Commander Daddy

Rate this book
He rescued her in a blizzard. Now this grumpy mountain commander is about to become her Daddy.

When Kayley Banks drives into a Timber Creek snowstorm with a sick baby and nowhere left to run, the last person she expects to save her is a towering, bossy ex–Navy SEAL who answers the door with a gun in his hand and worry in his eyes.

Gavin Messer built Haven 7 on Wedding Cake Mountain to keep the world out and his ghosts in. But one shivering woman and her feverish baby crack his defenses wide open. Protective custody turns into shared hot cocoa, one massive bed, and a baby who will only sleep if she’s pressed between them like a little starfish.

Kayley swore she’d never trust another man. Gavin swore he’d never fail a civilian again.

But when the same shadowy Network that destroyed Gavin’s team comes hunting for Kayley’s baby, this commander will burn the mountain down before he lets anyone take what’s his.

Small town. Found family. One bed.
And a mountain man who was never meant to be Daddy—until her.

Kayley and Gavin

COMMANDER DADDY is Book 1 of The Timber Creek Daddies series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, age-gap, opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine, forced-proximity, damsel-in-distress, girl gets her military man romance. Kayley is young girl on the run with her nephew after losing her sister. Gavin is a hunky, grumpy, ex-Seal who is now the commander of HAVEN 7, an elite security option. When Kayley's car breaks down in a snowstorm, she ends up at HAVEN 7 where Gavin takes her in. He knows nothing will be the same again as he already wants to protect her. Who is after them and why? Can the group keep them safe? This couple had insane chemistry and their ending was happy after the drama. The overarching story appears to continue into the next book.  This was a great start to a new series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️¾ Commander Daddy by Lizzie Sparks
ARC Review

Overall, this was a strong read for me with a lot to love, even if a few elements did not hit quite as hard as I wanted.

The plot was solid and well paced. It kept me engaged from the start and gave enough tension and structure to support both the romance and the found-family dynamic. I never felt lost or bored, and the story flowed smoothly from beginning to end.

The characters were a highlight. Kayley absolutely had grit. I loved her strength, her resilience, and the way she carried herself even when everything around her felt uncertain. She did not feel passive or helpless, and that made her easy to root for. Adrian, the baby, completely stole my heart. He was genuinely adorable and added so much warmth to the story without feeling like a plot device.

The men at the compound were another big win for me. I loved how protective they were and how quickly they pulled Kayley into their family. That immediate sense of belonging and safety was really well done and gave the book a strong emotional core. The found-family aspect was one of my favorite parts.

The spice, however, was where things fell a bit flat for me. I am absolutely fine with Daddy dynamics in the bedroom, but here it felt awkward and somewhat forced, especially when Gavin said it. Instead of feeling natural or hot, it pulled me out of the moment. I also would have liked more spice overall, both in frequency and intensity, to better match the tone of the relationship.

The ending was satisfying and wrapped things up well. It felt earned and gave good closure without dragging. That said, I really wish we had learned more about Harper. She intrigued me, and her story felt like it deserved more page time and depth.

Overall, Commander Daddy was an enjoyable read with strong characters, a solid plot, and a found-family dynamic that really worked for me. While the spice did not quite land and a few threads felt underexplored, I still had a good time reading and would absolutely continue with this world.

Some heroes run toward danger.
Others build walls to keep it out… until the right people make those walls impossible to maintain.

Commander Daddy by Lizzie Sparks delivers a cozy-tense mountain romance where protection turns into connection and survival slowly becomes belonging.

Kayley Banks isn’t looking for help — she’s running out of options. Stranded in a blizzard with her sick baby nephew and nowhere left to go, she ends up at the last place she expected: the isolated home of Gavin Messer, a gruff ex–Navy SEAL who built Haven 7 to keep the world at a distance. He answers the door armed and wary… but still lets her in.

From there, the story blends warmth and suspense. What starts as temporary shelter grows into quiet domestic moments — shared meals, late-night worry over a feverish baby, and a man who insists he doesn’t do attachment slowly rearranging his life around the people under his roof.

Gavin is the heart of the book: guarded, stubborn, and carrying guilt from the past, yet instinctively protective. Kayley matches him well — strong without being reckless, cautious without being weak. Their connection builds through trust rather than instant certainty, shaped by shared responsibility and the fragile safety they create together.

