She speaks to the dead. He hungers for her soul. Neither can escape the pull.
When Croía’s cursed gift draws the attention of Braiden, a man bound to darkness, she’s thrust into a dangerous obsession that blurs the line between passion and peril. Every call of the dead drags her deeper into a web of desire, betrayal, and ancient power.
The dead want her voice. Braiden wants her surrender. And the darkness wants it all.
Aoife Rye is a dark romance author who delights in immersing herself in captivating worlds where passion intertwines with mystery. A native of County Mayo, Ireland, she now resides in London with her husband and children. Possessing a vivid imagination, she is a prolific storyteller. Her passions for reading, writing, and coffee fuel her dedication to captivating readers, one book at a time.
Croia, made a deal with the diabhal himself and he accepted but as with all deals there comes a caveat, she is given the power to collect souls for him though with the pact comes rules. This takes its toll on her body and during in one collection a man steps out of the shadows, his green eyes locking with hers. Little does she know he’s been stalking her for a while and perpetrating her fall back into the devils lair. From here all hell quite literally breaks loose 🤭
For a paranormal story, it brings us the devil, a banshee, a vampire and something ancient into a tale that expands as you read. Loved Croia’s comebacks. There is a little spice with a plot that is thickening with shadows of something lost. Totally, spirited away with this storyline and can’t wait for the next one especially with the cliffhanger 😱
Firstly I'd like to say this typically isn't the genre I would read aside from the mythological aspect to it however...
The story was very well written, easy to follow and didn't feel monotonous at any point. There are plenty of twists and turns that keep you asking "What's coming next". The characters were unique enough that I loved some and hated others (in a good way). The sense of vulnerability you get with the MFC makes you root for her and hope she has a "happy ending" which she kind of does, kind of doesn't. The story ends on a cliff hanger for a sequel which I'll be reading once available.
It's a cool unique story, although I found the mentality and persona of the characters to be on the extreme side. One minute they will hate each other and the next they scream for each other's touch. The MFC doesn't seem to care that the MMC breaks into her home or "relieves" himself on her windowsill. Perhaps it's due to an unmentioned (or I missed it) power that the MMC has, some sort of charm or possession ability. Or maybe the MFC is just seriously unstable and ABIT over the top horny.
The power dynamic between the characters was odd, I was confused as to why Thorne seemed helpless against Soairse when he's supposed to be the literal Devil (maybe Devil in this mythos is a rank or title instead of being the overall power).
Overall i'd give this: 5/5 story 5/5 writing style 3/5 characters 5/5 world building 4/5 emotional weight

I went into this book fully expecting to need emotional therapy afterward because I thought it would be too dark for me. Turns out it was dark in the sexy, addictive: I’ll just read one more chapter—oh look it’s 3AM way. The characters? Absolutely unhinged in the best possible sense. The spice? Let’s just say my tablet is now blushing. I devoured this. Dark enough to hook me, but fun enough to keep me smiling like throughout. 11/10 would let these characters ruin my life again.
I have nothing bad to say about this book except that it ended way too soon and I needed more! The characters multi pov was great giving an insight into everyone. They are super intriguing and I love how youre given just enough info to keep you wanting to keep reading for more. The plot for me was unique and loved that the ending was not what I was expecting it to be and i say this in a good way! Definitely need more of that 🥵🤣. Thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for book 2! x
Possession curse. Occult and war of the supernatural. Obsession and stalking. Desperation. Banshee and "nothing we can't work around" - there's no doubt why this is called "Stay Silent". Why choose indeed? Or as Braiden says: Tá a fhios againn nach í an uair dheireanach a bheidh ann.
Aoife Rye can paint a picture that makes your heart race and places you right in the action of it all.
The only criticism I have is that this was too short!
Rye 's first book in The Whispered Veil Duet knocks it out of the daffodil filled park! With @Wings & Words 's ARC upcoming campaign for the sequel "Kept Hidden" , DO NOT miss out on the opportunity to read this dark, gothic, Irish romantasynovel. It's no wonder books like this have inspired places like B*d Dr*gon to exist! This was my first adventure into the paranormal genre and I won't be going back!
This book was kindly sent to me from the author and the wings & words community for the opportunity to leave a review which I am leaving voluntarily and honestly! 4.5 rounded⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 2 🌶️🌶️.
This short story opens with so much mystery. We have multiple character POVs, questionable intentions and to top it off, paranormal activities that don’t make much sense.
