Savage Queen

This will be for both books because I couldn't read just one and not jump right into the next. It's intense, gripping, very dark, and it keeps you on edge throughout.

Harlow has had a horrific life until she is kidnapped by Caterina. Cat not only helps Harlow heal, but also shows her how strong she truly is. In this mafia life, there are monsters that need to be slayed.

Please read the trigger warnings. This was a tough one for me to get through, but worth it for the HEA.

i have finished by and i have THOUGHTS abt this INSANE RIDE. 😭😭😭 first of all… i struggled at the beginning. i’m not even gonna pretend i didn’t we need to be honest alrighty!! 😭 it felt a little too soft, a little too easy, a little too sunshine for me… and the whole kid storyline just wasn’t my thing at all 😭 WHICH IS OKAY!! I AM ALLOWEDDDDD TO FEEL LIKE THIS 😭 i was sitting there like… where is the chaos. where is the suffering. respectfully like not put this girl trough more but.. GIVE IT SOME PAAAAAIN 🫠🫠🫠 AND THEN.
the middle of this book??? OH MY FUCKIIIUNG GOD. it completely dragged me back in. suddenly everything got intense again, messy again, dramatic again INTERESTING MY LORD because ofv harlow is staying consistent with her favorite hobby: getting kidnapped!!! 😭😭😭😭 and HER REVENGE??? that moment??? her finally taking her power back and dealing with the monster who hurt her??? i was literally sitting there like yes. yes. this is what i’ve been waiting for. it felt so deserved, so powerful, and not just like revenge but actual SWEEET CLOSURE for her. shes a warrior queen!!! 🛐🛐🛐🛐 once again the healing journey was done SO well. nothing felt rushed, nothing felt fake. you actually feel her growing stronger, piece by piece, and it makes everything hit so much harder emotionally. also: no side characters i loved died this time 🙂‍↕️ (because the author already emotionally destroyed us in book one and took a potential favorite🤨🤨🤨🤨) the relationship still served that insane “soft for her, feral for everyone else” energy and yeah… the spice was absolutely spicing 🤭 BUT I HAVE QUESTIONS. like: what happened with natalya, anya and her niece??? (if that was correct usage of names and plotline LIKE YKYK?) also what is going on with harmony (was that even her name?) and serenity??? like ofc serenity is their little one and stuff BUT WHAT ABT THE ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING HURTING HER BAD GUY PLOT??? why do i feel like there are storylines just… left open???😭😭😭😭 it feels like there was more potential there that we didn’t fully get, unless i missed something and these question did get answered and i'm js silly 😭 (which is honestly possible because i was emotionally spiraling half the time 🫠🫠).
also side note… is the author okay??? LIKE ARE YOU ALRIGHT HONEY???😭😭😭 like genuinely. do we need to check on her???? or just encourage her to keep writing more emotionally devastating, slightly unhinged, filthy books because i will absolutely read every single one. NOT EVEN JOKING. 😭
i love whatever is wrong with her. overall: rough start, INSANE middle, very satisfying emotional payoff, and now i’m left with feelings and questions and zero peace. aaaalso.. caterina i fully support you. i might dream about you. wow. women. 🛐🛐 hot italian mafia queen supremacy 🛐🛐

I had been counting down the days for this release. After Merciless Queen, I was completely invested and couldn’t wait to dive back into Katerina and Harlow’s story. The anticipation was real.

This book picks up right where the first left off, and from the very beginning it feels intense, emotionally heavy, high-stakes, and charged. It’s very much a continuation rather than a standalone, carrying the weight of everything that came before.

What I loved most here was seeing a different side of Katerina. We’ve known her as ruthless, strategic, untouchable, but Savage Queen lets us see her stripped back. The pain she carries after Harlow’s capture feels raw and genuine, and her determination to fix what was broken, to make her wife feel safe and secure again, adds so much depth to her character. Watching someone so powerful be that soft, that devoted, is always compelling.

And truly, Katerina being willing to burn the entire world down for Harlow? Elite behaviour. No notes.

I also really appreciated the shift in how our author handled the trauma in this instalment. Instead of leaning into graphic on-page SA, the focus is on the emotional aftermath, the inner turmoil, the fight to survive, the quiet rebuilding. It was handled thoughtfully while still acknowledging the weight of what happened.

If I’m being honest, though, I did feel at times that the pacing was a little too fast. Everything moves quickly, emotionally and plot-wise, and while that keeps the intensity high, it also left me wanting more space to sit with certain moments. Especially when it came to Harlow’s healing. I wanted more on-page rebuilding between her and Katerina, more visible processing, more emotional excavation. Some of that reconnection felt like it happened just slightly out of reach, and I would have loved to linger there longer.

That said, this book is still a whirlwind. It’s dramatic, passionate, fiercely loyal, and unapologetically intense.

And the ending? Exactly what I needed. Satisfying, emotionally rewarding, and a true payoff for everything they endured.

Even with my small critiques, I’m still so glad I read it. Katerina Moretti remains iconic, and this duology delivers a bold, emotionally charged mafia romance that fully commits to its power and devotion.

Duel 1st Person POV. 5🌟 5🌶️. 453 pages
8 Spicy Scenes

Did I stay up until 5.30am reading this book? Yes, yes I did! Do I regret my decision? Absolutely not! This was the perfect conclusion to Harlow and Caterina’s story and I didn’t want it to end!

Savage Queen picks up exactly where Merciless Queen ended and this entire book was a whirlwind of emotions. From a double kidnapping, to plot twists galore, so much torture, revenge and murder and a Savage Queen willing to burn the entire world to the ground to save her wife!

Honestly if you thought Merciless Queen was bad with the ability to tear you apart, then you need to prepare yourself for the sequel. God this book destroyed me, it had me sobbing, laughing, filled with anger and sobbing again. But it also brought warmth with it, it’s the perfect depiction of a woman so consumed with obsessive love and longing that she’d kill whoever got in her way to find the woman she loves, and another that has been through more than any one person should be able to handle and yet she fights and claws her way through her healing journey.

Also props to C.L Smoke for changing it up and not depicting graphic on page SA, but still writing the story in a way that showed the inner turmoil and aftermath of fighting to survive and would draw such a visceral reaction from readers (I cried a lot at this book). If you can handle the darkness and emotional turmoil of the Savage Queen then I would highly recommend reading the entire duet, you will not be disappointed!

Great story overall but it desperately needs better editing

I gave this book 4 stars because it truly does have great potential but in its current state, the editing makes it 3 stars, at best. This author always sucks me in with her story telling but the poor editing is, at points, too distracting to appreciate the story being told. Grammar, sentence structure, wrong word choice litters this book and drags down the overall quality. I love Harlow and Cat’s story and I even love how dark and deranged this book gets at points but it needs an overhaul of editing to make it the 5 star book it has the potential to be. I’ll continue to read this author’s work but I truly hope her next body of work is given the quality editing it deserves.

Needed Editing

This was a good story and a good follow up to the first book, but it really needed editing down. It was extremely repetitive and could have easily been 100+ pages shorter without taking away from the story. I ended up skimming entire chapters because of it. Which was also weird because the pacing felt super fast and I felt like some plot points really should have been expanded. Still worth a read if you enjoyed the first one.

Holy. Fuck. You guys are not ready for the insane rollercoaster that this book is. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to murder people, and you'll swoon (because c'mon. Cat's a simp for Harlow). I loved every second of reading this, and I can't fucking wait for more of you guys to get it too.
