When duty collides with destiny, love might tear her world apart.
Princess Raea Tierson has spent eleven years within the halls of Drithm Academy, training among the stars to prepare for her future–one she’s always imagined bonded to her best friend, Kellan. Their magical Lumos Bond has been slowly growing, and she’s certain it’s only a matter of time before fate confirms what her heart already knows.
But everything changes when she reaches the Executive Order and is assigned to Taeolyn dorm under the leadership of the Academy’s dark prince–Anders “Ryker” Rykerson.
Brooding, untouchable, and soon to be crowned heir, Anders has never let anyone too close–until Raea. As her dorm leader and newly assigned escort, Anders finds himself fighting a bond he can't want but can no longer deny. She’s the one person he’s forbidden to love…and the only one who makes him feel alive.
As the veil protecting their system begins to weaken and whispers of war stir across the galaxy, Raea must make an impossible choice: hold fast to the boy she’s always loved, or embrace a future written in the stars with the one man who could shatter everything she thought she knew.
Loyalties will be tested. Hearts will be broken. And a bond foretold may be the only thing that can save them all.
“The stars have already chosen me, but I chose you long before.” Prince Anders Rykerson, the man that you are.
Wow. Just wow. This book has everything I want: planets, space travel, an academy setting, magic, phenomenal world-building, nobility, and, most importantly, a man who yearns.
Raea (the FMC) and Ryker (the MMC) are both heirs to their respective kingdoms, which is a unique take I haven’t seen before. The world-building is top tier. I felt transported to every planet, every new location, as if I was right there with them.
I loved the friendships in this one. Trysten and Ryker’s friendship is adorable, and I loved every glimpse we got in Ryker’s POV. Raea, Ciara, Aolyn, Kellen, and Tate also have such a fun, found-family vibe going.
The magic system is different than what I usually see in romantasy. I can’t wait to learn more about it in the next one. I’m especially excited to learn more about the history of the gods, the veil, how the magic ties into it, and of course, the growing bond between Raea and Ryker.
Speaking of their bond, it’s easily my favorite part. Ryker had me kicking my feet and giggling every time he got possessive over Raea. He’s absolutely my new book boyfriend: yearning, devoted, and loving her with his entire heart. I’m excited to see what’s to come for them.
It unfortunately does end on a cliffhanger (cue my agonizing suffering), but I already know the wait for book two will be worth it. This is easily a top read of 2025 for me, and I cannot wait for everyone else to get their hands on it.
I could not put this book down and when I was forced to it consumed my thoughts! This beautiful story scratched so many itches for me. It has the same great bones as so many of my favorites like: Fourth Wing, Daughter of No Worlds, the Maasverse, The Everflame series, etc. I am in love with these characters, Raea & Ryker, full swoon. I reread so many heartwarming lines they said to each other, I was going to add some quotes in here but there are too many! And such great side characters with such strong friendships & bonds like Trysten, Aolyn, Tate, Ciara, just love love love them all. Pre-order this gem, that way you won’t have to wait one minute too long to read it. I whooped out loud when the acknowledgments said it’s a 5 book saga, I already can’t wait for the next one! Thank you so so very much Eleni James for accepting my arc application for your beautiful story, I feel so gods blessed ❤️
I had a hard time with the start of the book because a lot of it was world building that was explained in blocks and not really integrated within the plot. I also was confused about aspect that were continuously mentioned like the Bond - I feel that aspect should have been elaborated on sooner, as opposed to all the planets within the system.
I do find the concept of the book really interesting, as it’s the first one I’ve read that took place in space and had different planetary kings and queens, but also otherworldly beings who once existed. The book gave Zodiac Academy/Fourth Wing vibes which is great, I just wanted and needed more.
I wanted there to be more explanation and in depth though on important information that Anders and Raea collected. Instead I feel like there’s characters (Raea mainly) didn’t take it too seriously and was like “I’ll get to it when I get to it”. I feel like there’s so many unanswered questions and slight confusion as to what is happing within the planetary systems and what the “gods/goddesses/fates”.
