What I appreciate most about Rev Kannwischer's treatment of the apostle Paul's "fruit of the spirit" is his ability to explain how we can live with "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" without implying that it is through our moralistic efforts that we gain these traits. According to him, God cultivates us; the fruit grows in us because of who God is. Our job is merely aligning ourselves with God's efforts. That is a refreshing and grace-filled way to understand this dynamic. There is a lot of wisdom packed into this book.
