No one believes she deserves to be a rider. Except for him. But he may be her greatest threat of all.

Zaydah has dreamed her whole life of becoming a rider of the creatures in the sky. In a kingdom always at war, there’s no greater honor than joining their ranks. She and her best friend, Brev, have trained every day for the last ten years to earn their place and follow in their fathers’ footsteps.

In the Black Mountains, where the military sprawls over its hilltop base, not everyone remembers their fathers as heroes. The king has forbidden their last names to be spoken aloud. Enemies won’t forget the wrongs of decades past.

Zaydah and Brev vow to watch each other’s backs and do whatever they can to succeed. They’ve always been an unstoppable team, and neither of them can trust anyone.

But secrets thrive in the Black Mountains. Nothing can prepare Zaydah for what she’ll uncover, and everything could tear her and Brev apart, most of all, the prince and his unusual interest in Zaydah.

Perfect for fans of Fourth Wing and Fear the Flames.

Wings of Night ARC Team Copy
This is one of those lose track of time, can’t put it down once you get started books! Wonderfully written, keeps you wondering what is going to happen next – who is friend or foe stories. A strong FMC, Zaydah, shows grit and determination in everything she does. The MMC, Brevain, had me thinking he needs a good shaking. When I turned the page to learn that was the end I wanted to shout no, not yet! I generally like a little spice in the story line but can say I was not disappointed that it didn’t. Can’t wait for book 2 to come out.

Loved being on the ARC team for this book! It was a quick read with lots of world building and action. I will say I struggled to get into the book at first just due to the amount of information, HOWEVER, by the end, that information was very much needed. Once the action starts, it is hard to put down. I'm looking forward to book 2 release in January!

Wings of Night ARC Team copy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I love a good dragon or dragon cousin creature adjacent. This exceeded my expectations! The first half of the book was dedicated to world, plot and character building. Once the action started in the second half it never stopped! The FMC is strong. The MMC’s made me think twice or more. I love some good mysteriousness. I enjoyed the trials, aerial battles, tournament and found family. I am eagerly awaiting the release of book two in January 2026!

I was chosen as an arc reader for this amazing book! To me it read slightly like a novella with the short chapters but that was something that got me in trouble. I devoured this book in less than twelve hours! The quick pace and action packed into those short chapters sucked me in! I couldn’t put it down, the power and bravery in Zaydah was incredible, the tension and unknown connection between her and Aris was delicious! The moment of her eyes finally opened to see truly who Brevain was- was simply heart stopping. I am so looking forward to the second book in this series! I loved every moment I was able to spend within the world and among the characters.

I’ll be honest, I struggled at first with all the character names and keeping track of what everything meant in the key and pronouncing the names but thats all on my personal self. Once I hit about 30%, it all started to click and I was hooked. The story just kept getting better and I couldn’t put it down.
I was reading in the pickup line at my kids’ school because I had to know what happened next. I cooked dinner with my kindle propped while I  made jambalaya and read at the same time. That’s how good it was.
I loved it and I can’t wait for book 2. Come on January!

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Devoured this book! 4.75!! Got sucked into this world with the creatures and characters, waiting for the next installment as soon as I finished 3/4 of the book I knew I was hooked on the series.
I love Valentius, he has an ego the size of a cruise ship and doesn’t apologize for it. He is protective of Z so I’m curious what else he is aware of in the kingdom but has yet to let her know about or if their are more political games that he is going to break up with his climb to the top.
I want to know more about the story behind Brev and what new terrible decisions he is going to make or does he actually have a reason for his behavior/decisions because we are only getting Z’s POV which could be unreliable. Which side is the right side so many questions.
The connection between Prince Aris and Z is definitely worth knowing more about than the little sips we got in book one. I’m hopeful this is a storyline that will get more attention and maybe a little spice as the series develops.
The found family is a great support but am curious to see how Z’s mother responds or if she does get involved as the story progresses. Z’s relationships with her fellow Attllans especially her core group was nicely written and I enjoyed the banter amongst them cause you can’t be instant friends with everyone even Claudius is growing on me.
The action scenes were what propelled the second half of this book as well as the first half of trials and games to win a spot to be chosen, now that you’re in the world and you’re hooked you have to wait till January gets here…will definitely be a cold winter thankfully Z’s fitted with better attire for the journey ahead.

WOW! I absolutely DEVOURED this book!

