I loved Higashino's Salvation of a Saint and The Devotion of Suspect X. Malice and A Midsummer's Equation were enjoyable, but not nearly as remarkable. This, though: this was something else, written by someone else. Much like the book's cover--terribly apropos--it suffered from vague character outlines, wildly specific details of inanities, and a general lack of attention to the (normal) scenic clarity that elevates Higashino above the ordinary.
This story begins shortly after the third anniversary of Saori Namiki's disappearance when she was nineteen. A decrepit house has burned down in Tokyo and her remains were identified in the rubble. Chief Inspector Kusanagi and his team are assigned the case because of a curious connection they have to the chief suspect. Most unusually, they had a disastrous encounter with him almost two decades earlier when a young child went missing. Higashino almost always (at least, that I recall) has truly terrible people as murder victims, which builds in reader sympathy for the killer. With that knowledge, I had a feeling I knew what the main course would consist of, but it wasn't until Part Two, at page 87, that we finally reached the meat of the story.
Oh, how I was looking forward to this book, but the pace! The pacing was terrible. We spend pages with the grieving family as the police revisit the missing-persons case (we also get a plethora of details about said house). It's terribly slow, and it turns out to be somewhat of a useless preface; the book isn't about Saori's death as much as it's about (mild spoiler) and that's a very odd thing indeed. Once we reach Part Two, Saori and the family almost disappear from the pages.
Part Two transforms into obsessive Sherlockian details, with timing, placement and clues being examined in minute detail. It's extremely fussy, and while I tried to follow along at first, after the first double-back, I gave up. The (mild spoiler) is an insanely complicated (but naturally, diabolically clever) murder route. This is the detailed section of the story, where physics and volume come into heavy discussion. I kid you not. Higashino must have been reading some Andy Weir and got tempted to play along. At one point, I was so disinterested in finishing that I peeked at other reviews. Encouragingly, they promised a twist ending. This does indeed happen, but the pacing contrast to the beginning of the book is startling.
Higashino's particular specialty is turning the traditional questions of where-when-why-how and looking at them from unusual angles. This one feels a little like Salvation of a Saint in that much of it is a locked-room sort of mystery. I was also getting a strong feel of Murder on the Orient Express vibes as I read (for those worried about spoilers, I wrote this before finishing the book). Perhaps also giving me a Christie vibe was the cast list at the front of the book. Regardless, nothing here really stands up to the emotional or intellectual puzzle of Salvation and Suspect X.
The most enjoyable sections were scenes at the Namiki family restuarant/bar where it all began. I got the feel for the cultural of the local establishment, the way people would drop in for a meal on the way home or for a weekly night out with friends. Yet much like watching people come and go from the corner booth, we never get too close to their lives, only their expressions and thoughts of the moment. And seriously, who passes up the chance to go into loving detail about foods and drinks? And allows one of their detectives to order a virgin Moscow Mule? Oh, the literary horror.
Speaking of literary horror, I can't help but notice that my two favorites of his were translated by Alexander O. Smith, while this one, and unfortunately an upcoming release, are translated by Giles Murray. (There's a online interview of the two that's an interesting read). Is it Higashino aging? Translator skill? Or both? I can't help but think how much I enjoyed Robert B. Parker's Spencer books at the beginning, but found them to be lightweight copies by the end of his career. Perhaps there is a similar phenomenon happening.
The other aspect I enjoyed were the snippets into Japanese life. In this case, the criminal system was highlighted. Apparently the police--and the public--place a great deal of value on confessions. Also interesting was the small bit of detail about the local parade. Hiashino doesn't include much however; most of it I found on my own. Japan is known for matsuri, community celebrations, often religious or seasonally connected, but occasionally just reflecting the local people's tastes. It doesn't seem like The Silent Parade is based on a particular matsuri, although interestingly, there is one that became a 'silent' dance festival after there were too many noise complaints.
Well, rather than read the next, I really should give my two favorites a re-read. After all, I've only read them once.

Keigo Higashino's writing style entices me to read more of his books. 😍
This book revolves around a few murder cases that need to be solved.
Silent Parade is a convoluted crime story with many suspects.
The plot is intricate, complex, yet thrilling. 🕵️
I also discovered that he has many newer books available in Japanese, Chinese, and other languages, although not all have been translated into English.
Too many suspects, too many secrets—Silent Parade keeps you guessing till the end. 🔍

This may be the 9th in the Detective Galileo series, but it’s the first I’ve read. But I had no trouble jumping into the series. This can easily be read as a standalone. I can’t remember reading another mystery that takes place in Japan. I found it interesting to see the differences in our justice and policing systems, which play a pertinent role in the plot. Higashino also does a great job of giving us a great sense of Japanese culture.
A talented young girl goes missing and her remains are discovered 3 years later in a burned out house. Despite lots of circumstantial evidence pointing to one man, he is not prosecuted. A few months later, on the day of a large parade, he is found dead.
“Detective Galileo” is actually Professor Yukawa, a professor of physics. He consults with the Tokyo detectives on the case. While his ideas are a key part of the book, he’s not a major character. The book had a Sherlock Holmes feel to it. Yukawa is able to fathom the clues that the detectives don’t quite see or understand.
The book is the opposite of fast paced. It introduces so many characters they are listed at the front of the book. While I was curious to see how the mystery would be solved and who was behind the death, it was a little slow for my taste. And parts of how the crime took place were easy to figure out. Others were totally out of the blue. And just when you think you see how it all played out, a wild twist is thrown in.
This is not a character rich book. I never felt I got a true feel for the personalities behind the main characters. While it was a decent read, I doubt I will follow through with reading the prior books in the series.

I am a huge fan of the author ever since I read The Devotion of Suspect X way back in 2018. I was really impressed with the writing, the detective work, the characters and the murder mysteries in this series!
Detective Galileo aka Manabu Yukawa is not your traditional detective and you will know why when you read this book. And yes to nerds, the mystery solving involves Physics and basic scientific explanations you know! But you will understand all the explanations given. Apt for everyone (the casual as well as the avid mystery book lovers).

☑️murder mystery which is more like a psychological thriller read with a good closure
☑️myriad memorable characters
☑️short chapters which will make you fly through the book
☑️fast paced with unique plot
The story is about solving the mystery of disappearance of a beautiful young girl at the verge of getting famous as a singer whose skeletal remains get discovered three years later. And even then the police and the detectives are having a hard time to solve this mystery with all the obvious clues available. Also the suspect gets murdered. So who is behind all these murders?
☑️You don’t need to read the first three books in the series. Each book handles different murder mystery cases and can be read as a stand-alone in no particular order.

