Fascinated Prayer: 12 Steps to Transform Your Prayer Life: Finally Experience, Enjoy and Be Captivated by God by Jeff Mootz is a tool to help you develop an intimate prayer life with God. Mootz offers twelve steps that can deepen our walk with God.
In the first couple of chapters, Mootz explains from the Scripture God’s great love and desire for us to draw near to Him. The next few chapters deal with approaches we can take to add meaning and intimacy to our prayer lives, such as worship, meditation, planning our prayers, listing our prayer requests, and others. I found the reasons for making a list compelling, but I thought he left out the most important reason. A friend of mine added one of my requests to her list. When those prayers are answered, she will place the date of its answer beside the request to remind her of God’s faithfulness.
The final section of the book deals with overcoming obstacles. His chapter on overcoming distractions was especially helpful to me. Someone else might find the chapter on overcoming shame to be especially moving.
I’m a little uneasy with Mootz’s use of the imagination in the book. Though I never tried imagining myself looking into Jesus’s eyes to feel forgiven, I did find I John 1:9 helpful. That sense of forgiveness was based on the character of God and His promise rather than how well I imagined the eyes of Jesus. I also liked his stance on repenting of our sins.
This book can prove efficacious in improving someone’s prayer life. Mootz designed it to be a 12-week course on prayer so that the reader will have time to add each chapter’s practices to his life. You can also take a video course, use a workbook, or receive online coaching to help you. I would recommend the book to new believers or to those whose prayer life has become stale or has always been unsatisfying.

A much needed breath of fresh air in a prayer book! This book helped me rediscover God's love for me through a daily friendship of prayer and bible reading. As a longtime believer, my prayer life needed to be revived in a way that was authentic, real, and full of grace. Jeff's prayer book is 12-weeks of falling in love with God all over again with practical steps, genuine stories, and a lot of love.

Having had an opportunity to read an advanced copy, I can say without a doubt this book by Jeff provides a practical step by step guide to prayer and intimacy with the Lord. This book is good for those who are just starting their prayer walk, Christ followers who are returning to prayer. This book also provides nuggets of gold for seasoned prayer vets. I highly recommend to all.