There are dragon-esque creatures, trials, training, found family, a prince with a remarkable draw...the list goes on.

The world building was beautifully drawn throughout the entire book in a way that never overwhelmed the details. The characters were intriguing and loveable - Zeydah was strong, witty, and fierce, and Brev, well, I'd have some choice words for him!

The dragon-esque creatures played a pretty significant role in this book, which was refreshing.

Thank you to the author for the ARC opportunity! I'm honored to have been chosen. I absolutely can't wait for Book 2 to release!

As my first Ella Walker Henderson book that I have read I was not certain on what to expect other than dragons and riders and enemies to lovers. I however was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this very much. In my opinion there was some similarities to Fourth Wing such as the dragons and the choosing but I felt like that was pretty much it. Was it spicy, not really but it still a very good read.
I actually thought the storyline was more about the MFC and her struggles of making it to her lifelong goal as becoming an aero (dragon rider) much like her father was but as someone who has less financial means than the others she encounters on her way there. Regardless Zaydah and her lifelong best friend Brev do it together but they encounter growing pains in their relationship along the way and she has to learn to deal with the emotions of that as well as the stress of trying to carve out her place as well.
Along the way she meets others who become her new found family as well as someone who she is not sure what to make of.By the end I found myself hungering for more of this story and fortunately we will get the next book in the series as soon as January of 2026.

ARC review!!! I really enjoyed this book. I had a hard time putting it down especially once I got to the middle. The first half is mostly world building & meeting the characters. I absolutely loved the FMC & so glad that she was not made out as weak even to start. This book definitely gave me vibes of other books that I’ve read. No spice so if that’s what you’re looking for this may not be for you. I really loved the games & trials & found family dynamic. There is some great character development. I’m very excited to see where this story goes in the future!

4.25 ⭐️

I received this book as part of an ARC review, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It took me a little while to get into, as the beginning was a bit confusing but once I found my rhythm, the story completely drew me in—I ended up devouring it in one sitting. There’s no spice, which I typically enjoy in books, but it honestly suited this story perfectly. While I did find the plot somewhat predictable and had a sense early on of where it was heading, I’m still really excited to see how things develop in the next book.

As a huge dragon fan (though technically the creatures in this story are more like dragon cousins), I really appreciated that aspect. Some parts even gave me subtle Fourth Wing vibes, which made it all the more enjoyable.

I received an ARC version of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

WOW. JUST WOW. This is one of those books that you wish you could read for the first time all over again. As you walk down this journey with Zaydah the writing makes you feel like you’re experiencing everything, including all of her emotions, right by her side. With a dash of fourth wing and hunger games, this book is reminiscent of other favorites while being completely unique and weaving its own world and story. Zaydah’s complicated history joined with the relationships she attempts to navigate and build with others leads you to think hard about what it means to find a family and leave one behind. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book and for the inevitable sequel that releases in January!

I received this as an ARC and throughly enjoyed the story, while I would of loved more world building and deeper dives into the characters the story flows well, the creatures (more like cousins to dragons) have a lot of potential to really boast the story line as well. There was no spice for those wondering if there is but it didnt change the story in any way and if there is spice in the next books this one is setting it up to be 🔥. I am excited to see where the series goes!

I would like to thank Ella Walker Henderson for selecting me as an ARC reader. This was my first ARC read. It took me a surprising amount of time to get into this book, but once I did I enjoyed it. Overall 4.5/5 stars. I’m am excited to see what happens in book two and need to stop reading unfinished series!

Now for a more detailed review:

At first the writing perspective threw me off, it seemed to flip between being written in a past-tense and present tense, which was hard when trying to actively world build and go on the adventure with the FMC. This did get better and less noticeable over time, just in the beginning it was a bit distracting getting used to the writing style.

From the very beginning I disliked Brev and the way he viewed the world, treated the FMC and had a superiority complex. It made it difficult to get through about the first 120 pages, due to so much time spent with him and the FMCs thoughts being about him. The pacing was also relatively slow in the beginning so that did not help. But after the Choosing things started to get interesting! Based off the connection between the FMC and the prince and his creature I was fully expecting her to become a Dionys!

After things started to pick up I found this book hard to put down! I thoroughly enjoyed the bond she formed with her training group, and with the other initiates. I wish we would have gotten to see more of this bond grow. She didn’t have much for family and I love that she found new brothers.

