WOW! I have no words to describe this book, even after processing for 5 days! This is easily one of my favourite mafia romance series ever. After everything these characters have been through, seeing everything come together felt so satisfying. This was action-packed with ALL the feels and ALL the spice. First, we have Max’s relationship with Leona, which, given that he tried to kill her a couple of times, was messyyyy, to say the least. By the end, and after a lot of grovelling, he becomes one of her men. Their relationship progression was beautiful to see. Then we have Cas and Ryuji, ugh *chef’s kiss*, I love it when the boyfriends become boyfriends, and I was SOO happy to see that happen after all the “will they, won’t they”.
One thing I loved about this series is that despite there being six guys, every single one of them is unique and fully developed. Each of them having their own personality made it such an amazing read.

Rachel did it again!

What an amazing sequel and a GREAT series finale (she is thick). It brought everything I wanted to the table: action, romance, spice, bisexual panic and a thrilling plot. Plus, we finally got real enemies-to-lovers (only took 3.5 damn books, but who’s counting?).

Plot-wise, the Shadows are fighting the Camorra to the death while trying to dodge an FBI RICO case. I was genuinely stressed about how this would go down and anticipated the biggest, bloodiest war imaginable. It ended up being a bit more dialed-back than I expected, which I actually loved. It didn't feel overwhelmed by action. It was oddly... cozy? For me, at least.

ALSO: NEW BOYFRIENDS! We absolutely love boyfriends who are boyfriends. Leona, I see you and feel you. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 Ryuji and Cas are elite together. Ryuji was already a top favorite, and seeing Cas get his shit together made me so proud.

Then we have Max. Oh, Max. It was crystal clear (to me, at least) that he was protecting Leona all along. Does he still feel guilty? Obviously. He almost killed her a few times, but we move ooooon. At first, I was skeptical about Max becoming another one of Leona’s men, but I ended up loving it. The redemption arc did its thing, and he finally stopped whining! Jailtime was good for him (haha - I WAS SO STRESSED ABOUT IT).

Rachel actually knows how to write a reverse harem where every single guy is an independently great and fully fleshed-out character. I loved reading their different POVs because they genuinely feel like unique people. Not just interchangeable romance novel men you could swap out with anyone. That’s a huge part of why I love and appreciate this series so much.

It easily ranks as one of my favorite mafia romances ever.

Now, my biggest ick in romance is the pregnancy trope. It’s just not for me at all. Definitely not something I want. But Rachel handled it so well! We just get an epilogue showing Leona 15 years later, heavily pregnant. Since we already know she wanted kids, it felt completely natural for her character rather than forced. Also Wynn being the best stepdad to every kid ever? I giggled, suprisingly.

Thank you for not killing anyone, Rachel.

I am still struggling with my chronic illness, which makes it hard to read as fast as I used to. This book brought a little light to my days, and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to read it early.

If you've been here a while, you'll know I am a long time Rachel bully. 😇 And she loves every second of it. I am so thankful to be at the end of this series, and I mean that in all the best ways and with all the love in my heart because these books have caused me irreparable damage. To not end on a cliffhanger honestly felt... weird. I guess I'm a masochist because I'm kind of sad that I'm not devastated after finishing one of her books.

I have a lot to say but I don't want to spoil anything, especially because if you read this series (which you must) you are playing the longest game ever. Now, that is not in action or spice, but the plot spreads across the entirety of the four (!!!) books.

Rachel does so many things well, her writing is top tier, her plotting is so throughly and disgustingly thought out and planned, she has created the most delicious men with spicy scenes that will have you ignoring your mother for the next year. 🫣 AND OUR FMC'S BOYFRIENDS HAVE BOYFRIENDS. And there are few things I love more than a bi-awakening. We all deserve one. Amen. 🙏

This ending was everything I hoped it would be and more. I cannot wait to see where she takes us next and I can only hope it's a series so that I can continue on with my bullying! 😈

I love Leona. She is so iconic and truly a badass FMC, and I am so proud of her 💞💘🩷💖. She was feeling a little skeptical about how to take down Greco, but with some uplifting from her powerful badass friend group (I love Fallon), she was able to feel more confident in doing this without her guys because she knows they trust her to handle it.