We learn some haunting stories, and the author paints a poetic narrative of mystery, with an incredibly vivid ghostly ambience. The story weaves together spicy and obsessive human thoughts with legendary folklore tales that feel like a fever dream. If that fever dream was a nightmare. And you wanted the nightmare to come true…
I really enjoyed the way this was written, it was very well written and gripped me from the start. I flew through this book, and honestly struggled to put it down. I loved the additions of all the Irish/Gaeilge language!!
As both a dark romance girlie and someone who enjoys PNR, this was such an interesting combo of both the physical and otherworldly planes.
I loved the characters and honourable mention (obviously) to our animal sidekick Fionn! Yall know I’m a sucker for these features in any genre. The ending of the book was fabulously spicy and had some of my favourite trio moments in it. This is a why choose, and it had a great male POV chapter which I enjoyed too. I loved the little twist at the end and I am so intrigued by Braiden and his developments. Also, Theon AND Braiden?!? HELLO! Also appreciation moment for the Theon Anatomy. Round of applause for Aoife!!
I can’t wait to learn more about these characters and this world, and hopefully a bit more about how this human versus demonic type planes etc will be explained and where they will end up. I actually really liked our villain Saoirse too. She gave me Medusa vibes!
My only criticism is that I would have liked a few more flirty moments and obvious attraction earlier on from Theon and Croía. She litterally describes him as ugly, so I would have liked more sexual tension or appreciation of his form. This would have also helped me visualise his appearance more. Only because when the “collision” at the end happened (for want of a better explanation) it felt a little out of the blue for the trio. I liked Braiden and Croía’s chemistry. Although the whole thing was very short and fast-paced so it had to be slotted in fairly quick. No puns intended. Overall I am VERY impressed by this newer indie author release and cannot wait for the sequel! Loved it!
**minor spoiler ahead ** but wanted to slot this in so I remember for the sequel…
My early guess for the plot twist is some sort of incubus demon angle. Man was H0rnier than Theon.
There is mythology, which I'm always fascinated by, woven into the storyline which is enhanced with snippets of the Gaelic language. If you enjoy a obsessive, stalker vibe with a paranormal twist, this is a read for you. Oh and don't forget the Why Choose. Make sure to read the trigger warnings.
Though the first half moved slowly, the FMC is likeable and you enjoy Braiden, especially if you can overlook his voyerism and his dark attempt to lure Croía out. Add in Thorne, Fionn, and Saoirse and the story got going. The dynamics between the characters created a need to see where it unfolded. Oh...Be certain you have a firm grip on your device at the end.
Stay Silent" by Aoife Rye is a super fun mystery that you won't be able to put down. Right from the start, the writing is sharp and cool, and it totally pulls you into a world that feels really moody and maybe a little scary. The best part of the whole book is the characters. The chemistry and charged-up tension between the main people are seriously amazing and keep you hooked the entire time. What makes this book better than average is how the paranormal stuff is done. It's not just a boring ghost story; the author uses the spooky elements in a smart way to talk about bigger ideas, like fate and making really tough choices. The story moves fast and the characters feel real. If you like dark, exciting books you can't stop reading, you have to grab this one!
You’re pulled straight into a world where danger and secrets linger in the shadows, and where romance and tension walk side by side. This book is perfect if you enjoy a dark atmosphere, supernatural elements, and relationships filled with intensity.
Croía and Braiden have a chemistry that draws you in immediately, and the misty, mysterious vibe makes the book incredibly easy to devour in one sitting. Short, dark, and surprisingly gripping.
This review is voluntary.
Thank you so much Aoife and Wings & Words community for letting me be a part of the team.❤️🌺
Stay silent is a dark romance with alot of dark twists, it is everything you want to read, whiles not being too long. I loved the characters and their chemistry. I can not wait for the next book because that ending..
This book was kindly gifted to me by the author and the wings and words community. I am voluntarily writing this review.
WOW! Just WOW! I absolutely loved reading this the twists and turns were amazing. The love/lust triangle was chefs kiss. Dark romance but not too dark. The characters Croia and Braiden have a back story that is intertwined. Love the little sayings in Irish. The story set in human world and the underworld was something I really enjoyed. This really is a touch her and I’ll burn you to the ground story. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the second book, this one left me on a cliff hanger for sure. Definitely Aoife’s best work in my opinion.
Okay so... this book I started it at 1am..... didnt realise it was 4am and was like 40% done already... (thanks to Beth at wings and words for this arc)
It just pulls you in that much. I didnt want to put it down but know I had to or id be ill the next day 🤣🙃
The one thing I will say is i LOVE how this is 4 different perspectives!