The concept behind the three different creatures and thus military sections was really interesting and unique. It was a different twist on the usual dragon concept. The trials in order for them to become Aeros seemed a little rushed or almost too simple for how complex the actual military structure and world is. My favorite part was the mountain games, where we got to see them actually put to use the skills they had been training and see the different strengths of the characters. This is also where the FMC and prince really started to become more aware. Also, deepened my dislike of Brev, I swear every time he showed up on page I wanted to roll my eyes.

The plot twist at the end was interesting, I had guessed most of it due to hints dropped throughout, but not the full twist. I am curious to see how it will play out in the second book.

I do enjoy a good enemies to lovers, so I am excited to watch how this connection to the prince plays out. There was a lot of hostility in this book (Brev… is a narcissistic gaslighter) so I do hope we get to see the FMC actually be happy in the next book!

Highly recommend for fans of Fourth Wing, Hunger Games & Divergent.

This. Book. Was. AMAZING!!! It definitely has a slow burn book which I normally don’t like but was important for the story building… I’m going to try to sum it up without giving to much away…
From the very first page, Wings of Fate pulls you into a breathtaking world where destiny is written in the skies — and one young woman must decide whether to follow the path laid before her or forge her own.
The story follows Zaydah, a fiercely independent yet quietly uncertain heroine whose life changes the moment she learns that her bloodline is tied to an ancient prophecy and a power thought long forgotten. What begins as a struggle for survival quickly becomes a journey of self-discovery, sacrifice, and courage. As Zaydah’s connection to the winged creatures of legend deepens, so does her understanding that fate isn’t always as clear-cut as it seems — and that freedom often comes at a cost.
Henderson has created a world that feels both epic and intimate. The world-building is vivid and layered — ancient kingdoms, hidden magic, and political intrigue blend seamlessly with moments of personal reflection and emotional growth. The writing style is lush and cinematic, with lyrical descriptions that make you feel the wind beneath your wings and the heat of dragonfire at your back.
What truly sets Wings of Fate apart, though, is Zaydah herself. She’s not the flawless “chosen one” — she’s real, raw, and often doubting herself in ways that make her journey feel deeply human. Her growth from a girl burdened by expectations into a woman who claims her power is inspiring and empowering. The relationships she builds along the way — friendships, rivalries, and perhaps something more — add warmth and complexity to the high-stakes tension.
Beyond its fantasy elements, this book explores themes of identity, destiny, and freedom. It’s about learning to trust your instincts, facing your fears, and realizing that even when fate gives you wings, you decide how to use them.
By the end, I was left both satisfied and craving more — the mark of a truly great start to a fantasy series. Henderson delivers emotional depth, a strong female lead, and a world you’ll want to revisit again and again.
If you love stories like Fourth Wing, Throne of Glass, or The Priory of the Orange Tree, this one absolutely deserves a place on your TBR.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me — and I can’t wait to see where Zaydah’s wings take her next

Zaydah and Brev have grown up together depending on each other due to their similar backgrounds. Both of their names have been taboo due to what happened between their fathers and the Crown Prince before they died in battle. Growing up in the outskirts of Orinthia, the only goals the two have are to join the Aeros together, become Chrystha just like their parents, and make their names mean something again. This task becomes harder when no sponsor letters come for either of them. Deciding to make their own way just as it has always been for them, they go to Vulcanis for the Choosing determined to join the Chrystha ranks. Zaydah sees this as a chance to do good and show that she is worthy to be chosen while Brev only sees repression and the sponsors' money as a way of control. Once they promised that nothing would change and they would always stay together. However, their paths start to diverge and Zaydah is torn between the promises she made to herself and the one she made to Brev. Word of battle close to home has come which is going to force Zaydah to make a decision on which promises are worth breaking.

