This was the first I had read of Hayek. I found him to be very much an intellectual. I prefer writers who simplify and speak to the laymen. This was very much written to academically minded economic students. Once you get past the first two chapters, which I found quite dry and uninteresting, the rest of the book was very good.

I learned that the Bretton Woods agreement was Keynesian, that the gold standard kept prices stable for two centuries (1714-1914), and that THE economic problem is scarcity.

A great collection of essays by F. A. Hayek throughout his life. Each chapter takes a theory and either supports it or dismantles it with clear logic. For me, this is an excellent introduction to economic theory first promoted by Ludwig von Mises. I highly recommend this collection.

Very good book; some chapters are a little more technical than others. I found "Why the Worst Get on Top" and "The Pretense of Knowledge" especially enlightening. The author does a great job in demolishing John Kenneth Galbraith's theories, as well as those of John Maynard Keynes.
