This is the 4th Hattie B: Magical Vet novel. Hattie has an old vet bag which is a portal to the magical world of Bellua. The fantastical inhabitants are being tormented by the evil King Ivar who is stealing their powers to make him more powerful so he can take over the kingdom. In this one he's stolen the colour from a mermaid's tail. This gives him the power of camouflage and he can harness it into an energy bolt.

Hattie, aided by her loyal companion, Dragon Mith Ickle, has to go on a quest to get some rainbow syrup from the rainbow waterfall, which is guarded by some very unfriendly mermaids.

This one's quite cute and will no doubt enchant young readers. I would have loved it as a child, being full of mythical hybrids and magic. Loved the name of the dragon (Mith Ickle) and I liked the whole stealing of the mermaid's colour and the magic powers of the mermaid. The biggest reason to pick this up though is the super cute artwork by Lorena Alvarez - which adds a whole extra dimension and really brings this to life.
