Echo: Burn

Rate this book
I didn’t survive Delta Force by being soft. Fire burned me, missions hardened me, and now I live alone in a mountain cabin where no one crosses my perimeter. My world is fire, steel, and silence.

Until she crashes into it.

Willa Hart is a fugitive with haunted eyes and a past that could expose everything Echo Company has fought to protect. I should’ve sent her away the moment I leveled my shotgun at her. Instead, I made a choice I swore I’d never make again. I let her stay. In my cabin. In my bed. Under my protection.

Snow closes in. Her stalker circles tighter. And every day, the line I drew around my heart gets burned away. She sees the man behind the scars, the soldier I thought was long gone.

Now she’s mine.

And anyone who tries to take her will burn.

When i found Echo:Burn on Book Siren,i couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
And i was glad i grabbed it,it turned out to be a rollercoaster ride that deserve a firm 3,5 stars.
Willa was a strong woman,a survivor of abuse that didn’t run from danger.
Instead she stood her ground, and defended herself and others, from the enemy.
Even though Kane wanted to protect her, would rather have sent her far away to keep her safe from harm.
Because she was in danger, the Committee had her on their hitlist, and not just because she saved military working dog Odin….
Secrets come to the surface as we progress, secrets that are lethal.
As well as secrets that could destroy the budding feelings that are growing between Willa and Kane.
And the enemy is closing in…..determined to silence anyone that threatens their plans.
They will do anything,take anyone…..

I really enjoyed Willa and Kane’s story, they were made for eachother.
Even though he kept trying to keep his distance, even though he kept trying to keep her safely hidden, she didn’t allow it.
And the others enjoyed how she stood up to him, every time.
The only problem i have now is what is happening to Mercer….
So,i hope that Echo:Line will arrive soon!

This is a Military Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Men of Echo Ridge series. I loved all the action in this book, and I loved getting to know the characters in this book. I really enjoyed this book so much, and I could not put this book down. I got into this book and I could not stop reading. I loved it so much. If you loved action packed military with a little romance with a strong Female Main character you will enjoy this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Fabulous book. The intensity was more powerful than I expected. The love between Kane and Willa was so strong and the bond between Kane and the rest of the group was unmistakable and adding Willa to the group just rounded them out. Willa added an unexpected strength her ability to blend with them was so unexpected. Her father raised a strong woman who knows what she believes in and is willing to stand by her feelings and intent. The Committee is damaged but not down by any means. More strength and fight will be needed.

Willa thought that, after six years on the run, she was finally safe. She thought she'd found a little peace, but everything is about to change. Her life will be in danger again, and this time things are much bigger than she imagined. An unexpected event puts her in the sights of a dangerous enemy, and that's when Kane appears as her savior.

From that moment on, their paths become intertwined. They both carry deep wounds from the past: Kane chose solitude and built walls around himself so he wouldn't be hurt again, while Willa bears scars etched in her mind and soul. Now these two wounded souls meet to fight together, because Willa is tired of running away. This time, she will face danger head-on.

However, nothing is that simple. Secrets from the past threaten to come to light, and one in particular could destroy everything Willa and Kane have built, causing their world to collapse completely. Even so, they both manage to find a connection, a real communication that unites them and allows them to overcome every obstacle together.

Kane, that strong and protective man, gives Willa the strength she needs to move forward. Although his instinct is to protect her, he knows she is capable of facing anything. As they fight the dangers that surround them, the feelings between them grow ever stronger. The connection becomes so intense that they can no longer deny what they feel.

They both give their all, heal their wounds, and are willing to burn the world down if necessary to protect each other and their loved ones. The tense moments are powerfully felt, full of emotion and adrenaline. The ending is bittersweet: the mission was a success, but it came at a price. Difficult decisions were made, and now the team must prepare to recover what was stolen from them.

I must admit I loved this book. I deeply loved Willa's strength and determination, that blend of vulnerability and courage that makes her so real. And Kane, my god, that man who allowed Willa to break down her walls, who showed her that she deserves to be loved too, and who in turn became her strength. Their relationship was powerful, full of love, fire, and mutual healing. I cried at the ending because I truly just want the whole team back together. 😭❤️

This book by Ms. James was a solid read, though I initially found it hard to understand the plot and characters fully. I would have liked more background on the years between Willa fleeing from an abusive relationship and being rescued by Kane from certain death.

