When Brenda Sharpe stumbles upon a sizable collection of horrific images and videos on her husband’s computer, her entire existence implodes.
Surely it must be a mistake, just some freak virus that has infected his computer? Because she cannot believe that her husband could be capable of such depravity, of such evil.
And yet. There it is.
It’s not like he has given her any reason to doubt him. He is a good father to their seven-year-old daughter. He would die before he harmed a hair on her head.
Wouldn’t he?
But there is something deeply wrong with her husband. Deeply wrong on the most fundamental level.
Brenda is about to find out quite how wrong he really is...
This is extreme horror and contains scenes some readers may find upsetting.
Brutal, cutting and sharp. Yes, of course this covers a sensitive topic but the ending was so just and raw than it almost made it worth reading those parts that no parent wants to read. There are no explicitly detailed scenes here but there are hints to it, and little fragments, so if you are sensitive to CSA topics then this is not for you.
Short and intense, heavy subject matter. A parent’s worst nightmare. Everything is kind of up to assumption in the story. I’m let with my mind reeling in the, “What ifs.” 😆 Well written though.
So, the bouncing around a la Gone Girl didnt work here. All it did was make things more confusing. Im sure that they thought there was a big reveal somewhere, but that got left out. Instead, it just came across as a woman with a psychological disorder obsessing about her husband. Its also very possible that she imagined the pictures.
All in all, I found myself scratching my head and wondering when something besides the wife's insistence that he did something became clearer. There was literally zero evidence, other than what she claims to have found.
I cant help but feel as though this was a therapeutic story to help get out frustrations with something happening in the author's personal life. Either that or their index cards with the summary got mixed up and some were lost.
This book has such an awful subject matter and some of the scenes were particularly hard to read. However I think Sam West did well writing on this matter without sensationalising. Still very difficult as a parent to read, so if CA is a trigger for you this one is certainly not for you.
I did feel like the ending was very abrupt, even though it was wrapped up as to whether he was guilty or innocent with the little smirk, i just wish we just had an Epilogue of the police cars picking him up outside the school etc. I'm one of that's readers who really likes a wrapped up ending.
Brenda sees evidence that her husband is a serial pedophile and killer. She attacks him. He denies. Is he guilty? What about their common child. The book had its moments of suspense but for a Sam West novel it was a bit too tame and the ending not to my liking. Overall okay, the hype about the book definitely overrated. Good that it was a quick read. For fans of the author!
Hmm was hardly any gore to be honest however it was a sad revenge story, I do wish it was a bit longer I feel there could have been a couple more chapters of the aftermath and what happened
This novella reminds me a lot of Stephen King's "A Perfect Marriage" but more messed up. When a woman discovers her longtime husband is a pedophile, she takes matters in her own hands and confronts her hubs with her suspicions (there are also knives involved).
Wow, going into this I just saw the title and was interested. I loved how short it was but it really packed a punch and actually felt like a fully fleshed out book, usually with shorter books I am left wanting more but nope this was perfect in that sense.
This was a bit of a strange read. It focuses on revenge from the wife's POV after finding vile videos and images on her husbands computer of children, she sets out her plan to make sure he goes down for it and suffers. A very short read! Would have loved to seen the aftermath of what happened