The tension rises when the danger Kayley fled finally catches up, forcing Gavin to confront the one thing he fears most: failing someone who depends on him. The story balances suspense with comfort, giving both emotional stakes and small-town found-family charm.

What you’ll find inside:

Grumpy protector hero

Woman on the run with a child

Snowed-in forced proximity

Found family warmth

Protective romance with suspense elements

By the end, the mountain isn’t just a hiding place — it becomes a home built from trust, healing, and the decision to stop surviving alone.

⭐ A warm but gripping read perfect for anyone who loves protective heroes, emotional healing, and romance wrapped in a hint of danger.

Quick Reasons: fast paced read filled with found family and "touch them and ☠️" vibes; lush, poetic prose; there was a smidge too much repetition; felt overall flat for me personally

Huge thanks to Lizzie Sparks for sliding into my DMs with an offer for this ARC! This review is voluntarily written and in no way altered by this gesture.

This was a fast paced, lushly poetic read that took me only about an hour to finish. Starting in the middle of a gripping story, I was immediately swept up into the action. Filled with found family and "touch them and ☠️" vibes, Kayley and Gavin command the stage as they moved through the week or so that this read takes place over.

But overall, this read fell a bit flat for me. As action packed as the read is, I felt I didn't really get a feel for who these characters are or how they navigate the world alone before they're coupled up and professing their undying devotion. There was also a lot of repetition-- especially from Gavin's POV-- that made it feel a bit unbelievable at the end. And the spice scene was.... awkward, in my opinion. Almost forced, even. While there was a LOT of potential for this book, it really felt rushed.

Still, I would recommend it to lovers of ex-military meets lumberjack romances, characters who find their way after finding each other, and those who dig a DD/GG bedroom dynamic. Welcome to Haven 7, Penguins; why don't you stay a while?

I wanted this to work because I genuinely enjoy Daddy romance. The protective dynamic, caretaking, comfort, and “dangerous man becomes soft for her” setup is usually something I eat up. Add in ex-military/private security men, a snowstorm rescue, and a vulnerable heroine with a baby, and this should have been an easy win for me. Unfortunately, the writing style made it nearly impossible for me to stay immersed.

The FMC’s narration was constantly quippy, even in moments that should have felt scary, emotional, or tense. Her sister is dead, she’s being hunted, she has a feverish baby with her, and she’s stranded with strangers in a snowstorm — but the narration kept leaning into jokes, trope-aware comments, and overdone comparisons. Instead of building tension, it made the danger feel hollow.

The dialogue also felt unnatural and overly convenient, with characters often saying exactly what the plot needed them to say rather than sounding like real people. Some of the medical/security/procedural wording felt off enough to pull me out of the story completely.

I ended up skimming and stopped after checking the first spicy scene. I can’t say for sure whether AI was used, but it strongly read that way to me: repetitive phrasing, awkward word choices, trope-heavy dialogue, and a very under-edited feel.

The premise had potential, but the execution didn’t work for me. This was not a trope mismatch — this was a writing/style issue.

✨This book was “just one more chapter” until I finished it the same day. ✨

📚 This was my first “Daddy” style romance and it was quite the ride! We’ve got Kayley on the run with her baby nephew, in a snow storm, oh and he’s got a fever so time is of the essence. She knocks on the gate of Gavin, an ex-SEAL, and Commander of Haven 7. Haven 7 is basically a private operation compound, picture lots of Ex-Seals that provide security and whatever other intimidating jobs you can think of. The big question is why is someone after the baby and can Gavin keep Kayley and the baby safe? I loved the mystery elements that were wrapped into this story. The “why” made total sense and I thought it wrapped up nicely. There is certainly an open door to the rest of the series, so if you like quick reads that lead one into the next you’re going to like this one!

🌟 If you’ve never read a “Daddy” trope before then this would be a great place for you to start. It’s only 156 pages, so it felt more like a novella compared to some books, which was perfect for binge reading!