Ella Walker Henderson creates worlds that are just so easy to get lost in and characters that are captivating. Normally this author has main characters that are a bit older but this 18 year old is someone I want to read more about. She has grown up with a harsh reality of life already but wasn't ready for what is coming her way. She is torn between childhood promises and what she finds herself facing which doesn't quite fit what she planned for herself. And she embraces the changes, not fully realizing yet that her promises are still there but had to adapt. As she clutches onto the past and the familiar she is blinded by obvious signs in front of her. Which is something everyone is familiar with at times when approaching the new. I love her massive found family. They are all amazing and I want more of it, especially from group fourteen. They all see the giant red flag that Zaydah is willfully ignoring and try to be patient with her as she realizes it. I'm curious about the bond with the prince, what he knows of it, and what will happen between them. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

The Only Way Up Is Through: A Tense Military Fantasy with Dark Royalty

Ella Walker Henderson’s Wings of Night is a soaring start to a new fantasy series that blends rigorous military training with political intrigue and forbidden attraction. We begin by immediately connecting with Zaydah, whose lifelong aspiration to become a rider is threatened by historical disgrace. The world-building is immediate and palpable, creating a kingdom constantly at war where honor is earned in the skies. Zaydah and Brev are the perfect underdog pair, having trained for ten years only to face a hostile, secretive base in the Black Mountains where their fathers’ pasts make them targets. The initial chapters are defined by this uphill struggle and the absolute necessity of their mutual, unwavering trust.

Zaydah’s commitment to success is swiftly tested when she is forced to confront the pervasive suspicion and hostility from others at the base who question her worthiness. The conflicts are multifaceted, involving grueling physical hurdles and the persistent challenge of proving her merit despite her family name being banned. This is where the emotional core deepens, as the secrets thriving in the mountain base start to compromise the tight-knit unit of Zaydah and Brev, creating heartbreaking distance between the two best friends. 💔

The central conflict truly ignites with the unexpected appearance of the Prince, a character who is neither immediately lovable nor detestable, but intensely captivating due to his dangerous ambiguity. His unusual interest in Zaydah complicates everything, throwing a wrench into her plans and raising the question of loyalty versus leverage. The relationship is fraught with tension, a captivating blend of romance and profound risk. The author’s writing is excellent, making the characters feel raw and the stakes feel existential. The ending is brilliantly executed, providing a satisfactory resolution to Zaydah's primary quest while delivering a strong, emotionally impactful revelation that leaves the reader absolutely eager for the next chapter.

Thank you, Ella Walker Henderson, for the gifted copy of this book. I was happy to leave my honest opinion.

Wings of Night by Ella Walker Henderson

5/5 stars

If you enjoyed Forth Wing then you will love this book just as much. Wings of Night by Ella Walker Henderson gives the same vibes of Forth Wing but she incorporates her own twists and turns, like how rather than using the idea of dragons she’s using her own called creatures in the sky. They are considered to be ancestors of dragons and can do everything a dragon can do except breath fire. Broken into three different types you’ll read about the Dionys- they have blue scales that are hard and sharp, the Attilan- are white and covered in feathers, and the Chrystha - have black, leathery skin and their wings have thin membrane.

Brev and Zaydah dreamed their whole life of becoming a rider to the creatures in the sky, so they trained hard but leading up to the choosing ceremony and trials, they did not receive letter offering sponsorship but that didn’t stop them. Entering the black mountains where the military sprawls over the hilltop base, Zaydah and Brev were at a disadvantage compared to the others but they fought hard to show their skills. Believing in one another until it came time for them to pass through the trials and enter the choosing stage to see if they were worthy of being chosen.

Things did not turn out the way Zaydah or Brev hoped and both made promises that they struggled keep. Yet nothing could prepare them for what would be uncovered.

And the undeniable pull going on between Zaydah and the prince? This opens up a whole new can of worms!

I really enjoyed this book and I honestly cannot wait for the second book to come out! It ended on a cliff hanger but I can’t hate on Henderson doing that because it has left me excited and desperate to find out more! Highly recommend!

This one completely swept me away. I am giving it 4.75 out of 5 stars because it managed to feel both classic and brand new at the same time, with energy that never lets up.

The story follows Zaydah, a young woman determined to rise above the shame tied to her family name and claim her place among the elite sky riders. Her world is filled with towering heights, deadly creatures, and a war that threatens to tear everything apart. From the first chapter, her courage and stubborn will make her easy to root for. Then there is the mysterious rider who challenges her every step of the way. The chemistry and tension between them had me grinning, groaning, and holding my breath all at once.

The pacing is tight and well balanced. There are stretches of high energy where the danger hits fast, followed by moments of calm that let the emotion sink in. I never felt lost or dragged along; every scene had a purpose, whether to reveal more of Zaydah’s heart or the world she’s fighting for.

The worldbuilding is striking and detailed. The skies feel alive, the bond between riders and their creatures is rich, and the political intrigue grounding the story gives it real weight. I loved how the myths, rituals, and unspoken codes of the riders’ world unfold naturally through action rather than exposition. It feels like a lived-in world with layers still waiting to be explored.

