Being a knowledge worker in tech, AI usage has become a must. I got this book to further my knowledge, learn different strategies, fill any gaps I might have, and hear thoughts from industry leaders. My employer has required AI use and outlining how we plan to use it in the future so I wanted to prepare for discussions we are set to have about it (I wonder if they read this book as well because this was a concept covered)
As someone who has already integrated AI into my workflow, mostly in the context of coding as an analytics engineer, for several months already, I didn't learn too many new things personally from this book. And if you're in data already, may already know some of the concepts about machine learning, LLMs, neural networks, etc.
What seems like basics, at least to me, are also covered, like ethics, don't put in compromising information, check for hallucinations and don't blindly trust everything is right, etc.
The book also seems to be written by AI itself, with a gratuitous use of em dashes, a dead giveaway to ChatGPT use, as well as more hyphenated words, colons, and semicolons than I would typically see in writing. The writing does seem more natural, but makes me wonder if the book was also created from a prompt, to write a thorough book of what people need to know and key points about AI in 190 pages. I might not complain if this book wasn't $40. It also is quite repetitive in some of the concepts, like many times saying to use AI to do repetitive tasks, make social media posts, summarize emails, etc. All good use cases, just repeated so often and feels like it's to fill up space. This is why I docked a star.
HOWEVER, if you are completely new to and curious about AI and want to learn how to enhance your knowledge work and personal life with it since it seems to be here to stay, as well as a need to know to adapt in a competitive job market, then this is a great book and I agree with a lot that was written. If you are already well versed in AI, it's not worth the price tag, maybe at half the price
