4.5 Paige and Gannon Stars
Well, I think I now have a newfound appreciation for hot guys with tool belts - Gannon King stole a little bit of my heart. He's my kind of hero - alpha , completely hooked on his woman , loyal and good hearted with the ability to well and truly screw things up but still have you cheering for him and willing the heroine to take him back.
Gannon King and his twin sister , Cat , are the faces of a T.V. network's prime show about revamping houses for people who are in a difficult or challenging life situation. They swoop in and work their magic and helping them do that is a whole team of people that make for some fascinating secondary characters and our heroine , Paige St James. Paige is the person on set who keeps everything moving and flowing. She troubleshoots and organises and is always cool and calm under pressure. This story does a great deal to highlight the way women are treated with a huge amount of inequality and I understood why Paige felt she had to constantly maintain a certain image and persona. I loved the juxtaposition of her character and the vile OW , Meeghan Traxx.
Gannon and Paige are each others nemesis and are total opposites. Gannon is all fire, heat and doesn't care who he annoys when he speaks his mind. He tells it like it is and doesn't sugarcoat anything. Paige is cool and calm , never losing her temper , always being professional and she came across as quite aloof at times.
Think Gannon - think red hot passion. Think Paige - think ice queen. But, you know, just know , that she is bubbling under the surface.
I loved how Gannon got her to let go and we got to see the fun, passionate Paige. When everything hit the proverbial fan I felt sorry for him. He was trying so hard to earn her forgiveness and she really did make him work for it. These two compliment each other and it really is a case of opposites attract. Paige has a sad backstory and it's easy to see why she is so reserved and almost detached sometimes. It takes a little longer to warm up to Paige but I really did appreciate her dry sense of humour and she is lovely underneath her frosty exterior. Her thoughts cracked me up - this little inner thought with heartfelt cursing is a gem...
“Now’s not a great time.”
Yeah, now was not a great time. Now was a clusterfuck, the fuckiest clusterfuck in the history of clusterfuckery. And her career, her reputation, were at the center.
This book has one of the loveliest endings I have ever read. The point where Gannon reflects on their relationship....oh my goodness....MY HEART! I was a little teary eyed and swoony at that point.
Mr King could easily be King of my Kindle heart...
She eyed him. “Look at you being accommodating.”
“I can be accommodating. Charming, too. Handsome, strong, fairly intelligent, high tolerance for pain, I can hold my liquor, and I make a decent red sauce.” He counted off his attributes.
HEA? Yes *swoons*
Cheating? No