Saying this book was intense is an understatement; it’s packed with danger, betrayal, secrets, and a group of people with different skills sold out by those they trusted. They’ve formed an elite team, each member bringing something unique to the fight.

This is Willa and Kane’s story; their relationship is intense. Two people with scars from the past who shouldn’t fit together, but somehow do. Both have demons, and both live with targets on their backs.

Kane leads a team of men and women who have been betrayed, hunted, and forced to rely only on each other. He has serious trust issues and is always on edge. Saving Willa was the easy part; keeping his distance was another matter entirely. I admired Kane for his respect for Willa’s skills and his protection, even when everything around them was falling apart.

Willa was a real surprise package. She’s a true survivor, smart, brave, and able to hold her own in dangerous situations. A former trauma nurse, she fled to Whitefish, Montana, after an abusive relationship and retrained as a veterinarian. Her only mistake was being in the wrong place at the wrong time and saving Odin, a dog with unique training. That act put her right in the crosshairs. Rescued by Kane, Willa is done running; she knows what she wants, and that’s Kane. I also loved how naturally she fit in with the team at Echo Base.

The story is told in dual POVs and features plenty of secondary characters, adding depth and interest. It’s fast-paced and action-packed, and the chemistry between Willa and Kane absolutely sizzles. Overall, it was a great read once I settled into it.

A romantic suspense filled thriller from the beginning to the very end as Commander Kane goes out in a snow storm to rescue the local veterinary, Willa Hart, and a dog she saved from chemical warfare poisoning that was heading into an ambush by the Committee to kill her and the dog. Kane barely saved them taking them to Echo Ridge an under ground bunker. They learned that Willa was taught by her father deceased Gunnery Sergeant in the Marines how defend herself using all types of weapons, which came in handy in defending the Ridge from the Committee. It was not long until Kane and Willa were an item, which the Committee would use against them. The Committee wanted to stop everyone at Echo Ridge, before they stop them from their end game. A book packed full of edge of chair action, technical and chemical warfare, and heroics.

I thought Kane and Willa's story was going to be good. I did not expect the non-stop action and suspense. Including the danger surrounding the Echo Ridge gang, this book gave a heightened level of intensity.

All of the characters are interesting in their own right. I really liked the way Willa stepped up to the plate and did what she had to do in spite of what it was costing her mentally and emotional. I loved that she had skills as more than just a physician. I appreciated the way the team accepted her into their group.

The situation with Mercer had me holding my breath. I was not prepared. I am looking forward to the next book and how the battle with the Committee continues to unfold. Rating 4.5 stars

Echo: Burn

This is a fast paced, high stakes story about a group of former special ops people fighting a clandestine quasi governmental agency. This particular story is about their leader and the woman he saves from that group and their adventures as they race to save the country from disaster while also falling in love. There are a lot of problems, and a variety of people involved, which makes for an interesting found family situation along with some definite hair raising situations. The main couple get their romantic HEA, but it is obviously not the end of the story for Echo Ridge.

This is a fast-paced suspense romance, with plenty of action. The Echo team are battling against the Committee an unknown collection of influential people, greedy for money and power, who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
There was plenty of action to keep me turning the pages well into the night: Willa and Kane have to deal with bullets, explosions, chemical weapons, and their attraction, sometimes all at once.
The hook for the next book left me hoping it will be released sooner rather than later please!

Willa left behind an abuser and created a new life. Saving a military dog has put her life in jeopardy. Kane has left nothing to chance, hidden away in the mountain along with a team of former special forces, he recognizes the danger stalking Willa. Can secrets from their pasts bring danger to their doorsteps? A chilling tale that will keep you wanting more. A love, a family, honor and redemption. This story has it all. Delta James does it again🔥🔥

4.5 stars
I loved this book BUT I did get a little bothered because there were multiple times things were repeated over and over again which after the 2nd/3rd time got old. There was a couple times things were repeated that were already said but other than that a really great suspenseful read as always.

I don’t love the ending with a bit of a cliff hanger but still good nonetheless.

