Sapphic Historical Romance

👒 Bookish Thoughts
I loved this book and both FMCs so much. Each had her own way of reclaiming power, and I loved how it reflected that survival and joy can be forms of resistance. I was very proud of Olivia!

The author didn’t shy away from what it meant to be a woman in this time period, especially a queer woman. It was emotional, thoughtful, and beautifully written. Please check TWs before reading.

* I also didn’t realize this was part of a series. But I was still able to keep up with the story regardless.

💗 What to Expect
• Sapphic Romance
• Historical romance
• Healing and resilience
• Enemies to lovers
• Spies 🕵🏽‍♀️

Don't say it's the end! This fabulous series lets the leader of the Queen's secret agents have her happily ever after.

Phillipa has been the rock-solid leader of a vigilante group hunting aristocrats in the Devil's Sons, who are involved in human trafficking (called "the flesh trade" in this book, which is the period-appropriate phrase). In the last book, we got some insight into Phillipa's past, which involved the hero of that book, Edward. Phillipa and Edward's sister were involved, but the sister was sent to an asylum (for her "unnatural" behavior with a woman) and killed herself while there. Ever since, Phillipa has been a loner of sorts, though she was briefly married and is now a widow.

Olivia is our other main character, who was introduced in the previous book. She was also sent to an asylum after her husband found her being intimate with her maid. While away, her husband fed their daughter lies about Olivia. Now home, she wants to take her daughter and run away to America, in hopes of escaping the Devil's Sons.

The two women don't like each other and are fighting a strong physical attraction. As they work together, their relationship morphs into a romantic one. It's an incredibly satisfying story, as the evolution of the relationship is exactly what you want for two characters who have a lot of trauma in their pasts.

I was a little reluctant to finish this story because the Deadly Damsels have been such a great team of women to follow, but I hope we'll see some of them again in Darcy McGuire's next series.

3.5 stars! A pretty fun, action-packed read.

This is the fifth book in a series, but I believe it is meant to also act as a standalone.
With this being said, I do wish that I had known it was part of a series, and had read some of the previous works first.
I think it would have helped me develop a better understanding of the overall plot.
Luckily, I was able to read and (mostly) understand what as going on, but I had a difficult time starting out.

I did take quite a bit of enjoyment from the romance aspect of this story though!
This is enemies to lovers done really well in my opinion.
The development in the relationship between Phillipa and Olivia was great, and I appreciated that it wasn’t too much of a slow burn.
I think the pacing really helped to keep me interested in their story.

There were also some really emotional parts to this.
Hearing about Liza, Phillipa’s former lover, and what happened to her following peoples discovery of their relationship, actually hurt.
I think I myself was also devastated.
Olivia also went through a lot as well, given her brothers torment and cruel nature.

Reading about this parts of their lives really helped me establish a connection with them that I didn’t have before, and I was rooting for them so hard by the end.

Overall, it was an enjoyable story! I just had a hard time getting into it at first, since I was a little bit confused on the plot.
I think it is probably great if you have read some of the other books prior to this one.

Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books and author Darcy McGuire for providing me with the eARC of “A Lady Most Wayward”, in exchange for my honest review!

Deadly Damsels continue!

Just when the Duchess of Dorset, Lady Philippa Winterbourne, thought she was on the trail of the Crow, someone stopped her in her tracks. That someone was Lady Olivia Smithwyke, Marchioness Brightmore.
Lady Philippa is the leader of the Queen’s Deadly Damsels committed to searching out the identity of the leader of the Devil’s Sons and destroying him. The Devil’s Sons are a network of the powerful and the degenerate, mainly noblemen, who steal girls and young women, use and abuse them, and then secretes them overseas to places like brothels.
Olivia has been playing a fraught hand, never more so than when her daughter is taken by the Devil’s Sons. She needs the help of the Deadly Damsels.
Taut with friction and undeniable attraction between the two main characters this is a Victorian sapphic thriller that encompasses danger, secrets and love!