The end makes me want to read the second book simply because I have all these unanswered questions. Overall, good read and very interesting concept. I just wish it was organised slightly better.
"To the very end, I will love you." "When you finally give yourself to me... I'm going to roar so loud and mark you so thoroughly that everyone in every corner of this system will know you belong to me. " 🔥
There are literally not enough stars to give this book. It was that good! When I get a book that has multiple maps and guides, that tells me the world building is going to be fantastic and I'm in for a journey. Imagine an academy setting as rich in world building as Hogwarts or Basgiath, BUT it's in space. Welcome to Drithm Academy. Princess Rhea has spent 11 years at Drithm Academy training for her future as Queen and one where she sees herself bonded to her best friend, Kellan. However, everything changes her Executive year, when she is assigned to Taeolyn Dorm under the leadership of Prince Anders Rykerson. As the veil that protects their system begins to weaken, she and Anders discover a prophecy that may hold the key to saving them. The tension, banter, and slow burn in this book are just off the chart! When we finally got Ryder's POV, I did a little happy dance. Why? Read the above quotes as to reasons why!!! But the cliffhanger..d@@@! How am I going to be able to wait?!!! Thank you for choosing me to be an ARC Reader!
A Fate of Two Crowns hooked me right away with its mix of fantasy politics, academy intrigue, and deliciously complex characters.
Raea is everything I want in a fantasy heroine: she’s intelligent, headstrong, and sure of herself even when her world is full of uncertainty. As a princess enrolled in an academy designed to prepare her for the world and help her find her bonded mate, she shines brighter than most around her. What makes her unique is that her magic isn’t limited to a bond; she can access it without one, making her both powerful and unpredictable in a system that depends on those connections. Watching her challenge expectations while staying true to herself made me love her all the more.
Ryker is our MMC and the perfect counterbalance to Raea. As a prince in charge of her dorm, he’s protective, possessive, and alpha to his core. Their dynamic practically crackles with their banter, tension, and growing pull toward each other feels natural while keeping that simmering slow burn that makes you impatient for more.
The worldbuilding is immersive and richly crafted. From the academy halls to the underlying politics, everything feels lived in and purposeful. The magic system in particular stands out as it’s not just a power up, but intricately tied to relationships, society, and identity. The way bonds define magic, and Raea’s intricately woven history and destiny defies those rules, adds constant tension and originality to the story.
The book is giving Star Wars meets Fourth Wing meets Bridgerton, in the best way possible: galactic scale politics and power struggles, the thrill of academy trials, and the witty, romantic undertones of regency intrigue.
My final thoughts are with a strong FMC (Raea), a swoony yet commanding MMC (Ryker), and a world full of lore, secrets, and stakes, A Fate of Two Crowns was a fantastic read from start to finish. It’s romantic, thrilling, and magical, and it left me hungry for the next installment.
A solid 4.5 stars, it’s nearly perfect, and one I’d absolutely recommend to fantasy romance lovers.
From the very first chapter, A Fate of Two Crowns pulled me in and refused to let go. What starts as irritation between the two main characters slowly, deliciously, transforms into something else entirely—an obsession that simmers, grows, and eventually consumes. The push and pull is intoxicating, the kind of dynamic that makes every glance, every interaction feel loaded with tension.
What stood out most to me, though, was the cast as a whole. Each character feels distinct and alive—unique in their own way, never a copy or reflection of another. Eleni James has a gift for crafting personalities that clash, complement, and challenge each other, making the world feel layered and real. It’s the kind of character work that makes you invest in everyone on the page, not just the leads.
And then there’s the worldbuilding. Eleni has created a complex, multi-layered system that goes far beyond the surface. From the intricacies of the kingdoms and their planets, to the rich magic system, and even the tangled web of political maneuvering—it all fits together seamlessly. Nothing feels forced or overly explained, but instead lived-in and purposeful, making the stakes feel higher with every turn of the page.
