Chicago Mobs: Gangster Stones: The Story Behind the History

Rate this book
From the streets of Woodlawn to the towers of Henry Horner, the story of the Gangster Stones is one of power, loyalty, and survival.

Formed in the 1960s under Melvin Mackay, the Gangster Stones grew into one of the largest Black P. Stone factions in Chicago. Led by young visionaries like Daryl “Moose Man” Abney, they carved their way into Roseland and the West Side, building a feared empire inside the Henry Horner projects. Their rise was marked by discipline, ruthless expansion, and a drug trade that fueled their dominance.

But with power came blood. Leaders like Henry “June Bug” Brown pushed the Stones into darker territory, earning a reputation for cruelty that ended in prison walls. As Horner fell to demolition, the Stones spread nationwide, their name surviving in prisons and neighborhoods far beyond Chicago.
