As snow falls over Micklewick Bay, Lark Harker is preparing for the busy festive season at her vintage clothing boutique, creating enchanting window displays of sequinned dresses and crafting handmade Christmas decorations from shimmering silk ribbon.
But her festive preparations are put on hold when Nate Wilkinson arrives at her cottage door. The owner of a local upcycling business, Nate asks for her help clearing out the long-abandoned Crayke’s Cottage – a place locals whisper is cursed and haunted by its smuggling past.
Deep within the cottage’s shadowy rooms, Lark discovers two mysterious leather suitcases. The first reveals a treasure trove of 1940s clothes that sparkle with wartime romance and mystery. But the second holds a darker smuggling artefacts, cryptic coded messages and a rusty iron key that gets Lark’s mind racing.
As Lark consults the town’s museum curator to unlock the suitcases’ secrets, she finds herself torn between growing feelings for her dear friend Nate and her inexplicable intuition that warns her away from love. When the rusty key leads to a shocking discovery in the cottage, Lark must trust her instincts and overcome her fears to finally find the greatest treasure of all…
Escape to Micklewick Bay in this uplifting, emotional, feel-good page-turner that sparkles with Christmas magic, perfect for fans of Heidi Swain, Jenny Colgan and Phillipa Ashley.
Eliza writes heartwarming romance stories with happy endings.
She lives in North Yorkshire with her family. When she’s not writing, she can usually be found with her nose in a book/glued to her Kindle or working in her garden. Eliza also enjoys bracing walks in the countryside, rounded off by a visit to a teashop where she can indulge in another two of her favourite things: tea and cake.
Eliza is inspired by her beautiful surroundings and loves to write stories that will make you cry tears of joy, laughter and sadness.
I received a free copy of, A Snowy Seaside Christmas by Eliza J Scott, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book six of six in the Micklewick Bay series. Lark Hunter loves vintage things, which s why she runs a vintage clothing store. A friend asks Lark to help him clear out an abandoned cottage. This was a cozy holiday read, I liked Lark a lot.
A cozy mystery, with comforting Christmas energy and some sweet, wholesome romance! 4.5 stars rounded up!
This title is part of The Micklewick Bay series, but does act as a standalone (as I think each of the books do). While it is nice to have read some of the other books prior, since you will recognize some of the characters and have a connection to them- it really shouldn’t be much of a bother if you haven’t. So, have no fear if it’s your first step into the series. You can still enjoy it.
I have read some of Eliza J. Scott’s writing in the past, and really liked it! This particular story was slightly different from what I would typically expect from her, but no less enjoyable.
We still get those warm, cozy, small-town vibes, with all of the happy friendship and love stories that we usually get from her Micklewick Bay series. Which of course, I love. But this book comes with an added element of mystery and some mystical psychic themes. This makes it feel different from your typical Christmas romance novel, and I think that makes it a lot more fun. If you’re looking for something new and unique to read this upcoming holiday season, you might want to give this a go.
As for romance, this has the slow burn and friends-to-lovers tropes. I don’t feel like the relationship between Lark and Nate is the main focus here, it is more of a side plot. But, I personally think that works well given that this series is so friendship and found-family focused.
Note: I love the incorporation of the Northern England/Yorkshire way of speaking. I just think it adds such a fun touch, and some personality. It also helps me imagine these characters interacting with each other, which is great.
Thanks to this story, I think I long for a cold Yorkshire Christmas. With mince pies! I'm so excited to read more from this author in the future.
Thank you to Netgalley, Storm Publishing and author Eliza J. Scott for providing me with the eARC of “A Snowy Seaside Christmas”, in exchange for my honest review! Publication date: October 17th, 2025
I have thoroughly enjoyed each of the friend's stories in this series so far so was looking forward to Larks.
It was great to learn more about Lark, her background, her love of crystals and all things vintage, as well as her special gift.
I loved the friendship between Lark and Nate and hoped this would develop. I liked getting to know Lark’s Dad and hoped things would turn out well for him.
There are so many great characters in this series, apart from a few, and I liked the addition of the new ones.