This is the kind of fantasy romance that reminds me why I love the genre—sharp chemistry, vivid characters, and a story that balances tension with heart.
The way I’m obsessed with this book! Raea and Ryker officially have my heart and soul. The world building in this book is intricate, detailed, and so well done and intriguing. I’ve never read a romantasy taking place in space, but it was a beautiful blend with my love for science fiction.
The intergalactic travel and use of modern technology (like phones and tablets) made for a unique reading experience not typically seen in this genre. I actually wish we got a bit more text exchanges or visuals of social media posts within or between chapters, to see how the characters interact in a modern age. The space travel between planets/kingdoms was so fun to read, felt very Star Wars in my mind.
The school is similar to Hogwarts, Basgiath, and many of your favorite fantasy academies. They even have their own sport not too dissimilar from quidditch which I loved. Needless to say, I could go on and on with the world building. The first 50% or so of the book is pure enjoyment as you learn more about the planetary system, life at school, and of course the characters.
Raea and Ryker, both future queen and king of their own kingdoms, are so so sweet together. They have a bond that is clear to see and feel, but the SLOW BURN 🥵 omg if you love slow burn then you will love this book. The tension was palpable. Raea’s character had all the traits of a FMC that you love, building strength throughout, learning more about herself in the process, and uncovering her true feelings for our MMC. Ryker is a little gray, sometimes leaves you wondering his true intentions. But in the end has you rooting for him.
The second 50% of the book felt like information overload, that felt hard to comprehend at times. From the true meaning of a bond, a prophecy, fates, mates, elders, and mysterious shadows, you’re definitely left with many questions. Not to mention a pretty big cliffhanger.
Loved this book, definitely want to reread the second half again to try and gleam a new perspective with all the important information. Looking forward to the second book to come out!
Thank you to Eleni James for the early copy in exchange for an honest review!
After reading the synopsis I was sooo excited to read this story because it contains so many of my favorite things (enemies to lovers, mates, magic, nobility, world building, found family, yearning/slow burn) and wowwww did A Fate of Two Crowns exceed expectations. From the very beginning I was sucked into the story, and I couldn’t put it down.
The world building in this story is outstanding. While the main premise of the story occurs at an academy for students, we get to experience so many different places as the story continues. It’s the first book I’ve read that has had interplanetary travel with different kings and queens to rule over the different areas in addition to the gods that also exist overlooking everything. Eleni’s ability to describe all of the different locations that the main characters travel to, makes me feel as if I am truly in the story experiencing it right along with the characters on the page. The way she combines magic with the political constraints placed on the main characters is fascinating to follow along with.
I also love all of the characters that are in this story. In addition to the main characters both being royalty in their own kingdoms which causes a lot of potential issues they have a large group of friends that become family, all of whom are unique and have their own skills that add to the storyline. The tension, banter, yearning, and jokes that we get to experience between different characters make the story so interesting and add to the depth that we get to experience along the way.
I have so many quotes highlighted from this book. The ending is a crazyyyy cliff hanger that has me anxious to read book 2! I already know that this series is going to end up on my list of favorite series of all time!
What a beautiful universe to become immersed in! The world-building was so elaborate — from the distinct kingdoms to the flora, moons, cultures, landscapes, and ancient myths — you’re completely transported into a lush, otherworldly realm. Add in the drama of academy life, and it’s perfection!
And oh, the slow burn. Painfully slow, but it burns so damn good. You can’t help but fall in love with Anders — the broody, arrogant, devoted, and possessive MMC with dark hair and sapphire eyes. He’s utterly scrumptious. And Soraea, our beautiful FMC, is strong, intelligent, and steadfast.
Follow Soraea and Anders as they navigate rising feelings, fate, and the weight of their destinies — both destined to rule separate kingdoms, yet bound by something deeper. They alone sense the coming storm, a change that will alter everything.