I have been a Max lover from the start 🥹🫶🏽💞🤏🏽!! From the beginning, even though he had betrayed her, I felt there had to be something more to his motives. Max & Leona had such a strong friendship, and she had always been in love with him, so it should have panned out, but then it all went to shit when he killed her father. There was so much tension between them that it was so clear that he had to be part of the why choose. Even when it seemed unclear because he kept pushing them away in the most dramatic ways possible. I’m still so happy that he is part of the Shadows family because from the moment that the betrayal happened, he was villainized, and he was all alone with no friends or family. Meanwhile, the entire time, he was just trying to keep Cas & Leona safe and protect them. The best thing to happen was his POV drop in the previous book. That’s when it was confirmed for me that their story wasn’t over, no matter how much he was in denial about telling Leona his feelings. He was so frustrating to no end because TELL HER YOU LOVE HER 😭🥺💔. But the angst SERVED to the highest degree. I love them!!!! Leona and the others made him grovel on his knees, and he happily crawled to make amends. He is hopelessly in love with Leona and always has been. He was just willing to sacrifice himself for her safety. Even if it meant not having her at all. Plus, he has a lion tattoo on his back for her that he used to remind himself of his purpose, even when he was slowly losing himself. I adore him truly. This wouldn’t be MY review if I didn’t go on and on about Max. He found a place among them, and I couldn’t be happier.💅🏽💖✨💋

I’d spent years running from a future I thought I could never have. Here it was, right in front of me, and I swore to myself I would not let it slip through my fingers.

I think it’s so special that he learned not to coddle Leona, even as much as he wanted to. That was his problem before; he wanted to do the saving and didn’t think she was capable, but she is a strong badass FMC and CAN. Max might have hated that she put herself in dangerous situations and underestimated her, but it’s because he cares!! He never had bad intentions. So glad she called him out and told him to trust that she could handle herself. That’s where the others differed because they helped her grow into this powerful FMC that took no shit and never once coddled her. I absolutely loved the friendship between Max, Cas, and Leona. I feel like they had so much history that they were difficult not to root for, so even though everything had happened with Max and they were off to the wrong start, sharing is caring, and they all worked well together given the years of history. And Cas taught Max all her favorite sounds 🙂‍↕️👏. Truly an iconic trio.

“I love you. I have always loved you, even when I couldn’t admit it,” I said. “I’m so sorry. For everything. For all of my failures and secrets. For hurting you. For choosing my darkness over you and Cas. I wish I’d never done it. I wish that night—when I was fifteen and I found out your father killed mine—I had told you both the truth.”

Max sacrificing himself took me entirely off guard because I had expected Leona to go through with her sacrifice and figured Obi would punish her. However, it does make sense for Max’s character to want to be the sacrificial lamb, considering he still carried so much guilt for what he did and felt like he had to atone for what he did to them and earn his place in his family. He had already been a Shadow, but this reinforced everyone’s appreciation and love for him after his sacrifice for them. I love him dearly, and it still sucks that he had to be in there for eight months, but I am glad that he wasn’t there for twenty years. I LOVE MAXY. I plan on rereading this series for Max because I am so proud of his development and the ending he got. He deserves all the happiness in the world.

[Ryu & Cas]

Ryu is a shameless flirt, so Cas was unsure of whether what he felt was real or not. Ryu confirmed that it was, in fact, something he wanted to happen, and he knew Cas just had to fall in line. I love how they were both insecure and not sure if it was just teasing banter or in the moment (but they genuinely fell for each other in the process of falling for Leona). I love that they were together for the first time alone, and I loved that Leona was rooting for them, and it felt so natural between them. Cas just wanted Ryu to be serious and not play games, but Ryu genuinely wanted him, and I loved every second. These two were so entertaining, and I LOVED all the scenes between them because of how headstrong both of them are. Ryu is unhinged as ever, but Cas & Leona love it. The others never batted an eye once they got together because it was really inevitable. MY BOYS.

[Obi]

Obi never stopped being a provider to his core. He wanted to make sure Leona was taken care of, had everything she could ever want and desire without having to ask, and he just likes buying her things because he thinks that she’s a queen and she deserves everything that she wants. I love that he felt fear in the end and was second-guessing his decision because he didn’t want to leave Leona on her own if they surrendered, but it was all part of the plan for Max to sacrifice himself, apparently. I love the bond that developed between him and Max because they confided in each other, and the trust built over time.

