I am a huge fan of R.D. Lawrence's books, having only discovered him in the last year. This book was a little different than his others, in that it was written about his summer living on a boat (the Stella Maris) traveling up the coast from Washington State to Alaska.

His descriptions of the waves, the wind and sun, the storms, and all the varied wildlife he sees made me feel I was right there on the boat. The times when he anchored the boat in hidden inlets and explored were the best parts - especially the story of his making friends with an orca.

There were funny and sad stories too - but I'll leave those to be discovered by the reader. R.D. Lawrence had such love of nature and animals, such deep knowledge of biology and such a wonderful way with words, I highly recommend this book. And be sure to look up some of his other books. He's quickly become one of my very favorite authors.