This one delivers a wildly original blend of star-skimming sci-fi and urban spin on courtly politics/drama, all tied together with prophecy, fate, and a romance written in the constellations. We’ve got destined love, cosmic politics, and the whole faded-mates package— set against a galaxy where empires rise, academies glitter, and etiquette matters just as much as orbital warfare.
Now, intergalactic romance isn’t usually my personal playground, so parts of this didn’t fully land for me. But credit where it’s due: the author built a universe that feels lush, distinctive, and crafted with intention. And the dynamic between the FMC (Rea) and MMC (Andre’s/Ryker) was sharp, charged, and tailor-made for readers who love their slow burns wrapped in courtship rules and star-forged destiny.
If a Regency-coded romance set across galaxies in the future, threaded with prophecy, academia vibes, and a fated union is your thing— this one absolutely deserves a try.
"Oh, the chemistry between Rhaea and Anders is absolutely electric! The slow burn keeps you on the edge of your seat, driving you to the brink of madness, but when they finally share that kiss, it’s nothing short of magical. And Kellen—what a gem! He’s the sweetest friend a girl could ask for, and his protectiveness is truly heartwarming. The intertwining fates of two heirs from 2 kingdoms, the uniting of two crown unheard off but it's a tale like no other. They’re caught in a struggle between duty and their love for each other, creating a compelling narrative that is beautifully written. It keeps you thoroughly engaged and leaves you yearning for more!"
I read this book as an ARC reader and am so thankful I got the chance to do so. This book has everything I want in a book: magic, ancient gods, a prophecy, slow burn romance, friendship, betrayal, and a vibrant and complex world.
The main characters felt so well developed and I could not get enough of their interactions. I simply had no choice but to root for them. Each of the side characters added a really nice personality and back story to the dynamic of the story, as well.
And the world building!! I really believed this world/universe existed. Each planet had its own unique ecosystem, culture, trade, etc. which was so interesting and well thought out. If you struggle with more complex world building, you may have a hard time with the beginning of the book, but I personally love a more complex world, so I was very happy with it. Also, even if you don’t love a complex world, PLEASE just push through that part, because the actual story line, in particular, the SLOW BURN in this book was so so good. It will be worth it!!!
Overall, this is an excellent first book in what I’m sure will become a household name of a series, and I highly recommend it.
Eleni James delivers a strong romantasy dream with A Fate of Two Crowns, the first in the Of Light and Shadows series. It’s a tale of prophecy, forbidden love and the burden of destiny vs duty.
✨The magic system built around light and shadow adds tension to Princess Raea’s choices, and the romance unfolds with emotional depth rather than instant chemistry. Jame’s attention to details and descriptions leave nothing to question. Once you are in her world you are surrounded by immense colors and lovable characters. It’s all paced at the perfect momentum where it’s easy to follow but deep at its core.
“I want every part of you. Your heart. Your soul. Your pleasure. Everything.”
If you crave morally gray characters, ancient prophecies, and a romance that feels written in the stars but doomed by the crown, this one’s for you. ✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✨Written in the stars love ✨ Royal intrigue ✨ Enemies to lovers tension and YEARNING ✨Magic, betrayal & destiny
So many amazing things went into this book and I cannot wait for book 2! 🤍
Reading “A Fate of Two Crowns” was such a captivating and out of this world experience that I don’t know how I am going to be able to wait for the next book in the series. The blending of history, space, and modern times was intertwining beautifully and something I really enjoyed.
What a great read. I really didn't know what to expect with the sci-fi romantasy aspect but it was great and very different from my usual reads. This world is amazing, the slow burn chenistry is so hot its tangible and the character development is peak! AND THE ENDING! Book 2 cannot come out soon enough!
The main word that comes to mind after finishing this book is potential. The world and magic system were very unique, which made me excited to start the book. My main struggle throughout the novel was that the timing of it felt off. The pace of the world building was too fast, and it seemed like too much was being crammed into the first book so I felt thrown a bit abruptly from one plot point to the next. The character development also happened too quickly or not at all depending on the character, so I just didn’t feel connected to many of them by the end of the book. All in all, Eleni has some great ideas and the potential to write a very cool series. It almost felt like there needed to be a little more editing to make the writing style fit a mature fantasy novel and to smooth out some of the transitions.