Oh boy. The action. The Echo group, and now Willa, who seems like a normal civilian, but has combat skills her father taught her. Taking steps to right wrongs, counting the cost, but staying strong and motivated. Joining the team and making her mark.

Cliffhanger

I really dislike cliffhangers, especially when I can't immediately read the next chapter/story. I dislike waiting as I tend to read books in one sitting. The story line is good.

This has to be my favorite of the Men of Echo Ridge series so far. Delta James wrote Willa and Kane’s story with such intensity and suspense with both characters' desire and attraction for each other showing brightly. The danger Willa found herself in and how the men of Echo Ridge determined to save her and the dog Odin swept me up into the book that I couldn’t put down. A definite five star read that I recommend.

ECHO: BURN is the first instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult MEN OF ECHO RIDGE erotic, military romance series. This is former Black Ops commander Kane, and trauma nurse turned veterinarian Dr. Willa Hart’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kane and Willa) ECHO: BURN focuses on survival. Dr. Willa Hart has unknowingly triggered a group known as The Committee, when she rescued an injured dog named Odin, a dog trained to sniff out dangerous chemicals. The Committee wants both Willa and Odin dead but there is military team hidden deep within the mountains of Montana, a team who are determined to uncover the truth. Betrayed by one of their own, the team fled the Middle East, setting up their own military compound known as Echo Base, Montana. Determined to protect Dr. Willa Hart, Kane mounts a rescue but a rescue that places a target on his people and team.

The world building is detailed as the men of Echo Ridge are forced to mount both a defensive and offensive tactic in an effort to protect our story line heroine but Willa Hart has been trained in the art of military defense, and in this, Willa will become a valuable asset to Kane and his team.

The relationship between Kane and Willa begins as a rescue but quickly turns into something more. Kane is determined to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love but Willa is a force unto herself, and is just as capable protecting our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Kane’s expert and specialized team at Echo Base, Montana: Alex Mercer, Khalid, Sarah, Tommy, Rourke, and Stryker, and chemical sniffing dog,Belgian Malinois Odin; mercenary Dominic Cray, and Karine Miles. Alex Mercer’s story line is next.

ECHO: BURN is an action packed story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, military operations and espionage, friendships and love. The character driven premise is detailed and intriguing; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and charismatic. ECHO: BURN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Willa is so damn tired of running. Six years should’ve been enough to find a little peace, but trouble has a way of finding her and this time, her only mistake was saving a dog. Now new enemies are circling, determined to erase anything that threatens their plans. Kane thought he’d left chaos behind. Solitude has been his armor ever since the past nearly destroyed him. But when Willa crashes into his life, his long-buried instincts roar back to life. He senses she is keeping dangerous secrets, yet those haunted eyes cut right through his defenses. Offering her a place to hide might be reckless, but walking away isn’t an option. Kane may be the quintessential Alpha protector, but Willa is no damsel in distress. Her father’s “specialized” training has made sure of that. She’s ready to stand her ground, no matter the cost. And as the danger tightens its grip, so does the tension between them. It’s a slow burn that builds like a pressure cooker—until the only release is explosive. What I loved most about was is that, despite his doubts, he never undercuts Willa’s strength. He stands beside her, not in front of her, giving her the space to face her demons and the courage to move beyond them. And Willa? She’s simply remarkable. Fierce, brave, and beautifully human. Together, they don’t just survive, they heal. They show each other that love can exist even after the darkest chapters. And then there’s the Echo team, an unforgettable crew with scars of their own. They shouldn’t trust easily, but they open their arms to Willa, proving that family is sometimes found in the unlikeliest of places. This book is a high-octane thrill ride packed with action, danger, betrayal, secrets, and yes, some seriously steamy moments. Like the best romantic suspense, it’s not all smooth sailing, but the emotional payoff makes every twist worth it. I’m already counting down the days until the next book in the series.

