Going into the sequel, I wanted to give this story a fair chance—but I seriously considered DNFing it more than once. I ended up skipping all spicy scenes and skimming some portions, which is never a great sign.
Our FMC doubles down on what already frustrated me before: she reframes an abusive relationship as somehow her fault and, even more troubling, feels empowered by it. This isn’t explored critically or thoughtfully—it’s simply presented and moved past. Despite all that supposed trauma and “growth,” she continues to drool over every attractive male in sight, as if nothing has changed at all.
The long-teased mate bond finally clicks into place, retroactively explaining the inexplicable obsession of the 2,000-year-old MMC. Unfortunately, that revelation doesn’t deepen their relationship so much as excuse it. On top of that, she turns out to be a particularly delicious meal for his newly awakened vampire side—because apparently objectification needed another layer.
To the book’s credit, the actual plot and action finally gain momentum in the last twenty percent. Mercifully, this stretch is free of spice and of the FMC contemplating male anatomy in wildly inappropriate situations. Those final chapters reminded me that there is an interesting story buried in here.
This is for you if you like
• Mate bonds that explain away all questionable attraction and power imbalance
• FMCs who internalize abuse without narrative pushback
• Heavy spice every other chapter
This is not for you if you
• Expect meaningful character development in a sequel
• Have little patience for FMCs who confuse self-blame with empowerment
• Want tension and plot progression without constant sexual distraction
By the end, I wasn’t angry—I was just tired. While the closing chapters show promise, they arrive far too late to redeem the experience. I’m honestly undecided whether I have the stamina for a third installment.

Unique, Addictive, and Suspensful
"A Realm of Blood: Book Two of The Arcane Series" is just as binge-worthy as book one. This storyline is truly unique, addictive, and suspenseful, while the characters are complex and fascinating.

Book 2 of The Arcane Gods Series was just as addicting as book one. Aron is a great book boyfriend and the challenges he faces in this book made me very anxious! I was on the edge of my seat the entire book! I really enjoy where this story is going and can't wait to see what happens next!!