I took an instant dislike to the mmc Bradien... just gave me the instant ick although he kind of (okay alot of) grew on me throughout the book..(especially around about half way through) i actually feel sorry for him.. BUT the creepiness of him at the beginning is like MAJOR RED FLAG BIATCH. - and the rest.... (not giving spoilers by aoife wtf lol) - im so on the fence about him.... but the twist broke my little heart for him... and the dominant side hollllllly... near the end. He really got that to happy. Pretty little bitch boyyy
I was abit on the fence about the fmc at the beginning and wondering wait is she actually death and evil... but after finding out the reasoning for her being who/what she is i totally had her corner and was like yasss queen I like you ❤️
Thorne Just made me laugh my head of with the ego & tantrums 🤣 and his hellhound is amazing 🤣🤣🤣 I also had an instant "oh fuck the shits gonna hit the fan moment" as soon as Saoirse appeared. 😬🤯... andddd pretty little bitchboy 🤣🤯
I have an ultimate hate for Saoirse and just knew she was gonna be the mega bitch in this book.... lol
Overall I read this in less than 24 hours I COULD NOT put it down... it ended to soon 🤷♀️😭 and is so so good ! I need book 2 like..today
Im yet to NOT LOVE a book from Aoife ! I love this and I love Most of all.Highly recommend getting this. One thing I gotta admit I would adore totally is character art from this one!!!
But that ending... what in the ever loving hell Aoife... 🥷

I love the Irish language used in the book & the nod to Irish folklore which I really enjoyed.
From the beginning there’s an overwhelming sense of darkness. Like Braiden is watching from the shadows, waiting to pounce. His job is to save people & all he wants is to end them, just to see her again. His infatuation becomes obsession.
Croía (kree-uh) is a banshee. She releases the souls trapped between this existence & the next with her screams. But it isn’t by choice, she made a deal. A deal that means she is cursed to be this being.
Braiden is linked to Croía is more ways then he ever thought, but there is also the lingering presence of Thorne, the devil himself; the very one who Croía made a deal with. By giving her the curse of the Banshee, Thorne pissed off someone else, someone who is going to stop at nothing to claim the Banshee crown…
The feeling of pure power & sin resonates throughout the book. The cliffhanger is enticing & has you on edge leaving you wanting more, while the spice is spicing to perfection. I’m not normally a huge fan of why choose but this book was deliciously dark & definitely has opened up the possibility for me to read more why choose style books.
I loved this from start to finish. was drawn in with each of the characters and wanting to know more. Aoife is just a fantastic writer, and I can't wait to read more
Stay Silent by Aoife Rye is a haunting dive into banshee lore, obsession, and the blurred lines between desire and danger. This book is unapologetically dark, with morally gray characters and a world dripping in gothic atmosphere. What stood out: • Braiden and Croia’s dynamic are feral and electric—equal parts unsettling and addictive. • The mythology is creative, weaving Irish folklore into devilish bargains. • The spice? Bold, shocking, and unapologetically dark Why not 5 stars? • The story didn’t completely pull me in but it’s still a gripping dark romance worth reading. Can’t wait for book 2. If you crave dark romance with supernatural intrigue and morally gray obsession, this is worth reading. I’m eager to see where Book 2 takes this twisted duet.
I really enjoyed this book. It was such a good read, very different aswell which is so nice to read, and Aoife books aren't difficult to get through they flow so freely. I loved the Charaters had very unique names aswell defo a good read if you love why choose and paranormal
Well, what can I say! 2nd book I've read from Aoife Rye & the 2nd 5-star read, 100% beautifully unhinged. I’ve had to wait 24hours before writing this review, to have time to process everything & TRY & put my thoughts into words, so here goes…..
From the 1st chapter I was hooked by the tension & the mystery. The pace is fast with multiple POV, which initially give me more questions than answers regarding the paranormal activities, However, I was soon drawn in by the thrill of the stalker vibes & as elements were revealed the paranormal connections soon became clearer.
The character development between Croía and Braiden is captivating as you see Braiden's obsession with her & the steps he will take to get close to her, which will ultimately make you cringe! but as their relationship develops their chemistry just sizzles off the page.
The relationship between Theon and Croía is totally different. It seems to be born more from necessity from past events than chemistry. There is a lot of animosity between them rather than sexual tension! Giving off feelings more like a sibling spat, as they constantly just hurl offensive comments at each other! But, deep down you can see he cares, but is it due to an unhealthy infatuation or their unbreakable connection?
There are snippets of Gaeilge in the book, for me only enhanced the folklore narration that is weaved throughout, along with paranormal threads giving more depth to the overall story. The descriptive world-building was good, adding to the reading experience, whilst the spice just took it to another level!
I’m a sucker for a pet cameo & Fionn the Hellhound is up there in my top 5, loved his character & his protectiveness over Croia, but also, he bought slithers of light relief.
