Kaden Thorn, a dental surgeon who lives a quiet life, has no hope of finding the love he craves. A vicious gay bashing cost him the use of his legs and confined him to a wheelchair. He has given up hope of finding a Dom or even a nonkink partner to love him. When his best friend practically forces him to attend a dinner party, the last thing he expects is a strong Dom who can see beyond his wheels.

Deacon James is an architect and a demanding Dom, but he has spent the past couple of years without a sub or partner. When an employee invites him to a dinner party to meet his girlfriend, Deacon smells a setup but agrees anyway. He prides himself on being an excellent judge of character, and when he meets the younger dentist, he sees past the chair and finds a sweet submissive man who more than piques his interest.

Kade's fears and demons continue to haunt him, challenging Deacon to use everything he's learned as a Dom to earn Kade’s trust and submission. Deacon's determined, though, willing to battle all of it to have Kade by his side and at his feet.

I'll admit, the main reason that I wanted to read this book because the MC is a "dental surgeon."

That's not the only reason, I swear! How could I resist a BDSM book with a wheelchair-bound main character?! I couldn't. I read my fair share of BDSM and this book just called to me.

I really wish this book delivered.

To be fair, this book had some nice aspects. I really like what it tried to do, which is show a disabled Sub still playing actively in the scene, being attractive to others, and finding his perfect Dom. It was well meaning, I'll give it that.

I honestly feel like this book should have been a historical. It was very "the duke sweeps you off your feet" feeling. Deacon is an oddly formal Dom with an old-fashioned, very billionare-esk way about him. This book had a strange "prince vs pauper" vibe, which is really not on the money because oral surgeons make bank (like we are talking 200-400K or more a year where I live). I think in a historical setting where Deacon was a wealthy land owner and Kade his butler or something, it would have fit, but in a modern setting it just felt off.

In addition, this was insta-trust, which I don't love in BDSM. Kade and Deacon moved at lightening speed with each other, going from intros to "my boy" in three seconds flat. I didn't enjoy the speed of their relationship and I didn't think it fit in with the story.

In terms of the characters, I didn't love how PERFECT (with a capital P) both of these guys were. Deacon was understanding and patient to a fault, and wealthy as sin besides. Kade volunteered his time helping at a dental clinic and was the eager, never misbehaving Sub. There was no playful banter between Kade and Deacon, no room for errors. This book, and these men, took themselves seriously. I much prefer bratty Subs and impatient Doms to these pictures of BDSM "perfection."

In terms of the dental content, well, it's lucky that the author kept it to a minimum because I was finding errors left and right. I'll spoiler-tag my dental musings for those not interested in minutiae. I doubt that other readers care if everything is factually correct, but I did.

I think that if you are a fan of very traditional, procedural BDSM that has a non-traditional MC, you might want to give this a try. Fans of BDSM books that are more fun and spunky (ha!) might want to look elsewhere.

I'll write a more in depth review later, but I'm not going to be able to recommend this one to anyone other than super die hard BDSM junkies who will probably already be reading this. It just didn't have the spark to light my fire.

Updated February 9, 2015 : Whoops! I waited too long to review this one and have forgotten the key elements that I didn't enjoy about the book. Hate that!

But, rest assured, this book was not a fun one for me. I usually gobble up any and all BDSM tales, and this one left me cold. My reading progress below will give you some details.

Cannot recommend.

Unfortunately, this one just didn't click for me. The dialogue was too formal for my tastes and I found Kade to be kind of whiney and Deacon too "perfect." Also, this was too much insta-trust for my liking when it comes to BDSM.

Finding a BDSM story with a main character in a wheelchair was unexpected. I really liked this one and was so happy for Kaden when he finally found the yin for his yang, the Master who is worth his submission.

The author did a wonderful job of conveying the heart and soul of these two guys, and when the heat turns up, it gets damn hot! The BDSM scenes are intense, the vanilla sex is tender and passionate. The emotion between Kaden and Deacon is electric, the intensity and rawness of it is definitely cold shower worthy.

Overall, Caged Sanctuary is about learning to put the demons of your past behind, it’s about accepting yourself and not giving up your hopes. It’s about making peace with your boundaries, and embracing life. And…that was so emotional to watch… it’s about making dreams come true, finding the perfect guy and Master… and building a future with him.