If you're looking for sapphic romances with actual plot, they're lurking in historical romance. I’ve been exhausted by the glut of sapphic contemporary and romantasy titles where nothing happens. I want story. I want external conflict. I want a dang plot! Darcy McGuire delivers all that and more in this final book of The Queen's Deadly Damsels. Thanks to Boldwood Books for the complimentary early copy.

Lady Olivia Smithwick has spent the last decade locked away in a “home for wayward women”—a genteel term for an asylum. Her abusive husband had her committed for her sapphic behavior, leaving her to endure the cruelty of conversion treatments in the mid-19th century while he raised their daughter to believe her mother had abandoned her. When he finally deigns to bring Olivia back to England, it’s only to force her help in his illegal flesh-trading ring. Olivia wants no part in it, but with his threats hanging over their daughter, she has no choice. Now her husband is dead, and all Olivia wants is to take her daughter and leave England for good. But the small fortune in cash and jewels she secretly hid away has been stolen—by none other than Phillipa, Duchess of Dorsett, leader of the Queen’s Deadly Damsels.

Phillipa and her Damsels have been tasked by Queen Victoria with dismantling the trafficking ring. Lord Smithwick was key to the operation, but the elusive ringleader known only as “The Crow” remains at large. Phillipa is convinced that Olivia not only aided her husband’s crimes but also knows The Crow’s true identity. She’ll do whatever it takes to bring Olivia to justice and capture the ringleader. But when Phillipa finally comes face-to-face with Olivia, her assumptions begin to unravel. And what’s more, both women feel a dangerous, undeniable attraction—one that could throw them both into upheaval.

I did something unusual here: I read this series out of order. I’m on Boldwood’s ARC list, so they emailed me about this book and I said “yes” with no context, just based on the description. Consequently, I haven’t read the previous books where Phillipa appears as a secondary character or where we see the crimes in which Olivia was involved. But Darcy McGuire is a master of the craft and does a great job catching the reader up—and making me want to go back and read the rest of the series.

This book is a banger from start to finish. We have enemies-to-lovers, a mystery, a chase, and plenty of family drama. I was locked in. It’s so hard to do true enemies-to-lovers outside of fantasy anymore because the stakes just don’t feel high enough. An office rivalry isn’t going to cut it. Here we have Phillipa trying to arrest Olivia for a crime punishable by, at minimum, transportation for life to Australia, and at maximum, execution. Olivia is willing to sacrifice herself to keep her daughter safe, even if her child believes she left her. The stakes are existential.

If you’re looking for a hot read, look no further. These two characters hate-make-out pretty early in the book and share several intimate scenes, but one or both are usually still clothed during those encounters. It’s not until just before the final confrontation that we get a full sex scene—and it’s totally worth the wait. Darcy McGuire does a great job of building tension with small moments of release along the way.

I loved this book and am looking forward to going back to read the rest of the titles in the series. Luckily, it’s on KU, so it’s super accessible. ★★★★★

I was wondering when we’ll get the book about Phillipa! And it didn’t disappoint.

The story follows Phillipa and Olivia on their mission to save Olivia’s daughter from The Devil’s Sons leader.
This is a brilliant enemies-to-lovers, F/F romance, with fantastic characters and a plot that draws you in really quickly. Another 5-star read in this series.

It’s a strange thing when you finish one of your beloved series.

First, there is a sigh of relief when the author delivers an ending that does justice to the story, characters, and style of the series as a whole. Darcy McGuire did just that. A Lady Most Wayward kept the momentum of the previous books, providing the expected romance and action, as well as a satisfying conclusion to the overarching mystery and mission. Previous couples were given page time to remind us of the earlier adventures of the Queen’s Deadly Damsels and cemented each of their happily ever afters.