I felt this book had everything you need for a great story. There is romance, families, friendship, community spirit as well as a mystery to solve.
I couldn't wait to get back to Micklewick Bay. I absolutely love it there. The residents are charming. The scenes are Christmas card worthy. And it always makes me smile.
This is the sixth book of the series...somebody please tell me it's not the last?
Snow is falling, fairy lights are twinkling and there's Christmas magic in the air...
It's wonderfully heartwarming, romantic, and the intrigue surrounding the mysterious suitcases the icing on the cake for me.
This book is actually book number six from a seven book series called Micklewick Bay. Even though each book can very easily be read as a stand alone they are always much better when enjoyed as part of the whole series.
Right from the very beginning i was pulled into this books pages, it was definitely a page-turner and once i started it I just couldn’t stop until i had read every last page and devoured it all up - perfect!
I really loved Lark and Nate, they were both so real and such down to earth characters that were beautifully written and definitely had a slow burn romance. I also loved Luna and Bobby and absolutely loved reading about these two!
A Snowy Seaside Christmas is set in the gorgeous seaside town of Micklewick Bay and i loved getting immersed in all its uplifting goodness.
I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming, nostalgic, feel good story…it was set in the busy festive season and has just a sprinkle of wonderful christmas magic. It is such a wonderful, cosy romance with a nice little dusting of mystery thrown in for good measure, beautifully written and just what i needed to read…..
This is book six in this series. Lark and Nate find two suitcases in an old hose he has been clearing out. Both cases hold some surprises. This was an easy to read book. It has a small mystery to solve and some romance.
A Snowy Seaside Christmas is a heartwarming and enchanting festive read, set in the picturesque seaside town of Micklewick Bay. Eliza J. Scott has crafted another beautiful installment in her series, this time giving Lark Harker her own story, and it’s a true delight for fans of cozy romance with a touch of mystery.
Lark, owner of a vintage clothing boutique, is busy preparing magical Christmas displays and crafting shimmering decorations when her friend Nate Wilkinson arrives, asking for help with the abandoned Crayke’s Cottage. What begins as a practical task soon unfolds into a charming and intriguing mystery. Between two mysterious suitcases—one filled with sparkling 1940s clothes, the other with smuggling artefacts, coded messages, and a rusty iron key—Lark is drawn into a story that blends festive nostalgia, a hint of danger, and historical secrets.
The romance between Lark and Nate is a slow burn, tenderly written and entirely believable. Their friendship adds depth to their eventual connection, and the emotional beats are perfectly balanced with moments of humor and everyday charm. The supporting characters, especially Luna the cat and Bobby the dog, add warmth and comic relief, practically stealing every scene they’re in.
Scott’s portrayal of Micklewick Bay is immersive: you can feel the crisp sea air, hear the waves crashing, and experience the small-town community spirit. The blend of festive cheer, cozy mystery, and emotional resonance makes this book feel like a warm blanket on a snowy winter evening.
This installment also adds a layer of intrigue with the smuggling mystery, giving the story a touch of suspense without ever overshadowing the gentle, uplifting tone. Scott’s writing is skillful, combining nostalgia, romance, and curiosity in a way that keeps the pages turning.
Overall, A Snowy Seaside Christmas is a perfect Christmas read—comforting, magical, and thoroughly engaging. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Micklewick Bay series or joining Lark’s world for the first time, this story will leave you smiling, with your heart full and a craving for mince pies.
Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and Eliza J. Scott for providing the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC !
Lark Harker was such a great main character—her vintage boutique in Micklewick Bay made the perfect backdrop, and when she discovered two mysterious suitcases just as the snow began to fall, I was completely drawn in. I loved the mix of romance and mystery, especially with Nate by her side. Their chemistry added warmth, and the seaside setting with snow swirling over the waves gave it that magical Christmas feel.
The community spirit, twinkling lights, and touches of history made this more than just a holiday romance—it was cozy, heartfelt, and uplifting. A wonderful festive read that’s perfect for curling up with by the fire.
A Snowy Seaside Christmas is the sixth title in the Micklewick Bay series. I have not read the earlier books, yet I didn’t feel the least bit lost, as anything I really needed to know was addressed in either the narrative or the dialogue. I will definitely be checking out this series from the beginning now.