If you loved the obsession/stalker vibes in Lights Out & the paranormal spicey flavour of Phantasma then you will love this book, as it takes those elements, squishes them together & creates an absolutely phenomenal read with the added benefit of being a Why Choose! that you won’t be able to set down…..well until you get to the end & then will want to throw the book across the room with the cliff hanger!!
100% would recommend – just make sure you read the trigger warnings first.
* Thank you to the Wings and Words community for the free ARC e-copy of this book! I'm leaving this review voluntarily*
Omg Aoife how dare you leave this book on a cliffy like that!!! I mean you told us there would another one but here Im thinking it’s going to have a nice little ending and then begin again. I need to second book like yesterday! This book was absolutely outstanding though! Beautifully written and keeps you captivated the entire time!
Below are just my thoughts of some of the characters through out the books.
Croia She made a deal with the devil and even she has to be find out what she is. What power so holds. A banshee.
Braiden He watches Croia with such interest. Lurking in the shadows, waiting for her to see him. What he doesn't see, is the beast she brings out in him. The power that runs through his veins. The hunger his body is consumed with to be around her. Something ancient, something old, something that lights the fear within everyone.
Thorne When Thorne showed up I’ll be honest the first thing I thought of was why choose! God I hope so. The anger this demon had for Croia not being scared of him is top level! Even betrayed by his own companion 😂😂 Mans best friends huh. He craves Croia, craves to protect her, craves to claim whats his. But is it her he wants.
Saoirse We have a jealous ex?? That used to be his step mother. What in the world did I just step into! This woman is wicked! Will let nothing get in her way of what she wants. And she wants the power that Croia holds. Her birth right. But not if Thorne can do anything about it. Will he and Braiden team up together to defeat this poison or will she be distracted by a greater hunt.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 I had a great time reading Stay Silent as it is rught up my street with its dark paranormal themes! A Dark Paranormal Why Choose oh my god hell yessssss!!!! This book literally draws you in and holds you captive in its deliciously dark oages! From the very first page the writing had me wekl and truky hooked. I felt it was dark vibrant and edgy all at the same time. The fmc gift is so intriguing. I loved the way the paranormal elements are woven in with raw emotion it isn’t just about ghosts or curses, it’s about power, choice, and what happens when you’re drawn into something bigger than yourself. The dynamic between Croía and Braiden has that electric push and pull that keeps you addicted and i found myself doing the whole just one more chapter and then before I knew it I had devoured the entire book! The pacing was perfect the plot was perfect the characters were totally written to perfection. I am still thinking about certain scenes in this book and wishing I could read them again for the first time. So iff you love dark romance with paranormal themes this is absolutely the book for you! I recommend this book to everyone that loves their books to be intriguing, captivating and twisted with paranormal elements with the most delicious spice.
Thank to Beth at wings and words for giving me the opportunity to read this incredible book! This review is totally voluntary in the hope to get as many people to read it as I know they are gojng to love it.
I didn't know where this story was going to take me. It was dark, twisted and mysterious. The story begins with a tale of obsession and mystery. Croia's story is a sad and lonely one, a mysterious woman who has sacrificed a normal life so that her sister could have one.
She becomes the obsession of a young doctor, who realises that Croia has a special and dark gift. And she is someone he cannot stay away from.
For a while I thought Stay Silent might be a bit too dark for me, but I was drawn into the story, into the tension built between the characters and how their connection is forged. I wanted to understand why they had made the connection they did, even though it was not be conventional means!
The story takes a turn I didn't expect and other characters come into the story, bringing with it a feeling of a dark and twisted fairytale.
Aoife writing is descriptive, haunting and emotional. She really draws you in with well developed characters and you know the nitty gritty of their thoughts, not matter how dark and perverse you might think they are. They are flawed and broken in parts, but something draws them all together.
If you enjoy dark romance with spicy scenes, a deep dive into Irish mythology and are not afraid of flawed, morally grey characters, you will enjoy Stay Silent.
Addition: I really enjoyed the use of Gaeilge throughout the novel too. Nice touch with the Irish language. It brought something really original. Go raibh maith agat!
Thank you to the author Aoife Rye for sending me a digital ARC copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
I am speechless! If I didn’t have to work I would’ve been done with reading in one day! I absolutely loved this book, however, it ends with such a cliffhanger! I need to know what happens. When a book leaves you wanting more it’s definitely worth more than 5⭐️.
This was my first read by Aoife. Now, I can’t wait to read more of her books. I’m so excited there’s a book 2 because I need answers.