Commander Daddy by Lizzie Sparks is the first title in the Timber Creek Daddies series and as an instalove, found family, hero protector, forced proximity, mountain man daddy romance is was a good read.
Gavin and Kayley were engaging characters from the start with Gavin falling hard and fast for Kayley and her baby nephew Aiden, knowing that he would do anything to keep the both of them safe.
Kayley has been on the run with her nephew after her sister's dies in suspicious circumstances and luckily she stumbles upon the Haven 7 compound during a snowstorm after her car dies.
The plot and story along with the suspense, action and found family dynamic is enjoyable to read. The sparks jumping from Gavin and Kayley that quickly develop into sizzling chemistry have Kayley doubting that what she has found at Haven 7 with Gavin is real and will last, but when danger circles, Gavin proves that he will always be there.
An entertaining story that easily kept me turning the pages to see how Gavin and Kayley's HEA turns out.

ARC REVIEW

I was kindly gifted this to arc read, and I always feel badly giving poor reviews to authors who reach out, but, this just was not it for me. A very quick read with it being a short book, but the Insta lust for me never hits. I love anything military, as well as anything smutty… but this just didn’t scratch any itch for me. In fact, it made me cringe… a lot. From the very first page of her, talking to her car to her and Gavin’s first interaction, the snorting throughout the book as well as cringe statement, such as the TikTok heaven space just… didn’t hit. The smut scenes also did not hit with me either. I felt myself wanting to read past them and was a little confused with her equally milking him while he is also not finishing? I don’t know, it just did not seem like it was put together the best for me.

Nothing seemed realistic, not that it has to be, but, it just felt like a lot of cringe and a lot of what did I just read…. I really hate to leave a bad review, but this writing style just was not for me and I finished it thinking I could have gone without it. Two stars for the concept, but I cannot say I will continue reading this particular series.

Looking for a found family, small town romance with touch her or die trope this is the one to read. Kayley is on the run with her nephew. She is out of options when her car breaks down and he has a fever. She ends up on the grounds of Haven 7 and facing off with Gavin a guarded stubborn towering bossy ex-Navy seal. But Gavin sees and feels something that he hasn't felt in a long time if never before when it comes to not only Kayley but her cute nephew Aiden.
Protection, he must protect them at any cost. But will it be enough?
I absolutely loved this storyline. The characters were well written and provided you a front row seat to an amazing story of love and protection. You not only get a mountain man romance but found family. The brothers of Haven 7 bring Kayley and her nephew under their roof like they always belonged there.
I absolutely loved this first book in the series and cannot wait to read the rest.

Wonderful introduction to this series! Gavin is the new leader of Haven 7. He's gruff, strict and discipline- years in the military shining through. He's also incredibly loyal to those close to him. He's quick to ascertain Kayley's need for help, and get Aiden what he needs. Accommodating his own needs & desires, that takes a far lesser priority for him. Kayley is terrified for Aiden and grieving her sister. It will take some piecing together of what little Kayley knows to understand the bigger picture. The team has their work cut out for them to protect Aiden and bring an end to the people chasing after him. The story contains drama, suspence, violence, tenderness, healing and genuine connection. This unit functions like a family, and they treat eachother as such. I enjoyed the dynamics between the various characters and look forward to getting to know them in greater detail as the series progresses.

I was given a gift copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

He's both danger and safety at the same time

Kayley is running for her life and Aidan's, she has no idea who is hunting her, she just knows they are deadly. She stumbles into Gavin and Haven 7 and she knows she has found safety, but she also feels the threat these men could pose to those who target innocents. Gavin scares her in a completely different way, he makes her feel safe but also makes her want more and you can almost feel her confusion wafting off the page as she fights with these new feelings. The chemistry between them is palpable, but you can also feel the fear they both have, Kayley is scared of needing someone, relying on someone else and Gavin is terrified of failing them. What neither of them hesitate to do is love and protect Aidan, he is the innocent in the centre of the storm, the one they will die protecting. This book is Gavin and Kayley's story, but it is just the start for the Timber Creek Daddies as the fight is not finished, the threat is still out there and Haven 7 is now in the crosshairs. A steamy read on Kindle Unlimited.

This is a hard one for me to review, as I’m quite conflicted about it. I really like the premise of the story however; it just didn’t live up to my expectations.
I Loved the idea of the former military men, and them being daddies, and in this story that fell very flat, as there is only one or two daddy references, and no daddy actions. Also Kayley felt disjointed, as there was only vague reference to her family background except for her sister. That made it hard to connect with her character, and understand her feelings about things. The baby interactions also don’t match up with the baby’s age.
For me this could be a very good series if it was just promoted as romantic suspense, and more consideration to detail was included i.e. explaining who characters are when first named, giving a better background of the main characters.

