Parker Williamson has a dream to win back his lost property which had been allegedly seized by his uncle, George Williamson, a few years ago. But besides this dream, a nightmare troubles his night's slumber quite often. In his nightmare, he sees two kids playfully drowning a ten month old baby in the swimming pool. Parker believes this nightmare to be one of his childhood memories but his father, Stanford Williamson, persistently denies.
Meanwhile, this frightening nightmare is finding shreds of evidence of reality. New enemies have emerged all of whom have their own motives to want Parker dead. On the fateful day, when Parker is on his way to the courthouse to fight his dream case against his uncle, he meets with a major road accident.
Half Life is a story of betrayal, vengeance, and family secrets, with twists that will keep surprising you till the very end.
M H Rahman is an Indian author popularly known for his best-selling debut novel, Half Life. He is the creator/writer of the popular fan-fiction of the US TV series, The Vampire Diaries. And he owns an artist management agency called Bombay Dreams. He currently lives and works in England.
I was fed up of reading books by indian authors which mostly include college romances,IITs and IIMs,skimpy girls and lusty guys drowning their college woes in booze and all the CBs and Durjoy Dutta books and HALF LIFE was a welcome change. What can I say about this book? It had an interesting premise, a plethora of surprises, cloak and dagger espionage,a blowout of an ending. This is one of those books which kept me wide awake deep into the night with anxiety and left my mind speculating as to how exactly it would end! Yes, I did read it from cover to cover. At times I was like- "How?", "No, that can't be!", "This woman just did that and she is doing this now?" ,"this is absolutely disgusting". I even had many "What the hell is going on?" moments. That is a good thing while reading a suspense thriller, isn't it? It left me bewildered and trying to digest the super exciting twists to the story. This may sound like a spoiler alert but let me tell anyone who wants to read this book that no character in this book can be trusted. Yeah, not even the protagonist. About the author's writing style, I would say typical Sheldon's. I don't mean to say he copies Sheldon's style or anything. Its just that like sheldon, he sure has the touch which never ceases to amaze you. It is clearly evident that the writer is a great fan of Sheldon as the book has been dedicated to him.
I have already poured out all the feelings I had about the book which have been hollering to come out since the day I finished the book. Both the story and the characters seemed very real and I loved Roselyn. My only problem was the ending. I know the author wanted to create a surprising ending where like, everything halts and you suddenly realize the story is over but I think he could have done it better. Overall, 5 stars.
Lastly, I think Mr. Rahman has great potential in becoming one of the most famous authors in India. Please do keep writing more such books and spare us the pain of all those blooywood drama type stories as we don't usually get novels of this genre in India.
P.S- I really want this book turned into a bollywood suspense film. If nobody makes it, I will :P
Half Life is an amazing book in terms of the story, narration and flow. It is not the conventional love story or the conventional suspense thriller or the conventional anything. The way the book has been written can easily lead to a blockbuster movie. The young author has done an incredible job and I am waiting eagerly for his next book to come up.
*Note: A copy of this book was provided to me by the author in return for an HONEST review.
I want you guys to know that I can rate a book very poorly and I won't care at ALL about what the author would say. But, this was a case in which I REALLY liked/loved this book.
This book is the masterpiece (ironically, the DEBUT) of M. H. Rahman. In fact, this is NOT a book. This is a SUPER-HIT Hollywood movie with the story written by an Indian. How could you even think of this story, huh?! Did God come specially to your bedside, and whisper this plot to you? I was swimming inside this book when it surrounded me by the clouds of my imagination.
**NO SPOILERS ** This story is about a man named Parker Williamson, who gets nightmares of two kids drowning a ten month old baby in the swimming pool. He believes that this nightmare really occurred during his childhood, but his dad (Stanford Williamson) denies. Also, he desires to win back a palace which his uncle (George Williamson) seized allegedly.
The first half of this book has BEAUTIFULLY-Written (not erotica) romance, which pulls you inside... You wouldn't want to stop until you finish reading. While reading it, I was sighing, I was awe-stuck and I changed positions! It cannot be described in words, how amazing the experience of reading this book was. When you are halfway through, your jaw would be lying on the floor! The last part of the book/the CLIMAX reveals all mysteries, but not all at once, because an appreciable part of them have been revealed previously and gradually.
CONCLUSION: READ IT! Thank me later for suggesting it. ;) Book Review by -
Half Life –MH Rahman Dreams are an inevitable part of any human being. And what happens when a dream turns to be night mare. Half Life by MH Rahman begins with such a nightmare by the protagonist, Parker Williamson. Half Life is a thriller based in UK. The novel travels entirely through Parker Williamson. It is a sure fact that the title of the novel is a bit confusing or may make you wonder why is the novel titled Half Life. Does the novel and its title really make any sense? But then the answer to this is explained in the novel and the novel is definitely a must read.

