Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane is enjoying a new work schedule, a budding romance off duty, and a lull in recent murders—that is, until he’s requested to a murder scene in a neighboring district. A seemingly normal husband and wife are found bludgeoned to death with words carved into their flesh.
The partial message left in the victims ensures more bodies will follow. It doesn’t take long before they do.
Kane quickly realizes that this is revenge in its most sinister form. He must bring the man behind the murders to justice before the message is complete, the body count rises, and the killer disappears forever. A tall task when everyone involved is either dead or deceitful.

Author E. H. Reinhard's second Lt. Carl Kane book picks up three months after the Bob Cross case. (Book One). Kane and his trusted de facto partner Sergeant Hank Rawlings are called to James and Margaret Miller's house for a gruesome murder. Both Millers were beaten with a tire iron. Also, carved into their foreheads "Justice" (James), and "For" (Margaret's). the scene is a mess but the killer hasn't left much for team to investigate. Meanwhile, Tom Spearman is finishing his court appointed counseling with Dr. Fay Rettenburg. Six months ago after a late night car accident, Tom assaulted two cops in the emergency room. Given circumstances judge ordered counseling over jail. Tom's wife was killed in the car accident leaving him devastated. Dr. Rettenburg is concerned that Tom has sold his house and business planning a move to Argentina. When the daughter of a judge and her date are the next victims of the tire iron killer, the pressure on Kane is immense. New victims Jessica and Jake also have a word each carved into their foreheads. With Kane working long hours and nearly every single day, new girlfriend Callie starts to feel comfortable staying at Kane's condo. The pair's relationship has intensified since getting to know each other in book one of series. I was so drawn into this plot I had to read book as quickly as I could. The story was an enjoyable read. Author E.H. Reinhard sets things up quickly, delivers the action with a high level of suspense and cuts away fluff for a quick end. A little over 200 pages this one just rolled page by page with some witty and gritty dialog. Reinhard's characters are pretty unique which adds to enjoyment of reading the book. I've already started reading the third book in this series. Following Kane and Rawlings tracking down killers does get addictive. Five stars out of a possible five stars. If you haven't found this series yet- look for it ! Check it out
I read this guy's first book, and this one. I'd had a recommendation, so I downloaded a couple of e-books. The first was pretty weird, the second confirmed my view. This author is completely insane. Totally unnecessarily crazy and graphic violence. Anyone who can dream up this lunacy belongs in a rubber room.
Justice denied drives an angry man to vengeance and perplexes the Tampa police department. A couple is brutally murdered in their home. Subsequently, a Judge's daughter is abducted after her boyfriend is left for dead. Lt. Kane is determined to catch a killer and connect the seemingly unrelated cases.
This is a fairly straightforward police procedural. There is reference to Kane's first case presumably in the first book. It is unnecessary to mention and distracting. Kane's love life and cat really didn't add much. But it was fast-paced and resolved satisfactorily if predictably.
So, Lieutenant Kane is up to his usual - pursuing the murderer with dogged devotion. Do I detect a little humor coming into his life, now that he has a girlfriend? Nice addition. A good, standard police procedural, but not a barnburner.
Requite, went along quite well. As all good police procedurals do. Seeing the story from the villain's point of view, works for me. I like the idea of knowing the motive. can be helpful. I also loved the suspenseful, fast paced ending, too.
I liked Lt. Kane and his merry men. Good cops who take their job seriously and do it well. This story had a lot going for it. A maniac who was killing seemingly unrelated people but one survived. After capturing the killer the truth is uncovered and the motive is made known. A truly twisted and unusual ending. I liked this author and will continue to read his most interesting novels.
I find this author a little confusing because the same character, Kane, appears in two different series and I like to read in order, but that aside, I love the mysteries. They are gory and bloody and the plot keeps you wondering. Great characters. Love the interplay betwee the homicide detectives.
The cases continue to build as you read each page. So much so that you can't put the book down. Mr Reinhard uses places in the Tampa Bay area that are real. As he and his partner investigate the crime you can feel the Florida heat and smell the saltwater in the air. Several twist and turns and close calls. Great stuff.
This was another excellent book in the LT Kane series. A different kind of bad guy but the action was non-stop and hard to put the book down. Lot of twists and turns along their trail of clues. Kane's love life has picked up and she is loved by Kane's cat, Butch. I highly recommend these books and I am anxious to start #3 in the series.
Before I forget, on the kindle about location 93% there is an error, it's not a spelling one and most people wouldn't pick it up unless they spent a lot of time in the hospital. Adult men and women don't share rooms. This book is as good a book one. Fast, exciting, psycho thriller. Just read.
I have read several of his books now and have loved every one. His characters are believable. He’s descriptive without getting into the minutia, like some other authors, so you get to use your imagination. And the story lines aren’t dull. Highly recommend!!
Like the first volume, I thought this was really well written and completely engrossing. I read through it in about two hours. Basically, the same review - I like that it feels much more like a detailed police procedural rather than some sort of deep mystery.
Lieutenant Kane has a new set of murders. People who have had a tire iron used to crush their skulls and end their lives. Finding the name of the murder was one thing, finding his whereabouts and why he was killing was more difficult.
Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane is called to the scene of a double murder. A seemingly normal couple but each had words carved on their foreheads. This partial message would imply that there will be more victims. An enjoyable story
Great book. Good reading with fewer typos than some of the other e-books I've read. It's good to know there's an author that keeps His/Her eyes on the prize which is My attention to the plot, the players and the typos.
I had difficulty putting this book down. I love Lt. Kane. The characters are so believable and so interesting. The storyline keeps you glued to the page (or screen).
The second book of the series was pretty good also. I still don't care for the author's character descriptions but the premise was good. Plenty of action and the story moves right along. I would recommend this book. A short read.
Another superb police procedural by Mr Reinhard guaranteed to please
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Requite and highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading great police procedurals. Tons of exciting, page-turning action
Suspenseful story. Murders that have to make sense eventually. I read this story in three nights. Although night three went on til three o'clock. I recommend this weekend author. I hope you'll enjoy it too. Happy Reading.
This is the second book I've read by this author. They aren't bad........ and I like the main characters. I will read the third book, as these came together on my Kindle. Will write a review when I finish "Determinant".
Gripping storyline, plausible characters. It moves along at a good pace, plenty of action and twists to the plot. We're getting to know the main characters in a bit more depth now. Will definitely be reading the other books in this series.
Lieutenant Kane working to solve more grisly murders and some more glimpses into his personal life. I can't say it is a pleasant read but interesting to see how all the strands come together.
I have no idea how an author thinks up all of the terrible things he describes in these books! Nevertheless he continues to write books that are hard to put down. I generally do not like books that have page after page of very detailed subscriptions of different locations. I do not need that the floor was a dark red color that matched the dark maroon drapes etc. This book has some of that but does not go overboard. The plot was interesting but, some of the activities were telegraphed well before they happened but you had to read on to get the details of the actual action. I have read all of the Hank books and now am on Kane. I should have read the Kane books first!