Danger follows her but he will protect them with everything he has

Commander Daddy is the first book in the Timber Creek Daddies series by Lizzie Sparks. This is a newish author to me so I am still getting used to the writing and story-telling styles. I enjoyed this small town, mountain cabin, ex-military Hero, and woman on the run romance. Kayley has taken her infant nephew and fled. She finds herself in a situation she did not want which sees her at Gavin's door in the middle of a storm. What starts out as a warm place to temporarily stay ends with a lot more as Gavin's heart begins to open and Kayley starts to recognize just what a protective mountain of a man he is. Danger follows Kayley and then we really get to see just how far Gavin will go to protect what is now his and be the Daddy he is at heart.

Thank you to the author for reaching out and asking if I would be interested in this story! I honestly loved it, this was such a great insta love novella with a huge found family and of course, daddy vibes 😉.

Kaylee is running to protect her nephew and suddenly gets stuck in a snow storm, when she finds Haven 7, she didn't expect to also find her salvation in the form of Gavin, the commander of a group of ex navy seals. Gavin and his men not only take in Kaylee, but do everything in their power to find who is after her nephew and to protect the both of them.

This is definitely an insta-love, so if that's not your jam this is not the one for you. But if it is, you're going to absolutely love it. My only compliment is that it wasn't longer honestly. I know this is a series though, so I'm definitely looking forward to the rest!

What a fantastic story! The characters, the humour, the tropes!!

Strong FMC Kayla finds herself on the run with her newborn nephew Aiden, after the tragic death of her sister. Protective MMC Commander Gavin (ex military) finds her broken down in a snow storm and brings her to Haven 7 -

"Sounds cozy. Is it a rehab center for ex-assassins or something?” - Kayla

"Aidan’s cry slices through the dark like an alarm.
Not the sharp, panicked kind—thank God—but the hungry, offended wail of a baby who has decided the world has betrayed him and would like to file a formal complaint immediately." - Gavin

What follows is a wonderful story full of found family, sass and action!
Can't wait to read the next in the series.

Her Destined Journey to Happiness -
This gripping romance story quickly grabs your attention from the beginning and pulls the reader into a story that is intense and emotions are running high, as the characters navigate the dangerous path to seeking justice, so they could life a safe a happy life. This was an intensely thrilling romance story filled with angst, suspense, a horrific subject matter, swoon-worthy scenes, emotional moments and some deliciously spicy encounters, that were woven into the storyline. If you are looking for a story that is exciting and thought provoking, that I believe will definitely be worth you time, then look no further than this book.

This book was short and sweet. I had issues with it but mostly continuity issues due to my insanely annoying attention to detail. Some of it is tiny like how the fmc’s hair changes color a couple times but the cabin really threw me for a loop. At first it’s a one room cabin with the living area to the front and a bed in the back of the room. Later there’s a hallway leading to the “master suite” then even later than that there’s also a safe room… Other than that it’s really really repetitive like every chapter from commander daddy’s perspective ends with him talking about keeping her and he’d burn the world down and never ever ever will anyway take her from him blah blah blah. But it was cute enough and I read it in one evening while being too sensitive for a heavier book at the moment.

This was such a good read. I love the humour quotas it has. Protective MC, strong but hurt FMC.
I love the group of men, the concept, and can't wait for the next!

"It’s a compound. Definitely a compound. And at this point? I don’t care if it’s run by mountain lions or a bunch of shirtless cult leaders. I’m out of options."

“Sounds cozy. Is it a rehab center for ex-assassins or something?”

"And I don’t like that it’s making me feel like a man again. Because men make mistakes. Men feel. Commanders protect. And I’ve got a bad feeling I’m going to do both."

"I still trust him. But trust doesn’t mean I can survive secrets."

Holy moly! This is my type of book. Dark and twisty with a side of mountain man.

FMC is the recently appointed guardian of her nephew after her sister was in a car accident that’s more sinister then it first appears. Now she’s on the run with a sick baby and people wanting the baby.

MMC is part of an ex military group that have their own land they’ve turned into a ‘war’ room and then their own respective houses. When FMC’s car breaks down? She stumbles upon the group when she needs them the most. Can they crack who’s searching for her and why they desperately want her nephew.

Would have loved if this book was longer but excited to see how book two goes!.