Then you get to enjoy the book for what it is, in this case, a beautiful enemies-to-lovers sapphic romance that examines processing grief, recognizing your own strengths (and weaknesses), letting go, and fighting for what you deserve, even if you aren’t sure you actually deserve it. Philippa and Olivia both have tragic backstories that made their romance hard fought and transformative. There couldn’t be a better match for the two characters, especially when you consider where they are in their personal stories. While the covers might be fun and colorful, the emotional hardships and growth the characters go through cut deep. The witty banter and comedic inner dialogues provide breathing room to reflect on the feelings the characters’ journeys elicit.

Lastly, you feel the emptiness that comes from saying goodbye to the world and cast of characters you’ve spent hours with. I’m in a post series funk, but I cannot wait to talk about this series with fellow readers and remember the highlights. I also know that Darcy McGuire’s next series will be amazing. I’m curious if the little crumbs she dropped for us at the end of this book are for future bonus content or tie-ins to Consultants to the Crown.

I can’t finish this review without saying how much I LOVE Lady Philippa. I cannot get enough of her strong voice and fierce persona. I highlighted almost every word that came out of her mouth and every thought in her head. It was an absolute pleasure to see her become less of a caricature of a snarky, fearless leader as the series progressed. She became real with cracks, insecurities, and pain. I know the series is called the Queen’s Deadly Damsels, but Philippa deserves the crown. It’s always been about her.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. This is my honest review.

A Lady Most Wayward by Darcy McGuire is the 5th book in the Queen's Deadly Damsels series and if you haven't read the first four, you're going to have to in order to make sure you get the full story. The characters and the mystery carries through all five books even though each book focuses on a different couple.

Phillipa and Olivia make up our couple in this book and I was happy to see we finally get more of Phillipa. She has been the backbone of all of these stories but she has always been in the background and pining for her lost love. We got a bit more of her in the last book but this one is all hers. Based on what Olivia did in the last book, Phillipa is determined to catch her and bring her to justice. But she can't seem to stop thinking about Olivia as more than an enemy.

When Olivia and Phillipa decide that they are better off working together to bring down The Devil's Sons, their deal becomes complicated. A relationship between them would be forbidden but they can't seem to stop themselves. The question though is whether Phillipa can let the past go before she loses her chance.

As I mentioned, I enjoyed this one. It was a great wrap to the series and I was happy to see Phillipa get her story told. We finally got to learn about the head of the group who was kidnapping and selling the women and children and that was an interesting twist. Overall, this series was entertaining and I would recommend to anyone looking for a historical romance that has action, spice, and unique elements. I'll definitely be picking up more from McGuire in the future.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book just as much as the last one, which picks up right where things left off. Olivia finds herself in an impossible situation after betraying one of her closest friends to protect her daughter from the Devil’s sons — and now, only one remains: the Crow.

Knowing who the Crow truly is, Olivia tries to make the best of her circumstances by planning to flee London with her daughter. But her escape plans are quickly derailed by the Duchess of Dorsett, Philippa Winterborne, who seizes the funds she had saved. To make matters worse, Olivia becomes the target of the Queen’s Deadly Damsels, who assume the worst without knowing she’s acting out of love and desperation for her daughter.

When she turns to Ivy for help, Olivia is forced to work alongside Philippa, and the two women strike a deal — Olivia will reveal the Crow’s name in exchange for her daughter’s safety, even if it means sacrificing herself.

My favourite parts were the sharp banter and chemistry between Philippa and her butler, Stokes — absolutely delightful! This is also the first sapphic romance I’ve ever read, and while I’m still deciding how I feel about the genre, I’m definitely open to reading more.

Darcy McGuire’s writing is fast-paced and utterly engaging. I’m such a sucker for a good period romance, and this one delivered. The spice was there — just enough to add heat without overtaking the story (around two chapters’ worth, which felt perfect).

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC, and apologies for the late review!

Thank you to Boldwood Books for this ARC.

I haved loved the whole series but I was waiting for Phillipa's book as soon as we found out that she was a lesbian but I love a Sapphic love story.