This had all the makings of something I would love! Training at a school with multiple skill focus areas, love, adventure, everything! BUT the character slacked depth and ownership that I think would have made this work for me.
A love story such as the one between them is exactly the reason why I am obsessed with romantasy! The tension, the yearning, the banter, the emotions - everything made me fall harder for this book and the two of them ♡ Normally I am more a fan of a fantasy world without technology but in this book it is really well done and gives you a little 'Horizon Zero Dawn' vibes! The connection between old and new is really fluent and I love the world. Our FMC, Raea, despite being a princess, is a badass who can fight, flight and is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She loves both her role as the future queen and her more carefree life in the academy with her friends, her training and to be a little bit normal. Anders/Rykers 🫠 he is also the crownprince and has a careful facade to shield his true self. Underneath his arrogant princling flirty exterior he is the man everybody dreams of. He is vulnerable, funny, protective, caring, possessive and absolutely swoon-worthy 🥰 I love love love him! The world building is detailed and wonderfully done - you get different kingdoms with several planets who all have their special environment and everything is beautifully thought through. There is even a sport and even if I am not the classical sport watching kind of type I was hyped and exhilerated. The side characters and small found family add to the touch of perfection - I think I love Trysten most but Tate is right behind him 😄
I can't wait for book 2 ♡ Be prepared to maybe find your new favourite read ♡ it is definitely one of mine ♡
Talk about jumping up and down when the MMC and FMC brush hands! This book had me swooning over the tension. Also the MMC knows how to make your blood boil from frustration and steam all at the same time. The FMC made me want to get up and go be a warrior princess. I love when a book makes me feel like I can do anything. I enjoyed the fantasy aspects set in a futuristic world that blends magic and technology. This was an enjoyable read that I found myself needing to “just read one more chapter”
I received this ebook from the author as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book took me on a journey. At first, I felt overwhelmed by it. There’s not just a map to kick off the book, but multiple maps and charts and name lists. I felt I was getting into a book that was going to be too complex to be enjoyable. By the time I got to the end, I was staying up late at night and shirking responsibilities to read it. The characters fall into typical tropes but not in an annoying way. The magic system in the world is different and we only get an introduction to it in this book. The bigger world is set up to explore in subsequent books.
Excited for the continuation of the story and finding a shelf trophy.
ARC reader: First of all…holy shit! I need more immediately! This is a 5 book series?!? I need all of them now. This was book had me feeling all of the emotions. I sat up and screamed realizing I had finished!!
I absolutely loved this book! It was everything I wanted and more. I loved the world building, the chemistry and burning desire between the main characters. The spicy scenes left me on edge. I loved the writing style and the character building. Everything about this book was incredible.
From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked. The story pulled me in so easily that I had to slow down my reading just so it wouldn’t end too soon 🩷
I fell in love with the chemistry between the main leads — every scene they shared made me smile like an idiot The way the male lead loved the female lead, his protectiveness and possessiveness (in the sweetest way) made their connection feel so real.
I also loved their friends and how supportive they were. The world-building was another thing that stood out to me. I loved reading about the different kingdoms, and the many planets mentioned. They were perfectly described which made the story feel rich and alive.
There wasn’t a single dull moment. The plot, the emotions, and the little magical touches were so well done. I finished this book feeling genuinely happy, and now I’m counting down the days until book two ✨
This book completely swept me away. From the first sentence, the unique premise and compelling plot drew me into the story and never let go. I absolutely loved the academy-in-space setting—a perfect combination for this elder millennial who grew up on Star Trek: Voyager & Harry Potter!
The worldbuilding is where this story truly shines. The universe feels fully realized, with richly imagined planets, cultures, and histories that are distinct and exciting to explore. Every character feels nuanced and fully developed. James’ attention to detail extends even to the smallest elements: the descriptions of flora and fauna add incredible depth and are a clear sign that she knows her universe inside and out.