Last n not the least HALF LIFE is awesome..........
i liked the book. the main part which i liked was the suspense as to whose life was sacrificed so that the hero gets his answers back.i can say it as a mini sidney sheldon's creation.
There is seldom a debut author who strikes you as someone so brilliant that you vow to read each and every one of his future works. Thus, it is not always that you come across a writer as brilliant and as talented as the young M.H. Rahman. The last time I had the privilege of coming across one was when I read Delhi at Dark written by Ram Vignesh. This book was another big surprise element in my kitty of latest reads this year.
The book is about the story of a guy Parker Williamson who once had everything in life that one can ever hope for. But as fate would have it, Parker’s dad Stanford Williamson’s huge property got seized by his treacherous brother who had malicious and evil intentions of his own. Thus, Parker despite of being the sole heir to such a huge estate was rendered moneyless by his wicked uncle. Parker now grown up and educated vows to take revenge and win back the entire property which was seized by his uncle. During his quest, he meets Nyah and Rose, two ladies who will change the course of his life – one for good and the other for bad.
But Parker is unaware of the unseen dangers lurking in the corner. Who is after Parker’s life and property? Is Uncle George Williamson the only enemy he currently has? What role do Nyah and Rose have to play? Will Parker succeed in his dream of winning back his father’s lost property from the clutches of his evil uncle? What will happen to his love? Read about the interesting story of Parker and his love Nyah and wife Rose in this exciting new book today.
The author writes surprisingly well for a debut author and that too at just twenty three years of age. I liked the plot of the book. The way the various subplots came together and formed the complete picture in the end was just awesome. The narration style was also fast paced and quite interesting. To top it all, the characters too were equally amusing – some devious and conniving and some so adorable they will make your heart melt. The book has the most unanticipated end and unlike many other books written by debut authors, this one will keep you guessing right till the end. In addition to all the scheming-plotting, and the high paced action, the book has unexpected emotional twists at major turning points and that is something which makes Mr. Rahman one of my highly recommended debut authors.
So, my judgment – don’t go by the unappealing cover or the modest title for this is definitely the book you will want to add to your recent reads. I, thus, rate the book four out of five stars and recommend it to all my readers.
The pace of the story is perfect and the plot is arousing and will definitely keep the readers on their toes. It’s nor entirely a love story neither a thriller completely. This book is a perfect blend of emotions, love, thriller, rage, trust, pain and vengeance. The descriptions are so perfect that you can actually imagine each and every scene in front of your eyes. The length of the book is just perfect and the readers will be forced to turn pages one after another. For me the best part about this book is that the story is constantly progressing with twist and turns. There was NO LOW POINT in the story.
The plot of the novel is amazing, it arouse the curiosity as one go on reading till the very last page. It has got ‘thrill’ which binds you, ‘supernatural ’ and ‘horror’ that entertains you & thumps your heart beat, ‘romance’ that takes you to the aroma of true love.
The chapters are very descriptive as if you are visualizing everything while reading. The characters and dialogue delivering is awesome and the ‘climax’ is wonderfully written where all characters show up & mysteries gets solved.
A MUST… READ novel & my best wishes to M H Rahman.
Since the story jumps right into action as the book starts, I finished reading it in a single sitting (in just a little under two hours!) I especially liked the plot, and it kept me guessing till the end. Barring a few 'Really?! That's so obvious!' moments and a couple of grammatical mistakes here and there, I would say that the book makes for a fairly decent 'quick-read'. I would definitely recommend it to my friends!
Half Life, is one of the best books I ever read. The introduction of Heroine is the one which made me spellbound. The story has got no vulgarity or it is not stretched. I think the author has maintained the professionality in writing. Though it got released almost at the same time Chetan has released his Half Girlfriend, Half Life has outbeaten it. I really wish M H Rahman all the very best and keep going.
I won this book in Good reads first reads give away. I thoroughly enjoyed it and not once did it let my mind wander. It is a trend breaking, non conventional book with a perfect pace and an arousing plot. I am eagerly waiting for his future novels.
MH Rahman is un-paralleled when it comes to all his contemporaries. HALF LIFE is not the conventional love story or the conventional suspense thriller or the conventional anything. The way the book has been written can easily lead to a blockbuster movie.
What I most loved about this book is time-travel. The book beautifully jumps from present to past and from dreams to reality. Very few authors can achieve perfection in this niche and at his very first attempt. Rahman has been PERFECT. I urge everyone to read it and I vow to read all his books in future.
