The storybook featured in Super Mario Galaxy has arrived!
Our story begins a very, very long time ago with a young girl who spotted a rusted spaceship holding a small star child, Luma. This is the tale of that young girl and that star child going on a great journey together, searching for one thing and finding something else altogether. This is the tale of Rosalina and the Lumas and the secret of their special bond.
Featuring the actual art and story from Super Mario Galaxy, this book will be treasured by fans whether they’ve spent many hours with the game or are brand new to the world of Rosalina and the Lumas.
Nintendo Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Nintendo is one of the world's largest video game companies by market capitalization. Founded on 23 September 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. By 1963, the company had tried several small niche businesses, such as cab services and love hotels. The word Nintendo can be roughly translated from Japanese to English as "leave luck to heaven".
Abandoning previous ventures in favor of toys in the 1960s, Nintendo then developed into a video game company in the 1970s, ultimately becoming one of the most influential in the industry and Japan's third-most-valuable company with a market value of over $85 billion. From 1992 until 2016, Nintendo was also the majority shareholder of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners.
As of 31 March 2014, Nintendo has cumulative sales of over 670.43 million hardware units and 4.23 billion software units. The company has created and released some of the best-known and top-selling video game franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.
18 years since it's release the story has been finally published into an actual book. This could have been a cheep gimmick but unlike most there's something here.
Cover A first impression it's different. No title, author, anything apart from a removeable banner cover actually having the title Rosalina's Storybook. This is where Mario fans are going to love this. The cover designed is pulled right from the game. This is THE BOOK Rosalina was reading. (Even barcode sticker to make it look more authentic.
Interior Story Word for word, it's ripped right out of the game. It's Rosalina's backstory from Super Mario Galaxy and it expands on Mario lore. The story is broken into individual, independent chapters. They have their own charm and is actually heartbreaking and touching story. It's absolutely adorable.
Something to contemplate. You feed them so many star bits they explode into galaxies, planets, comet, ect. but in the book it just happens. Something strange that was left out though is that they removed the Epilogue and it's pages. Granted it's just talking about Her finishing the book then playing the guitar for the Luma's to fall asleep. (Rosalina can a guitar, why does that feel like the weirdest detail of what she can do.)
Illustrations Absolutely charming. Arguably it's even better in book form and if you played the game you've seen the art already. Nothing more to say I love the art.
After Thoughts. Now I want more. Give me Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Yoshi Story. I want more books like this. It's not often Nintendo makes actual storybooks.
Originally appearing in Super Mario Galaxy as a bonus feature that gets unlocked over the course of the game, it's finally available as a physical book eighteen years later. I have to suspect that this has something to do with Rosalina being a significant character in the upcoming Mario movie. There was also a Switch port of the game released this year, and that apparently has additions to the storybook that aren't in the printed volume. The art is very much in the style of watercolors, but still recognizably Super Mario. It's a very melancholy story, with a young Rosalina trying to process the death of her mother, not something that comes up a lot in the franchise. After becoming caretaker to the Lumas, she makes a decision to visit her home planet every hundred years, and that becomes the Star Festival in the Mushroom Kingdom. It's not clear how old she is or how she's managed to live that long, but some form of time dilation might be involved. As I've written before, I understand Rosalina was originally intended to be related to Peach, and she might still be, but presumably a very distant relative from a different era of Mushroom royalty. The book also tells us that Star Bits taste like honey, and shows us that Rosalina had a stuffed Star Bunny before going into space. Anyway, it's nice to have a copy of this.
My husband received this gorgeous hardback today and suggested I read it. Of course I jumped at the chance. By the way, this is the storybook featured in Super Mario Galaxy.
The day a young girl finds a rusted spaceship with a star child inside, the girl and Luma go on a journey to find Luma's mother and instead discover a whole lot more...
This is such a beautiful picture book that tells the heartwarming, and oftentimes, sad story of how Rosalina befriends a lonely Luma and eventually becomes a mother to a whole family of Lumas. It's an adventurous tale, one with a lot of heart, and a found family that enhances how strong, smart, and kind Rosalina really is.
I love the bright artwork, and even the size of the book is lovely. It's a quality product, and a must for all Nintendo collectors.
Also, it's always cool when another form of media is released to double the enjoyment of the original game, movie, or show.
con tan pocas páginas siendo un cuento infantil da dos golpes de nostalgia: la historia tal cual de Rosalina y su origen, y el revivir memorias de descubrir esta misma historia en Súper Mario Galaxy.
Idk if I’m crying because of nostalgia or because of the story itself but omg😭❤️🩹 Smg 1 is still one of my favorite games and I will NEVER get over the fact that we have Rosalina’s story as a physical book now
I will definitely be reading this to my future kids
I have always loved Rosalina's story and I am so glad they decided to release it as a physical book! Super Mario Galaxy will always hold a special place in my heart.
