About Me I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.
I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.

This sixth book in the ‘Scent of a Mate’ series is just as intense as the previous one. While the villain is different from Alpha Aldo (since that bast*rd has now finally been dealt with), he is a worthy successor – if there is such a thing for a villain. He could well be related, but the interesting thing about this series is that all of Aldo’s sons are extremely decent people. One of them, Sawney, is a main character in this story and his ability to claim his mate has been impacted by all the evil machinations going on and the tensions between various prides. The other man is Ricky, and he has suffered tremendously from both the six-year separation and the abuse he has been subjected to by various people. As a consequence, this story is very emotional to the point of being heartbreaking, suspenseful, and dramatic.
Sawney is a pack enforcer, a strong beta, and has known who his mate is for six years. But Ricky lives in a different pride, one that is much more traditional and does not “allow” same-sex matings. Sawney has been biding his time, and with Alpha Aldo out of the way, he is making plans to have his mate join him. When he gets a call from Ricky’s sister about exactly how untenable the situation has become for Ricky in the last six months, Sawney refuses to wait any longer and makes the trip to free Rickey. But things do not go as expected, and Sawney is soon in more trouble than he can deal with.
Ricky’s life has been hell for years, ever since his mother died. His father pushed him away into a separate house; he was allowed to work, but nothing much else. Six months ago that changed when his father withdrew his protection, and everyone was suddenly allowed to beat him up outside his home. Ricky was no longer able to leave without risking serious injury, and would not have survived if his twin sister hadn’t taken care of the basics like groceries. He dreams of Sawney coming to claim him, and when it happens, Ricky couldn’t be happier. Except his father won’t accept him leaving, and Ricky is soon in more trouble than ever before. Having been claimed by Sawyer makes a big difference though, and Ricky slowly comes out of his shell.
If you like to see the underdog gain self-confidence and learn to stand up for himself, if you’re up for quite a few twists and revelations, and if you’re looking for an emotionally intense read that is as suspenseful as it is hot, then you will probably like this novella.

I was very curious to read this sixth book in Stormy Glenn's 'Scent of a Mate' series. I knew very little about Sawney, other than he was another of Aldo's bastard sons. Sawney has been present in previous works, but no focus on him, so I was very interested to get a feel for him. So to speak. *grins*
I liked Sawney right off the bat. He's a typical strong lion shifter who is possessive and an enforcer for his brother, his alpha, but his gentleness, his patience, his kindness, and his love for Ricky was quite lovely to see. Of course I adored Ricky. Y'all know I've got a huge soft spot for an abused omega. I just wanted to wrap him up.
Much like Hugh, Boone, Simon, Otto, Sawney, Tres, Trevor, and Reece's father, Aldo the epic piece of crap, Alpha Felix de Luca is from the same mold. Ricky is his only son and instead of being proud to have an omega, he's alienated and abused him his whole life, allowing other members of the pack to do so as well. I wanted to hurt him. I got a little bloodthirsty about it, too. You can imagine Felix's response when Sawney comes and takes Ricky away. He sends his enforcers and they bring Ricky back, leaving Sawney, Boston and Harper in a flipped over SUV in a ravine. Yikes!
But, all is not as it seems in the de Luca pride, something that Ricky discovers. It appears Felix's second-in-command has truly been in charge of the pack for a long time, using Felix's children against him to get his compliance. When Sawney and his cavalry come to take Ricky back, one of the few loyal members left to Felix lets them know the situation. I just wanted Ricky back with Sawney and everyone safe and happy.
A wonderful ending, with a little twist that I might have seen coming, but it was still a great way to leave Sawney and Ricky.

Summary:
Ricky's life since his mother died was one of isolation, deprivation, and abuse from the members of his pack. If it wasn't for the support and help from his sister Maria he would have given up. Ricky only had the memories of his mate Sawney to give him hope ,but that wasn't enough anymore. Sawney's every move was to make his pack safe enough so he could claim Ricky until Maria told him to get Ricky before it was too late. It was inconceivable how Ricky was attacked anytime he just stepped out of his house , so when Sawney rescued him his panic he felt when he realized he was not in his home was understandable. The caring that Sawney gave to Ricky made him realize that he was not only loved by Sawney but needed and that gave him the strength to fight for his life. The respect and depth of feelings between Ricky and Sawney was inspiring. Things are not always what they seem and there may be surprises ahead for both Sawney and Ricky. I for one can't wait to read other books in the Scent of A Mate series.

This somehow got lost in the TBR file, I read it in one sitting and loved it, Shawney and Ricky are devoted mates separated by bullies, this entire series is based on beating bullies in some shape or form. I love it!