Lark and Nate have been friends for so long now. They might become more, but Lark always hesitates and holds back her true feelings. Nate owns an upscaling business, taking older items and revamping, repairing, or repurposing them for resale. Lark owns a vintage clothing boutique… and has a touch of precognition about items that she comes across, and certain “feelings” about people she meets. The cottage that Nate has asked Lark to help him clear out will certainly activate all of Lark’s psychic vibes about not only the property itself but also the items within. They are about to set out on a bit of a mystery, the smuggling history of the area playing strongly into their story. Their joint adventure will bring mystery and perhaps clarity to their relationship that is needed before they each can move forward.
I enjoyed A Snowy Seaside Christmas by Eliza J Scott. It easily drew me in and kept me guessing throughout Nate and Lark’s story. It’s well-written, full of emotions, a touch of mystery, a bit of a magical feel, and friends who could become so much more if they only let their walls down a bit and took a risk on what they’re both feeling. It’s not always easy to jump into a series that’s (at this point) six books in, but I found the story could easily be read as a standalone, as it intrigued me enough to want to know more about the people I met here. It’s always a plus for me when I discover a new-to-me author that I enjoyed and want to read more of their work.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review, giving my personal opinion about this book.*
As this is the sixth in the series, you get to catch up with several of the characters and locations that you have met before. The central characters in this story are Lark and Nate and the story felt a little different in tone. I think it is because there is a hint of magic realism in the story as they set about clearing out the gloomy Crayke's Cottage. Lark has certain psychic abilities which she has tried to dampen down.Nevertheless, she is very sensitive to her surroundings and gets feelings about people she meets. This causes her to worry about Nate, who she has held as a close friend for years and she shies away from the attraction she feels for him, despite the disparity in their age.
The area is full of tales of past smugglers and these feel central to the history of Crayke Cottage. Lark's father is beginning to come to terms with the death of his partner and arrives in Middlewick hoping for a fresh start. A history teacher, he is drawn to the history of the area and forms a friendship with like minded people. Lark has some deep seated misgivings to sort through but throughout, you feel that Nate is a true friend who genuinely likes her. As the snow falls, Lark begins to get clarity about her feelings. This wintry romance has a lot to offer for the season and provides a great return to Middlewick Bay and the friendships the characters have.
In short: heartwarming reading Thanks to the publisher
This is another book in the Micklewick Bay series, but very easily read as a standalone! And it's another warming installment of goings on in this small community and this time we are introduced to Lark who lives at seaside cottage and runs a vintage clothing business, and is best friends with Nate who runs an upcycling business so their work often runs in tandem.
when he asks her for help in clearing an old cottage they start off with weird vibes in the house and the mystery then deepens as to what link this cottage has to the past and with her 'sixth sense' powers they start to investigate and I found this part of the story really entertaining. I love the old history of places and that feeling if only buildings could talk!
There's lots of drama going on both with trying to solve this mystery alongside some personal issues and I liked how the pace of the story nicely clipped along so there was always something going on to entertain you , and the characters of Lark and Nate were also so lovely too that you were so invested in them as people both professionally and personally! A lovely read!
This is the first book in the Micklewick series that I have read. It centers on Lark Harper, a vintage clothing boutique owner and Nate Wilkinson, an upcycle business owner that turns old furniture into refreshed furniture for his customers.
Even though this is Christmas feel good story, I had a sense of mystery as they try to figure out what is going on with an older home that Nate has been hired to clear out. The owner wants to sell the home but does not want to enter the home nor does he want any of the items. Nate gets into a tight spot and his friends become worried.
I liked how Lark’s father comes to visit and scopes out the town for a possible home and job. He looks forward to seeing his daughter on a more frequent basis.
I look forward to reading more by Eliza J. Scott. Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to read this advanced readers copy. These are my own opinions.