Another fantastic novel by Keigo Higashino. I think this is the fifth book to feature Detective Galileo but the first that I've read (I wasn't aware of this fact until after I'd finished it) and I will be ordering the other 4 as soon as possible.
I love Higashino's writing style. I love his characterisation and how ingenious the plot was (very Agatha Christie) and the final twist was *chefs kiss*

Here is another book I have read that I am now bringing my review to Goodreads.
First I must apologize. I came into reading this series at #4.
So, I am reading it as a stand-alone, unaware of the history of these characters that existed through books 1-3.
Second this book is translated into English.
The good news, (I have come to appreciate), is that there was no need to have read the others to enjoy this well-crafted captivating mystery with suspense and twists as well as showcasing a good police procedural.
Did I scare you there for a moment?
I wanted to share this, because sometimes translations, and books being read out of sequence (which I have a tendency to do), can be tricky.
On to the story...
Detective Galileo is Manabu Yukawa, a perceptive physics professor, who occasionally assists the Tokyo police department. There is a complex case the Detective Chief and Detective Sergeant would like his assistance.
There is an assumption of murder from a crime that has taken place approximately three years prior where a body was completely concealed and almost destroyed by fire.
Of course, it now has been found.
They have a primary suspect, but, he chooses not to confess to the crime.
And now to the parade - the title of the book.
Taking advantage of the distractions provided by the festivities, what should occur but...another crime!
Is the incident connected to the first crime? Lots will happen...no spoilers from me!
Just when it seems like all shall be solved, Detective Galileo uncovers another long-buried secret.
What shall this long-buried secret be? How will this tie up all the loose ends?
The book has its way of finding closure that is satisfying for readers.
There is a hint of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie amongst these pages.
If you are fans of both those authors (I am), I think you might enjoy this one.

Oh the joy of a new Keigo Higashino novel, and a Detective Galileo book at that! They are such little marvels, so fussy and intricate, and yet I find the experience of reading them the book equivalent of a mug of hot tea on a chilly day.
This is not quite as down-into-the-details fussy as SALVATION OF A SAINT but I think it's just behind it. It takes a while to get to the meat of the mystery, and even after we do we move between a pretty wide cast of characters. We have more than a hunch that several of them are involved in the crime we just don't know exactly how. Motive is never the question, only how was it done. This is quite an unusual one, maybe just a bit beyond total believability, but I appreciate a new and extensively-considered murder scenario that I never have to actually worry about in real life, and this fit the bill.
Perfectly paced, as always, with a new little twist waiting every time you think it's just about all figured out. It's nice to have Detective Galileo back, he is a Sherlock-esque guy except for how everyone likes him so much.
Keep translating the Higashino's please, I know there are more we haven't gotten yet and I will not be satisfied until I have read every single one.

January 3, 2022Well structured murder mystery with an amazing number of switchbacks (lol you think you've just worked it all out? Sucker.). Author is a genius of the garden path and leading readers there-up. Hugely enjoyable.

টোকিওর এক মফস্বলের একটা ট্র্যাশ হাউজ (অতিরিক্ত আবর্জনা জমানো ঘর) এ আগুন লাগে। দুর্ঘটনাস্থলে পাওয়া যায় সেই ট্র্যাশ হাউজের মালকিন, এলাকার এক খিটখিটে বুড়ি মহিলার লাশ। সেই মহিলার মৃত্যু স্বাভাবিক ছিল। আরো কিছুদিন আগেই মারা গিয়েছিল সে কিন্তু এলাকার অন্যান্যদের থেকে আলাদা হয়ে একাকী থাকতো বলে কেউ সেটা টের পাই নি। কিন্তু সেখানে পাওয়া যায় আরও তিন বছর পুরনো আরেকটা লাশ, মাথায় আঘাতের ফলে মৃত্যু হয়েছে যার।
ডিএনএ পরীক্ষায় জানা যায়– লাশটা হলো সাওরি নামিকি নামের এক কিশোরীর। টোকিওর এক শহরতলি কিকুনোতে থাকতো সে, যেই জায়গাটা সেই ট্র্যাশ হাউজ থেকে বহুদূরে অবস্থিত। সাওরির পরিবার তাদের এলাকায় বেশ জনপ্রিয় একটা ঘরোয়া পরিবেশের রেস্ট্রুরেন্ট 'নামিকি-ইয়া' চালায়। সেইসাথে সুন্দরী আর প্রতিভাবান গায়িকা হওয়াতে সে ছিল সবার চোখের মণি। মিউজিক কম্পোজার নাওকি নিইকুরা আর তার স্ত্রী রুমি বহুদিন ধরে সাওরির এই প্রতিভাকে কাজে লাগিয়ে মিউজিক জগতে নতুন চমক নিয়ে আসার কাজ করছিল। সবকিছু ঠিকই চলছিল, কিন্তু একদিন হুট করে উধাও হয়ে যায় সাওরি।
ডিটেকটিভ চিফ কুসানাগির ডাক পড়লো। প্রধান সন্দেহভাজন হিসেবে বেরিয়ে এলো কানিচি হাসুনুমার নাম। যে কিনা ২৩ বছর আগেকার ঠিক একইরকমের-ই একটা কেসের আসামী ছিল। সেই কেসেও এক কিশোরী উধাও হবার কয়েক বছর পর তার লাশ পাওয়া যায়। ১৯ বছর আগে নিখোঁজ কিশোরী ইউনা মোতোহাশির লাশ পাওয়া গিয়েছিল, যেটার তদন্ত সদ্য পুলিশে যোগ দেয়া কুসানাগিই করেছিল। তাতে হাসুনুমাকে বেশ শক্ত প্রমাণে ধরলেও সে ছিল নির্বিকার, পুলিশি জেরার পুরোটা সময় নিশ্চুপ থাকে। পরবর্তীতে আদালতে সেসব সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণ পর্যাপ্ত না হওয়ায় এবং স্বীকারোক্তি না থাকায় ছাড়া পেয়ে যায় সে।
ডিটেকটিভ কুসানাগি আর তার দল এবার জোরেশোরে নামে তদন্তে। কোনোভাবেই পার পেতে দেবে না এই ভয়ংকর অপরাধীকে। সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণও সব ইঙ্গিত দেয় হাসুনুমার বিরুদ্ধে, কিন্তু বরাবরের মতোই পুলিশের জেরার সময় মুখে কুলুপ এটে বসে থাকে এই ঠান্ডা মাথার খুনি। পরবর্তীতে কোর্ট থেকে আবারও ছাড়া পাই সে, অপরাধের পর তিন বছর সময় চলে যাওয়ায় নিরেট প্রমাণ নেই। আর হাসুনুমার মৌনব্রতের ব্যাপারটাও এতে বেশ ভূমিকা রাখে। ছাড়া পাবার পর সে কুকিনুতে থাকতে চলে আসে, মাঝে একদিন নামিকি-ইয়াতে গিয়ে সাওরির পরিবারের নামে মানহানীর মামলা করার হুমকি দেয়। কারণ তার মতে তারাই নাকি পুলিশকে ভুল তথ্য দিয়ে হাসুনুমাকে ফাঁসিয়েছে।
কুসানাগি এই কেসের ব্যাপারে হালকা সাহায্য চাই তার বন্ধু, ফিজিক্সের অধ্যাপক মানাবু ইউকাওয়ার কাছে, যে কিনা কুকিনোতেই কিছুদিনের জন্য একটা কাজে থাকছে। কিন্তু সব হিসাব বদলে যায়, যখন কুকিনো এলাকার জনপ্রিয় বার্ষিক কুচকাওয়াজ 'স্টোরি প্যারেড' চলবার সময় খুন হয় হাসুনুমা। তার মৃতদেহ পাওয়া যায় একটা ছোট ঘিঞ্জি কামরায়, যেখানে সে থাকছিল। শরীরে কোনো আঘাতের চিহ্ন নেই, পোস্টমর্টেম রিপোর্ট অনুসারে শ্বাসকষ্টজনিত কারণে মারা গেছে সে।

