One thousand years before the Calamity Crew, the Gods arrived.
Or so they proclaimed.
Find out the truth in Origins of a Calamity World
Lysik and the love of his life, Aileene, are mere caretakers in an important exploratory mission to find a new planet for their people. To them, it was just another job. A way to explore and make money. Neither of them expected what the Earth’s solar system would do to the ship’s inhabitants.
Strange occurrences, people going mad, leading to strange abilities and the destruction of their ship. All they can do now is hope to survive.
Misty R Phillips is a woman of action. She tackles each day—head on—with a blanket and a cup of coffee. Armed with her wit, far too many cats, and a curious faced dog, she battles the wonders of family life. She takes all of her flaws, insecurities, and failings, wraps them in little bits of paper, gives them personality and names, and shoves them into her books. She may be graphic, vulgar and a wee bit asinine on paper, but all of her friends and family know her to be sweet, kind and loyal. www.mistyrphillips.ca
What a ride! This book was not at all what I was expecting—but in the best possible way. It starts off in a different time period than the previous book, which threw me for a moment, but once I caught on, I was completely hooked. The concept is fantastic, the story feels fresh and unpredictable, and the writing style is absolutely amazing. The author has such a talent for blending emotion, tension, and worldbuilding seamlessly. I loved getting to know these characters and seeing how their actions set the stage for what’s to come in the larger Calamity universe. It’s one of those stories that keeps you thinking long after you’ve finished, and it left me genuinely excited for future books in the series. I enjoy this novella. It was well written and interesting. The main characters were developed enough to become invested in their stories. It was an intriguing premise… which I can’t say much more about without mentioning the plot!
I think that I would have liked this to be a novel, so the ideas could be fully expanded.
Overall, it was written well, and I read it in 2 sessions which is a good sign. I think I would like to read more of the stories within this universe.
Misty R Phillips does an amazing job in writing this in-between book in the Calamity Crew series, it had that element that I was looking for from Heart of Gaia. I enjoyed the overall concept of that space opera elements and how it was used in this novella. The characters were so well written and enjoyed that they worked in this universe. I was glad it had that overall feel that I was looking for as something in-between and left me wanting to read the next book in the series.
