This book was like a Hallmark movie that snuck in a little spice, and I loved every second of it. 😂 Alex just took over her family business and is trying to keep everything from falling apart, while Finley, the local grumpy farmer, seems determined to test her patience and maybe her self-control. Their banter had me cracking up, and the slow build between them was chef’s kiss.

Finley’s all gruff and moody on the outside, but you just know he’s a total softie underneath. And Alex? She’s smart, stubborn, and the only one brave enough to challenge him. Between the small-town drama, cozy Thanksgiving setting, and the chemistry that just kept simmering, this book gave me all the warm and fuzzy fall feels.

Perfect for anyone who loves a grumpy/sunshine vibe with a side of pumpkin pie, spice, and chaos.

I love this follow up to Checked out on Halloween! It was so neat to get to explore Alex and her past and find out how Opal story’s going. I really love the world building in the short books and enjoyed reading it during the holidays.

Main Characters: Alex and Finley
Hot take: This was not good. I get that it was a novella, so the plot had to be quick. But this felt lazy. Plus, I get that he was a grumpy guy, but that doesn't translate into Dom energy per say. Calling her a cum slut on their second time is WILD. Pretty sure she gave NO indication that she was into that. The smut and the plot were completely disconnected. It also felt like the author was trying to put every possible trope into one very short book.

Plot: Alex is taking over a small town grocery store for her parents. A local farmer is one of her vendors - Finley. She is sunshine. He is grumpy. His mother was killed when he was 11 in a fluke bull attack. Alex has been in an abusive relationship with Chase. When they meet, he is so afraid that she will meet the same demise on his farm that he pushes her away. That and that her and her friends started a rumor in high school that he killed his mother. Though weirdly she doesn't remember? They get stuck in a blizzard in her store. And of course sleep together. Then they will a festival together. Then Finley brands Chase a "Woman Beater" and runs him away from Alex. They end up moving in together and getting engaged after 3 years.

I laugh. “Like dirt?”
He finally looks at me, one corner of his mouth lifting. “No. Like nature. Like life. Like the golden rays of sun on Thanksgiving morning.”

Small town cozy romance. The banter had me kicking my feet the entire time. The MMC is hot, grumpy and just plain sassy and the FMC is hilariously unfazed by his sass. The tension is 10/10 the spice is 100/10. I liked the creativity with the spice, you know typically the smut filled books are very repetitive but this felt like the author was very attentive to that, which I appreciate. It also was surprisingly poetic and sweet, you don’t typically expect to be hit with the swoony lines in a smut novella. Overall 5 stars, 5 spice and I can’t wait for the next one.

Words can’t describe how much I love men written by this author. Xaden who? Give me Finley please. Never in my life did I think I’d take a human man over a shadow daddy but yes ma’am I’ll take Finley with a side of Kellan. God tier smut. Perfectly short. It’s the end of the year, we have reading goals to meet, I applaud the authors that get it, we’re here for a good time not a long time. Keep them coming K.T. I’ll eat these men up and lick the crumbs. I never thought a person being literally BRANDED could ever make me SO hot. If you like a “touch her and die” MMC then Finley is the one for you.

short, sweet, a little spicy

Okay, as much as I enjoyed this quick and cute story, some of the details being inconsistent drove me CRAZY! Her couch was dark green (mentioned twice) when she moved in and then 100 pages later, its white. And after the overnight BLIZZARD, in the afternoon the ground is described as being dirt and grass.
More mild than the first in the trilogy but still spicy

This was a mess. I get it's a novella, but don't insert so many things that need resolution if you can't do them in a way that people care about (Finley's mom's death, his connection to Anna from high school that he's been harboring since and then just lets go of once she says she's sorry? Anna's stalker ex that he attacks and she's just like, my hero?). No.

If you read Pumpkin Spice Cafe and found the spice lacking and found it entirely too long with too much unnecessary yapping, then you'll truly love this book. It's very similar but delivers the spice and has a less annoying MMC.