Thank you for allowing me to review this latest book in the Micklewick Bay series. I enjoyed the mystery of Crakes Cottage and the links to smuggling. It was set nicely alongside Nate and Lark's friendship. These characters had appeared in previous books, which tend to follow the story of different villagers. If you are new to the series, then don't let that stop you from reading this book, as backgrounds are given where needed. This is a different Christmas and story to many that are written and I enjoyed it for that reason. I can recommend this book to those who enjoy cosy stories with a mystery as well.
Another sweet book in this series, this time with Lark. Lark and good friend Nate find some interesting mysteries when clearing out and old cottage and then Lark's ability to sense aura puts her tight friendship and hidden love for Nate at risk. Reads fine alone but better in series.
Full disclosure - I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
A very cozy and nice read December read ♥ I really liked getting to know Lark and Nate. They were amazing MCs. And Micklewick Bay seemed such a wonderful place! The mystery was also pretty good! Cozy and atmospheric, this holiday romance pairs scenic charm with gentle emotion. Eliza J. Scott’s writing is warm and inviting, perfect for festive reading.
Another heart warming Micklewick Bay story showing that anything can be overcome with the right friends and family around you. I enjoy the ups and downs of these stories and belief in humanity, giving so much atmosphere and feel good sensation.
This is a really lovely read. I very much enjoyed the historical aspect. While I read this as a stand-alone book, it is part of a series, Mickelwick Bay, and I suspect I would also enjoy the other books set in this village.
A Snowy Seaside Christmas by Eliza J. Scott. Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for my gifted ARC.
There’s a certain kind of book you pick up in the fall because you know it’ll do the heavy lifting for your seasonal mood. The candles are lit, the blanket is draped, the mug is steaming, and all you need is a story that doesn’t require you to think too hard but still makes you feel like you’re being hugged by fictional people who probably own too many fairy lights. A Snowy Seaside Christmas is that book, and Eliza J. Scott knows exactly what she’s doing. By now, we’re six books deep into Micklewick Bay, and the place has developed that cozy, lived-in feel—like Stars Hollow but with more Yorkshire grit and a lingering whisper of smuggler curses.
Lark Harker is our heroine this time, juggling her vintage clothing boutique with her inconvenient ability to sense things no one else can. She’s not just running a shop full of sequins and nostalgia—she’s wrestling with her own intuition, which insists on complicating her already messy feelings. Enter Nate Wilkinson, longtime friend, steady presence, owner of an upcycling business, and the kind of man who would probably fix your wobbly shelf and then apologize for not doing it sooner. Their dynamic is all about the slow burn, and while I adored it, there were moments when I wanted to bang their heads together and shout, “Yes, you like each other, now act on it before I turn to the dog for more decisive romantic energy.”
Speaking of which, let’s talk about Luna the cat and Bobby the dog. If you think animal sidekicks are optional in Christmas fiction, think again. These two practically ran away with the book. Whether it’s Luna slinking around like she owns the place or Bobby radiating loyal, goofy enthusiasm, they balance out the humans’ emotional dithering with pure, uncomplicated charm. Honestly, I’d read a spin-off novella just about their adventures in Micklewick Bay.
But it’s not all mistletoe and mince pies. When Lark and Nate start sorting through the mysterious Crayke’s Cottage, the tone shifts. This isn’t just a cozy romance—it’s got a thread of mystery woven in, with suitcases full of wartime clothes, cryptic smuggling artifacts, and one very rusty iron key that made me suspicious in all the right ways. I love that Scott doesn’t shy away from adding a dash of gothic atmosphere to her festive story; it keeps the sweetness from tipping into saccharine.
The setting, though, is the true star. Scott paints Micklewick Bay in such a way that you can practically hear the waves crashing against the shore while the snow falls in thick, silent layers. It’s not just quaint—it’s biting wind, stubborn weather, and the kind of community that thrives on gossip but also shows up for you when it counts. It’s easy to see why readers keep returning to this fictional seaside haven.
There were plenty of moments that made me grin, sigh, and occasionally roll my eyes in the best possible way. My favorite line: “Sometimes the heart knows before the head is ready to listen.” Yes, it’s romantic cheese, and yes, I highlighted it anyway, because who doesn’t want to be occasionally flattened by sincerity in between sarcastic asides? This book has the balance just right—comforting predictability with a few surprises tucked away like hidden gifts under the tree.
