Thea Moonweaver has always been a ghost in her own life, a wolf-less girl in a pack that demands strength. Shunned by her family and tormented by those who see her as a disgrace, she has learned to survive by being invisible. But when her life is threatened by the pack's cruel leadership, an unlikely rescue offers her a chance at a new beginning.

Swept away by Kieran Blackthorn, the formidable Alpha of the rival Crimson Lake Pack, Thea finds herself in a world that challenges everything she has ever known. Here, strength is measured not by brute force, but by community, kindness, and an ancient magic that hums within the land.

As Thea discovers a hidden connection to the natural world and a power she never knew she possessed, she must decide if she can trust the one man who sees her not as a broken girl, but as his fated mate. But healing the scars of her past may not be enough to save her from a new, terrifying threat that hunts her for her unique abilities. Verdantis is a compelling tale of survival, slow-burn romance, and finding your true power in a world that tried to define you.

I absolutely loved this book. It doesn't read like your typical shifter romance, it feels like I'm being transported into their world to see the growth of these characters and I'm here for it.

I think it's important for books to normalise and show healthy relationships, I loved Kieran and Thea's relationship.

Thea's character development was so refreshing. This book really showed how recovering from trauma isn't a linear journey. Those scars we will carry for the rest of our lives, but you can still thrive.

This had no spice but I loved it because it felt like the author understood that you don't need to be in a relationship to feel healed or "to be fixed".

I received an ARC copy for an honest review

This was so good. The world, the magic, the stakes, the writing…..my absolute cup of tea.

This is a duel POV story. But let’s be honest, this was Thea’s story with Kieran acting in a supporting character role. Kieran was concerned only with Thea’s wellbeing from the moment he saw her. And his intentions were always clear.

Thea suffered so much at the hands of her pack, especially her father. The author did an extraordinary job of showing a realistic timeline of Thea’s recovery.

The found family in this book is amazing. The secondary characters are so well flushed out and I cared about each one’s story. Add to that witches, nightmares, and dragons and the story has a really well rounded fantasy ensemble.

The battle scenes were immersive and action packed. The Shadow Lands were imagined in a uniquely unsettling way. For me, the writing was so good throughout the book.

This book is 560 pages, so it is hefty in both length and subject matter. I enjoyed the pacing, feeling very connected to Thea’s arc because of it. I also love all things green so I was very into the magic and lore of the Verdantis.

This is not a spicy book. The romance was very much secondary to Thea’s recovery and newfound agency. But it was very sweet and illustrated how a supportive partner acts.

Read this book if you like a story that showcases the transformation of a broken woman into her true, powerful self.

4.5/5. Rounded to 5.

**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.**

I absolutely loved this book so much, didnt wanna put it down. The author did such a good job keeping your attention and creating a world that you could emerge yourself in. I would say this book is a self healing and learning to trust while finding yourself with a romance backing. Kieran’s patience and understanding with Thea is what true mates are, the way he supports her is truly what love symbolizes. There's so many twists and turns, characters you will hate and characters you will love (malleus is my personal favorite).

Between world building, lore, action, all the plot you won't want to put this book down.

wow!!!! This is my introduction into wolf novels, to this author and omg id didnt dissapoint!!

This follows Thea a wolfless girl in a pack that followed there own rules, abused all those that weren't part of what they believed a pack should be, until one day! she is seen.. by a neighbouring pack during a meeting,

unknowingly to her finally seen.
someone cared enough to go back to her Alpha to raise concerns about her treatment.

Alpha decides to assess with his own eyes! what he finds, enlighten something in him! something feral.. something more!

he must protect her at all costs!!

Taking her away from the cruelty that was her pack was the only option!

But this meant war!!! unrelenting war! her old pack wanted her back ... she was there property to do with as they wanted! The new pack wasn't letting that happen!

This is a beautiful story of self growth
about learning who you really are!

Thea has gone through so much! rescued by a Alpha to another tribe... why... how was she worthy...?

This beautiful story shows so much emotion, pain and suffering, the small steps towards healing and the cost this can have on yourself as a person!

I LOVED this book...

River has written this so beautifully show casing the reality of mental health how it isnt always easy but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, the writing style is so good and i couldn't put it down i was fully engaged in this fast paced novel!

highly highly reccomended!!!

Verdantis is an absolute page-turner that had me hooked from the start. Thea Moonweaver’s story is heartbreaking and powerful as she endures cruelty in the Hidden Moon Pack after her wolf never emerges. Her journey of healing and self-discovery is written so beautifully, and her character development is incredible to witness.
When Alpha Kieran Blackthorn enters her life, offering respect and safety instead of fear, everything begins to change. Their bond is emotional, patient, and deeply meaningful. But this story is more than romance — Thea’s escape sparks supernatural war and reveals her rare Verdantis power, drawing ancient enemies closer.
Dark, emotional, and impossible to put down, Verdantis is a must-read for fans of strong FMC growth, protective romance, and high-stakes paranormal drama

Have you ever felt alone in a crowded room of people? Unwanted or worthless?
Well, that's how Thea grew up feeling by her entire pack.