[Ciel & Wynn]

“And if we find out Greco has learned of this, I will destroy everything your fingers have ever touched. There won’t even be circuits left when I’m done with it.”

Ciel would be all cute and soft with Leona and Wynn, but then would throw out threats to anyone who could potentially hurt the family, and I was reminded of how scary he really was. He is also super smart, but it’s a constant reminder with how quickly he gets things done. I love him so much. Wynn & Ciel were precious to me. They didn’t have as many scenes with Leona in this book, in my opinion, and they did blend into the background, but when they were around, they were so loved by me. Leona loved that her guys loved each other too, and Ciel and Wynn knew to love on her too. It was love all around for everyone.

[Friendships]

I love Chiara and Leona’s friendship. In a book with so much male energy, I’m glad she had her Willow, Zoya & Fallon 💗💓💞💕!! She supported her every step of the way and wanted to make sure she wasn’t traumatized after she was taken, even though Chiara felt supported because of Luca. When it came down to Enzo wanting Chiara with him, she stood on business and told him that she wasn’t property. Tell him again!!! All the women were super supportive and knew they were all badass and uplifted each other, and it was just positive energy all around. I love that they all counted on each other and never hesitated to support.

I can’t believe that was the end!!! I loved this book so much. The epilogue was the cutest ever and truly the happy ending they all deserved. Max still feeling like he needs to prove himself, he doesn’t! They all had a baby of their own except Wynn, but they are all dads and are supportive of all their babies. OH I LOVED IT. It was super adorable, and I love how Ryu was still being chaotic as ever. This was so wholesome, and I am glad that Greco got taken down by Obi, who realized that family was way more important to him than taking over New York entirely, and gave up the Camorra to Lucia. I think everyone came so far, and I am proud of how they were all really a family, accepted Max as a Shadow, appreciated his sacrifice, and missed him as much as Leona. There were duos, trios, and I loved all the dynamics, but special shout-out to Ryu & Max, Max & Obi, and Max, Cas & Leona. The common denominator is that I love and adore Max. He is truly worthy of all the love, and he deserves his happy ending with his baby boy. I need more.

Okay. It's over. I need a moment. Actually, I needed several moments, and I took all of them before I could sit down and write this, because "Fall Before Her Throne" is the kind of finale that guts you, stitches you back up with gold thread, and then hands you a knife and says "one more time, for old times' sake."

I read this as an ARC, which means I got to suffer through the ending of this series before basically anyone else, and honestly? I don't know if that's a privilege or a punishment. Both. It's both.

Picking up exactly where Caught in the Crossfire left off, the book throws Leona and her men straight into the fire: they have to flee together, keep Max alive, and hole up in a safehouse Obi bought like it was nothing (because to him, it was nothing, the man could probably buy Manhattan out of spite). From there the plot only speeds up. The Shadows call in every favor anyone has ever owed them, pull every last thread they've got left, and it all builds to Leona finally, fully stepping into her Queen role and kicking the last domino down herself. I won't say more than that. I refuse to be the person who spoils the ending of a series this good.

What I will talk about is the emotional wreckage of Max and Leona. Their shared history, the lies, the betrayal, the sheer mess of it, finally gets the spotlight, and it is devastating in the best way. Max spends half this book too scared to even say the words out loud:

"I couldn't tell her, because there was no way she would ever truly forgive me. I had no right to her. No right to speak the words aloud. I didn't deserve them, or her. And when she woke up and realized that, the pain of her loss would be more acute than anything I'd ever felt before."

And then, because R.E. May clearly enjoys destroying me personally, he does say it:

"I love you. I have always loved you, even when I couldn't admit it. I'm so sorry. For everything. For all of my failures and secrets. For hurting you. For choosing my darkness over you and Cas."

Did I hope she'd add him properly to her men? Absolutely. Did it happen? Absolutely. Was there groveling involved? Reader, there was so much groveling, and I would like to personally thank Wynn for demanding it on all our behalves:

"Go on," Wynn said softly. "Crawl. Earn it."

The tension between all six of them and Leona is off the charts even before everything is resolved, her men trust her completely, unconditionally, no questions asked, which after four books of build-up hits exactly as hard as it should. And can we talk about Ryuji and Caspian for a second? Because whatever is happening between those two is so hot and so well written, and I love that this found family gets its own internal couple bringing the heat too.