By the end, I was genuinely invested, not just in whether Lark and Nate would finally pull themselves together, but in the town, the history, and the little flickers of magic that make Christmas stories worth reading. Scott leans into the familiar beats of the genre but adds enough texture—through history, through atmosphere, through quirk—to keep things from feeling like recycled tinsel.
So, my verdict? This book is like a Christmas stocking: part sweets, part mystery, part unnecessary trinket you still weirdly love. It’s cozy escapism with teeth, and exactly the kind of read that makes you want to cancel real-life responsibilities, curl up, and let someone else’s holiday drama distract you from your own. Four and a half stars from me, generously rounded up because it left me smiling like a fool.
I went into A Snowy Seaside Christmas for twinkle lights, vintage fashion, and maybe a slow-burn kiss in the snow. What I did not expect was a full haunted seaside cottage, smuggler secrets, and our girl Lark absolutely vibing with ghost energy while pretending she’s not falling for her emotionally competent, furniture-recycling bestie. This book is like a Pinterest board that got possessed by a World War II widow and then still managed to serve piping hot cozy feelings with a side of slow-burn angst.
Lark Harker owns a vintage boutique in Micklewick Bay, and I swear to God, I would walk into that store and immediately black out from joy. Sequins, history, and handmade silk ribbon decor? Say less. But just as she’s prepping her storefront to out-Christmas every department store in Britain, Nate Wilkinson shows up at her cottage door like a sexy Labrador in work boots. He needs help clearing out Crayke’s Cottage, which the entire village whispers about like it’s the local murder shed. Naturally, they find two vintage suitcases, because this town does nothing without vintage flair, and one is giving “wartime romance” while the other is straight-up “local true crime podcast material.”
Inside: fabulous 1940s dresses, coded messages, smuggling artifacts, and a rusty iron key that practically screams “congratulations, you’ve unlocked a tragic backstory.” Lark, who is not just a boutique queen but also a human tuning fork for emotional vibes, immediately gets spooked by one suitcase while feeling nostalgic joy from the other. Honestly, this book would be a five-star Christmas read for the suitcases alone. I love when objects have trauma.
And then there’s the will-they-won’t-they of it all. Lark and Nate are the platonic ideal of “everyone in town already thinks you’re married,” but Lark has Intuition Issues. She’s got this deep-seated fear that the second she allows herself to love someone, the universe is going to yeet them out of existence. That’s a lot to unpack under the mistletoe. But Nate? Nate is so patient I wanted to shake him and yell “SIR, KISS HER IN FRONT OF THE SMUGGLER GHOSTS.”
Let’s also shout out the true scene-stealers: Luna the cat, who I’m convinced is a reincarnated Victorian widow, and Bobby the dog, who brings golden retriever energy in every possible sense. Between the enchanted pets, the cursed cottage, and the town’s unbothered attitude about local hauntings, this book is basically “Gilmore Girls but everyone has a past life and seasonal trauma.”
Now, does the romantic tension sometimes stretch on like one of those Hallmark movies where you’re screaming “just kiss already” through a mouthful of gingerbread? Yes. Did I care? Not really. The vibes were immaculate. The mystery was compelling without getting too dark, and the Christmas elements? Peak twinkly chaos. Bonus points for Lark’s aura readings and the fact that the plot involves literal smuggler codes and a cottage that probably has at least three unsolved crimes in the walls.
There were plenty of moments that made me grin, sigh, and occasionally roll my eyes in the best possible way. This book has the balance just right. Comforting predictability with a few surprises tucked away like hidden gifts under the tree.
By the end, I was genuinely invested, not just in whether Lark and Nate would finally pull themselves together, but in the town, the history, and the little flickers of magic that make Christmas stories worth reading. Scott leans into the familiar beats of the genre but adds enough texture through history, through atmosphere, through quirk to keep things from feeling like recycled tinsel.