Phillipa and Olivia were giving ENEMIES - Yes! This was delicious and I loved the high stakes of finally taking down the Devil's.

There were so many levels and I loved learning more about Olivias and Phillipas backstories.

It fully warmed my heart when the whole gang had a heart-to-heart with Phillipa.

I will say that Darcy absolutely smashed this Sapphic enemies-to-lovers, Regency love story.

I am super excited for Darcy new series but I hope we see more of Callum and Hyanicth as they were so cute!

Darcy McGuire closes out the Queen’s Deadly Damsels series with a daring, heartfelt, and thoroughly satisfying finale. A Lady Most Wayward has everything I’ve come to love about this series—espionage, scandal, danger, and romance—but it also breaks new ground by centering a sapphic enemies-to-lovers relationship that feels both bold and deeply moving.

Phillipa, Duchess of Dorsett, has been the formidable leader of the Deadly Damsels throughout the series, a woman of wit, command, and secrecy. At last, her story takes center stage as she strikes a reluctant alliance with Lady Olivia Smithwick, a mother with everything to lose and a past shadowed by betrayal. Their mission to bring down the Devil’s Sons is high-stakes and dangerous, but it is their combustible chemistry that drives the novel—what begins as mistrust simmers into undeniable desire, tested at every turn by duty, circumstance, and forbidden longing.

The historical setting is lushly drawn, with all the elegance of a Bridgerton-style ballroom combined with the cloak-and-dagger intrigue of a spy thriller. McGuire doesn’t shy away from the harsher realities women faced in Victorian England, yet she writes with warmth, humor, and hope, ensuring the story never loses its heart. The romance between Phillipa and Olivia is slow-burn, spiky, and beautifully earned, offering some of the most memorable moments in the series.

As a conclusion, A Lady Most Wayward ties up the overarching threads while giving Phillipa the spotlight she richly deserves. Cameos from past characters add to the sense of closure, but the focus remains firmly on this final, transformative love story.

With sharp dialogue, sizzling tension, and emotional depth, this is Darcy McGuire at her best—a fearless blend of historical romance and espionage that leaves you smiling, swooning, and a little sad to say goodbye.

Perfect for fans of Cat Sebastian, Emma Orchard, and anyone who loves their Regency romance with a scandalous, spy-thriller twist.

Thank you to Boldwood Books, Darcy McGuire, and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

Lady Olivia Smithwick has thrust herself into the bad books of Phillipa, Duchess of Dorsett by enabling her husband in his orphan smuggling crimes. Now he’s dead, Olivia needs to send her daughter away to safety and there’s nothing she won’t do to get her there - including risk her own freedom. Meanwhile, Phillipa will stop at nothing to find the leader of the crime gang - The Crow - who Olivia knows the true identity of but can’t give up. With this, the two become an unlikely travel duo and things soon heat up along the way. Will Olivia save her daughter? Will Phillipa catch the crow? Will the two let their inner feelings out or just burn each other alive in the process?

The slow burn romance in this was H-O-T! The tension of enemies to lovers is always a good vibe for me but when it comes to two strong, fiery women battling their repressed desires in order to achieve their irrespective goals, it just hits different. McGuire writes intimate scenes extremely well with a great blend of tension and spice. I was here for it.

Aside from this, the actual plot is enjoyable and I loved reading a historical romance with such strong, dominant female characters. It was both refreshing and empowering. The writing was a great balance of description and plot - keeping pace whilst not rushing through backstory. There were a good mix of characters with even the side characters adding humour and depth: I particularly loved the butler and Callum. They added a good rapport to the protagonists and it was nice to see.

Overall, a great read for lovers of pacy, slow burn romances, even those who do not usually enjoy a historical read (as I usually don’t).

I’ve really enjoyed The Queen’s Deadly Damsels series, and A Lady Most Wayward is a fitting conclusion. What I’ve loved about these books all along is how they mix intrigue, danger, and romance into something that feels both exciting and heartfelt. This instalment carries all of that forward but also takes a brave new step by centring a sapphic relationship.