By the end I was, once again, completely in love with every single one of them: Obi, who finally understands that real safety was never about ultimate power, only about his family; Max, who doesn't just get forgiven but learns to forgive himself, and sacrifices everything for the people he loves; Ryuji, loud and a lot and somehow still one of the most emotionally honest people in the room; Caspian, the loyal bodyguard who lets himself be protected for once, not just protect; Ciel and Wynn, who spend this book simply getting to enjoy what they fought so hard for across the last two; and my Queen Leona, fully arrived, fully badass, with six men handing her the match so she can burn the world down, while she protects them exactly as fiercely as they protect her.

Leona said it best herself, so I'll let her close this out:

"Inevitable and insatiable. That's what my men and I were together."

Five stars isn't enough. Ten wouldn't be enough. I'm just going to go sit with my feelings about this ending now.

P.S.: When do I get let into the group chat with Fallon, Willow, Zoya, Leona, and Chiara? That has to be the most entertaining collection of confident, smart, terrifying women in fiction, and I deserve to be a fly on that wall.

Not gonna lie, I have been WAITING for this fourth book because I absolutely freaking love this series. And ohhh, it was so worth the wait. Fall Before Her Throne was an amazing finale and gave me everything I wanted action, romance, spice, tension, and a plot that absolutely SHINED.

This book felt like the final piece on the chessboard, where the long game we’ve been watching throughout the series finally comes to an end. And damn, what an ending.

Leona and her men have been through SO much, and seeing her come into her power throughout these books has been one of my favourite parts. She has grown into such a strong, badass woman, and I loved seeing everything finally come together for her. And the guys... ohhh, those swoony freaking men. I love that they each bring their own personalities and completely different relationships with Leona. Some of those relationships continue to evolve, while there mayyy be someone who is old but new at the same time who could change things... or will he? THAT IS ALL YOU'RE GETTING FROM ME. Because nope I'm not spoiling anything.

But I WILL tell you that the tension had me gripping my damn Kindle the entire time. This book made me swoon, cry, worry, laugh, get mad, get ridiculously happy... basically the whole damn emotional spectrum. The pacing, the writing, the character development, the way everything finally came together, it was beautiful.

As the final book in the series, I'm so damn happy they got their happily ever after... but I'm also genuinely sad that it's over. I really, REALLY hope we get to see more from this world because I'm not ready to leave it yet. I can't thank you enough, R.E. May, for this ARC. Thank you for giving us this amazing series and for giving Leona and her men the ending they absolutely deserved.

The Lovely: I love these characters so darn much and I think I had forgotten just how much. I will forever care for the FMC and her men—even if I still have trust issues with one of them. They each love her so deeply in their own way, and I especially loved how much they care for, love and protect each other. Their relationships have been one of my favorite parts of this series from the beginning and that absolutely held true here.

Also Lovely:I was pleased with how the story line involving the big bad was wrapped up. After everything these characters have been through, seeing that part of the story come together felt satisfying.

Recommendation: I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters, but I liked where their story ended. If you like a dark why choose mafia romance with emotional damage, strong relationship dynamics and increasing spice, I think you would love this series.

okay, it's been four days, and i need y'all to know that Fall Before Her Throne is STILL running through my head nonstop.

it really all boils down to this novel. Leona has all her men with her (right?), she has control of New York & her dad's/Max's former men, and she has a vision: get the Camorra out of New York City. simple, yeah?

NO. not simple! because Piero Greco is a MENACE and thinks he can take over the city, dissolve the modern mafia, and have Leona listen to him (which, LMFAO). Fall Before Her Throne takes you through Leona & The Shadow's final battle with the Camorra while their own family battles its own inner turmoil.

R.E. May (the E stands for Evil) took me on such a rollercoaster with FBHT. she gave me a redemption ARC for someone I resisted liking (but ended up LOVING), brought the Queens Group Chat back and made me swoon over the girls once again, anddddd brought the SPICE. plentiful, beautiful, sweeaaaating spice. oh, and did I mention that more boyfriends are boyfriends this time? because they are, and it's phenomenal.

while I am so sad that this series is officially over, it was a fantastic ending to a mafia series that will ALWAYS be my favorite <3

What an AMAZING series finale!! From start to finish, this book absolutely shredded me in the best and worst ways. Our characters have evolved so much since book 1 and have become this beautiful family. The plot continues, as ominous as ever, with the big Evil Villain being a fat pain in the hole. Like this guy seriously needs to see a psychologist. Our side characters that we know and love really had their time to shine too which makes me want a 5 boon series for each and every one of them.