আমি সাধারণত টানা কোনো লেখকের বই পড়ি না। একারণে একজন লেখকের একাধিক বই পড়া প্রায়ই হয়ে ওঠে না। এর একমাত্র ব্যতিক্রম বোধহয় জাপানি লেখক কেইগো হিগাশিনো। গত প্রায় দেড়বছরে আমি ওনার যতগুলো বই পড়েছি, অন্যকোনো লেখকের ক্ষেত্রে তার অর্ধেকও পড়েছি কিনা সন্দেহ। হিগাশিনো বর্তমানে থ্রিলার জনরায় আমার সবচেয়ে পছন্দের লেখক। শুধুমাত্র রহস্য, টুইস্ট আর বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত গোয়েন্দাগিরির জন্য নয়, সেইসাথে তার গল্পে মানব আবেগের চমৎকার বহিঃপ্রকাশ আর ভিক্টিম ও অপরাধীর মানসিক টানাপোড়েনের উপস্থাপনার জন্যও। শুধু বই-ই না, আমি তার বই অবলম্বনে বানানো সিনেমাগুলোও দেখি।
লেখকের ডিটেকটিভ গ্যালিলিও সিরিজটা আমার বেশ পছন্দের। সিরিজের "দ্য ডিভোশন অব সাসপেক্ট এক্স" আমার অনেক প্রিয় একটা বই, এরআগে বহুবার বলেছি। "স্যালভেশন অব অ্যা সেইন্ট" ও আমার বেশ ভালো লেগেছিল। কিন্তু সিরিজের পরবর্তী বই "অ্যা মিডসামার'স ইকুয়েশন" এর রিভিউ একটু খারাপ দেখাতে আর সেটার অনুবাদ না থাকায় সরাসরি সেটার সিনেমাটা দেখি, সত্যি বলতে চমৎকার ছিল। এরপর থেকেই অপেক্ষায় ছিলাম, সালমান হকের অনুবাদে 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' বইটাও পড়বো, কিন্তু বহুদিন সেটার প্রকাশের কোনো খবর নেই বিধায় বইটা ইংরেজিতেই পড়ে ফেললাম।
সত্যি বলতে 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' এর গল্প গতানুগতিক হিগাশিনো টাইপেরই। গল্পের আনাচে কানাচে চরিত্রগুলোর আচরণ-সংলাপ, ডিটেকটিভ কুসানাগি আর তার টিমের তদন্ত, ফিজিক্স প্রফেসর মানাবু ইউকাওয়ার থিওরির সাহায্যে কেস সলভ করে যাওয়া, আপাত দৃষ্টিতে অপরাধী ধরা পড়ে রহস্যের সমাধান হয়েছে মনে হলেও এমন টুইস্ট আসে যে এতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত গল্প যে আঙ্গিকে এগিয়েছে সব ভুল মনে হবে, অপরাধীর আবেগ আর মানসিক টানাপোড়েন, শেষ পর্যন্ত অপরাধের ফলে সৃষ্ট বইয়ের চরিত্রগুলোর জীবনের তীব্র অনুভূতি আর তাতে মূল গোয়েন্দার সহানুভূতি প্রদান সবই হিগাশিনোর অন্যান্য বইগুলোর কথা মনে করিয়ে দেবে। আর লেখকের ভক্ত হওয়ায় বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না যে এগুলো অনেক উপভোগ করেছি।
সবকিছু দিয়ে লেখক বেশ দক্ষ হাতে গল্প বুনেছেন। একদম শুরু থেকে প্রতিটা দৃশ্যের মাধ্যমে কাহিনী, চরিত্র, রহস্য আর সেটার ফোরশ্যাডোয়িং, ঘটনাপ্রবাহ সবকিছুই ভালোভাবে ডেভেলপ করা হয়েছে। চরিত্র চিত্রণও বরাবরের মতোই ভালো। ডিটেকটিভ গ্যালিলিও সিরিজের আগের বইগুলোর তুলনায় 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড'এর চরিত্র সংখ্যা অনেক বেশী হলেও, তাদের চরিত্রায়ন খুব সুন্দর হয়েছে। লেখক দারুণভাবে চরিত্রগুলোর মাধ্যমে জাপানিদের কাছের মানুষদের জন্য ভালোবাসা, অ্যাফেকশন আর অপরাধের প্রভাবে সৃষ্ট মানসিক জ্বালাকে সাবলীলভাবে ফুটিয়ে তুলেছেন। বিশেষ করে রহস্য সমাধানের পর প্রত্যেকটা চরিত্রের অনুভূতি যেভাবে ফুটে উঠেছিল, তা ছিল হৃদয়স্পর্শী।
এরমধ্যে গোয়েন্দা মানাবু ইউকাওয়া বা ডিটেকটিভ গ্যালিলিও বরাবরের মতোই দারুণ। এই বইয়ে তার উপস্থিতি প্রধান চরিত্র বিবেচনায় অল্প হলেও চরিত্রটা প্রতিটি দৃশ্যে তার বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত আর যুক্তিবাদী চিন্তাভাবনা দিয়ে তাক লাগিয়ে দিয়েছে। আর 'দ্য ডিভোশন অব সাসপেক্ট এক্স' পর থেকে তার ডেভেলপমেন্টও অনেক ভালো হয়েছে। যেখানে আগে শুধুমাত্র বিজ্ঞানের জটিল কোনো পদ্ধতিতে অপরাধ সম্পাদন করা হলে সে কেসে আগ্রহী হতো, অপরাধের মোটিভ, অপরাধীর চিন্তাচেতনা নিয়ে অতটা মাথা ঘামাতো না। 'সাসপেক্ট এক্স' এর ঘটনার পর থেকে প্রতিটা বইয়েই অপরাধ পদ্ধতির তদন্ত করলেও তাকে অপরাধীর মোটিভেশান কত গভীরে জড়িয়ে আছে তা নিয়েও ভাবতে দেখা যায়। সেইসাথে 'অ্যা মিডসামার'স ইকুয়েশন' আর এই বইয়ে অন্য চরিত্রদের প্রতি তাকে সহমর্মী হতেও দেখা যায়, অনেকটা হিগাশিনোর আরেক গোয়েন্দা চরিত্র ডিটেকটিভ কাগার মতো করে।
হিগাশিনোর সিগনেচার স্টাইলের টুইস্ট এই বইয়েও আছে। মূল টুইস্টটা চমকানোর পাশাপাশি ভাবতেও বাধ্য করবে। আসলে আজকালকার মিস্ট্রি থ্রিলার বইয়ে রহস্য আর সেটার সমাধান বড়ই একমাত্রিক হয়ে পড়ে। সেগুলোর কয়েকটা পড়লেই কি ধরণের টুইস্ট কোন কোন দিক থেকে আসতে পারে তা আন্দাজ করা যায়। সেইসাথে সম্পূর্ণ বইজুড়ে রহস্য আর তদন্তকার্য একটা নির্দিষ্ট কাঠামোয় আবদ্ধ থাকে । একটা অপরাধ হওয়ার কারণ যে কত গভীরে যেতে পারে আর সেটার আফটারম্যাথও যে হতে পারে কতটা বিস্তৃত, তা শুধুমাত্র হিগাশিনোর বইগুলো পড়লেই বোঝা যায়। পুরোটা বই জুড়ে যেরকম একটা ধারণাকে কেন্দ্র করেই কাহিনী এগিয়েছে, তাতে টুইস্টটা আসার পরে বিস্মিত হবার পাশাপাশি কিছুটা হতাশ অনুভব করাটাও অস্বাভাবিক নয়।
কিন্তু বলতেই হচ্ছে বইটার ব্যপ্তি একটু বেশী বড় হয়ে গিয়েছে। যদিও হিগাশিনো অপ্রয়োজনীয় কোনো দৃশ্য কাহিনীতে রাখেন না, তবে বইটার ফার্স্ট হাফ, যেটা খুবই প্রেডিক্টেবল ওয়েতে এগিয়েছে, অতিরিক্ত ডেভেলপমেন্টের জন্য বেশ বোরিং হয়ে গিয়েছিল। সেকেন্ড হাফ থেকেই গল্পের রিভিলেশনগুলা একটু একটু আসতে থাকে। গল্পের খাতিরেই পুলিশের তদন্তগুলো একটু ধীরগতিতে এগোচ্ছিল, সেকারণে বইটা একটু বোরিং লাগতে পারে। আর একটা কথা, এতোদিন ধরে বইয়ের সিংহভাগ অংশে মূল অপরাধ আর সেটার কারণকে যে আঙ্গিকে চিন্তা করে পড়ে গিয়েছিলাম, শেষ পর্যন্ত অন্যরকম সমাধান প্রদান করা টুইস্ট দেখে কিছুটা হতাশও লেগেছে বলা যায়। এমনকি বইয়ের চরিত্র ডিটেকটিভ কুসানাগির সংলাপেও এই অনুভূতিটা এসেছে-
সবমিলিয়ে 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' বইটা পড়ে ভালো লেগেছে, হিগাশিনোর অন্যান্য বইগুলোর মতোই। আগে ইংরেজিতে এতো বড় বই কখনো পড়ি নি। তবে হিগাশিনোর সহজ সাবলীল এবং সংলাপনির্ভর লেখা আর সেই অনুযায়ী জাপান থেকে ইংরেজিতে হওয়া অনুবাদের কল্যাণে পড়ার সময় তেমন একটা অসুবিধা হয় নি। ইংরেজি অনুবাদে অনুবাদক সহজ আর পরিচিত শব্দ চয়ন করেছেন বেশী, তাতে জটিল বাক্যের আধিক্যও নেই। তাই সবমিলিয়ে বলা যায়, কেইগো হিগাশিনোর 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' একটু স্লো হলেও উপভোগ্য পাঠ ছিল।