I thought it was a refreshing and welcome choice that added new depth to the series. The romance felt tender, real, and just as compelling as the high stakes and daring action that have been hallmarks of the earlier books. Darcy McGuire didn’t shy away from the challenges such a relationship might face in a historical context, but she handled it with warmth and nuance, making it a joy to read.

As the final book, it tied up the threads of the series nicely while still surprising me along the way. I found myself both satisfied by the ending and a little sad to say goodbye to these fierce, unforgettable heroines.

A Lady Most Wayward is a strong, engaging close to the series—one that’s not afraid to be different. If you’ve enjoyed the earlier books, this one will give you everything you’ve come to expect, with the added delight of a fresh perspective in its romance. The relationship with Stokes the butler and Reading the secretary gave me a much-needed comic reprieve, in amongst the other themes.

My very big thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood books and Darcy McGuire for an excellent series and the ARC's, allowed me.

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of being able to read this book. I really appreciate it.

You have no idea how excited I am that I was able to read Phillipa's story!!! I had the absolute privilege of being able to also arc read the previous book and the one thing I really wanted was Philippa's story because I absolutely fell in love with her and here it is! Her and Olivia! Yes everything! True enemies to lovers right here, and it was flawless! Getting to watch them both grow, come together and fall in love completely stole my heart. Their banter was top notch, well still being period relevant. There were a lot of laughs, and giddy feet kicking goodness here! Between the two books I've read so far (I haven't quite had the chance to read the previous yet) Phillipa and Olivia are my favourite, and I know no matter what they will still be in the end. They are so perfect together.

Sorry for gushing on them, honestly this book was everything I wanted and so much more, especially that ending it was a perfect wrap up. Darcy McGuire has also once again created a fabulous and flawless period piece, with characters who are going to steal your heart, and make you feel like you've found family and home! If you love period romances, and romances in general you are going to absolutely love this book!

Thank you so very much again from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the absolute privilege of being able to read this book! I truly appreciate it! It has absolutely stolen my heart!

A Lady Most Wayward is book 5 in Darcy McGuire’s series, The Queen’s Deadly Damsels, and it was a solid entry in the series.

The main characters in this book are Philippa, Duchess of Dorset and the one I would call the leader of the Deadly Damsels, a group of women who secretly investigate for Queen Victoria, and Olivia Marchioness of Smithwick, a woman somewhat wrongly accused of being a part of her husband’s evil schemes.

Philippa has vowed to bring Olivia to justice, despite her strong attraction to her. Throughout most of the novel the two fight their feelings, and fight constantly (both verbally, and sometimes physically) so if you like some angst in your romance, this may be the book for you.

In addition to Olivia, Philippa is after an underground ring of men who are kidnapping children and selling them into sexual slavery, but despite the threats to Olivia’s daughter, I didn’t really feel a sense of urgency in catching their leader until almost the very end of the book.

The romance between Philippa and Olivia was, as already stated, quite volatile. Philippa felt cold and judgemental for a lot of the book, and I didn’t warm up to her until late in the story.

I did enjoy A Lady Most Wayward, it was the second book that I’ve read from the series, and while not my favourite, it was a good read.

4.5/5 This was a great conclusion to the series. Getting the long awaited love story for the aloof and fearless leader. That allowed Philippa and Olivia lots of page time together and by themself on a road trip.

An enemies to lovers where keeping your enemies close works until you get to know them better.

Philippa’s past has remained hidden for most the series and Olivia is a mystery as well since she’d only returned from the continent. There was so much longing between the two, both torn in different directions by their situations and experiences.

A satisfying end that brings all the Deadly Damsels and their spouses together to take down The Deadly Sons once and for all. There was a few things I was waiting to be brought up and brought to a close at the end that didn’t materialize. But a side character had some characterization and the announcement that a new HR series from this author was coming has me excited and looking forward to what’s next.

A Lady Most Wayward is the fifth book in the Deadly Damsels series.