As a surgeon Kaden is calm, confident and in control. Refusing to let a wheelchair prevent him from achieving his professional goals was easy; facing those same challenges in his personal life and accepting his value as a submissive... not so much. While his soul cries out for a Sir he can trust and serve, the rejection Kaden experienced upon returning to the BDSM scene after his injuries have forced him to give up on his dream.

Deacon has been without a boy for quite some time, preferring to wait for a relationship than spend his time chasing one night stands. He is immediately drawn to Kaden's sweet smile and the warmth that radiates from within his eyes, but quickly discovers that convincing the sexy submissive of his attraction is easier said that done.

Told primarily from Kaden's point of view, CAGED SANCTUARY is a sensual romance with vividly written scenes that bring the BDSM elements of this story to life. More importantly, it paints a stunning image of rebirth as Deacon and Kaden's relationship begins to unfurl, like a rose as it opens its petals to the sun. Deceptively fragile in appearance, their connection turns out to be unexpectedly strong, but even the most beautiful roses still have thorns. As demons from their pasts emerge, they must both face their fears in-order to take a chance at finding love.

The detailed storytelling captured my attention, the characters quickly won my heart, and the depth of emotion brought tears of both sorrow and joy to my eyes. CAGED SANCTUARY is a story I would highly recommend to any reader who love well written and realistic BDSM themes interwoven with real-life romance. I couldn't put it down!!

A review by The Blogger Girls.

Oh boy was I excited for this one. I love reading about damaged characters overcoming and finding the right person. That definitely happens here.

Kaden is really sweet. He pretty much has his life together – he is a successful dental surgeon with everything set up to accommodate his disability. He seems to have, as best as can be expected, come to grips with his situation. He is in a wheelchair, legs paralyzed after almost dying at the hands of his homophobic attackers. But, it’s only his legs that don’t work. Before the accident, he was a sub; after, nobody wanted anything to do with him. But he was determined that he could still be a good sub, even given his limitations. Luckily, he eventually meets Deacon, a dom who sees Kade’s potential right from the get go.

Deacon isn’t like the other doms. He isn’t so much into the club scene, instead looking for someone to have a relationship beyond the dom/sub aspect, although not 24/7. He is mature and even a bit formal, but these guys seem perfect for each other, almost too perfect. Deacon bends over backwards to make accommodations for Kade, anticipating his needs, finding new ways for him to submit, etc. I loved this aspect of the story and watching it all play out.

These guys move fast, but, under the circumstances, I thought it was understandable. Kade was longing for a dom yet was afraid to even step foot back inside the club where so many turned away from him. Then, Deacon comes along, a guy who is not only interested but seems too good to be true in all other ways. That said, I didn’t enjoy how quickly they jumped into the roles of “boy” and “sir,” as it just felt a bit over the top so soon in their relationship.

I had a lot of trouble trying to picture how Kade did things. Aside from not being able to see how he performed surgery while sitting in a chair, he often moved around in ways I found disbelieving for someone who had no use of their legs. His biggest issue was his self-worth and his ability to submit to someone as well, or in as satisfying a way, as other fully functional subs. I would have liked to have seen more about his dealing with his disability, how he mentally overcame what happened, as it felt as though we missed a very important part of his recovery.

One other aspect that bothered me a tiny bit was how much time was spent with Kade worrying about Deacon getting tired of accommodating him. That Deacon would dump him before long, etc. While certainly a plausible worry, it just came up too many times not to become tiresome.

However, this was a really sweet story that had many refreshing aspects to it, especially concerning the BDSM. As I said earlier, it was great to see the various ways Deacon found to make their sessions work. He did everything possible to make it physically easier for Kade to submit. They even play with Kade’s friend and fellow sub, Jake, and his dom, Sam, which I absolutely loved in this instance. It was all a part of healing for Kade, from renewing his friendship, to allowing other people (a dom specifically) to see him submit now that he is different. These scenes were very well done.

I’m a bit picky at this point when it comes to my BDSM stories, and while I didn’t have any issues with the BDSM aspects of this one, the other things didn’t wow me. But, if you’re new to the BDSM readership, I think you will most likely love this story.

This is a fascinating story about a D/s relationship between a man in a wheelchair, who is a sub but believes no Dom can possibly want him, and the demanding Dom who falls for him and sets out to teach him that “formalities” in a D/s relationship are not what it’s all about. What made this story so interesting for me is not just the romance between Kaden and Deacon, but the focus on the D/s aspect without too much of the physical “trappings” present in some BDSM books. This novel is about the psychology of both men as much as about the physical relationship, and I really liked that.

Kaden is a dental surgeon who is in a wheelchair and totally in control of his professional life, yet he flounders where his personal life is concerned. His self-image has been severely reduced after the gay bashing that paralyzed his legs, and he fervently believes no Dom will ever be interested in him again. He’s got a few memories about actual rejections, and they totally color his world view. When he first meets Deacon, Kaden can’t believe the man is interested. As time passes and they get to know each other better, Kaden still doesn’t understand, and tells himself not to hope. He is so afraid of his own “shortcomings”, as he sees them, he ends up blind to the facts right in front of him. I was totally pulled into his head and found the insights about his situation fascinating. Tempeste O’Riley has done her research well to portray such a realistic picture of what some men in a wheelchair might think and feel.

Deacon is a demanding Dom, but he is also very clear about the point of a D/s relationship. At least for him, it is more the spirit of the idea than the actual reality. Deacon is also a man who is able to look beyond the physical, and he truly sees Kaden the man, not Kaden “the cripple”. As he sets out to explore his feelings for Kaden, he encounters barrier after barrier, and I have to say, I gave him credit for having the patience of a saint. Or maybe he was just stubborn and determined. Either way, he just keeps chipping away at Kaden’s self-imposed resistance, and I cheered him on all the way.

If you like reading about D/s relationships where the psychology between the two men is as important as the physical aspect, if you want to find out what it can be like to be paralyzed and in a wheelchair while dealing with your needs as a sub, and if you’re looking for a read that is interesting, a sweet romance, and full of hot sexual tension, then you will probably enjoy this novel.

Sorry but this didn't work for me. Gutted as I usually enjoy Tempeste's books and I was really looking forward to this.

If I'm honest I was a little bored reading this, kept waiting for the story to get going but it didn't.

Didn't feel this connection between Kade and Deacon, thought Kade was quite a whiney character and Deacon came across as very formal in the was he spoke.

Bellissima storia. Curata, approfondita, caratterizzata davvero molto bene.

This one just didn't do it for me. I never felt the spark between the main characters and the writing never clicked for me.

And the blurb was so good...

3 stars. I wanted to love this book. I really, really did but it just fell so completely flat for me unfortunately. The story line was lackluster and didn't live up to its expectation at all. All the elements were there for me to really enjoy this but I'm just 'blah' about it.

Besides this being M/M BDSM which, um hell yes! give me all of that fam! the main character is in a wheelchair. Hurray for disability rep!! Love it! That was what really pushed me into picking this up because from what I've seen from the M/M that I've read (which is a lot more than I have actually documented here on goodreads...like a lot more. A ridiculous amount really, but I digress) that's never the case. The characters will have issues but they are able so this was such a breath of fresh air.

I'm not in a wheelchair, I walk with the assistance of a cane but I still cannot speak for how well done the rep for people in wheelchairs was here but I thought it was tastefully done. For the most part anyways.

Bear with me I have a lot of feelings about this book.

The characters I liked. I enjoyed Kade and Deacon but their relationship was just kinda 'meh' to me. It was repetitive and boring. It went like this for the entire book:

Kade doesn't think he's good enough for Deacon because he's in a wheelchair. Deacon shows and tells him otherwise.

Kade thinks Deacon will get tired of him because he's in a wheelchair. Deacon shows and tells him otherwise.

Rinse and repeat 100000x until the end of the book. It got old really fast. I get it, I do, because those are honest concerns but Deacon never treated Kade as a burden. He never said or did anything harmful to Kade to make him think that way. It made me lose interest in the story. I did like them as characters though and I really liked their friends Jake and Sam. I wouldn't mind reading a story about those two.

Also, this skips out on the smut. Ummmm......excuse me? I came for the smut and I get maybe three freaking scenes?? What a rip off! It would set up for smut and then fade to black. I was not pleased nor amused. Plus, the writing isn't that good either. It's really basic and this needed to be edited.