সত্যি বলতে 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' এর গল্প গতানুগতিক হিগাশিনো টাইপেরই। গল্পের আনাচে কানাচে চরিত্রগুলোর আচরণ-সংলাপ, ডিটেকটিভ কুসানাগি আর তার টিমের তদন্ত, ফিজিক্স প্রফেসর মানাবু ইউকাওয়ার থিওরির সাহায্যে কেস সলভ করে যাওয়া, আপাত দৃষ্টিতে অপরাধী ধরা পড়ে রহস্যের সমাধান হয়েছে মনে হলেও এমন টুইস্ট আসে যে এতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত গল্প যে আঙ্গিকে এগিয়েছে সব ভুল মনে হবে, অপরাধীর আবেগ আর মানসিক টানাপোড়েন, শেষ পর্যন্ত অপরাধের ফলে সৃষ্ট বইয়ের চরিত্রগুলোর জীবনের তীব্র অনুভূতি আর তাতে মূল গোয়েন্দার সহানুভূতি প্রদান সবই হিগাশিনোর অন্যান্য বইগুলোর কথা মনে করিয়ে দেবে। আর লেখকের ভক্ত হওয়ায় বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না যে এগুলো অনেক উপভোগ করেছি।
সবকিছু দিয়ে লেখক বেশ দক্ষ হাতে গল্প বুনেছেন। একদম শুরু থেকে প্রতিটা দৃশ্যের মাধ্যমে কাহিনী, চরিত্র, রহস্য আর সেটার ফোরশ্যাডোয়িং, ঘটনাপ্রবাহ সবকিছুই ভালোভাবে ডেভেলপ করা হয়েছে। চরিত্র চিত্রণও বরাবরের মতোই ভালো। ডিটেকটিভ গ্যালিলিও সিরিজের আগের বইগুলোর তুলনায় 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড'এর চরিত্র সংখ্যা অনেক বেশী হলেও, তাদের চরিত্রায়ন খুব সুন্দর হয়েছে। লেখক দারুণভাবে চরিত্রগুলোর মাধ্যমে জাপানিদের কাছের মানুষদের জন্য ভালোবাসা, অ্যাফেকশন আর অপরাধের প্রভাবে সৃষ্ট মানসিক জ্বালাকে সাবলীলভাবে ফুটিয়ে তুলেছেন। বিশেষ করে রহস্য সমাধানের পর প্রত্যেকটা চরিত্রের অনুভূতি যেভাবে ফুটে উঠেছিল, তা ছিল হৃদয়স্পর্শী।
এরমধ্যে গোয়েন্দা মানাবু ইউকাওয়া বা ডিটেকটিভ গ্যালিলিও বরাবরের মতোই দারুণ। এই বইয়ে তার উপস্থিতি প্রধান চরিত্র বিবেচনায় অল্প হলেও চরিত্রটা প্রতিটি দৃশ্যে তার বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত আর যুক্তিবাদী চিন্তাভাবনা দিয়ে তাক লাগিয়ে দিয়েছে। আর 'দ্য ডিভোশন অব সাসপেক্ট এক্স' পর থেকে তার ডেভেলপমেন্টও অনেক ভালো হয়েছে। যেখানে আগে শুধুমাত্র বিজ্ঞানের জটিল কোনো পদ্ধতিতে অপরাধ সম্পাদন করা হলে সে কেসে আগ্রহী হতো, অপরাধের মোটিভ, অপরাধীর চিন্তাচেতনা নিয়ে অতটা মাথা ঘামাতো না। 'সাসপেক্ট এক্স' এর ঘটনার পর থেকে প্রতিটা বইয়েই অপরাধ পদ্ধতির তদন্ত করলেও তাকে অপরাধীর মোটিভেশান কত গভীরে জড়িয়ে আছে তা নিয়েও ভাবতে দেখা যায়। সেইসাথে 'অ্যা মিডসামার'স ইকুয়েশন' আর এই বইয়ে অন্য চরিত্রদের প্রতি তাকে সহমর্মী হতেও দেখা যায়, অনেকটা হিগাশিনোর আরেক গোয়েন্দা চরিত্র ডিটেকটিভ কাগার মতো করে।
হিগাশিনোর সিগনেচার স্টাইলের টুইস্ট এই বইয়েও আছে। মূল টুইস্টটা চমকানোর পাশাপাশি ভাবতেও বাধ্য করবে। আসলে আজকালকার মিস্ট্রি থ্রিলার বইয়ে রহস্য আর সেটার সমাধান বড়ই একমাত্রিক হয়ে পড়ে। সেগুলোর কয়েকটা পড়লেই কি ধরণের টুইস্ট কোন কোন দিক থেকে আসতে পারে তা আন্দাজ করা যায়। সেইসাথে সম্পূর্ণ বইজুড়ে রহস্য আর তদন্তকার্য একটা নির্দিষ্ট কাঠামোয় আবদ্ধ থাকে । একটা অপরাধ হওয়ার কারণ যে কত গভীরে যেতে পারে আর সেটার আফটারম্যাথও যে হতে পারে কতটা বিস্তৃত, তা শুধুমাত্র হিগাশিনোর বইগুলো পড়লেই বোঝা যায়। পুরোটা বই জুড়ে যেরকম একটা ধারণাকে কেন্দ্র করেই কাহিনী এগিয়েছে, তাতে টুইস্টটা আসার পরে বিস্মিত হবার পাশাপাশি কিছুটা হতাশ অনুভব করাটাও অস্বাভাবিক নয়।
কিন্তু বলতেই হচ্ছে বইটার ব্যপ্তি একটু বেশী বড় হয়ে গিয়েছে। যদিও হিগাশিনো অপ্রয়োজনীয় কোনো দৃশ্য কাহিনীতে রাখেন না, তবে বইটার ফার্স্ট হাফ, যেটা খুবই প্রেডিক্টেবল ওয়েতে এগিয়েছে, অতিরিক্ত ডেভেলপমেন্টের জন্য বেশ বোরিং হয়ে গিয়েছিল। সেকেন্ড হাফ থেকেই গল্পের রিভিলেশনগুলা একটু একটু আসতে থাকে। গল্পের খাতিরেই পুলিশের তদন্তগুলো একটু ধীরগতিতে এগোচ্ছিল, সেকারণে বইটা একটু বোরিং লাগতে পারে। আর একটা কথা, এতোদিন ধরে বইয়ের সিংহভাগ অংশে মূল অপরাধ আর সেটার কারণকে যে আঙ্গিকে চিন্তা করে পড়ে গিয়েছিলাম, শেষ পর্যন্ত অন্যরকম সমাধান প্রদান করা টুইস্ট দেখে কিছুটা হতাশও লেগেছে বলা যায়। এমনকি বইয়ের চরিত্র ডিটেকটিভ কুসানাগির সংলাপেও এই অনুভূতিটা এসেছে-
“What a disaster!” said Kusanagi, raising his glass. “We all started wondering ourselves what the hell we’d been doing these last few months. That’s why I said I was halfway between celebrating and drowning my sorrows."
সবমিলিয়ে 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' বইটা পড়ে ভালো লেগেছে, হিগাশিনোর অন্যান্য বইগুলোর মতোই। আগে ইংরেজিতে এতো বড় বই কখনো পড়ি নি। তবে হিগাশিনোর সহজ সাবলীল এবং সংলাপনির্ভর লেখা আর সেই অনুযায়ী জাপান থেকে ইংরেজিতে হওয়া অনুবাদের কল্যাণে পড়ার সময় তেমন একটা অসুবিধা হয় নি। ইংরেজি অনুবাদে অনুবাদক সহজ আর পরিচিত শব্দ চয়ন করেছেন বেশী, তাতে জটিল বাক্যের আধিক্যও নেই। তাই সবমিলিয়ে বলা যায়, কেইগো হিগাশিনোর 'সাইলেন্ট প্যারেড' একটু স্লো হলেও উপভোগ্য পাঠ ছিল।