Overall, Wings of Night is an exciting, emotional ride that perfectly balances danger, heart, and wonder. Ella Walker Henderson crafted a story that soars as high as its riders, and I am already eager to see what comes next in this series.

I want to start by thanking Ella Walker Henderson for choosing me to be an ARC reader for this book in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED this book SO MUCH!!!! The world-building was amazing and really drew me in to the story. I was rooting for Zaydah from the beginning. She was a strong FMC that dealt with her struggles in a way that only made me like her more. Her friendship with Brev and their close relationship was easy to understand, and I loved how that made their later difficulties the more poignant. I felt so bad for her every time he made her feel like she was letting him down. It was great to watch her stand up to him and hold her ground despite his attempts at manipulating her.

The relationships that she developed with her fellow trainees and initiates made this such an enjoyable read. I especially loved reading about her training group and how they pushed her to become better but also treated her like she was one of them. They worried about her and wanted the best for her. The almost sibling rivalry relationship with Claudius was also fun. There was so many good side characters that really added dimension to the story.

I am so excited to read the second book so I can find out more about the shield bond that she seems to have with Aris. I could feel the tension in every single interaction. The end was exciting, and I was practically yelling at the book in some parts. I thought it ended in a way that tied some things up but definitely left me wanting more! January can't come soon enough!

Ella Walker Henderson’s Wings of Night soars with heart, danger, and the fierce determination of a young woman caught between loyalty and destiny. Zaydah is a heroine you can’t help but root for — a girl whose dream of becoming an Aero (a legendary dragon rider) burns brighter than anything else in her life. But that dream comes with a cost.

From the start, we see the quiet tension between Zaydah and Brev, her best friend. Her mother’s words echo in her mind — don’t let him hold you back — and as Zaydah’s journey unfolds, that warning becomes heartbreakingly prophetic. To become the Aero she’s meant longed to be, she must break her promises and possibly the bonds of friendship.

The heart of the story ignites when Zaydah is chosen by a dragon — not just any dragon, but a grumpy, ancient creature who hasn’t taken a rider in all of his thirty years. Long before their official bonding, he sees in her the potential for greatness, for a partnership that could redefine what it means to be an Aero.

And then there’s the Crown Prince Aris — captain of the Dionys and member of the royal family who has erased Zaydah’s father’s name from history books. Their relationship crackles with tension and intrigue. They share a bond that defies easy explanation — something deeper, stranger, and more dangerous than either can admit. Is it fate? Magic? Or something born from the same fire that connects dragon and rider? The tension teased me just enough to keep the pages turning late into the night.

As Zaydah’s choices grow heavier, her sacrifices cut deeper. She’s forced to decide what kind of Aero she will become — one bound by loyalty or one forged by ambition. The result is a breathtaking story of power, loss, and self-discovery.

EWH left me with Zaydah heading north for three months of border patrol just waiting to see what challenges, betrayals, and revelations await her.

Wings of Night is a thrilling first flight into a world of dragons, duty, and the cost of greatness. If you love stories like Fourth Wing or The Serpent and the Wings of Night, this one deserves a top spot on your TBR.

If you love and are a fan of Fourth Wing and Hunger Games, this book is your next epic gripping fantasy read.

This book immediately drew me in and was such an immersive story. The author does a wonderful job with multiple character development and world building. Side note: there are A LOT of different character introductions and world building/setting that occurs during the first third of the book but once the action starts it doesn’t stop.

I would categorize this book as more fantasy than romance with a hint of a slow burn set up.
There is no spice, just a couple of kisses.

Zayduh the FMC has always wanted to follow in the footsteps of her father and become an Aero (dragon rider/fighter) and she will stop at nothing to make that dream a reality even if it means breaking tradition and forging that path in her own. Brev the MMC is the childhood friend who has always been there training with Zayduh and also determined to be Aero like his father despite his last name. Together they set off to make those dreams into a reality and discover that promises made must sometimes be broken for the greater good and those closest can do the most damage with poisonous words and seeds of doubt.
There are several unexpected turns with one major unexpected twist at the very end that had me rereading the page.

This is a wondrous first book setting up for an enthralling series that I cannot wait to continue.