So, my verdict? This book is like a Christmas stocking. Part sweets, part mystery, part unnecessary trinket you still weirdly love. It’s cozy escapism with teeth, and exactly the kind of read that makes you want to cancel real-life responsibilities, curl up, and let someone else’s holiday drama distract you from your own. Solid 3.5 stars.
Merry Mayhem Prize: For Featuring a Ghost-Adjacent Suitcase and the Slowest of Slow Burns in a Town That Definitely Has a Ghost Tour
Big thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC, you’ve officially made me want to sage my living room and fall in love with my handyman. Again.
In typical fashion for this series, this book is mainly centered on the life of one of the wonderful ladies in the friends group who live in Micklewick Bay. This time we get to learn more about calm, cool, laid back, Lark, who runs Lark's Vintage Bazaar where she sells vintage clothing, aromatherapy products, and a selection of crystals. Lark has a way of picking up on the vibes of others and being able to read their aura and that ability extends to the vintage clothing she sells. She only carries items in her shop that hold happy memories and positive vibes and she only fills her little home, Seashell Cottage, with the same. In addition to the usual group of friends, Jasmine, Florrie, Maggie, and Stella, Lark also spends much of her time with her friend, Nate, who runs an upcycling shop where he takes old furniture and housewares and repurposes and reinvigorates them into items that his customers love. The two of them find themselves clearing out a cottage that has been closed up for ages in Old Micklewick. Nate bought all of the contents from the owner who is all too eager to have Nate clear Crayke's Cottage, the cold and spooky cottage purported to have ties to the smuggling trade that took place in the seventeen-hundreds, so that it can be put on the market. Lark and Nate both salvage items that they can sell in their respective shops. Throughout the book, Lark finds herself drawn more and more to Nate as much more than a friend, but she just can't seem to allow herself to take the step into a relationship with him. The book, of course, has an appearance of nasty Dodgy Dick and his annoying wife, Wendy, and they are no better than they've been in previous stories. On a positive note, Lark's father, Silas, comes to stay with her and has big news to share. Take the time to visit Micklewick Bay and get to know Lark, Nate, and everyone else a bit more and see what the story and the future holds for them. This is another great addition to this charming series by Eliza J. Scott.
A Snowy Seaside Christmas by Eliza J. Scott is the sixth book in the Micklewick Bay series and centers on Lark Harker and her friendship with Nate Wilkinson. If you have read the previous five books, you know Lark’s friends are pushing for a romance between the two, but Lark is hesitant.
Nate asks her to help clean out Crayke’s Cottage, Lark takes home two suitcases, hoping for items to sell at her vintage store. Lark often gets a sixth sense on objects, and one suitcase gives her visions of a happy life. The second suitcase contains smuggling artefacts, cryptic coded messages, and a rusty iron key, and fills her with a sense of dread. Nate and Lark turn to the heritage center to learn more about the owner of the suitcases and meet the new curator, Louisa.
Lark’s father, Silas, prepares to move to Micklewick Bay after having been a widower for three years. He becomes involved in Lark’s search for answers about the mysterious suitcase and strikes up a friendship with Louisa. This makes Lark happy because her father has been very depressed since his wife’s death and his friendship with Louisa adds joy to his life.
I enjoy that Lark’s friends and relatives are accepting of her gifts of feelings and visions. There is a lot of time spent on Lark’s feelings towards Nate and her visions and how they impact on her relationships with others that overwhelm the story at times. If she feels like Nate could have a physical ailment or something wrong, why not tell him? It’s not like he doesn’t know she has a sense of things to come.
Overall, readers will enjoy this story of Lark and Nate, especially if you have read the previous books in the series. There is a sense of “about time” to this book and all her friends certainly agree to that. I like the new beginning for her father, also. I’m not sure if there will be future books in the series since all the friends have paired up, but I hope so because you feel like they are your friends and enjoy getting a peek into their lives.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a delight it is to be back in Micklewick Bay with Eliza J Scott’s latest romantic charmer, A Snowy Seaside Christmas.
