Rounded up to 3 and a 1/2 stars. I don't really know what to say about this book! I absolutely adored the first in the series and looked forward to this one but it didn't grab me as much as the first one did. I like Pixie, the main character and Ulysses her friend, even though we don't spend much time with him. He's a sort of bodyguard for Pixie when she goes into a trance. The plot of the story grabbed me initially, as I love anything to do with the Gilded Age but there wasn't enough of it for me. I thought we'd spend a lot longer in Gilded Age New York. There were also a lot of unlikable characters and I find it hard to engage with a story when there are too many of them. We begin in modern day New York where the reason for Pixie's summons becomes apparent. This part dragged and it took too long for the real story to get going. Also Pixie's past love life seemed to become the focus of the story which I wasn't expecting. As the story came to it's conclusion lots of things surprised me. I found this one of the most difficult books I've read to review but I will read the next in the series to see everything tied up.
This is part two of two so far in the Timeslider Series. Although it was a good read, I must say that I enjoyed book one, Shadows in the Moonlight, just a bit more.
In this instalment, Pixie Tate embarks on a journey to New York. Despite her hatred for flying, she has no choice in her mind as the alternative is to face her mother and their estranged relationship.
The reason for Pixie’s trip is the Aldershoff Hotel in Manhattan. This hotel was once the former home of Miss Aldershoff, she is a woman in her late 90’s nearly who is still a formidable and unpleasant character. The Aldershoff family, known for their materialism and love of spending, had lost all their wealth, leading to the sale of their home and its transformation into this beautiful hotel. The owner has preserved many of its original features.
Miss Aldershoff prances around the hotel as if she owns it. She knows that her family owns a precious stone, which would have been passed down to her if she had been born a boy. Her father hid the stone, and she finds the key. Determined to find it, she decides to hold a seance, which unleashes a spirit that wreaks havoc in the hotel room. She is unrepentant.
This is where Pixie comes in. She is a time slider, and she is transported to the Titanic. When she time slides in the present, it could be hours, but in the past, it equates to days. Pixie must be mindful of the law of attraction and avoid changing things in the past, as even the slightest alteration could have a profound impact.
During her time in the past, Pixie crosses paths with someone she is in love with from the past. When she time slides, she inhabits the body of someone else. Will this person see past her new appearance? Will she find the precious gem? What secrets will be discovered?
There are some touching scenes and moments, but Overall, it’s a good read, but I’m curious to see what happens in book three as I gather that this is a trilogy.
Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for the gifted paperback ARC 🫶

💭 I liked this one! The historical elements were very interesting, and while I wont spoil exactly where the time travelling takes our main character Pixie, it was definitely interesting to witness that tragic event through her eyes. We also get to see a character from Pixie’s past, which I enjoyed. I also loved seeing the mysteries unfold and trying to solve them before the answers were revealed.
Check this one out if time travel, a mystery regarding the whereabouts of a famous diamond, and séances with spirits who have unfinished business sounds appealing!
I actually loved this book SO much I emailed Sante Montefiore to thank her and had a lovely reply. Had to give it 5 stars! I was absolutely hooked by the first book in the trilogy and couldn’t wait for the second. It came and I read it straight through and it didn’t really touch me at all compared to the first. Can’t explain why. A few days later I decided I would read it again. It was extraordinary as the second time of reading it really got to me, so much so I may yet read it again! Incredible! I now can’t wait for the third book in the series but we have to wait till July 2026!
This is the second book in a time slider trilogy, however the book can be read on its own. In looking for a family diamond to do something good in her life Alma releases a spirit. Pixie is called in to help the spirit through the passage of time. This read has a story within a story and is packed with twists that will keep you guessing to the end. Fabulous.
I have been waiting for this book and it was truly worth waiting for. I loved the characters and the story and I cannot wait for the final book in the series. Santa is brilliant and I have loved everyone of her books.
Santa Montefiore is an amazing author who, in my opinion, is not celebrated or well known enough in the US, and it is a damn shame!!!!!!! I discovered her books years ago and have enjoyed each one so much, and I look forward to every single one impatiently. This author is a master of genres and a beautiful writer. her love stories are to die for, but her other books are just as delicious and entertaining as well. I need to stop gushing, If you haven't read her books, jump to it, people!!!!! Trust me, you will thank me
A great second installment to the Timeslider series! I enjoyed going back to the world of Pixie Tate, this time as she time travels to 1912 to try to solve the mystery of an unhappy spirit haunting a luxury hotel in 2014.
Pixie continues to be a lovable character and we learn more about her as she interacts with several members of a wealthy family in 1912, owners of the 2014 hotel that used to be their Gilded Age home.
Pixie gets caught up in a famous event that occurred in 1912 and the author did a terrific job of bringing it vividly to life. I won’t share what the event was as it is spoilerish and it is not mentioned in the book synopsis.
The setting was beautifully described and made it feel like I was there in the 1912 storyline. The writing also flowed smoothly. My only slight quibble was that the middle part slowed a little.
I recommend reading the first in the series, Shadows in the Moonlight, as this second novel builds on a romantic relationship established in book one. The ending of this second one sets things up nicely for the third and final entry in the series.