Wings of Night definitely gave me Fourth Wing vibes when it came to the training, tournaments, and bonding with dragon-adjacent creatures. I am glad that Wings of Night is more of a fantasy than a romantasy, however, I did get some love triangle vibes from Brev and Prince Aris. I loved Zaydah and Elaria's friendship throughout the book (female friendships are so important when the majority of the book takes place in a man's environment). I felt a sense of betrayal towards the end and I feel that book 2 will have a lot more to it.

A quote that really stuck out to me:

"You will be great. I'll miss you. Carry me in your heart. I'll look forward to the day I see you again. But you will soar. You will be great like your father. He would be proud of you today."

The reason why this quote stuck out to me was that Zaydah did indeed go onto soar. I also feel that Zaydah is a great example FMC who keeps pushing forward no matter what obstacles are in her way and she won't be influenced by a man to make her dreams a reality.

Readers who I would recommend this book to are those who like Fourth Wing, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and other fantasy novels and series. Overall, I'd rate this book a 4/5. There is no spice in this book as it's a lot of build up to Zaydah's main goal throughout the book.

Thank you Ella for approving me to be a part of your ARC team. I can't wait to read book 2 when it comes out!

I could not put this book down but, honestly, that’s no surprise with any of Ella Walker Henderson’s books. She has such a magical way of transporting you straight into her world and buckling you in for a ride.

I absolutely loved this start to her new series. Did I mention it has dragons and dragon riders?! 🐉🔥 The FMC isn’t from nobility, which made me love her even more. Zaydah’s grit, heart, and determination to fight for what she wants are genuinely inspiring. The world-building is immersive yet easy to follow, making it the kind of book that kept me turning pages late into the night.

Romance isn’t the main focus in book one. This story is all about the heroine’s journey. 🌟 But there’s definitely some budding romantic potential, and I’m so excited to see where it leads in future books!

One of my favorite parts of this story (besides the dragons!) is the 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 element. I genuinely loved every side character. Group Fourteen (you’ll know exactly why once you read it 👀) and Elaria completely stole my heart. 💕

The good news is that Book 2, 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒆, releases on January 13, 2026, so we don’t have to wait long for the next book! 🎉

This book promised Fourth Wing vibes—and it definitely delivered! I’m a sucker for bonded creatures (dragons!) and a good military academy setting, and this story gave me both. I loved Zaydah’s friendships with Elaria and Captain Felix—her bond with him had such a warm father-daughter feel—and I’m really curious to see how things develop with Claudius. And Valentius! I’m obsessed with a grouchy older dragon who calls her “little one.” 🥹 Their bond is already so strong, and I can’t wait to see how it deepens.

❗️**Spoilers ahead!**❗️

Now let’s talk about the guys.

Brev: the red flags were waving from page one 🚩 He was controlling, jealous, and manipulative—it was clear he wasn’t good for her. I’m relieved Zaydah finally saw the truth, even if it took witnessing his betrayal to realize it. Still, I have a feeling he’s not done causing chaos in book two.

Prince Aris: I have so many questions about their bond. How is Zaydah supposed to be his “shield” when they both freeze every time their eyes meet? Is that temporary? Something they have to grow into? There’s definitely a spark between them, and I’m curious (and a little nervous) to see where it leads.

With the next book releasing soon, I’m so ready to dive back in and get answers to all of these lingering questions!

What a fantastic first book of a new series from Ella! Zaydah has dreamed and trained her whole life to become an Aero (dragon rider) but when no sponsor comes her and her friend Brev decide to forge their own back and make their way there for the choosing anyways. Zaydah is a young woman finding her own path and while she wants to follow in her father's footsteps, she also wants to be an Aero more than anything, so if it's in a different division so be it.

I absolutely loved Ella's take on the dragons and that they aren't mindless creatures but bonded to their riders with their own desires and ambitions. Valentius had me laughing at many points and his insights I am sure will help guide young Zaydah in future books. The new friends that she made were so refreshing and them being able to see the red flags but sticking with her still while she worked it out was absolutely fantastic to read. I appreciated that there was give and take but also that Zaydah isn't a fool and learned as the book went. I can't say enough for Group 14 too! The way they accepted her and trained with her just made my heart happy. This book had me laughing and also yelling at Zaydah as well, but that's the sign of an excellent book for me. I can't wait to see what we get into next.