ชอบทุกครั้งที่ได้อ่านหนังสือยาวๆ สามสี่ร้อยหน้าขึ้นไปของ Higashino Keigo เพราะมันทำให้รู้จักบุคลิกนิสัยของตัวละคร รวมไปถึง hidden agenda ที่แอบซ่อนเอาไว้อย่างครบถ้วน
เมื่อกฎหมายปกติมีช่องโหว่เอาผิดฆาตกรไม่ได้ ญาติพี่น้องที่รักไคร่ชอบพอกับเหยื่อย่อมสั่งสมความแค้น และนั่นเป็นสิ่งที่มนุษย์ปุถุชนคนธรรมดาเข้าใจได้
เนื้อเรื่องเปิดขึ้นด้วยการลอยนวลของผู้ต้องสงสัยว่าเป็นฆาตกร ที่ก่อเหตุฆาตกรรม แต่กระบวนการยุติธรรมไม่สามารถเอาผิดได้
เวลาดำเนินเดินผ่านไปหลายสิบปี จึงเกิดคดีที่สอง และคดีที่สองก็มีแนวโน้มจะเอาผิดไม่ได้เช่นกัน
นายตำรวจในคดีแรกอย่าง "คุซานางิ" ที่เจ็บปวดค้างคา จากการที่ไม่สมารถเอาผิดฆาตกรในคดีแรกได้ จึงหวังจะล้างตา เอาผิดในคดีที่สองให้ได้อย่างที่สุด แน่นอนว่าคดีมันมีอุปสรรคในการหาความจริง

มันสนุกมากตรงที่ Keigo บีบคั้นอารมณ์คนอ่าน
ให้มีอารมณ์โกรธแค้นร่วมไปกับพ่อแม่ของเหยื่อ ที่ฆาตกรที่ฆ่าลูกตัวเองยังลอยหน้าลอยตา