This an amazing story about a young woman's healing journey after being abandoned and abuse by everyone she has ever known. The story is amazing, you really feel for the FMC and want to see her healing and finally achieve her her HEA. There is romance but it isn't the focus point of the story, it is part of her journey.
With amazing characters that you can't help but fall in love with and root for. I couldn't put this book down.

100% recommend reading this book.

Absolutely loved this book. Theas abuse and stuggles broke me but reading her fight and become someone she should always be was beautiful. Then we have our golden retriever Alpha, that man who put himself second for everyone and helped Thea even from a far. My favourite character is the demon malleus, I fell in love with him from our first encounter. Hes sassy, Morally grey ish (to start with) and just an absolute terror in the best way. Im so excited for his book to come out

Oh my word! Verdantis is incredible, it's most definitely a book that you won't want to put down.

The female main character development is incredible and it's impossible to not imagine how she feels right throughout the book.

We go on a journey of Healing with the FMC in a tasteful but interesting way. She grows, heals, develops and unravels in a way which the reader can't help but sympathise, relate and reflect.

The most perfect blend of fantasy with a subtle undertone of romance. So if healthy romance without being spicy is your kind of book then this is a must read. I can't wait for book 2.

Not your typical shifter story

Absolutely devoured this book in roughly 28 hrs! I could not put it down. I won't give any spoilers, but this was definitely not your typical shifter story. I felt all the emotions with this one. The first few chapters had me in my feels, fighting back tears. I felt triumph, laughter, love, sadness, anger, just all of it. The story flowed so beautifully with amazing character development, twists & turns, and a happy ending. Highly recommend!

Another winner from River Fox!

I’m a sucker for shifter stories. River Fox’s novels just keep getting better and better. While touching on some very tough subjects, the writing and flow is very easy to follow. While a longer book, it never feels like it. There is never a dull moment. Another one of my favorites!

I just couldn’t stop reading!

Despite the fantasy setting, Thea’s story feels incredibly real. We stand by her every step of the way, experiencing an amazing healing journey from which we can all learn.

The cast is very diverse, with so many different characters and personalities that it’s hard to choose a favorite. I loved the book from beginning to end.

This book changed me in so many ways. Theas growth in this book resonated with me in ways I never thought would be put into words. The story draws you in and you don’t want to stop. When the book ended it left me wanting more. Tears pricking my eyes in joy a bad way but in a beautiful way. I highly recommend Verdantis and I always will from here on out

Verdantis is a rare and beautiful work that captures what so many stories attempt but few achieve — a cast of characters who feel palpably, achingly real. Each person in this book breathes with their own history, fears, and quiet strength. Their individuality is not merely described; it is felt. The author doesn’t just write people — she understands them, and through them, she holds up a mirror to anyone who has ever felt small or undeserving because of their past.

At its surface, Verdantis follows Thea as she tries to find belonging within the Crimson Lake Pack. But beneath that framework lies something deeper: a raw, compassionate examination of survival in the face of relentless pain, and of choosing to live even when life has taught you not to. The writing is visceral and emotionally generous, pulling you into Thea’s struggle with belonging and self-worth until her victories feel like your own.

This is not a light read — it’s heavy, yes, but in the most meaningful way. It’s the kind of story that grips your heart, breaks it, and carefully pieces it back together with empathy and hope. The romance between Thea and Keiran is tender and deeply earned, but the true love story here is between the characters and the world itself — the act of learning to love life again after believing it has no place for you.

Every page radiates the author’s sincerity and courage. You can feel her heart in every line — the pain, the defiance, and ultimately, the compassion. Verdantis is more than a story; it’s a testament to healing, to resilience, and to rediscovering joy in a world that often feels unkind. It is both a haunting and a comfort, and once you finish it, it lingers — like a memory you’re grateful to have lived through.

A Triumphant Arc of Recovery
A stunning fantasy focused on Thea's journey. Her recovery from pack abuse is handled with incredible realism and depth. While Kieran supports her, this is a story about her becoming her true, powerful self.
The world-building is rich—especially the Verdantis lore—and the action is immersive (the Shadow Lands are haunting). The secondary characters form a fantastic found family.
The book is substantial, but the pacing is excellent. A truly supportive, sweet romance takes a back seat to the heroine’s powerful transformation. Highly recommend!