Honourable mention: the “new addition” to our “plot” (wink) actually threw me. Like, I was hoping for it but I didn’t think R.E. May would actually do it. I shall pray at her altar for gifting it to us stans.

I can’t believe this story has come to a close! This book really brought together so many storylines and showed so much character growth. We got the arc of so many characters and really got to see Leona finally reach who she was meant to be.

With so many relationships I feel like it can be hard to ensure everyone’s relationship develops on page, but I felt this was extremely well done. Even in other POV’s all relationships were developing. ESPECIALLY loved watching cas and ryu have their moments - so special.

I was obsessed with Max from the beginning and always will be and it was so interesting to get his perspective, the thoughts behind the exterior. It’s such a different and deeper understanding. The epilogue had me in TEARS. Pacing was great.

I am excited to see more from this universe and author. Highly recommend.

I have been anticipating this release all year and it was so good. I love how satisfying this ending to the series, I felt like I could keep reading more about each character while also being happy with ending. I love how each character loves Leona in their own way. Each has a special relationship with her and I love how the others characters love stories develop in the book as well. I love how their connections do not lesson the relationship they have with Leona. There’s plenty of love to be shared between everyone. I will be re-reading again when it comes out. Without giving any spoilers I love when a character begs!!. If you have not read the series please go read. This is one of my top Why Choose books. Their story is finally over, and the conclusion was actually good!! This was pretty long but there was so much to it that it was fine. Max was finally able to join the harem after much groveling and atoning for his sins. He is definitely a masochist and did everything the hard way. Casa and Ryu got together, which in a harem of this size makes sense since she only has so many holes. The plan to defeat the big bad guy behind all their problems makes themselves known and Leonora and her men have to take them down. Omg what an amazing way to finish this fantastic series. I came across the 1st book on Tik Tok and downloaded it straightaway. Such a well written series with a lot of content. Yes there are Spicy scenes aswell.
Can’t wait to read the bonus scene on 15th September.
Loved the relationship between them all. Gutted it’s all over. But I will definitely re read them again.

When I say I devoured this book, I mean DEVOURED. My entire Saturday was devoted to the shadows and it was SO worth it. But then the loss of realizing their story is complete? I feel like I’ve been put through the wringer here. 😂 Fall Before Her Throne was the perfect conclusion to the series. The character development, relationship building, and spice throughout the series has been top tier! This series is an absolute must read for mafia romance lovers.

The stakes were higher than ever, the tension was off the charts and the romance? I have three words: “CRAWL👏TO👏HER!!!” 🫠🥵

This is a why choose romance where she has boyfriends… and her boyfriends also have boyfriends! It’s a full house to say the least!! But I love how each character brought something different to the relationships they share, with plenty of banter to lighten the mood amidst all the mafia chaos!!

The spice was absolutely scorching in this installment but I appreciated how the plot was not sacrificed for it. There was still plenty of revelations and secrets to uncover that kept me engaged from start to finish!

Everything I wanted from the finale was here, and then some. If you’re in the market for a mafia romance with badass FMC’s possessive AF men, jaw dropping plot twists, danger, secrets and epic found family vibes, this series needs to be on your TBR! .

I absolutely devoured this book following a reread of the previous books. I could not put this book down. Fall Before Her Throne is the best conclusion to the series, picking up right where book 3 left off. It kept me firmly in my seat through all the action and the spice. The men each have their own personalities that shine through in utter perfection to the point where I cannot pick just one..of course, with this series there is no choosing.

Each one provides culture, personality, and history but will always stand by her. The found family aspect is done so well. Who doesn’t love with boyfriends are boyfriends! Loved this book liked seeing then together as a family. Got a fuck it moment between Ryuji and Cas. Also cute moments between all of them and got Leona and Max together. Good group scene were the boyfriends are boyfriends. Liked seeing her with girl friends as well outside the guys. Has epilogue after 15 years with them titter and with kids .
