The Call of the Wild

Rate this book
When men find gold in the frozen north of Canada, they need dogs - big, strong dogs to pull the sledges on the long journeys to and from the gold mines. Buck is stolen from his home in the south and sold as a sledge-dog. He has to learn a new way of life - how to work in harness, how to stay alive in the ice and the snow... and how to fight. Because when a dog falls down in a fight, he never gets up again.

This book is good for learning English, and the story is enteresting. But I think it is too short, there were some chapter, which wasn't clear enough for me. Maybe I will buy the original book.

This short adventure novel about a strong sled dog, called Buck, was extraordinary. In the Goldrush era in the US and Canada, people needed a lot of dogs to carry their luggage or letters, and to search for gold. Buck was forced to work as a sled dog. Even though he faced many harsh situations in the cold, how he transformed from a pet at Mr.Miller's house to the head of a wolf pack was astonishing. In every scene, the author articulated the dog’s feelings quite well and the book allowed me to see the world from an animal's point of view.
Understandably, "the call of the wild" is known as one of the best world literature!

I have always so much love and affection for wolves. I feel and will always believe that they are so majestic and unique. Within the wolves hearts, the call of the wild resides.
ياريت لو إني أكون ذئبة او اقل شي اعيش مع الذئاب البرية. روح البرية ونداء البرية تكمن داخل أعماق قلوب الذئاب وفي عواءهم في جوف ليالي الشتاء.

The Call of the Wild :
But something was changing in Buck.
He had lived in the north a long time now, and he was almost a wild dog. His dreams were filled with other animals - dogs, half-wolves, and wild wolves. They seemed to call him into the forest, and sometimes buck wanted to leave the fire and answer the call.
The call of the wild was calling Buck it was within the forest where there was a wolf howling. Finally, the wild dog Buck and the wolf became friends and the call of the wild was loud in Buck's ears. And when the wolves moved on, back into the forest, Buck ran with them, side by side.
Buck now is never alone. In the long winter nights, he runs at the head of the wolf pack through the moonlight, calling into the night with them, singing a song from a younger wold.

4.strange hairy man
I didn't know hairy means a person who has lots of hair.
5.This story is about life of a dog. He experienced lots of kind of life. Rich man's dog, sledge dog, work for terrible family and explore with professional explorer. While his experiences, he learned lots of things. However, his final master, professional explorer was killed by Indian, and then he become wild dog. After that, every summer he came to the place which his master was dead and bark. His life was very interesting and I learned there are people who treat animals as tools and people who treat them as their family. I'd like to be latter one.

4."Suddenly, the bravest wolf jumped at Buck. In a second, Buck had bitten, and then stood still again. The wolf was dead behind him. Three more wolves jumped at him, and were killed."
This book has a lot of fight scenes of dogs or wolves, so descriptions of this book was little violent for me. On the other hand, from another point of view, these descriptions have reality and were little interestiong for me.

5.In this book, a main character is a dog and the dog's name is Buck. Buck was sold by people and used as sledge dog in snowy place. Buck grew up and learned a lot of thing through living people and dogs at there, but Buck recovered animal instinct and went back forests.

4 I like the passage ” Buck licked his hand.” bacause Buck worked very hard with being hit with a whip as a sledge dog, but this was first time that Buck felt love.
5 Buying and selling animals is ordinary, but it is as a pet. Actually, people, especially children, are bought and sold. They can't choose the people who buy them. This is one of problems. I hope that this problem resolve and all lives are loved and become happy.

4. Q; Have you ever seen a wolf?
A; I have never seen him. I don’t want to see him because he’ll kill people.
5. This book is good for me but sometimes content is not good. A lot of dogs are injured by violence. At last, the dog was happy to see his host. I like this book. I was moved by this book.

Another book I want to testread for my English students.

A bit more difficult and probably not suitable for everbody, but very good for animal lovers and kids who like to read about nature and adventures.

Wanted to reread this classic we read in early school days. I was struck by the simplicity of the writing style and wonder how it is considered a classic.