รวมไปถึงเปิดเผย hidden agenda ของคนที่ดู innocent ตามสไตล์ Keigo
นอกจากนี้ ยังคลายปมข้อเท็ตจริงที่ตกค้างจากคดีเมื่อหลายสิบปีก่อนใด้อย่างน่าทึ่ง
Keigo ยังคงใช้หนังสือชี้ให้เห็นประเด็นทางสังคมอย่างชัดเจน และส่งสารถึงผู้อ่านของเค้าโดยตรง
อย่างในเล่มนี้ เห็นเลยว่าปัญหาคือ กระบวนการยุติธรรม แต่แน่นอน Keigo ยังเล่ายังบอกให้เห็นทางออก ว่ายังมีช่องทางในการต่อสู้ตามกระบวนการอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม โดยไม่ใช้ศาลเตี้ยตัดสินซึ่งจะเป็นการก่ออาชญากรรมซ้อนเข้าไปอีก

قتل در قطار سریع السیر شرق به قلم هیگاشینو!
این کتاب با همه نقاط قوت و البته شباهت عامدانه اش با منبع ادبی بی نظیرش ، یادآور این نکته است که حتی بهترین جنایی نویس حال حاضر هم جلوی آگاتا کریستی دستانش به نشانه تسلیم بالاست.به نظرم اگر در پایان از نسخه اصلی دور نمیشد شاید امتیاز بالاتری میگرفت با این حال همین هم یک سر و گردن از نمونه های پر زرق و برق ولی تو خالی حال حاضر مثل "لیست مهمانان" اثر لوسی فولی بالاتر است.
این کتاب با همه نقاط قوت و البته شباهت عامدانه اش با منبع ادبی بی نظیرش ، یادآور این نکته است که حتی بهترین جنایی نویس حال حاضر هم جلوی آگاتا کریستی دستانش به نشانه تسلیم بالاست.به نظرم اگر در پایان از نسخه اصلی دور نمیشد شاید امتیاز بالاتری میگرفت با این حال همین هم یک سر و گردن از نمونه های پر زرق و برق ولی تو خالی حال حاضر مثل "لیست مهمانان" اثر لوسی فولی بالاتر است.

Keigo Higashino is probably the most ambitious living mystery writer (that I read) regarding plots. And this is certainly one of his most ambitious plots, to the point of being too much almost, too much data and numbers (small rant: why translate measurements to feet and then put out volume, logically, in liters? I much preferred Alexander O. Smith's translation and sticking to metric throughout..Are average american readers really so unused to meters but used to liters?) and twists. The story loses some momentum towards the middle when a lot of attention is paid to the mechanics of whatever really happened and how it could have been done. And the ultimate pay-off, the twist, felt somehow more remote than usual for him - though I did like very much the ending, the conversation between those who loved the victim and the contextualization of why Galileo chose to investigate this case.
This felt very Japanese, maybe even more than his other books, like there are important themes, concepts here which would make much more sense, be more meaningful to his native readership - judicial process in Japan, compensations, how in a society that values conformity and adaptability to deal with psychopaths who will ignore the social demands. And oh yeah music idol industry (implied, I think?).
It is also very meta, full of references to other books, including the first book of this series The Devotion of Suspect X, and explicitly The Judas Window and, right when I was thinking about it, Murder on the Orient Express, very clearly just the author letting us know that yes, he is also aware of that possible plot twist... But just like with the plot, it is maybe too meta, maybe too geekily into the locked room mystery part, or into referencing Suspect X. The series is feeling a little bit tired here, and I have only read the english translated books. I still want to read Invisible Helix but I better give it some time between books. And it seems he has started another new series that is getting translated into languages I can read and that is good news for me. He really is ambitious, like no other, with his mystery plots!

อาจารย์ฮิงาชิโนะรวม signature ของแกไว้ครบถ้วนในเล่มนี้ ทั้งความซับซ้อนของคดี วิธีฆาตกรรมที่คาดไม่ถึง ความรัก ความเกลียดชัง ความขัดแย้งในใจมนุษย์ รวมถึงความฉลาดสุดๆของอาจารย์ยุกาว่า
สำหรับคนติดตามซีรี่ย์กาลิเลโอ เล่มนี้อาจารย์ยุกาว่ามีการเปลี่ยนแปลงตัวเองใหม่ ถือว่าเป็นการเติบโตของตัวละครสินะ อาจารย์มีความเห็นอกเห็นใจคนอื่นมากขึ้น ให้น้ำหนักกับความรู้สึกมนุษย์พร้อมกับความเป็นเหตุเป็นผลทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ลดความแห้งแล้งในหัวใจลงไป
ส่วนเรื่องราวเล่มนี้ช่างซับซ้อน กลซ่อนกล หลอกซ่อนหลอก คนร้ายคดีฆาตกรรมหลุดพ้นการต้องโทษซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าเพราะรู้ถึงจุดอ่อนกระบวนการยุติธรรม จิตใจญาติผู้เสียหายจะโกรธแค้นซักเพียงไหนที่เห็นคนร้ายลอยนวลและกลับมาเยาะเย้ยเหมือนไม่มีอะไรเกิดขึ้น ความแค้นมหาศาลนำไปสู่แผนการลงทัณฑ์ มีผู้เข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องมากมาย แต่ความจริงที่ซ่อนอยู่กลับน่าตกตะลึงยิ่งกว่า แท้จริงแล้วความรัก ความคาดหวังที่ล้นเกินก็นำไปสู่การฆ่าคนได้เช่นกัน
สุดท้ายแล้ว ต่างคนต่างเยียวยาตัวเองกันเช่นไร ไปอ่านดู

ส่วนเรื่องราวเล่มนี้ช่างซับซ้อน กลซ่อนกล หลอกซ่อนหลอก คนร้ายคดีฆาตกรรมหลุดพ้นการต้องโทษซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าเพราะรู้ถึงจุดอ่อนกระบวนการยุติธรรม จิตใจญาติผู้เสียหายจะโกรธแค้นซักเพียงไหนที่เห็นคนร้ายลอยนวลและกลับมาเยาะเย้ยเหมือนไม่มีอะไรเกิดขึ้น ความแค้นมหาศาลนำไปสู่แผนการลงทัณฑ์ มีผู้เข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องมากมาย แต่ความจริงที่ซ่อนอยู่กลับน่าตกตะลึงยิ่งกว่า แท้จริงแล้วความรัก ความคาดหวังที่ล้นเกินก็นำไปสู่การฆ่าคนได้เช่นกัน
สุดท้ายแล้ว ต่างคนต่างเยียวยาตัวเองกันเช่นไร ไปอ่านดู

حقیقتا زیاد دوستش نداشتم انتظار بالا تری داشتم نمی دونم شاید به دلیل مقایسه ای بود که بین این کتاب و کتاب قتل در قطار سیر السیر شرق آگاتا کریستی شده بود من این کتاب رو دوست نداشتم چون اصلا در اون حد نبود
قبول دارم که غیر قابل پیش بینی بود و حتی خیلی جاها دهنم از تعجب باز موند اما من نه شروع و نه پایان رو دوست نداشتم .
با شخصیت ها خیلی خوب ارتباط نگرفتم و نتونستم اون جور که باید ازش لذت ببرم
در کل تجربه جالبی بود دست کم برای یه بار خواندن فکر نمیکنم دیگه از این نویسنده کتابی بخونم ولی باز هم قابل پیش بینی نیست

کتاب به کتاب معمولی تر شد.
تو این کتاب با ۳ تا قتل سعی کرد ماجرا رو خیلی پیچیده بکنه اما جذابیتی نداشت، نه پرونده نه شیوه حل شدنش.

فقط کافیه اسمشو روی جلد کتابی ببینم تا بدون تردید برم سراغش و مطمئن باشم که نااُمید نمیشم.
دقیقا تمام توقعاتی که از یک کتاب جنایی-معمایی دارم رو برآورده میکنه. تمام اتفاقات در منطقیترین و اصولیترین شیوه ممکن پیش میره.
دوست داشتم با کاراگاه گالیله دوست صمیمی بودم و ساعتها به حرفهاش گوش میدادم. جزو محبوبترین کرکترهاست برام.

I always get excited when a new Detective Galileo book comes out in English. This is definitely not a favorite but I love the way it was structured, although a bit longer than I think it needed to be.

This one was ok. I enjoyed the Suspect X one more.
It's long, and there were parts of this that became redundant and dragged. The parade day itself was interesting and I liked many of the diner placed scenes and conversations. Yet, and this a big yet- the crux of the motive? And the stated and actual lengths of time that crimes can be prosecuted (Statute of Limitations) in Japan was, to me, shocking. For very serious crimes like moving or manipulation of a body- only 3 years?
There are only so many times you can praise and describe the singing talents of a dead potential young star. And who/ how that potential never being realized or taken for profits either. Would that be intrinsic before the success occurring at all? Or be so life path situation changing? (Not just for her but for others?) Regardless, even with the very Japanese cultural onus for success or children's choices for career or whatever path toward the traditional "best"? I didn't get this as a real fit for all that here in urban Japan. It seems much more Chinese dragon parent or Western civ. country familial must do ambitions for taking over the business or profession.
Also the manner for one of the demise/ death scenes in process and aftermath ending? Way, way harder to do than portrayed here for that last departure. But it was SO Japanese in how easy/often the confession seems to arise. Almost spontaneously with any provable guilt evidence.
This is much more a character study than a who-dun-it, IMHO. Not just for 2 or 3 either- more like 6 characters in depth. That's worthy of some time. Yes. But Detective Galileo comes in here way down the line of copy and I think overall- it's just not a length or pull for my most liked novels in this genre. Pacing is barely a 3 star, more towards a 2.
It was sad too. I'd like to visit that place (family diner/restaurant) as a "regular" and get the fried oysters though.

Probably somewhere between a 4 and 4.5 stars - it's not quite topped Salvation of a Saint as my favourite in the series, but it's pretty close! Definitely on par with Devotion of Suspect X for me.
This has become my all time favourite mystery series - I really love our main trio and their dynamic, and Higashino's ability to make you think you know what's going on and then throw you in for a loop at the end is truly unmatched. Silent Parade is as much of a page turner as the previous books in the series, and I loved every minute of this.
What I really loved about this story in particular are the interconnected cases - we have a case from Kusanagi's past that ended in the culprit getting away with his crime because of the flawed justice system, a similar case in the slightly more recent past seemingly linked to this same killer, and then finally the murder of this suspect in the present day. I can see some people finding this a bit convoluted, but I personally really enjoyed this setup and seeing the links between the cases!
One thing I will say is that the further on in the series we get, the more obvious it is that the English translations are skipping books in the series. There are callbacks and character/relationship developments that are implied, but that I have no context for. I can only assume they took place in the books that weren't translated. If the publisher is reading this, please, I beg, give us translations of all the books in this series 😭
If you're a fan of crime procedurals and murder mysteries, I cannot recommend this series enough!

What a unique story! It was a wrench to put it down each time I was called to another task. I don't usually finish a book in one day but in this case I was driven to finish it to its amazing conclusion!

An accident, a perfect crime, or just revenge?
“Silent Parade” is part of the Detective Galileo Series, but many significant things unfold before readers actually meet him. A man was charged with murder. He was guilty, plain, and simple, and yet he insisted he did not do it. Without a confession and without hard evidence, the police had no choice but to release him. Some time later, he dies during an annual parade. Surely this death is not just a coincidence. The obvious suspects, the family of the murder victim, all have ironclad alibis; the Investigation hits a brick wall. It requires the skills of Professor Manabu Yukawa, better known as Detective Galileo, professor of physics and unofficial consultant to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He unravels impossible crimes and is called upon when a case is problematic, and that certainly describes this case perfectly. Like assembling a jigsaw puzzle, one after another, he slotted the pieces into place, and they all fit perfectly. I received a review copy of “Silent Parade” from Keigo Higashino, Minotaur Books, and Macmillan Publishing. For those not familiar with the series, a handy reference of the characters and their jobs is included. Every book in the series is compelling and surprising. Detective Galileo always looks at things from a different point of view.

Vụ án không có gì đặc biệt mặc dù những nhân vật liên quan gián tiếp lẫn trực tiếp khá đông đảo. Một vụ án mà Higashino tốn khá nhiều giấy mực nhưng tình tiết giản đơn, nhà vật lý tài ba Yukawa vẫn đóng vai trò chủ chốt với một đội ngũ điều tra như bức bình phong phía sau. Cô thiếu nữ Saori xinh đẹp tưởng mất tích nhưng đã bị sát hại từ 3 năm trước, ngay sau cuộc diễu hành hoá trang truyền thống ở thị trấn Kikuno. Nghi phạm Hasunuma là nhân vật xuyên suốt và được bám sát nhất câu truyện, những tình tiết liên quan đến gã bị lật tới lật lui và nhào nặn đủ kiểu, đôi khi nhiều quá nên trải nghiệm đọc khá nhàm chán. Vẫn là những phán đoán dẫn đến án chồng trong án và Higashino luôn để những bất ngờ vào chương cuối, kiểu như tạo cảm giác đuổi hình bắt bóng cho người đọc vậy. Nhưng ở cuốn sách này, cách giải quyết ấy diễn ra khá chậm chạp nên tâm trạng đọc đã bị dửng dưng ít nhiều.
Vẫn khen cho óc phán đoán của Yukawa nhưng cũng không quá thỏa mãn với logic của truyện. Cảm tưởng như mọi sự việc bị đẩy quá lên còn tâm lý nhân vật lại quá nghèo nàn, vậy nên cả truyện ít có đoạn cao trào - thứ lôi cuốn và gây tò mò nhất cho thể loại trinh thám. Thậm chí ngay cả khi biết hung thủ hay động cơ thực sự, ta vẫn cảm thấy hoang mang và lãng xẹt. Suy cho cùng, trong đời sống thực cũng vậy, có những cái chết vô cùng ngớ ngẩn cho cả nạn nhân lẫn hung thủ, có lẽ vậy mà Higashino mới lấy làm chất liệu cho tác phẩm này chăng?

ศ.ยุกาว่ากลับจากอเมริกาแล้ว ได้มาทำการวิจัยที่เมืองแห่งนึงชานเมืองโตเกียว ที่เมืองนี้โด่งดังเรื่องงานพาเหรดคอสเพลย์ที่ยิ่งใหญ่อลังการ
ในวันงานพาเหรด ยุกาว่าไปชมขบวนแห่และสนุกสนานไปกับบรรดาตัวละครหลากสีสัน แต่นั่นก็ทำให้เขาเข้าไปพัวพันกับคดีฆาตกรรมที่โยงใยหลายชั้นหลายตอนของครอบครัวร้านอาหารแห่งหนึ่ง
พล็อตใน "พาเหรดแห่งความเงียบงัน" แสดงให้เห็นถึงปัญหาของการดำเนินคดีในชั้นศาล ว่าหากอาชญากรไม่ถูกพิพากษาให้ได้รับโทษที่ก่อ จะสร้างผลสะท้อนต่อครอบครัว ญาติ และเพื่อนของผู้เสียชีวิตได้อย่างไรบ้าง
เราชอบตรงที่.... เหมือนเรื่องมันควรจะจบได้ที่ประมาณ 60% ของเล่มแล้ว
แต่เรื่องก็ถูกตลบหลังครั้งที่ 1 ครั้งที่ 2 แล้วยังมีครั้งที่ 3 อีก!
ต้องขอชมว่า เล่มนี้ถึงจะมีตัวละครมาก แต่ตัวละครทั้งหมดมีคาแรคเตอร์ชัดเจน ไม่มีทางจำคนสับสนกันแน่นอน
อ่านเพลินๆ และออกจะเห็นใจผู้เกี่ยวข้องกับคดีทั้งหมดเลยค่ะ
หลังจากอ่านซีรีส์คางะติดๆ กัน พอกลับมาอ่านซีรีส์กาลิเลโอก็จะพบว่า รสชาติของสองซีรีส์นี้ต่างกันมากมาย
ขณะที่ซีรีส์คางะเน้นความฉูดฉาด อาศัยตัวละครไม่มาก แต่ซีรีส์กาลิเลโอกลับเน้นตรงความซับซ้อนของรูปคดี และใช้ตัวละครจำนวนมาก
แต่จุดหนึ่งก็คือ เวลาอ่านซีรีส์กาลิเลโอ ถึงเนื้อหาจะชวนให้หนักใจ แต่ก็อ่านได้สบายๆ แบบไม่ต้องใช้ความพยายาม เพราะในเล่มเต็มไปด้วยตัวละครที่เราคุ้นเคย ทั้งศ.ยุกาว่า คุซานางิ คาโอรุ หรือกระทั่งหัวหน้าอย่างมามิยะ รู้สึกเหมือนได้พบเพื่อนเก่า และเราคาดเดาได้ว่า อ่านๆ ไปจะเจอรสชาติประมาณไหน
เล่มนี้เป็นนิยาย ก็เลยได้อ่านกันเต็มอิ่มกับเรื่องยาวทั้งเล่ม เวลาในเล่มบอกว่า ยุกาว่ากลับมาญี่ปุ่นหลังจากไปอยู่อเมริกามา 4 ปีและได้เลื่อนขั้นเป็นศาสตราจารย์แล้ว คำพูดคำจาและการวางตัวหลายอย่างในเรื่องจึงดูสุขุมขึ้น ตัวละครอย่างอุตสึมิหรือคุซานางิก็ดูจะโตเป็นผู้ใหญ่มากขึ้นด้วย

เล่มนี้เป็นนิยาย ก็เลยได้อ่านกันเต็มอิ่มกับเรื่องยาวทั้งเล่ม เวลาในเล่มบอกว่า ยุกาว่ากลับมาญี่ปุ่นหลังจากไปอยู่อเมริกามา 4 ปีและได้เลื่อนขั้นเป็นศาสตราจารย์แล้ว คำพูดคำจาและการวางตัวหลายอย่างในเรื่องจึงดูสุขุมขึ้น ตัวละครอย่างอุตสึมิหรือคุซานางิก็ดูจะโตเป็นผู้ใหญ่มากขึ้นด้วย

یکی از برنامههای مطالعاتی سال ۲۰۲۴ من خوندن گزینشی رمانهای جنایی بود. «رژهی خاموش» پنجمین اثری بود که هیگاشینو خوندم. و چهارمین اثری که از مجموعهی موفق «کارگاهگالیله» (فیزیکدان یوکاوا) خوندم. هیگاشینو واقعاً جذاب و روان مینویسه.
تو هر رمان جنایی که کارگاه مشخصی داره، اون کارگاه فلسفهی عدالت خودش رو داره. و به اجرای قانون از دریچهی همون فهمی از عدالت داره، نگاه میکنه. بهمرور و با این خوندنها فهمیدم که فهم من از عدالت گاهی چندان با فهم یوکاوا سازگار نیست. درکی که اون عدالت داره گاهی بهنظرم ماشینوار، مصنوع و ابتره. و این بعضاً ممکنه آزاردهنده باشه ولی خب از لذت خوندن رمانهای مجموعهی «کارگاهگالیله» چیزی کم نمیکنه.
هیگاشینو به آگاتا کریستی و پوآرو ارادت داره و چندجا از این رمان سعی کرد بهش کردیت بده. اما یهجایی یکی از شخصیتها به یوکاوا میگه شما هرکول پوآروی امروزی هستی. و یوکاوا در جواب بهدرستی میگه در حدش نیستم. این تشبیه واقعاً بیجا بود و اجحافی بود در حق پوآرو. پوآرو و یوکاوا اساساً جهانبینی و روش متفاوتی دارن. من با فلسفهی عدالت پوآرو بهغایت همدلترم. درکش از عدالت واقعگرا، انسانی و درعینحال با شفقته. و از طرف دیگه، پوآرو رسماً کارگاهه. کار و تخصصش این بود. یوکاوا اما یه استاد دانشگاهه که صرفاً گاهی برای کمک به دوست پلیسش و یا از روی کنجکاوی شخصی میآد یه پروندهای هم حل میکنه. یعنی میخوام بگم دوتا لیگ جدان. مقایسهی پوآرو و یوکاوا قیاس معالفارقه.