Loved it! What a start to a new series for Delta James.
Kane, living at Echo Base, Montana, which is a sanctuary for his team. Stryker, Mercer, Rourke, Khalid, Tommy and Sarah. All are who remain after a betrayal at the highest level during an overseas tour. Their handler selling them out to the highest bidder.
Now they hide at Echo base and win wars no one even knows about. A war Willa inadvertently ventures into without knowing what was to come!
Willa Hart, was once a trauma nurse, running from her past and retrains to be a veterinarian. She finds herself on the run with a dog....Odin, whom she found and treated for chemical burns.
Now The Committee are after her and Odin to silence what they assume she knows.
Her name raises red flags, because of who her father was. "Gunnery Sergeant Michael Hart, Second Battalion, Sixth Marines". A man and career they all know about.
Willa is saved by Kane!
She then becomes embroiled in all things The Committee!
They are after Kane and his team and now Willa and her dog, Odin. Their names are on the elimination list!
Odin served in the military as a Chemical weapons detection dog. Now he is a liability to the military and they have sent the Committee to neutralise the threat and anyone associated with him. That being Willa Hart!
A fast paced story that is so interwoven you just don't see the twists and turns coming. Everything has an underlying reason within the story structure. It is very well written and the characters all have their place and reason for being there.
Loved all the gun fights, the budding romance between Willa and Hart, and how these ruthless men all come to accept Willa within their team structure...One that she had to earn, but with her fathers training to back her up, she did not disappoint!
An ending that throws you a curve ball, and has Kane's team on the back foot, but has you so ready for book 2 Echo Line. Bring it on!

3.5*

Firstly, I requested this ARC because of the information provided which sounded good, it also said that it had a happy ending……….it doesn't, it ends with a cliffhanger, my pet hate, especially when there is no mention of it, I just thought that it was a series about the men of Echo Ridge.

Having said all that, the story is action packed from start to finish.

Willa Hart has left Chicago, her position as an ER nurse, and her abusive husband, and secretly travelled to Montana, after six years she is running her own vet practice.

Willa's problems start when she treats a stray dog that was outside her clinic, a dog that just happened to be a highly trained military dog, trained to sniff out chemical weapons, a dog that is being hunted by the ruthless "Committee", a highly powerful organization, intent on pulling down the US government and taking over.

Rhett Kane leads a team of highly skilled ex military operators, their underground headquarters are hidden in the mountains and they know that they have to take down the "Committee" before tens of thousands of lives are lost, but they are few amongst the many, what they do have is belief in the cause, their skill and their respect for one another

Kane and Willa meet in the most extraordinary, terrifying, circumstances, and she, and the dog , are taken to Echo headquarters for safety……… then the battle begins.

I found it a little difficult to comprehend how an ex ER nurse turned vet, can be in full battle mode on a par with battle hardened ex marines and SEALS etc, even with all the training that her father gave her, to me it wasn't remotely realistic. I also found the repetition a bit irritating but if you can get past this and the cliffhanger it is an entertaining story packed with action and suspense and of course a blossoming romance.

I received a free copy of this book and my review is totally voluntary.

High action, high drama, high stakes! This book started off with a suckerpunch that draws you into the story, giving you background on Willa's character. She's a tough FMC who came to Alaska to reinvent and fund herself. Rhett Kane is a loner who commands the Echo Team, base camp Echo Ridge. He has a complicated history full of military service and covert ops. The story line is straight forward in some respects, and yet extremely detailed and specific in others. Histories between characters overlap, creating ties noone anticipated at the start. Echo Team finds themselves facing off against their primary advisory, The Committee, while trying to protect the lives of innocents and those who are being targeted because they are either a threat to, or no longer of use to, The Committee. It is not a short list, and one they themselves are on!

This book is full of action scenes, violence/gunfights, dramatic moments, steamy scenes, and some emotionally charged exchanges. While Kane and Willow are the primaries, there are a handful of secondary characters that help make this story what it is (Mercer, Stryker, Rourke, Sarah, Tommy, Khalid and of course Kessler in specific). Others such as Crey, Karina and Victoria play key roles as well. The dynamics between these characters is impressive and gives the true feel of brotherhood to Echo Team. I am definateky looking forward to reading Alex Mercer and Delaney's story next in and Echo: Line.