There are two open door encounters and a fade to black.

Intro/synopsis:
The last in the series, “A Lady Most Wayward” is Phillipa’s story. Her deadly damsels are so close to catching a human smuggling ring called the Devil’s sons. Olivia was at the mercy of one of the leaders, he was her husband and used her daughter to make her work for the organization. Now he is dead and she is on the run until she is forced to work with Phillipa to gain safety for her daughter. They take a road trip to see to her daughter’s safety and soon discover no one is safe from the leader of the organization. Can they stop him in time?

My thoughts:
This was a great way to end the series. The plot had a major twist at then end that I didn’t see coming but was so good. The road trip was interesting at the beginning of the book but seemed a bit redundant to the plot line. I liked the chemistry between Phillipa and Olivia but it was hard to reconcile Phillipa’s hatred turned into love so easily. Overall an enjoyable book but it didn’t quite hook me in like the others did and I think it was because the enemies to lovers trope was a bit overdone.

This is the fifth in a historical comedy, Queen Victoria’s (Female) Secret Service, romantic romp series. Each book is a stand alone part, but characters from the previous books pop up in subsequent stories.

In each book a damsel/young lady finds the one. While running through the series is the hunt for disreputable Lords who have found their match in the growing band of The Queen’s Deadly Damsels and their paramours (who just happen mostly to be the King’s alternative.) Only the Head of the Devil’s Sons is left to be found and brought to justice.

The lead Deadly Damsel is Phillipa, Duchess of Dorset’s, who has guided her protégés to listen to their hearts. Now she is put to her own sword as she finds Lady Olivia Smithwick totally beguiling.

Maybe four stars, but the ending made me smile so five stars happily after all.

Another great series comes to an end!
The Deadly Damsels are back, and they are ready to finally end the Devil's Sons. They are a group that sex trafficks orphan boys and girls.

Phillipa is mad that Olivia has escaped. She is set on finding her and bringing her to justice for her husband's crimes. However, Phillipa and Olivia are brought together by Ivy Worthington, who helps them strike a deal. Phillipa saves Olivia's daughter Hyacinth and sends her to America, and Olivia will reveal the identity of the Crow, the main head of the Devil's Sons.

It is always nice to see the characters back again and reunited. I was very pleased to see Phillipa finally find love in the most unexpected place, to her. We all knew she and the other character had some unresolved and tense emotions hidden in plain sight. I couldn't believe who the Crow was!

Thank you, Netgalley and Boldwood Books, for this eARC. All opinions are entirely my own.

4.5⭐️

The animosity between these two is palpable from the start, but so is their attraction, and it’s hot as hell. However, there’s also a layer of grief and hidden emotion, as both Philippa and Olivia have secrets and ghosts in their pasts. The parallels between Olivia and Philippa's first love Eliza, are so present, and while I normally wouldn’t like this, I think it goes a long way in bringing Philippa around to Olivia’s side of things. They have both wildly misunderstood each other, and when they both crack open a piece of their souls for the other, it brings this romance to the next level. Through the high-stakes investigation and road trip to save Olivia’s daughter from the Devils Sons, this one kept me on the edge of my seat. A secret society that deals in human trafficking of women and children, hidden amongst the aristocracy and the villain group of the series. There’s one final boss left (the Crow), and these two must find a way to work together to save Olivia’s daughter and stop this group once and for all.

Philippa holds on to some intense grief, and I think if you’ve read the other books in this series, it’s even more poignant. We’ve seen her and pieces of her past, most especially in A Most Unlikely Lady. But getting her POV and truly understanding the grief she feels over losing her first love, the one she feels will be her only love. It’s easy to see why she’s prevented herself from moving on and finding happiness. And when she meets Olivia, someone who’s faced similar struggles to Eliza, it allows her to battle through these ghosts to recognize an ultimate place of healing. That said, bring the tissues because this one is an emotional ride that will hit you in all the feels.

