best read _before_ starting your new venture

"Starting Your Own Business" from Finance Knights Publications has teh ambitiou sgoal to teach the simplest beginner to start and grow a business in record time. The book walks through examples of market research and product development and building a business using examples of simple service business (e.g. plumbing, lawn care). The challenge in such businesses is in maintaining operational execellence as you scale which is not addressed in the scope of this book. The material in the book is not particularly novel. It may be a useful presentation format for a new entrepreneur, but then I worry if such a person is already further into their entreprenurial journal, and this material may no longer add sufficient value for adressing their specific needs.

Helpful Ideas for Starting a Business

This is a very good book providing helpful advice on starting a business. It starts at working up the courage to strike out on your own and goes through all the different options for businesses that someone could start. I like the different stories that were weaved in the book that made the information more warm and approachable. And the information itself was presented in a clear and simple manner so that people don’t feel overwhelmed at the prospect of starting a business.

I liked the message in the beginning that starting a business needs courage and that financial uncertainty can become scary. So everyone starting from scratch can relate to that.
For non-digitalbusinesses like a lawnmower or window cleanerthere is a beginner guide how it could work, that you should keep your day job unless you're profitable enough. For digital businesses there is a lot of theory, but at the end of the day you have to find your own niche... The bureaucratic stuff is US-centered. So non-Americans might as well skip it.

I'm trying to figure out the best ways to market my business right now and this book did help me some in that area. It really is a great blueprint for people who want to become entrepreneurs and does a great job covering the basics. It also excels at using individual examples to drive the points home. Different ideas for businesses are discussed, as well as advertising, growing and scaling, and what kind of business you can choose to be and tax information you need to know.