Thanks to the publisher for this complimentary digital copy. All opinions are my own.
Secrets of the Starlit Sea By Santa Montefiore Published by Simon and Schuster Canada ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
📖 In the 2nd novel of the Timeslider Trilogy, we see Pixie Tate being hired to deal with a spirit who has been brought across the veil by a group of older women at a hotel with a ouija board. The woman leading the charge had hoped to contact her father to find the extremely valuable missing diamond that could set her descendant’s up for life, when her sister’s ex husband comes through instead and wreaks havoc on the hotel. Pixie timeslides to 1912, aboard RMS titanic to find out what happened to make Lester stuck in the spirit world and unable to cross over, when she happens upon a familiar face aboard.
I went into the 2nd book of this trilogy blind, not realizing the ship on the cover was actually the Titanic and that it would be a large part of the setting for this novel. I’ve always been fascinated by the Titanic, so this was well received. Much of this novel seemed to be inspired by James Cameron’s version of events as we have a lost diamond, love affairs and the Unsinkable Molly Brown. While I didn’t connect with the characters in this novel as much as in Shadows in the Moonlight, I connected with the time period, setting and Historical Event much more.
I recommend this novel (after reading the 1st novel in the series) to those who enjoy multi-genred novels such as romance, historical fiction, historical romance, magical realism/supernatural and mystery. I tandem read this book with the audio, and enjoyed the narration as well. Either format is consumable.
Thank you to Santa Montefiore and Simon and Schuster Canada for the gifted advanced physical copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Easy, easy 5* from me. I rarely start a book in a series out of the order but I had to this time cos' this one was on offer and I REALLY wanted to read it as it sounded right up my street and right now I can't afford the first one as well,,,,hehehe !! So had to break one of my own cardinal rules-living dangerously, dontcha' know !! The whole setting and the idea of going back in time to the Titanic appealed immensely and I wasn't disappointed at all.....it's rare I don't want a book to end but this was one of them. It's just a super story. I'll definitely be grabbing the first book (though I've clearly read spoilers in this one now) and I was a bit sad to see she's only going to do 3 in the series.....hopefully she'll revisit this decision as there are SO many stories and events she could utilise in this fashion. I'm a person with sod all imagination but even I could see the infinite possibilities with this great idea. I was gratified she used proper English spelling, though she's another author hellbent on diminishing the use of question marks. I've noticed this a lot in recent books I've read. I did spot 2 howling mistakes that someone should have spotted...Pied Piper of Hamlin should be Hamelin and she mentions wanting to be Jane in the Famous Five right at the end whereas to my memory the only girls were George and Anne !!! Another thing was repeating a message and instead writing '3 reasons to be infuriated by' she amended it to '3 reasons to be infuriated with'.... I really liked young Pixie and hope she manages to find Cavill once again in book 3....certain parts of their story had me sobbing. I was most proud of myself as I had guessed where the item they were trying to locate was hidden ( although I had considered 2 places).....and that when Pixie encountered Mrs Brown I said to myself, "The unsinkable Mollie Brown" and I remembered correctly !! I enjoyed the mention of Patricia The Stripper as as kids we used to titter at this as it's my mum's name.... Such a lovely and entertaining story altogether and I loved it.
Atmospheric, compelling, and absorbing! In this second instalment of the 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 series, 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐀, we head back into the life of the talented Pixie Tate, as she is called to the luxurious Aldershoff Hotel in New York City to confront a restless spirit that will have her timeslipping back to 1912 and into the body of Constance Fleet just as she embarks on the Titanic’s inaugural voyage to America alongside Cavill, a man she never expected she’d ever see again. The writing is rich and evocative. The characters are layered, intriguing, and eccentric. And the dual past-and-present narrative unfolds seamlessly, weaving a captivating story filled with love, loss, guilt, grief, family, friendship, duty, and betrayal, all touched with an alluring hint of the supernatural. Overall, 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐀 is another enchanting, immersive novel by Montefiore that’s the perfect choice for readers who enjoy dual timelines, a touch of mystery, a hint of romance, and a beautifully woven thread of the paranormal.
Sommige zinnen moest ik gewoon even laten bezinken.
4.5⭐️ I did like going back going back to this series with this second book. I will say though that I liked the first book just a bit better than this one. I was engaged, entertained and hooked with this book but I think I just found the ending a bit rushed. With that being said Santa Montefiore is one of my favourite authors and I get excited for all of her books. You definitely don’t want to miss this one if you read the first. Looking forward to the third one.
I can’t express how much I loved reading this second book in the Time-slider series. The writing flows from one page to the other with so much ease, the plot becomes more and more intriguing. I adore the characters that Santa creates and has created, they bounce off each with ease and tenderness. The theme of time travel plays an important role in this story: as does the first one and Santa writes and structures it down perfectly.
This book is filled with so much love, laughter and trust. And I can’t wait to see where Santa takes us next.
Book 2 did not disappoint! I really enjoyed her timeslip journey back to 1912, the fateful year of the Titanic, also that she met once again, the love of her life. Nicely finished to set up for the next book in the series.
