The first book (Ledge) was absolutely one of my favourite reads in 2022. I remember thinking this author’s writing was absolutely mesmerizing and that I could feel the cold seeping through the pages.
The second book (Chasm) left an imprint on me with the characters. She writes such strong and unique characters. I grew attached to the lot of them.
This third book in the trilogy wrapped up all of her enchanting writing skills to conclude this quite perfectly.
I felt like I was walking with the Ledge people through the Chasm. I felt the cold, the hunger and the desperation.
I loved having the Queens POV. I gasped so many times while reading this one.
The twist at the 60%? Never saw it coming. I couldn’t keep the tears from falling all the way till the end.
I felt deep attachment to these characters and consider this trilogy as one of my favourites.

Well, this book was everything I had anticipated and hoped for, while still being surprising and earth shattering and so many things I did not expect.
The beginning chapters were so anxiety inducing, every page I could not get to fast enough to see what happened next—if my babies would live—where they’d end up!
The middle portion was absolutely the most gripping. The backstory and twists! I was screaming! I was cursing! I was once again asking STACEY HOW COULD YOU!!!???
and finally, the end. No wait, stop. I’ll cry again. I cry every single time I think about it. Stacey wrote that ending specifically for me, I think. Because WOW.
I cannot even imagine it ending any other way now.
Yep… it’s happening…. I’m crying again.

And all my soft babies who deserve to be held and loved: I’m so glad I got to meet you and fall in total love with you. I will think of you constantly.

3.5, I do enjoy these characters still, my "problem" was the plot for this one which was a lot of traveling and going in circles ( plus 2 more povs that could have been condensed in only 1 or 2 chapters from them), this ending though felt "complete" and I loved the found family and companionship, curious about this author's next book^^

SADLY, A DISAPPOINTING ENDING
I had high hopes for this series. I was fascinated by the first book. The second book fell a bit flat, but I was confident, it would be turned around for the finale. Sadly, I was disappointed.
What I didn't like
👎 Characters: In the first book I really loved the characters, especially the side characters like Esra and Salem. Sadly, all the characters felt quite diminished in this book. They felt bland, flat and lifeless. What I used to love about them just wasn't present anymore.
👎 Writing: Normally I can get past writing that isn't up to par. But with the characters already bothering me, the grammatical errors that crept up again and again got to me.
👎 Plot: The pace of the plot felt slow and all in all it was a bit repetitive. It didn't really feel like it was going anywhere.
👎 Attention: By the end, my attention was not captured anymore. I skimmed the last 25%, but to be honest, if it hadn't been for the great first book and me wanting to know the ending to that story, I would have DNF'ed this.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy. And honestly I feel like this may have been my favorite of the 3 books.
Sometimes you just need the ending your heart wants vs the one that might realistically happen.

3.75 I did enjoy this series as a whole but I definitely preferred book one this series was action packed with strong characters and a great plot I loved the found family troupe in this series and the banter between the characters had me laughing and rolling my eyes the romance was sweet I'd recommend this series .

This 100% surpassed my expectations of what this series finale was going to be like. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions, from feeling tense throughout the journey within the chasm, happiness & giddiness at the the moments between Dawsyn & Ryon, as well as their found family & also angst & shock in certain moments on the second half of this book. This book made me feel everything, but the epilogue was by far my favorite part of this book & it left me staring at the wall, wanting to experience this series for the first time all over again.
Dawsyn had several challenges within her journey that tested not only her strength & endurance, but also her confidence & belief in herself. It was difficult for her to lead others & have that pressure of being depended on by so many in moments where she felt she needed guidance & reassurance herself. Her overall journey throughout the series is one that I’ve truly loved & it is one that has you feeling proud of the FMC once the story has reached its conclusion. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to her.
Ryon, this man stole my heart from the first book. He is so supportive & protective of those he holds dear & will lay it all down for them no matter what, regardless of what that would mean for him. Ryon overall is such a humble hero with a heart of gold, but the ability to tear you to shreds if needed. In this book, Ryon is once again facing those who wish to destroy all that he has fought so hard for & take away the one who he loves and has become a deeply ingrained part of him.
The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been & the odds are not in their favor. This final installment had some twists I did NOT see coming at all & an ending that leaves your heart feeling all the bittersweet emotions. Dawsyn, Ryon & their found family are characters I will keep with me forevermore. If you’re considering reading this book or series, I definitely recommend it! 💚

This was a good ending. I have to say that I really didn't like Dawsyn for a good portion of this series. She was just too awful and self centered for so much of it. I know that it wasn't supposed to come across that way, but when she lied to the Ledge people it was just too much for me. She put so much on Ryon and others for doing the right thing and then she doesn't, lol.
It did have a good ending. I cried at one spot, but I understood why it had to happen. I'm also glad we got the epilogue. It did help wrap up some questions I had.

I was lucky enough to get this book as an ARC and thank goodness I did because this was one story that consumed me and I couldn’t stop thinking about. I could not have waited until publication to find out how it ends. Spoiler alert: the ending is fantastic. The only thing I didn’t love about this book is I felt like it transitioned Dawsyn from the leading lady starring role into a side character of an ensemble cast. But alas, I suppose it takes more than one “small, tired axe-welder” to save an entire kingdom.

This finale fell a bit short for me, especially compared to the first two! Although the epilogue was adorable, the entire book seemed like filler to an anticlimactic end.
Characters that had a purpose in the journey prior were led to the beginning of this book with nothing to do, only reminded of their presence by a throw away line in the middle of a chapter. I didn’t believe Yennes’ cowardice enough to justify her actions. Dialogue was VERY corny. Was it always this corny? And what about yerdos??? What happened with her???
I am quite disappointed; the elements of the story and writing I enjoyed in the first two books were not as present and honestly it felt like it was being made up on the spot. Still enjoyable, but I think it would have been stronger and more purposeful as a duology. But unfortunately (for me) I’m not the editor!

I can’t believe it’s over! This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster, and I’m both thrilled and heartbroken. Finally the ledge-dwellers is able to reclaim their home and it brought such a sense of peace, but it wasn’t without its costs—we lost some incredible characters along the way. Stacey McEwan masterfully weaves a tale of triumph, loss, and redemption that kept me hooked from start to finish. Valley is a powerful conclusion that left me feeling both satisfied and longing for just one more chapter.
What an epic ending to Dawsyn’s and Ryon’s journey! I am gonna miss them 😭😭😭

VALLEY marks the end of Dawson’s journey to free her people. It's their last-ditch effort to find a peaceful place to live, away from the influence of the queens and the looming threat of Glacia. But first, they must make it through the Chasm, which is pitch-black and filled with the unknown. The stakes in this series have always been high, but in VALLEY, they’ve never been higher.
The themes Stacey McEwan tackles here—rage, guilt, overcoming your past, freedom—are brought to the forefront in such a powerful way. I had high expectations and hopes, but I was still not prepared for what Stacy delivered. She didn’t necessarily give me everything I wanted, but she gave me what I needed. It was the best conclusion I could have hoped for.
The characters are incredible. These are the kind of characters that leap off the page and into your heart, and you’ll carry them with you long after you finish the book. I already can't wait to reread the series, knowing how it ends, and I think I’ll be able to handle, *ahem* certain events, better the second time around.
What makes this book so special are the characters, their stories, and the struggles they face. Many of them have suffered traumatic events and don’t come out unscathed. By the time I reached the second book, I fully understood the significance of Dawson’s memories of her "den of girls"—her home on the Ledge with her mother, grandmother, and sister. It was her safe place, and revisiting those memories throughout the series hit me hard, especially in VALLEY. Every time she mentioned it, I couldn’t help but cry.
Dawson Sabar is such a deeply impactful character, both for readers and for the author herself. Stacey McEwan poured so much of herself into Dawson’s character, channeling her own rage in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. And it’s not just about the humor, though there’s plenty of that in her writing. The banter, wit, and sarcasm are top-notch, so if that’s your thing, you’ll absolutely love these characters.
Another thing Stacey does so well—and it’s almost unfair—is the found-family trope. There were two characters in this trilogy that I told Stacey, “If something happens to them, I’m buying a ticket to Australia, despite my fear of those enormous spiders, and we’re going to have a discussion!” No one is safe in her writing, which is both what I love and hate about it. She takes predictable plotlines and makes them completely unpredictable.
By the time I got to the third book, I knew there would be twists, but I wasn’t prepared for everything that happened. The timing, the pacing, the atmosphere—it all worked together to make VALLEY one of the best books I’ve read this year.
Speaking of atmosphere, that was one of my favorite aspects of the book. We get to explore all three regions in the story: the sunny, prosperous Valley, the cold, harsh Ledge, and the pitch-black Chasm. Stacy's descriptions are so vivid that you feel these places—the warmth of the Valley, the cold of the Ledge, and the oppressive darkness of the Chasm. It’s masterful writing that pulls you right into the world.
Another reason this was a five-star read for me is Stacey’s writing style, which I’ve always loved. Her writing is like poetry in motion. If you enjoy audiobooks, I highly recommend this one. It’s narrated by Hannah Genesius, who does an amazing job bringing the story to life.
I have to admit, this book took me a while to read—not because it wasn’t good, but because I didn’t want it to end. I didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters, and with Stacey, you never know what she’ll do. I knew better than to expect a "happily ever after," but I was still terrified of what was coming.
The ending… we’re not going to talk about that right now. I’m happy with it, but also… let’s just say I’m hoping there’s more to come from this world. Even if there isn’t, though, I’m content with the story I’ve gotten.

What an epic conclusion to a truly remarkable trilogy. Stacey’s mastermind writing literally transports you to a marvellously wonderful world. So many twists and turns, betrayals, heart felt moments and treacherous journeys with what seems like no end in sight. Expect the unexpected and no one (I MEAN NO ONE) is safe. The final instalment in the trilogy has Dawson making the impossible decision of whether to tell her recently liberated Ledge people the truth about their journey ahead through the chasm or lie out of fear they will abandon her and walk right into the hands of another tyrant vying for her blood above.
My adoration for all of these characters truly elevates this journey. Valley is a book that defines the meaning of “Found Family”- how beautiful it was to fall in love with so many characters. I really enjoyed the varying POVs and flash back storyline we received and I found it was a perfect way to deliver in a way that felt natural and not at all “info dumping”.
Let’s be honest, our axe wielding badass FMC Dawsyn is really a big softie at heart whose sole purpose is ensuring the safety and freedom for the Ledge people. The plot and adventure of Valley was by far my favourite of the series and I was simply captivated by the story the entire way through. The bittersweet ending had me not wanting to say goodbye to this series and these characters however, I believe Stacey’s conclusion to this story left you feeling very satisfied. One of my favourite fantasy series to date and highly recommend for all readers.

So many twists and turns, betrayals, heart felt moments and treacherous journeys with what seems like no end in sight. Expect the unexpected and no one (I MEAN NO ONE) is safe. The final instalment in the trilogy has Dawson making the impossible decision of whether to tell her recently liberated Ledge people the truth about their journey ahead through the chasm or lie out of fear they will abandon her and walk right into the hands of another tyrant vying for her blood above.
My adoration for all of these characters truly elevates this journey. Valley is a book that defines the meaning of “Found Family”- how beautiful it was to fall in love with so many characters. I really enjoyed the varying POVs and flash back storyline we received and I found it was a perfect way to deliver in a way that felt natural and not at all “info dumping”.
Let’s be honest, our axe wielding badass FMC Dawsyn is really a big softie at heart whose sole purpose is ensuring the safety and freedom for the Ledge people. The plot and adventure of Valley was by far my favourite of the series and I was simply captivated by the story the entire way through. The bittersweet ending had me not wanting to say goodbye to this series and these characters however, I believe Stacey’s conclusion to this story left you feeling very satisfied. One of my favourite fantasy series to date and highly recommend for all readers.

An absolute rollercoaster of a novel, with a Dawsyn that is struggling to lead her people, guiding them through darkness to find a home, with her depleted powers; meanwhile, the Queen and new King of Glacia are craving for Dawsyn's blood, a persecution that can only end in one way.
If there's something that has shown McEwan during the series is the evolution of Dawsyn as a character across the books; from the girl that wants to fight to the one that becomes a leader, and finally one that is suffering as leader and that is realizing that she just wants to find a home and renounce to power. A powerful woman that develops in parallel with how McEwan takes a more epic approach to this romantasy. Sacrifices must be made to reach their goal, but at least Ryon will continue with her.

McEwan paced this third book a bit slower than the previous ones, taking more time to still expand the worldbuilding and Dawsyn's ancestor story. I found really smart how the tension is built for Dawsyn and her people, slowly adding elements that are adjacent to horror; and honestly, the ending is totally what I Dawsyn deserved, an extremely satisfying one.
Valley is the perfect conclusion to a well rounded series, showing McEwan's skill at weaving together various plotlines to get the best from her Glacian Trilogy. If you are a romantasy reader, or even if you want to read more epic stories, trust her, and deep dive into this series as soon as possible.

I cried the whole way through this book 😭😭 never has a book broken me and put me back together again so many times.
I was scared and excited going into the final book. I didn’t know how everything would get wrapped up so fast but it was done beautifully.
Dawsyn and Ryon go through so much in this epic finale. If any couple can make me believe in fated mates, it’s them. Mages, iskra and Glacian warriors should mix but they do. No spoilers but I was gasping through certain parts that I did not expect at all.
Stacey McEwan has a way of transporting you to new worlds and bringing you along for an epic journey. I felt transported into her world and I’m so sad it’s over. But she wrapped it up beautifully.

WOW - absolutely epic conclusion to the trilogy.
I have loved this series and these characters. I knew this third and final installment would be full of action, but I had no idea of all the twists and turns and jaw dropping moments that awaited me.
There were interesting time jumps used that kept me glued to the story. I couldn’t put it down!
I am still wiping happy tears from the epilogue.
If you haven’t read this series yet- I highly recommend it! The third person omniscient writing style always takes me a minute to get into, but it’s so worth it.
I can’t wait to see what Stacey Mcewan does next.

I'm not crying, you're crying!
I've spent the past year frantically wondering "what does she mean 'filled'??!!" So you better believe I absolutely devoured this book!
What a satisfying final instalment in what I can honestly say is my favourite series. This book takes us on a wonderful journey while still answering our many questions and giving the wonderful cast of characters fitting conclusions to their story. It all just works and I loved it

An excellent conclusion to the trilogy. While this entry did begin a bit slow it continued to pick up steam throughout and never tapped the brakes. I really enjoyed the continued development of many of the characters, and of course the ever present humor. (If you follow Stacey McEwan on Instagram you know exactly what I mean.) Beyond that though the plot of the trilogy really came together to, what I think, was a very fitting ending here. There was one character at the end I would have liked to hear more about but for the most part I was very satisfied with the ending. There were also a couple twists, one big one, that I definitely did not see coming, and when they were revealed I obviously found myself lying in bed going "Ok well now I need to read one more chapter!" so yea, thanks for the lack of sleep I guess Stacey...
I have said this before but I will reiterate it again for the conclusion of the trilogy here; I love that this is a romantasy book, but that it is one that regular fantasy readers or guys can find a lot love about as well. Yes romance is one of the major plot directions, but there is so much more than just that. There is also great world building, history/lore, characters, humor, action, and so much more. Y’all I think I’m cursed. Seriously what is going on with most series finale books this year. Valley was one of my most anticipated books of 2024. And sadly I’m disappointed.
Before I get any further though I do wanna give a massive thank you to NetGalley and Angry Robot for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.
Back to the nitty gritty. I’m extremely conflicted even typing this review. This series has been one of my all time favorites. But our third and final book fell short of what I was expecting. Which feels so wrong to type out and it breaks my heart. But even with that said don’t let that discourage you from reading the series as a whole.
Because let me tell you, Ledge was a fantastic opening to an action packed fantasy world with a splash of romance.
And we can’t forget about Chasm! By far my favorite book in the series. Chasm was a kick butt sequel with action, betrayal, magic and romance from start to finish.
Oh but Valley.. this book felt like that one lord of the rings movie where literally all they are doing is hiking and sleeping. Then we get to the last 40% of the book for finally something to happen to get the plot rolling again. I understand during those slow scenes there was importance to them and events that had to happen I just wish we could’ve reached our destination quicker.
Now again Valley did get better after we got past the halfway point. However it wasn’t perfect. I didn’t feel as connected with our main characters like I did in previous books. The romance was barely a fizzle. And to top it off the ending felt rushed.
Even though Valley wasn’t my favorite. I still highly recommend this series. And will always recommend it to any fantasy reader.

An extremely disappointing end to the trilogy. This series would have been so much stronger as a duology. I loved the first book, the second book was just okay, but this was a draaaaaaag. Books 2 and 3 should have been 1 book. I cared enough about the series to want to know how it ended but god damn, it took way too long to get there. The characters were walking around the mountain doing nothing for way too long lol. I wanted to DNF at SO many points but ended up pushing through to at least finish the series

this was a fun read but in no way did this series need to be a trilogy! so much action packed into the last 40% but everything before that was extremely dull and i considered DNFing a bunch of times.

I think Valley was a solid and satisfying end to the series, it was definitely the best written of all 3 books and you can feel the authors growth throughout the series, while still keeping consistency in the voice of the story.
I found Chasm a bit boring because there was not a lot happening in the plot and it was a lot of arguing, one of the main characters almost dying and then not but still not much of the actual story had moved forward and so I wasn’t sure what to expect of Valley but I did enjoy it more because more happened.
I really love Ryon and Dawsyn, I was so happy to read a fantasy series where he wasn’t disgustingly over protective, and she was already a good fighter from living on the Ledge and didn’t suddenly become amazing (I’m looking at you SJM) and I actually enjoyed that after the rush of their relationship in Ledge that it really slowed down and they properly got to know each other. I don’t know if they ever explained their “connection”, are they fated mates? Not sure, as it was never really explained.
I also liked how some key characters died, I think it was important and likely that some died, except I was sad about it. Yennes/ Farra breaking the pool although sad, was done so well and it felt like the right conclusion for that storyline.
I am a big fan of Hector and Esra, and also how Hector and Dawsyn stayed close friends. I was half expecting him to be a Dain Aetos-esque character, which thankfully he wasn’t.
Things I didn’t like so much:
At the end, I was still confused about Ruby. Did she willingly get captured or was that an accident? And I also never really understood why Yennes betrayed them, when she knew that Ryon was her son. I understand that she had worked for Alvira, but she betrayed her anyway so I don’t really get it.
I also didn’t know how much time had passed until Dawsyn mentioned it had been months since she initially came down the mountain because it was quite a fast paced story so I thought it could have been weeks. And some of the writing was beautiful but I think the word “meager/ meagre” was used too many times.
I really loved how unique this story was, and I think it had some familiar elements to other popular fantasy series which pulled me in but was still so different to anything I read so far, and the authors voice was so clear and unique that it really stands out.
I love that Stacey McEwan is an Australian author writing fantasy, and I am definitely looking forward to what she does next!