Overall, I'd say skip this one. Three stars for the disability rep and bringing that to the forefront but other than that this was nothing special.

Bland, that's what comes in mind when thinking of this book. I think it's great that it is about a disabled sub and tries to show that it doesn't keep someone from following their wants and desires and I give one star for that.
But nothing ever happens, there's no real conflict there. While reading I kept waiting that something would happen but it never came. Everything's just perfect. Deacon and Kade meet, they fall for each other, Deacon of course has no problems at all with Kade being in a weelchair, he knows instantly what to do and how to dominate him. Kade was a rather boring character, he's perfectly sweet, submissive, kind, eager and the only thing about him are his insecurities and even they get boring after a while cause it's repeated over and over again. After the fifth time Kade worries Deacon might tire of him and leave him and Deacon reassuring him and promising that won't happen even Kade should get it. Deacon is always so understanding, he never gets frustrated with Kade not trusting him and constantly fretting he might leave him, no, he always understands. I think it would have been nice if he was annoyed once in a while or something... (and why is the only reason why people break up with each other ? Deacon just didn't fall out of love with is former subs, no it had to be one of the reasons above...).
I like Sam and Jake more than the MCs and found them to be the more interesting characters.
What bothered me also was that Kade is never really honest with Katie. Their friendship is portrayed as really deep and close and still Kade nver reveals his real relationship with Deacon for her stating that she wouldn't understand, call him a freak and pervert. After describing Katie as an open-minded, kind-hearted and intelligent woman I doubt that she'd react like that....
The BDSM element of the book's okay, rather textbook-like perfectly BDSM 101 but at least there weren't any grave mistakes.

LA RECENSIONE COMPLETA QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.it/2...

description
Deacon ci insegna come guardare oltre.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I preorded it some time ago and was so excited when I was finally able to download it. I loved the idea of a disabled submissive. Disabilities in the BDSM world are often overlooked because we all seem to want our heroes physically perfect.

Kade... God, I wanted to just wrap him up and... well, torment him. ;) He'd been through so much shit. I was thrilled to see him find Deacon and finally be able to serve again.

Deacon, well, he was awesome. I loved how ready he was to find ways around Kade's limitations. The beanbag chair, the suspension, the bondage... He was so creative and it's refreshing to see the possibilities.

Yes, it's BDSM, which is kind of obvious from the cover. (Kade's in rope, after all.) And Ms. O'Riley handled the BDSM very well. She's either in the lifestyle herself or did her research.

I sincerely hope to read more like this from her. Thank you, Ms. Riley!

This is the first book I read by this author and I think that will not be the last. I really LOVED this story and I regret that there is not a sequel. I wanted to read this book for already some time, the fact that one of the main characters is a man in a wheelchair seemed interesting to me (and I was not disappointed).
I liked Kaden and Deacon, how their relationship evolves, how Deacon is with Kaden and help him to understand that despite his disability he is always someone 'normal', interesting and desirable.

2.5 stelline

Basta!

The relationship between Deacon and Kade felt very formal. Deacon is a very formal person and Dom. The way they address each other is kinda stiff. As a result there doesn't seem to be any scorching chemistry between them.

I like damaged characters and Kade provides that here but the contrast with too-perfect Deacon is too much. I mean there was not ONE thing wrong with him, never a doubt, nothing.

For those who may care about this there is a group sex scene in this book.

Blah, I got an opportunity to listen to an audiobook presentation of that book and even now, I feel the same. This story is personally, to bland in every aspect. Simply said, boring!!

2014/December/31 - 2 star rating
There is something really bland about this storyline. I don't know why I feel that way, but the way Kaden and Deacon met and how they developed Dom/Sub relations, didn't appear realistic enough. Their story is just to perfect and nice. So yeah a bland paper.

*I reread this and decided I loved it* 🥰

Unless you’re in the BDSM scene you’ll have to have an open mind for this one. I found this book recommended on low-angst fluffy reads lists. I would disagree with that categorisation and say if you’ve ever suffered homophobic abuse you could find this quite triggering.

Didn’t like the authors aversion to using retractions. Made me feel like I was reading the bible.

It was lovely to see a character with physical limitations being accepted in a positive way. I'd love to see more of these types of stories.
