Gather close as the firelight dies, for there are monsters dwelling in the dark. A machine-man bides his time as old gods sew souls and new gods plot world domination. And what of the architect and artist languishing in an alien prison?

Overall, 4.5 stars. Nice mix of stories from apocalyptic to mythic and even SF. Jeffs' voice is assured and her prose is efficient. All the stories felt tightly constructed and finished on the right note. My personal fave was "Keep the Stitches Small".
Definitely recommended to lovers of short fiction or those who squeeze their reading into a daily commute.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Jeffs writes about the darkness and sorrow in relationships. The choices people make that hold them up or create horrors they must then deal with. This is beautiful writing with a deep understanding of what makes us human and what hurts us most. Some of the stories are heartbreaking, some are bitterly hopeful. Highly recommended!