Vintage clothing boutique owner Lark Harker is busy getting ready for the festive season, however, her Yuletide plans are put on hold when Nate Wilkinson arrives at her door with a proposition. The owner of a local upcycling business, Nate needs Lark’s help clearing out a local cottage the locals swear is cursed and haunted by its smuggling past. Deep within Crayke’s Cottage, Lark and Nate discover two mysterious leather suitcases: one holding 1940s clothing and the other a much darker collection: smuggling artefacts, cryptic messages and an old key that soon gets their minds racing…
Determined to get to the bottom of this mystery and unlock the secrets hidden within the suitcases, Lark finds herself relying on Nate and as the two of them begin to get closer and closer, sparks quickly begin to fly. Yet, Lark has always kept her heart under lock and key. But will her stubborn determination to stay single end up costing her this chance at happiness?
When the rusty key leads to another shocking discovery, Lark realises that she can only move forward if she trust her instincts, listens to her gut and follows her heart…
Eliza J Scott writes gorgeous escapist romances perfect for Jessica Redland and Julie Shackman fans. A Snowy Seaside Christmas is a witty, emotional and uplifting romantic read that tugs at the heartstrings, tickles the funny bone and will keep readers gleefully turning the pages late into the night.
Just the thing to curl up with on a dull autumnal day, A Snowy Seaside Christmas by Eliza J Scott is a treat romantics everywhere deserve!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nate and Lark have provided the backbone to Middlewick Bay’s lovely friendship group since the first book, although they have also appeared in the Life on the Moors series. Despite their obvious chemistry, Lark has placed Nate firmly in the friendship zone and has become adept at ignoring her instincts, which pull her towards him.
They each have similar businesses that deal with upcycled and second-hand goods. Nate works with furniture, and Lark sells clothing and Bric-a-Brac. They often work together on house clearances, and that is how they come to be working at Crayke’s Cottage, a house steeped in rumour and legend that harks back to the time of smugglers. Lark’s spooky senses go into overdrive as they spend time in the cottage, and she’s left feeling unsettled with no desire to return. However, they uncover some real treasures, giving them hope that not all is lost.
Lark’s world is set off balance when Nate goes AWOL, and she is unable to find him. Battling with a shift in her feelings, she feels both determined to locate him and overwhelmed by thoughts of not seeing him again.
I adore Lark and Nate, and that has been a constant through each book. Their relationship is less a will-they-or-won't-they and more a why won’t they, but all of that was revealed as I turned the pages. Each book I have read by this author feels like a breath of fresh air. There’s hope and sadness woven into the pages, but I never felt like the ending wouldn’t bring happiness.
If you have yet to visit Micklewick Bay, there are plenty of opportunities in Eliza’s back catalogue. Each is as gorgeous as the next, and I would defy you not to be drawn to the location and the characters. Perfect to go with a soft blanket and a mug of hot chocolate!
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My Opinion
A Snowy Seaside Christmas is the sixth book in the Micklewick Bay series. Eliza J. Scott has written a lovely, heart-warming festive novel. With a side of mystery, this will make for a great holiday read. It was nice to catch up with some familiar characters in a lovely setting.
How can one resist a book with the subtitle "Welcome to your Happy Place?" A happy holiday read was exactly what I was seeking when I came upon A Snowy Seaside Christmas. Although this is the sixth book in Eliza J. Scott's Micklewick Bay series, it's easy to step in here without benefit of the earlier installments.
This is a perfect book for anyone who wants a heavy dose of Christmas spirit, complete with much snow, beautiful fairy lights, good food, and a double dose of romance. All of the characters are richly relatable, except a few villains who, fortunately, have very minor roles. The settings are beautifully described, right down to the bone-chilling cold winds off the North Sea and the eerie cottage that holds historical treasure.
Once I adjusted to the colloquial English seaside dialect, the story was an easy read. There was just one point that was extremely frustrating; the main character, Lark, is grappling with feelings for a male friend and she "makes a mistake", as she says. That's all I'll mention to avoid spoilers, but suffice to say her actions were maddening to read. However, that's the sign of an excellent writer - one who stirs emotion in the reader.
I suppose I've read too many mysteries, because I kept looking for a hidden agenda/plot twist, but there is none. This is simply a lovely story about relationships, holidays, family, and a bit of history. It was truly a peaceful pleasure to read.