One standout element is Aerball, an entirely invented sport that is so cool. The rules, mechanics, and action are described with such clarity and enthusiasm that it feels real, and I found myself fully invested in every match, despite not being a sports enthusiast.
The depth of the worldbuilding is a bit of a double-edged sword at times, as the story occasionally drags under the weight of the worldbuilding and the amount of detail provided. However, it’s yet another sign of the depth with which James knows her universe and a thrilling reminder of the stories yet to be told!
The relationship between Raea and Ry adds another compelling layer to the story. Their chemistry is electric, and the time they spend together in Kliax reveals a deeper, yet more playful, side of each as they engage with the citizens and let their guards down. Those moments of connection do so much to enrich their individual arcs and make their bond feel earned.
What truly stands out is how real their relationship feels in a way that’s often missing in romantasy. The slow burn is painfully slow in the most delicious way, free from unnecessary brooding or frustrating miscommunication. I’m incredibly excited to learn more about their backgrounds and to watch them continue to grow, both as leaders and as partners, in the books to come.
And then there’s the ending. That cliffhanger. RUDE. Absolutely uncalled for. How dare she leave us like that?!
Overall, this is a wonderful, immersive read that left me with more questions than answers (in the best way possible). I’m fully invested in this universe and cannot wait to see where the story goes in book two.
AHHHHHHHHHH! That’s all. All I got. But if I must elaborate, here goes.
I was so lucky to have the chance to read an ARC copy and it was SO MUCH FUN. I am a romantasy girlie and this had all my favorite tropes, in a setting I could have never imagined. From the first few chapters I was obsessed with the plot and the characters and where this story could go from here. Ryker and Raea have such an intricate bond that I could feeellll as I read. Such magnetism. I love a dual POV, especially when one fell before the other. I can’t wait for answers to some mysteries we have yet to see unravel. (Their inability to remember childhood, Ryker’s dad’s whereabouts, a whole ass other Galaxy!? And a MID SCENE cliffhanger. UGH)
I hate to even include this because honestly I had such a fun time reading, BUT. A few small critiques. Introducing the setting and characters felt a little clunky. I sort of had to be ok not fully understanding some things until I got further along. The second is that major plot points were dropped with the same energy as a description of the setting. WHAT DO YOU MEANNNNN THEYRE NOW ON THE PLANET FORBIDDEN FOR CENTURIES TO VISIT!!?? Then there’s a visit to the Ancient Isles that could have been a few more chapters of explanation before just moving on to the next scene. Like this is an island that hasn’t welcomed visitors for how long, and it’s just a nice Sunday brunch with them? Noooo give me moreeeeeee.
So honestly my critiques are that I want more. I want more of the world, I want character lore, I want MORE. And really, is that even a critique at all? I’m invested, dang it.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll just be lost in a daydream of theories until we get book two.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was not sure how I was going to feel given that it sounded like such a mash up of genres but I loved the blurb and tropes so gave it a shot and I'm so freaking glad I did.
It has everything to love about each trope/genre. You like sci-fi? There's a bunch of planets, space travel, spaceships, etc. Romance? Love triangle between a princess, a prince who is soon to be king, and a duke that is her childhood bestie. Fantasy? There is magic and spooky shadows, ancient lore and prophecies, and multiple species (human, fae, elves). We have fated mates, touch her and die, brooding. Mental health and chronic illness representation. Everything one could want and more.
The characters are fantastic. They are young and dumb sometimes, so they are relatable. The mental health and chronic illness rep were incredible. I actually cried sometimes because of the way I related to Raea. The MCs have such good chemistry and banter. The side characters are super lovable and fun. You feel confusion sometimes with some of the characters because they just make you so mad even when you loved them previously...but that's the mark of a well-written character.
The world-building was at a steady pace and built into the plot so that it didn't just feel like "oh no, another chapter explaining the structures in this place" but instead was a perfect blend into the story. Plus, there are a bunch of charts and maps and such to assist if you forget!
