Wompus Stompus Should NOT Drive is an absolute joy to read out loud! The repetition, rhythm, and Wompus’s hilarious confidence had my kids laughing from the first stomp to the last “Wissa Wassa Woo-hoo!” The vehicle theme is perfect for little ones, and they loved guessing what Wompus would try to drive next. This is one of those books kids demand again and again, and honestly, I don’t mind rereading it at all. A definite win for bedtime or storytime!
This book nails everything a great children’s story should be: humor, anticipation, and audience participation. My child quickly picked up on the patterns and started shouting Wompus’s signature phrase before I could finish the sentence. The idea of a monster with a giant foot trying to drive is silly in the best way, and the message about speed and safety is woven in without feeling preachy. Highly recommended for preschoolers and early elementary kids.
We already loved Wompus Stompus, and this installment did not disappoint. The pacing is great, the humor lands every time, and the stomping chaos is just the kind of fun kids adore. My toddler claps and laughs every time Wompus jumps into a new vehicle. If you’re looking for a book that sparks giggles, participation, and repeated requests, Wompus Stompus Should NOT Drive is an easy recommendation.
As a parent and former teacher, I’m always on the lookout for books that encourage prediction and engagement and this one delivers. The lively repetition makes it perfect for group read alouds, and kids LOVE being in on the joke. Wompus Stompus is mischievous but lovable, and the escalating “uh-oh” moments keep children hooked. This would be a fantastic addition to any classroom or home library.