I greedily accepted a gift copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

A captivating read, wonderful story and plot that held me riveted between its pages
I have to say that I was not disappointed it lived up to my expectations. Willa was a simply amazing woman that has been put through absolute hell and I have to say the abuse she suffered could easily have broken her.
However, she came out the other side stronger and she was attacked she had stood her ground and defended herself and also others with everything she had in her.
Kane also wanted to do everything within his power to keep her safe and he would have done this, the Committee had put her name on a hitlist simply because she had actually bee responsible for saving a military working dog by the name of Odin.
As the secrets are shown up and the secrets that they are also responsible for destroying the feelings that are growing steadily between Willa and Kane and they are also aware that the enemy are also closing in and that it is their aim to ensure that anyone that threatens their plans will be killed and unfortunately, she is within this factor and they are merciless.
I totally enjoyed every moment of this book and highly recommend it, I found the story to be so well written and the characters were wonderful and it was impossible to put this book down until I reached the end and discovered the outcome.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

A complete rush from the first pages leading us to the next book in the series, Echo: Line. Rhett Kane and his former military friends have settled in Echo Ridge. They learn that a local veterinarian is on a “kill” list by a group known as The Committee. They need to find her in time, but why are they after her? Willa Hart had moved to Whitefish, Montana, leaving the man she was living with who had become more and more abusive. Now six years later, she is a veterinarian who recently saved a dog named Odin. She realized that the dog was trained to recognize chemical nerve agents, was expected to die, but she was able to save him. Reporting what she found has unknowingly placed her, and the dog, on the list. Kane saves her from the first murder attempt, but now she is sequestered with him at Echo Ridge. The Committee is not giving up as their attempts to find and kill her will get them closer to the ridge. Willa has no intention of hiding from the people who want to kill her as she was trained by her Marine father to protect herself. She and Kane eventually act on the intense attraction between them and she refuses to be left behind as he fights for her and their future. The Committee is not done and has another devastating plan and the clock is ticking. Will they be able to stop what is planned while keeping Willa and his team alive? WO!!! This is an awesome book!! It is definitely my favorite Delta James book! The story is packed full of action, danger and intrigue from beginning to end. Willa's character is really complex. She starts out a scared women on the run from an abusive man that she thought she loved and loved her. After looking over her shoulder for 6 years, she finds herself with a huge target on her back for simply saving the life of a dog. But after 6 years she is tired of running and tired of being afraid so she decides to make a stand and fight back, and boy does she!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Kane is the leader of a group of men and women that have made it their life's work to protect the people who can't protect themselves and to fight the corruption that nearly killed them all. I don't have a favorite part, I enjoyed the whole book and literally read the entire book from beginning to end with no interruptions. It was great, I just couldn't put it down. My heart broke at the end and I can't wait for the next book in this series. You will love this one!!

I loved the prequel for this series…it was addictive and intense. I love suspenseful military romances and was eager to dive into the full length books featuring the characters introduced in this novella.

The first full-length book in the series didn’t exactly meet my expectations. It was intense, almost too intense with nonstop action. The romance between Kane and Willa occurs during stressful combat situations. They went from total strangers to full on possessive and ‘Mine’ within a very short timeframe (days?).

Some of the interactions between Kane and Willa were a little repetitive - he wants her safe and to follow his orders for tactical security and she’s willing to cooperate up to a certain point. After the 3rd or 4th repetition of this exchange it was more of a distraction than a contribution to furthering the story.

Willa being a strong woman who was able to step up and contribute to help the team was awesome. She definitely has skills - medical and weapons that are critical to the team’s success.

Willa Hart became a veterinarian in a small Montana town after leaving her old life behind. But little did she know that when she saved an injured dog, her father's past military career would put her in the crosshairs of a shadowy government organization. Rhett Kane, or just Kane to the team of Echo Company and a former Delta Force soldier won't let the Committee kill Willa or the former military working dog she saved. Not because she knows something, but because the dog can track what the Committee doesn't want found. Compelling and well written characters that will have to fight to survive government operatives against all odds. Willa is a fantastic character and a woman full of surprises, I loved her! Kane is not at all prepared for Willa and the fact that she is perfectly capable of fighting back and refuses to obey his orders without question. Action-packed and suspenseful military romance with unexpected twists in the plot that made it impossible to put this book down. This is a must-read!
