallon has graduated from college and is just starting his own career. His employer and friend gifts him with a membership to Intensity which he thinks is perfect to help him lose is V-card.

Patrick and Fallon have an instant attraction and it starts out as lust at first sight. But something happens when they continue to meet. They can’t get enough of each other and lust over a six month period becomes love. But after a night of passion, Fallon awakens before Patrick and discovers that his mask has slipped off. Fallen recognizes Patrick and panics. He flees because he feels he would hurt Patricks career and start with the NFL if anyone ever found out about them.

Ten years later, that past catches up with Fallon and he ends up working as Patrick’s personal assistant. Patrick doesn’t recognize Fallon and that fact creates a tension that is difficult for Fallon to overcome.

False Start was excellent and a great addition to the Kings series. I loved this book so much that I read it twice. It was a triple delight; a forever home, a forever family, and best of all, a forever love. False Start can be read as a stand alone but I know that once you read it, you’ll snap up the previous books in this series if you haven’t read them already.

4.5 stars!

This is book three in the author’s Brooklyn Kings series and features a second chance romance ten years after Patrick and Fallon met in a private, discreet (to the point that names weren’t allowed and everyone was forced to wear a mask), club. Ten years after they fell in love without even knowing who the other was…except Fallon had accidentally recognized Patrick as a college football player on his way to the pros. Ten years after he refused to hurt Patrick’s career and disappeared breaking both their hearts.

This was such a sweet read with Fallon giving up what he wanted most in order to protect Patrick’s promising career as a starting quarterback from being destroyed. Personally, I thought he gave up too easily but it made for an awesome book and ten years later they’re finally back in each other’s lives with Fallon as Patrick’s personal assistant though Patrick doesn’t recognize him. I LOVED how Patrick compared the beginning of their relationship and it’s sudden demise to a false start—a term common in sports—suggesting that the first time, simply wasn’t the right time for them but now, after all they’d been through, they were finally getting their chance to be together, it was seriously so dang sweet and had a fated feel to it.

Including first times, second chances, hidden identities, not too terribly much angst and an awesome HEA, this was such a good book and one I recommend whether or not you’ve read the two previous books, though I think you’re probably gonna want to as I’ve enjoyed all three. In my opinion, it’s a must read. 4.5 stars!

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

This the third book in the Brooklyn Kings series and my favorite! I was a little hesitant to read this one because of the private club. I’m not a kink person so I wasn’t sure what to expect. No worries……. There is no kink, sharing or cheating. Patrick and Fallon meet at the club and even though they are masked, have six wonderful months together. One night Patrick’s mask slips and Fallon realizes that he is a star college quarterback. Knowing that it won’t end well, Fallon slips out, leaving Patrick to wonder what happened. Fast forward ten years and Patrick is signed on as the Kings quarterback. Fallon’s job as Dev’s PA has been winding down now that he is retired, so Dev thinks the perfect solution is for Fallon to be Patrick’s PA. Against his better judgment, Fallon accepts. The old chemistry is still there, even though Patrick doesn’t realize that Fallon is his first love. I loved that it didn’t take as long as I thought for them to get back together again. I also loved that while they had to hide their relationship for a little while, Patrick was adamant that it would only be until after the Super Bowl. Patrick’s parents were great and gave Fallon the love and acceptance he didn’t get from his horrible parents. I was pleasantly surprised that Patrick’s teammates were supportive. The only negative for me was hearing about Patrick’s marriages and the other women. (I knew he was BI, it’s just a me thing). But once he realizes who Fallon is, there is no doubt who owns his heart. They are a very sweet couple and I loved the epilogue.

I enjoyed this one. It was easy to read and entertaining. I enjoyed getting to see and know Fallon more in this one and seeing Patrick coming into play. Interesting on their history and I love that they get their second chance since nothing really went bad between them. When Fallon learned Patrick's identity and that he was getting ready to enter the NFL and knowing what Dev was dealing with and going through, he disappeared. Now 10 years later, they are in close proximity again as Patrick has now been traded to the Kings and with Dev retired there isn't quite enough to keep Fallon super busy. Dev introduces them and pushes for Fallon to be his assistant as he thinks they would match well together, of course having no idea that they have a history. Fallon knows their connection immediately, but Patrick doesn't since they always wore masks before and Fallon looks different than he did 10 years ago. The instant connection and chemistry is still there between the two of them and they never forgot the other. No one else really matched up to the feelings and connection they had. They definitely have to work through some things and I loved how Patrick was all in though once the connection was made with the past. They have to deal with and make tough decisions about hiding their relationship and what that looks like and how they can handle it and for how long. I enjoyed the way that this one played out and was engaged and entertained the entire time. Loved getting to see Dev and Brody as well.

LEAVE THE BEST FOR LAST!💕🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🤫🎭🏟️

Nooooo why is this the last book of the series?
Why can’t there be more Brooklyn King players?

“A private club. Anonymous. No names and masks on. He catches my eye and we meet every week.”

An unusual meet cute for these two characters- Anonymous with masks in an exclusive gay sex club called Intensity which surprised them both as it was their first time there and they just clicked with a deep connection that lasted six months until it ended abruptly…

Ten years later their paths cross again thanks to Devlon and Brody Summers…

Patrick “Trick” Sloane 31 now star quarterback for the Brooklyn Kings, twice divorced with an on off girlfriend convinces Dev’s top sports PA Fallon Mackenzie 31 to work for him, unknowingly opening up old wounds and igniting two broken hearts to finally beat as one… ❤️‍🩹💗

“I craved him like an addict, only my drug was Patrick Sloane.”

It’s the count down to the Super-bowl and this is where their love story begins as their beginning ten years ago was nothing but a FALSE START but Patrick is still in the closet and Fallon is out and proud…

Will this be a new play? 🏈
Will Patrick keep Fallon a secret?…🤫
Will Fallon reveal their past connection?