First, let me say this: I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to ARC- read Wings Of Night by Ella Walker Henderson, and to be one of the first few to dive into this amazing book! Wings Of Night is a promising start to the Dark Sky series. First off, I really enjoyed the writing style—it's simple, clean, and highly engaging, making it a quick and enjoyable read.
The main female character, Zaydah, is definitely a standout. She's stubborn and knows what she wants, which is exactly what I look for in a strong female lead. However, the main male character, Brev, was a bit challenging for me. While I understand his rough background—a "shitty mom and a shitty life"—his attitude sometimes felt like too much, and his possessiveness over Zaydah was genuinely crazy at times.
While the beginning of Wings Of Night started a little slow for my liking, I'm glad I kept turning the pages because it absolutely got better! The world-building and plot truly ramp up, pulling you into the conflict.
So, would I recommend Wings Of Night to my fellow romantasy readers? YES, most definitely! It's a great package deal because it has a bit of everything: adventure, drama, action, and plenty of romance. I definitely recommend picking this one up!

I have read, and been enchanted by, each of Ella Walker Henderson's series. The Dark Sky series is no exception. I am already caught up in the character building, this new world of creatures and Aeros, and I hope there are many books included after Wings of Night.

Zaydah's story draws you in immediately. The dance between Brevain and Prince Aris adds that bit of spark and keeps Zaydah questioning if her future will play out like she has dreamed her whole life, or if her path lies elsewhere than with the Chrystha.

Being chosen by Valentius, an Attilan, drives the first wedge between Zaydah and Brevain, coming between their promise to look out for each other and follow in their fathers' footsteps as Chrystha Aeros.

Despite the unusual effect she and Prince Aris have on each other, her status as the daughter of a traitor causes him to immediately distrust her.

Vows will be tested, and secrets will threaten everything Zaydah has worked for. But with her newfound family of initiates, Zaydah might just find a new way forward and a future she never could have imagined.

4.5⭐️ ARC Review

Imagine this….

Fourth Wing, The Hunger Games, and House of Dragons had a love child…

That love child would be Wings of Night by Ella Walker Henderson.

This is a beautifully written story about found family, physical and emotional trials, and betrayal. The FMC Zaydah has to chose a different path than she expected, separating herself from a childhood situationship and taking her on a path where she finds real friends, support, and caring.

I loved the unique take on dragons. They are not your stereotypical dragons but rather they are called creatures and are their scales are more feathery! More like a dragon relative and the structure between the different types of creatures was interesting!!!

With a strong, resilient, independent, brave FMC like Zaydah, the tension between her and the royals (and I mean a very specific royal 😉) you bet I’m ready to have the next book in hand and have already downloaded the novella Royal Wings to tide me over till the next book comes out!!

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read your work!!!

This is such a wonderful story. It’s impossible not to be drawn in and completely enthralled by it.
Ella’s storytelling and worldbuilding are addictive; she paints such a vivid world that we can clearly see it in our minds and stay glued to the pages until the very last word.
I absolutely loved it all.

Zaydah, the main female lead, was strong, loyal, fierce, and an incredible force of nature. I had mixed feelings toward the male main character at first, but they became much clearer as the story developed.
As we’re introduced to several secondary characters, we realize that each one is special in their own way, and we grow fond of all of them. I loved their interactions, their support for one another, and their brotherly love.

There’s mystery and intrigue, friendship and trust gained, along with attraction, jealousy, and even betrayal. Some twists truly caught me by surprise.

I need to know what happens next to these characters and see the choices Zaydah makes for her future, so I’ll definitely be bingeing the next book as soon as I can!

Better than Fourth Wing!

The relationships are tangible and 100% plausible. The characters developed really well both personally and together.

The world building was magical and beautiful. Everything the character’s choices and what they went through especially within the timeframe was believable.

I was so sucked in I didn’t want to leave, the ending of the book came way too soon. I cannot wait for book 2’s release.

Kaydah, FMC, 18yo, wants more from life, wants to follow in fathers footsteps.

Brev: MC, town outcast, possessive friend/ grew up with Kaydah, also wishes to follow in fathers footsteps

Not everything is as it seems, many mysteries surround both Kaydah and Brev.

I absolutely love Group Fourteen, they are absolutely amazing, and the big brothers I always wanted.

Key points in no particular order:
- Dragons & dragon riders
- Trials and Games
- Mysteries
- Found family
- War torn
- differing paths
- no spice, shared kisses
- Traitors everywhere
