This book differs from every other book on a psychic subject, in that it consists primarily of literature. The problem is how this literature, displaying such know-ledge, genius, versatility of literary expression, philosophic depth, and piercing wit, could have originated, beginning suddenly one day, in the mind of a 31-year old housewife with an 8th grade education. Where did it come from?!
I've heard of works of literature being published posthumously, but this is the first time I've read work that was written posthumously. Without a doubt the best poetry I've ever read that was written by a dead person!
In the early 20th century a middle class woman in St. Louis woman channelled stories, poetry, and novels from Patience Worth. Patience Worth was a 17th century Purtian woman living in England who immigrated to the US and was killed by Indians...or so the story goes.
The story of Patience Worth is certainly bizarre, but the poetry is outstanding.
I want to read the novel, The Sorry Tale, also written posthumously by Patience Worth, but I'm not sure I'm ready to do so right now. I understand it is a challenging read. I will add it to my To Read list.