I loved them, they were just couple goals with supporting friends and teammates and especially Patrick’s parents- wow just wow 🤩

A tear jerker of an epilogue follows two years later with another Super-bowel - sigh - now we say goodbye to a series of characters that became like family…💕

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

This was such a great second chance romance. I loved the unique way Fallon and Patrick first met — it gave them a once-in-a-lifetime, unforgettable connection without the baggage of a failed relationship. Fast forward ten years later, Fallon knows exactly who Patrick is, while Patrick has no idea that the young man he fell so hard for back then is now his new PA. The tension of waiting for that reveal? So good.

Their chemistry is still off the charts, both emotionally and physically (seriously, Fallon’s dirty mouth was a surprise in the best way). And while there’s plenty of heat, there’s just as much heart — Patrick is so clearly head over heels, determined to make this second chance count.

I also loved seeing Dev and Brody step in like big brothers for Fallon, and Patrick’s parents were absolute gems, welcoming Fallon with open arms even before knowing how deep things ran.

If I had one small gripe, it’s that Fallon’s tendency to make decisions for others out of fear dragged on a bit. Totally understandable given his past, but I wished he’d trusted Patrick’s words sooner.

Still, Fallon and Patrick were swoon-worthy, both in their college days and as adults figuring it all out. No third act breakup, a found family that truly shines, and a sweet HEA that felt earned.

If you’re into second chance romances with no unnecessary drama and plenty of steam, definitely pick this up. It’s the kind of book you can devour in an afternoon.

Amazing second chance romance

Felice Stevens and Kale Williams are a perfect combination for me, which is why I was really looking forward to the audiobook!
False Start is the third book in the Brooklyn Kings series and can be read or listened to independently.
Fallon and Patrick meet in an anonymous sex club and spend a hot six months together, during which Fallon falls in love with Patrick. But when he accidentally discovers his identity, he withdraws, because Patrick is an up-and-coming football star. A man who would never come out, at least that's what Fallon thinks. The chemistry between the two is definitely there and palpable to the reader.
Ten years later, the two meet again, this time in a professional context. The chemistry is still there, but both are more mature, or should be. No wonder the two eventually grow closer. But honestly, I would have loved to shake Fallon a few times so he would finally stop running away! Boy, that was pretty frustrating at times.
That aside, I really liked the story and the setting. The writing style was wonderful as always, and the story doesn't have any major drama.
I listened to the audiobook almost in one sitting. Kale Williams gave an absolutely magnificent performance and conveyed the emotions and characters well. I loved how he brought Fallon and Patrick's story to life!

A sweet romance that reunites two former lovers who met at a club known for its discretion. Patrick “Trick” Sloan can’t risk having his interests being known in the world of football. At the club, he meets and falls in love with a gorgeous blond man.  The feelings were mutual, but it could never be long-term.

Ten years later, Patrick made it big. He is now a quarterback in the NFL for the Brooklyn Kings. He needs an assistant, and former football superstar Devlin has retired and doesn’t need his PA as much as he used to. He suggests to Fallon that he should work for the new quarterback. There are reasons why Patrick does not recognize Fallon, but his new assistant knows who he is. Patrick was his first love, whom he left years ago.

Patrick is full of swagger, but is a decent guy, and former love interests have used his fame. He is deeply attracted to Fallon and doesn’t understand why his new PA is so indifferent to him.

Eventually, the past catches up to the men, and what once was potent still remains the same. Revealing his new love could destroy Patrick’s stellar career. Fallon is not pressuring, but Patrick feels boxed in.

This is a low angst and tender romance that is sure to make you smile. Happy reading.

False Start- Felice Stevens - Brooklyn Kings Book 3

Tropes: First times, Virgin & Gay Virgin, Masked Anonymous hookups, Exclusive Sex Club, left without saying goodbye, Pining, 10 yrs on, Second Chance, Football Player/ PA, Friends to Lovers, Closeted

The story starts when they are 21 and in College in California. They hook up in an exclusive sex club wearing masks and don’t know who each other are. When Patrick's mask slips off, Fallon recognizes him as an up-and-coming football star and decides to walk away to save his football career.

Jump ahead 10 years and Patrick is the new starting quarterback for the Brooklyn Kings. Fallon is the PA & friend for the old one. Patrick still doesn’t know who Fallon is, but they become friends while working together. Through a series of coincidences and Fallon’s guilt for not telling him he comes clean. The get together in a secret relationship until the end of the season because Patrick doesn’t want to hide their love.

It is a sweet and sexy football romance, with a good balance of spice and storyline.
I own several of Felice stevens books, but this is the first one I have read so far. I will be going back to read the other 2 books in this series, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was fine, but I wanted to see more of Patrick’s teammates and the focus seemed to be about their secret past and then going public, which I wasn’t that interested in.

Patrick and Fallon meet at a private club where they anonymously see each other every week and develop feelings for each other until Fallon discovers who Patrick is. Fallon decides to disappear because he thinks that’s the best choice for Patrick’s career. They meet again ten years later when Fallon is being introduced to Patrick to work for him. Fallon instantly recognises him and so tries to not take the job while Patrick doesn’t and convinces Fallon to work for him. They’re attracted to each other, but I don’t think anything happens between them until Fallon confesses about their shared past.

I didn’t mind Patrick and Fallon or the side characters, but I wasn’t completely invested in them either. Also, the main characters from the previous books in this series only appear briefly, despite Devlin being a good friend to both of them.

While I liked how Patrick and Fallon’s relationship reveal happened and other’s reactions (everyone seemed to be accepting and supportive), I would have preferred more detailed scenes with them.