An excellent and (mostly) satisfying ending to this series! This one was so worth the buildup of the whole series. Getting to understand the duchess better and finally getting her story in this one was exactly what I wanted. My only critique is that the ending felt rushed, and I would have loved to see an epilogue with the Damsels. No other books in this series have one, but I think it would go a long way in helping provide a nice conclusion to this saga. A perfect blend of heartbreaking, angsty, steamy, and with a poetic journey to healing that felt satisfying for both characters. Have the tissues on hand for this one, because it’s an emotional ride that I couldn’t put down. Olivia and Philippa have the delicious enemies-to-lovers vibes you’ll adore, and as always, this series has a fast-paced mystery with potentially the highest stakes yet.

Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for an eARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

“Save my daughter, catch the Crow, win a Duchess and live happy ever after. What could be simpler?”

I was so excited by this story (a sapphic historical romance!!!), but I ended up with mixed feelings.
This time indeed the espionage intrigue was too much for me, almost a farce, and it kept me away from the romance part, sometimes.
That’s a pity because I LOVED the romance part. Philippa and Olivia are both great characters, not so opposite, and I loved the banter and sparring matches, as much as seeing them opening up to each other after many reluctancies as they feared the weaponisation of their confidences. Their traumas coming from the past —and projecting their tentacles in the present— were truly interesting to read, as they forbid them to simply envisage a future.

Thank you Boldwood Books for the access to the eARC on NetGalley. My opinions are my own.

Wow, what a finale to this series. I loved seeing Philippa's growth in this, as we didn't know anything about her up until the previous book. I was so excited to find out the identity of the Crow, it was a real plot twist. I did feel like there could have been a little bit more of a buildup to the final takedown of the biggest bad guy of the series.

I did like how Philippa had to set aside her preconceived notions of Olivia. It was really out of character for her and set her development in motion.

Darcy, if you're ever going to write a new series in this universe, please write about Hyacinth and Callum. They belong together and I would die to see their love story.

Thank you Darcy McGuire and Netgalley for the e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.

As I hadn’t read any of the previous books in this series, there were some points when I felt I was missing something. That being said, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book. In fact, it only made me want to go back and read the others! The book featured sapphic enemies to lovers story that was very moving. I thought the premise of a group of women, the Deadly Damsels working to take down a group called the devil‘s sons was very good as well as unique. I really liked the historical setting with its fabulous description. The characters were larger than life and brought the story Straight from the page.

Admittedly I was a bit confused at first, as I had skipped books three and four. Oops. But honestly, I was intrigued by Phillipa in the first two books, so rounding out with her was delightful. I also grew to enjoy Olivia over the course of their road trip from hell. Chapter one did NOT present her particularly kindly. All in all, a solid ending to a series, with a possible lead in to a follow up series.

I love LGBTQ historical romance and deeply enjoyed this sapphic romance. Phillipa is a badass vigilante duchess, out for justice, and Olivia, is mother trying to escape her traumatic past. It all start as an enemies to lovers situation but the romance between them builds slowly, making every moment between them feel intense. The personal struggles combined with the criminal intrigue kept me hooked

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Honestly i felt it was a slow build up l, but has strong protagonists amd chemistry with enemies to lovers gives it the tension amd growth, its a blend of genres.
The desires between phillipa and olivia is risky amd meaningful, forbidden touches, secrets and hiding their true identities. Although i have not read the others in the series the queens deadly damsels, when i have i will reread this book.

An enjoyable finale in this series. This book features all the characters we have met previously including Billy. He helps get crucial evidence against the Crow. Phillipa and Olivia take centre stage this time and have daring adventures in Cornwall before bringing the Crow to justice back in London. Olivia forms a closer bond with the daughter her husband alienated her from and she finds love and companionship with Phillipa.

A great conclusion to the series! I loved finally getting Phillipa’s story. She is the epitome of the grand dame in regency novels. I loved seeing all the friendship and characters from the previous books all come together.
