I won a copy of Scran - thank you Ali Stoner 💕 and it's absolutely terrific! Scottish traditional food with a contemporary twist and presented so it feels modern and fresh.

Ali has an Instagram page - roving haggis - where she chats about a recipe and then makes it. It's accessible, easy to follow and beautifully produced. This book is all that, with gorgeous pics of the recipes and chit-chat to put it all in context. Everything is so appetising, recipes work, and based on the ones I tried, ingredients translate well from Scotland to Australia. Some are worth making just for the name! Clootie Dumplings, or rumbledethumps, anyone?

My bestest pick is the Iced and Spiced Fruit Gingerbread, which is more ginger fruitcake than biscuit., but there's so many sweet and savoury treats here. Fabulous!

Thank you again Ali (and Mitchell Beasley) for the early copy - I'm so happy with this Scottish recipe book.

Nice to see a book on my local, native cuisine, with recipes on how to make things I usually buy, like morning rolls and tattie scones. I was a bit surprised how cheese seemed to creep into a few recipes I'd never have expected (e.g. bridie pastry), but that's fine, I can just omit it. As a local, I must admit I've never cooked with Irn Bru, so that'll be new... Just fyi, oatcakes are great with Cullen Skink too, though it's not mentioned here.

Ive waited in all day for this to arrive!

It’s Such a beautiful book of recipe’s and photos. I’ve followed Ali Stoner for a few years on her instagram @rovinghaggis and love her way of mixing in the modern with the old.

I’ve got a weekend booked in to make soup, tablet and shortbread! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙌🙌
