The Scarred Soul: Understanding and Ending Self-Inflicted Violence

Rate this book
It happens whenever a person deliberately and repeatedly cuts or burn themselves, or purposefully hurts themselves in some other way. It's disturbing and dangerous behavior, and so hard to stop that many researchers consider it a kind of addiction. This is the first book written for the victims of self-inflicted violence and the first to teach them what they can do to stop hurting themselves. The Scarred Soul explores the reasons behind the impulse to self-inflicted harm and shows readers how to examine its impact on their lives and take steps to overcome the psychological traps that lead to self-inflicted pain.

This was a great help book, and it really meant a lot to me at a time when I needed some understanding. There are sections for family and friends of people who have difficulty with SIV, as well as sections for individuals themselves (usselves? We?). It's an in-depth study, so whatever your reasons, I'm sure if you have this coping mechanism, something will resonate with you and you may be able to help yourself.

It gives very good insight into those who do SIV. I would recommend it to anyone who knows someone who they love who has battled with these issues. It also gives a very human and positive spin to SIV which I appreciate. :)

This book helped me to learn how to not self injure. To not cut and burn. It helped in many ways to save my life and my sanity. And my arms and legs from more burns and cuts.

There are different things to do with this book. Different activities to accomplish. Things such as writing down why you practice Self Inflicted violence. Writing down how old you were when you first self injured, ways you did and such. Each activity helps you to learn more about how and why you self injure.

She explains what SIV is and what it isn't. Some reasons why people engage in it. She asks you to figure out why you did.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who self injures and anyone who loves them. I recommended it to my counselor and it has since been recommend to others also.

This is the best book I have read on Self Injury and how to deal with it and to eventually stop self injury. This is the book that helped me to finally get a handle on my own self injury patterns and I have now been able to go almost 4 year with self injuring.

I recommend this book to EVERYONE....particualry other self injurers and their loved ones, and also to therapists. I gave a copy of this book to my therapist to use with other clients and she too has found it to be invaluable.