Stay Silent by Aoife Rye is a dark paranormal romance about Croía, a woman who can speak to the dead, and Braiden, a being who hungers for her soul. The synopsis describes a dangerous obsession that forms between them, blurring the lines between passion and peril as Croía is drawn deeper into a web of desire, betrayal, and ancient power. The story promises a gripping, unforgettable descent into secrets, with the dead wanting her voice and Braiden wanting her surrender.
This book releases on December 9th.
A huge thanks to Aoife Rye for giving me the privilege to read the book before the book is official.
Stay Silent by Aoife Rye threw me straight into the spin cycle — in the best possible way. From the opening pages, this dark romance grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go.
Before diving in, definitely check the trigger warnings. This story includes stalking, home invasion, light BDSM, and choking.
Rye’s characters are absolute chaos in the most addictive sense: one minute they’re ready to un-alive each other, and the next they’re tangled up in some seriously heated, very adult moments. The emotional whiplash is real — and wildly compelling.
The plot is packed with twists and turns, keeping the tension high right up to the final pages. And that ending? Aoife, how could you? It’s gloriously cruel, the kind of cliffhanger that leaves you shocked, desperate, and muttering “just one more chapter” even though you’ve already hit the last page.
Fast-paced, dark, and utterly gripping, Stay Silent is a short read that left me ravenous for book two.
Aoife Rye delivers a haunting paranormal tale in Stay Silent, a story where the boundary between the living and the dead is as thin as a whisper. The narrative follows Croía, a woman burdened by a "cursed gift" that allows her to speak with the dead. This ability creates an eerie atmosphere from the start, as the dead are not merely passive spirits; they actively crave her voice. The tension escalates when Croía’s abilities attract Braiden, a man described as being "bound to darkness". Their connection is immediate and inescapable, drawing them into a "dangerous obsession" that skillfully blurs the lines between intense passion and genuine peril. "The dead want her voice. Braiden wants her surrender. But the real mystery is what the darkness plans to do once it has both."~Thank you, Beth, and the rest of the Wings and Words Arc Community for the free Arc of this book. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.~
What’s starts off slow and steady quickly ignite’s & explodes!! 🔥
A banshee! … The Devil! 😈 … a human!! … a dog!! 🐾 (Hellhound) … & … a class A Medusa 🐍 style Bitch!!
This story is written from multiple POV’s - the story is captivating!! - the characters are intense!! And the chemistry is on point!! 🌶️
And the cliffhanger … Arghhhhh!!!!
I cannot wait for book 2!! … I can’t wait for the story to continue!! 🖤 … There’s so many unanswered questions and so many different ways that this story can evolve and develop!! I can’t wait to see where the author goes!! I’m excited to find out!!
I deffo recommend reading this book! You won’t be disappointed!! 😍
I enjoyed this book! It’s not normally a book that I would pick up, but I am so glad I had the opportunity to be a part of the arc team for this.
I’ve never read a gothic dark romantasy before, and I really enjoyed learning about Irish folklore. My fave character was Soairse (sur-sha). She was kinda bad ass, zero effs given.
I love Aoife’s writing style, it’s definitely got that dark and spicy vibe that we all know and love. The only reason for the lower rating is that it’s not a book I would normally pick up, but I would definitely recommend.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this story will lead! 🖤
I utterly devoured this book. I literally read this book in one day; it was that good. I may have sacrificed sleep to finish it, but boy was it worth it. Just one more chapter turned into finishing the whole book.
This book is not slow-paced, and you're pulled into the world from the very beginning, yet it still holds such mystery. That has you begging for answers. I was honestly so sad that it ended, as I need more. I can not fault this book; the characters are great, and I love all of them, well, almost all of them. The plot has you hooked, and the spicy scenes (so good)
Absolutely amazing read, I’ve got a visual imagination and it worked. I could see it playing out in my head. And that ending definitely leaves me craving more. Croia as a character is amazing and her story pulled at my heart. Braidens obsession had me from the start and his story and twist was absolutely brilliant and I didn’t see it coming. Throne is big and broody, the blindsided pull in their relationship was so fun. Saoirse is a firecracker and driven and blinded in her mission. I can’t wait to see where this series leads. Highly anticipated and highly recommended read 🤯🤯🤯
What a book, I really enjoyed this read and I devoured it so quickly. Be warned though, it does end in a cliff hanger! I am in desperate need of part 2 ASAP!
This is a dark Romance with some fantasy mixed in, our FMC is a Siren after all and helps the soul cross over........... As I say its a little dark but I loved it. The MMC is morally grey and is a stalker who is obsessed with her!
There is passion a plenty between Croia and Braiden add in to that the devil....... well sparks fly!
Id highly recommend this book, its a fantastic read.