Commander Daddy was a fast‑paced, spicy, and thoroughly entertaining read. I loved the FMC’s attitude and sarcasm — she’s strong, determined, and capable, yet still willing to ask for help when she needs it. The MMC is your classic alpha who fiercely protects what’s his, and their dynamic made the story so much fun.

Baby Aiden was adorable, and I really appreciated that he wasn’t just a background prop — we actually got to enjoy him as a character. My only wish is that the book had been a bit longer so we could dive deeper into the FMC’s backstory and enjoy a little more spice.

Either way, I’m hooked. I’m ready to learn more about the men of Haven 7 in the next books.

Loved this book. First I loved the MFC as her name was my named just spelled differently. Kayley’s car wouldn’t start so she had to grab her nephew and start walking. Luckily there’s a place not far that she can walk through the snow to get to. Luckily Gavin opens the gate and lets her inside. Haven 7 was the perfect place to end up. Someone’s after her nephew. But Gavin and his friends can help her. This book pulled me in and kept me turning the page to see what happens next. You do have some suspense and of course some spicy spots! Since this is book one I’m very excited to eventually read the next guys story’s!

Someone is chasing Kayley to get her sister’s, Sophie, baby and is hunting them. Then enter the men at Haven 7. The compound she stumbled onto after breaking down in the snow. Men who are protectors, Navy Seals, so Kayley is now safe hands while they track down her hunters. Gavin, the man in charge of the operation, falls hard for Kayley but she does too. “I’ve always thought people who fall fast are either reckless or lying….And yet.” - Kayley
I love the “touch her or die” trope! One bed. Found Family. Virgin FMC. This was a book that held my attention but left me wanting the next book…and had a HEA. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

The blurb of this book sounded interesting, which is funny as I don't read romance ever. I am glad I read it though, this wasn't just mushy romance, it had a good plot and well developed characters and now I want to read more by this author. So maybe I only like Lizzy Sparks' romance. I thoroughly enjoyed Kayley & Gavin and the other characters. I felt I could visualize Haven 7. The author did an excellent job with this book and I am interested in reading the other books in this series. Would recommend to anyone who likes romance...or doesn't usually. Honestly, give it a chance. You will enjoy it.

“Commander Daddy” by Lizzie Sparks is action packed from the start. This well-written, small-town, romantic suspense short read has it all from intrigue, unsuspected twists, endearing moments, and steamy connections. I loved Gavin and Kayley. Their chemistry filled connection to their tender moments really make their journey read worthy. This author has done a great job with creating their world with found family, friends, and family. This well paced short read is Book 1 of the Timber Creek Daddies series and is recommended.

Kayley is on the run with her nephew after her sister died under suspicious circumstances. Someone is after her, but she is unsure who. She thankfully stumbles across the right place in the form of the MMC's complex where he lives with former military members. She is able to work with them to figure out why they are after her, and her nephew, and in the meanwhile they have a lot of spicy time. There is a lot of suspense, and she does come across trouble but she gets help. I loved every minute of it and highly recommend.

This is a fast paced book and I truly enjoyed it and didnt want it to end.
Gavin is the sexy lumberjack and Kayley is a beautiful damsel in distress who jus wants love and protection.
Gavin goes full daddy protectir when Kayley and Aiden show up. He does what he can to protect them and make sure they are safe.
Kayley trust Gavin right away but hates the secrets esp since they are about her life. They fall in love something fierce and in my opinion they are perfect for each other.
Can't wait to meet the other daddies in this series.

A very quick read with a great story that I enjoyed. Kayley stumbles upon Haven 7 when she is on the run with her nephew and Gavin being the commander of Haven 7 vows to protect them both only both Gavin and Kayley have an instant attraction and that attractions develops into so much more. A great plot with lots of suspense and action that was very well written and although it was a novella it held your attention . Loved this introduction to this new series and I am looking forward to reading more.

Talk about a guilty pleasure! A wow a lot happens here in 100 pages!

Okay. So we have:

• a girl (and her sister's baby) on the run
• a secret tactical compound in the mountains
• a suspense storyline that i REALLY didn't see coming!
• some yummy spice, but story was mostly story-centric.

I really liked this. To the point where I'll probably grab the rest of these (because the story isn't over!!!). Yes, I want the rest of the men to fall in love AND I need to know what happens with this plot line because this is so intense.

Overall: recommend