A wild, unrelenting and entirely unhinged final instalment from McEwan, I thought Valley delivered on all fronts. The story picks up where we left our band of intrepid heroes - right in the thick of bad decisions and pessimistic prospects. The writing is punchy and the dialogue balanced between witty banter and grim exchanges. It's fast-paced and entirely readable.
One thing about this book that made me smile wryly throughout is that NOBODY is having a good time at any point. Not Dawsyn, not her little found family, not anyone putting their faith in her actually. But also none of the "baddies" are having a fun rainbow happy time of it either - everything is disordered, making poor decisions and just hoping for the best. It lends the story a real feeling of chaotic fervor and as events crack along the reader is just along for the ride.
We have grown so attached to the characters over the course of the books and there's some really beautiful, touching moments that grow their relationships amongst all the action. Dawsyn remains a firm favorite of mine but I was surprised to really be drawn to Yennes' story as we learnt more about the mysterious mage.
I did find myself getting bogged down in the middle of the book, but I do think this had more to do with me rather than the book itself, because I couldn't fault the writing.
This was an action-packed, heart-in-mouth finale to one of the most original fantasy trilogies I've read in recent years. Thanks to Angry Robot Books for the ARC.

I was very lucky to receive an ARC of this book. Valley is the last book in the Glacian trilogy, that sees the conclusion of Dawsyn and Ryon’s story. As per the last two books, this is a slower paced book, more of a journey than constant action and excitement. The writing is excellent (per usual). This book picks up with Dawsyn, Ryon, their friends and the ledge people having escaped the ledge and now in the Chasm looking to journey to the end and to freedom. Now with the Glacians and the human queen chasing them, they struggle through the darkness, famine and insanity of the chasm. I enjoyed this book, thought it was a good conclusion. I am happy we got more of Yennes story, that was unexpected. I think that it could have been a little shorter of a book, but with this world and characters, I don’t mind staying in it longer either.

Dawsyn has been a fantastic FMC right from the start, and her journey of self-acceptance and learning to trust in others was so well written. She is flawed and makes mistakes, but you absolutely continue to root for her throughout the story. I loved the pacing of the story and the fact that I had no idea where it was headed and how the final confrontation was going to come about, but it got there in the end, and I found myself tearing up at the conclusion. If you are looking for a solid fantasy series with terrific world building and memorable characters with a good romance (that doesn't take over the plot) with some nice spice, this is a solid recommendation to try this series!!

This is the final instalment in the Glacian Trilogy. Overall the plot over the three books is highly satisfying. Our FMC Dawsyn continues on an epic quest, now with followers and responsibilities. I enjoyed having the POV of another formidable FMC, the Queen, this added another dynamic to the story. This book definitely has less romance, there are a few bits of it but this was definitely in the background to conclude the plot, which did upset me slightly as I wanted more. Also, initially the start is slow, but the writing is great, you are in that Chasm and feeling for these people. After about 40% the plot picks up. The epilogue was fantastic at the end. Definitely a great series. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.

What a conclusion to an epic trilogy! I had no idea where Valley was headed yet you best believe it surpassed all my expectations! I had originally rated this novel 4.75 stars, however I just can’t stop thinking about it!
I feel like I got whiplash from my own emotions, one moment I’m laughing, the next there’s tears, throw in a little shock and back to more tears.
The character development throughout this book and the whole series was top tier. The found family warmed my heart but also tore it apart. Hands down the most loveable and laughable side characters I have ever read, I caught myself absolutely cackling.
The enchanting writing really made you feel immersed in the story, like you were experiencing everything our ledgies were experiencing.
BUT THE TWISTS AND TURNS?!
The queen of cliff hangers strikes again.
Every crumb that Stacey dropped I gobbled that sh*t up and the hoovered back for more. I am sad to say goodbye to this world and these characters, but safe to say this trilogy has become one of my absolute favourites.
