Welcome to Hollowbrook Farm! When Óisin and Áine's parents go on holiday, they reluctantly stay with their great Aunt and Uncle, Molly and Tony, whom they don't know very well. When their relatives begin to behave oddly, Áine and Óisin discover a family secret, as well as unleashing a shapeshifting creature upon Hollowbrook Farm.
Can they banish the troublesome Púca before it’s too late?
Love how they use team work to fight off the Púcas! This book shows the importance of team work. Really liked when they found a character that has been missing for over 40 years. You would really enjoy this book if you like mystery and adventure with a little bit of scary parts. -Zoey
I really enjoyed the folklore and the history of the Puca as told in the story. The author did a great job of describing them. Will definitely read more by this author.
A fun and spooky read! Part of Christopher Menary's Midnight Shadows series for Middle Grade readers...think "Goosebumps in Ireland". Much like R.L. Stine's beloved books, while The Púca of Hollowbrook Farm is aimed at readers aged 8-12, it is perfect for horror fans of all ages looking for something quick, creepy, and cozy.
Set in seemingly-idyllic rural Ireland, a brother and sister holidaying on the farm of their elderly relatives come face to face with the Púca, a shape-shifting trickster from Irish folklore. With some genuinely chilling scenes that reminded me of movies like Critters and M. Night Shyamalan's The Visit balanced with an overall sense of mystery and adventure, this book will appeal to kids of all ages...including grown up ones like me!
Did you like reading Goosebumps when you were a kid? Are you looking for a book you can read with your children? This one fits perfectly into that category.
I read this with my 7 and 9 year old. I loved the siblings working together to attempt banishing the creatures that are running loose. It holds a great lesson for family. With spooky scares and glowing eyes the Pucai are what nightmares are made of. A fun and entertaining read.