I need the next book yesterday! Can't recommend this story enough!
I received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review
Thank you Eleni for this advance copy!!! 💫 I found this story really interesting to read. The whole world-building was incredible! Life in space, the concept of bonding with a perfect match, and gaining magic to help keep the System safe were all fascinating. I would have loved to read more about the different planets and kingdoms, and all the magic and powers people have. I feel like I didn’t fully grasp those aspects as much as I should have. The writing style was really nice, but the pacing felt a little inconsistent to me.. sometimes it was really fast paced, and other times it slowed down a lot. Like some of the travels and scenes didn’t seem to add much to the main storyline, and at other times, important events were just mentioned in passing without being addressed as thoroughly as they deserved. Nonetheless, the overall plot was amazing.. the love triangle, the politics and court affairs, all the yearning and longing, and the slow development of a relationship from true enemies to friends, and eventually to something more. The dynamics between Raea and Kellan at the beginning, and how they evolved over time, especially after Anders came into the picture, were really engaging to read! And the side characters were so lovable, I really enjoyed reading about them and would love to see even more, maybe even a love story too? The story ended on such an open note that I’m genuinely anxious to know what happens next! You will enjoy this Tropes: 💫Dystopian Fantasy World 💫Royal & Court Intrigue 💫Academy Setting 💫Love Triangle 💫Bonded Couples 💫Elemental Magic 💫A lot of Yearning & Longing 💫Found Family 💫Space Travel 💫Ancient Prophecy
Stepping into this book, I honestly thought it would be a cute little romantasy. And yes… it was. But OH MY GOSH, it was also so much more. This story has everything, rich world-building, an academy setting, and classes that actually teach you something. The whole concept of different planets and galaxies? Genius. Learning about each world felt so refreshing, like discovering a brand-new constellation every chapter.
We even get sports, flying specialties, and a whole cast of side characters who fit perfectly into the story. And the modern tech sprinkled throughout? Surprisingly unique, I would genuinely love to read the chaos on their socials… those comment sections would be wild. Overall, the balance was just chef’s kiss.
And our main characters? Damn. Just… damn. I wish I knew geography the way Raea does. Both MCs are future leaders of their kingdoms, and you can feel the tension humming between them. Those secret little touches had me covered in goosebumps. And the SLOW BURN??? When they finally had their first kiss, I was screaming into my pillow. Her dresses, their possessiveness, their hidden meeting spots, the drama, the yearning, the everything.
The action scenes across different locations were incredible. It honestly felt like watching a movie, and I physically could not put the book down. The way the author describes how each character experiences their potential bond is absolutely beautiful.
I cannot wait to see their relationship unfold even more in the next book and to watch their friendships with the side characters grow. Counting down the days already.
4.5 stars | “I might be forced to my knees, but I’ll never yield.”
Princess Raea Tierson is in her final year at Drithm Academy and the Bond with her best friend Kellan is growing just like it’s supposed to. The broody, arrogant Prince Anders Rykerson is the heir of his kingdom, dorm leader, and Raea’s newly assigned escort. With the princeling in tow, Raea continues her training as the future queen of her kingdom despite things in the galaxy ominously beginning to stir.
Another great fantasy series has entered the chat. This time, in space. 🪐 There is a TON of world building, which can feel a tad overwhelming, but I totally understand why it was necessary. Then there’s the full cast of characters, and boy do opposites attract. Raea is strong, independent, and full of life. Anders is cunning, calculating, and a touch morally gray. Kellan is protective and everything you want in a best friend. And of course, their friends and classmates have their own intriguing pieces to add to the story.
Overall, this was a great read. The slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers trope was done deliciously. The magic system and plot set in space felt new and refreshing. The ending? Cliffhanger of course (prepare yourself). One thing I wanted to see expanded on is the Bond, but I know more will come into play as the series goes on. Everything about this book speaks volumes to the amount of love and effort Eleni put into this story. Go get yourself a copy on November 15th!
