I received an ARC copy and was very excited to read and review The Cat.

It's a fast-paced, quick read and delivers what one expects from a YA horror novella.

It checked a bunch of nostalgic boxes for me:
Firstly, because it's set in the South African bushveld, it reminded me of spending holidays in Marloth Park next to the Kruger National Park. I think South Africans will appreciate reading a novel set in their own country for a change, seeing things that are unique to our culture shown in such an interesting way.
People outside of South Africa reading this one will also be delighted to find themselves experiencing the thrill in such a unique setting.
Secondly, the style of writing is very reminiscent of the Goosebumps books, though this one is aimed at an older audience, so expect the characters to talk and act as such.
It's a strong little book in the horror novella genre. A fun, fast-paced read sure to delight younger and older audiences alike. Especially those who enjoy a rather ambiguous ending that leaves your imagination free to run wild.
