A chilling message from the capital drags Emily Slate out of safety and back into the storm, to confront her greatest threat yet.
After receiving a devastating call, Emily and Zara are forced to return to D.C. to confront the conspiracy that has splintered the FBI and put their lives at risk.
But the city of magnificent intentions hides more than just political secrets. Two agents, sidelined like Emily, are found dead under suspicious circumstances, signaling the sinister forces at work are escalating their plan.
With the FBI under direct attack, the rules no longer apply. Stripped of her badge’s protection, Emily finds herself outside the law for the first time, racing against a shadowy adversary with more than just her career on the line.
Navigating a labyrinth of lies without her standard arsenal, Emily must rely on her wits and Zara's unshakeable loyalty. They are all that stand between the FBI and its complete destruction. As the body count rises and the web of deceit tightens, Emily faces a chilling How do you catch a traitor in an organization built on trust?
In the seventeenth pulse-pounding installment of the Emily Slate series, Alex Sigmore delivers a tale where loyalty is tested, and the most dangerous enemies are those hidden in plain sight.
This is quite possibly the longest series I have bothered to read yet, and I'm still not tired of it. Slate is a good MC, and her relationships with Zara, Liam and even some of her other coworkers are deep and real. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.
Alex Sigmore has delivered another stellar book here folks! You’ll be on the edge of your seat until the very last page.
After receiving a cryptic text notifying them of the death of someone close to them back in DC, Emily & Zara make the pivotal decision to return, in secret, to the city. With shadowy threats everywhere they embark on a wild mission to discover the truth.
I really wasn’t prepared to the cloak & dagger, clandestine mission Emily & Co undertake here. Secret safe houses… coded messages…. double & triple crosses! This installment felt less FBI thriller and more black-ops international espionage. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
All the elements of Emily Slate we’ve come to love are here - namely Emily’s unshakable drive for truth and justice at all costs - but the stakes are much more elevated this time. Not only is her future at the FBI at risk, but so is her whole team’s.
**I received an advance review copy of this book for which I voluntarily chose to write an unbiased review.**
Fire in the Sky, Emily Slate FBI Mystery Thriller Book 17 is a crowning culmination of months of work by Emily and her team to figure out who was responsible for the breach in the FBI's security system.
Author Alex Sigmore has written a crazy quilt of a novel, where the bad guy shifts from person to person, the intrigue builds to unbearable levels and Emily and her team suspect everyone before solving the puzzle.
The team follows the trail from Washington DC to Italy and back, chasing the elusive Intruder. Emily and Zara Foley have to work from outside of the FBI's system because they become fugitives due to the Machiavellian plotting of this intruder.
I found it hard to believe that Emily and gang are on their 17th book already. I feel like she, Zara and Emily's love interest, Coll, have become a part of my life. Alex Sigmore certainly knows how to put depth into his characters. Fire in the Sky gets a 5/5 rating.
And I was very saddened by this whole story. People I liked disappointed me and it was heartbreaking all around. I do love the ending and I can't believe the author made me believe it but I did. And Janice will be missed so much. Poor Emily. Its sad but you really can't trust anyone. There's so much conspiracy intrigue in this book. I was at my wits end wondering how she was going to get out of this jam. I love Liam and the Dogs!
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Reeling from a shocking text message received during their blackout undercover assignment in New Mexico; Emily Slate cannot just sit idle until she and Zara are officially called back to D.C. to get answers.
The agents undercover mission turns clandestine.
By working within the shadows of the Capitol, Emily becomes emotionally shattered what she and Zara discover surrounding Emily's former boss... and consumed by a white hot anger to understand why this badass of an agent was targeted. Getting answers means breaking all of the rules Emily and Zara sworn an oath to uphold while asking their most trusted of colleagues to put their own careers on the line to help undercover the truth- and expose a plethora of secrets shaking the FBI to its core.
It's time for a wild, poignant off- the-books thrill ride.
In one of the most exciting and fast-paced books in this series, a long-time character dies. I don’t want to give too much away since this is such a pivotal moment in this series, but let’s just say our fearless heroine, FBI Agent Emily Slate, wants answers and will do anything and everything to get them.
This is one of my favorite books in this series. Although Emily is singularly focused on finding out how and why this person is dead, and most importantly, who’s responsible, there’s so much going on in getting these answers—explosions, other key players in mortal danger, secret safe houses, a trip to Italy, and more! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Thank you, @AlexSigmore for my free advanced copy.
Reading the Emily Slate series is like being transported. Transported into the world of intrigue, criminals, solving puzzles, fear, life or death yet there is the satisfaction in the end that good guys can win. Can't wait to read the next chapter in the life of the FBI super agents.
An excellent effort on this great FBI Team. A real nail-biter from start to finish with a slew of twists and turns. I somehow missed several books in this series. I need to go back and find them. I’ve followed Emily Slater from the beginning of her journey. Great character.
After 17 books, Sigmore kept us hanging again! I can’t wait for book 18, I’ll be waiting patiently for the July release! This book was a great mystery from start to finish. It had me hanging on the edge, worried for Emily and Zara, fighting mad at Theo, amazed a Liam’s unwavering support and most importantly, the way in which Sigmore has been able to craft characters so full of emotion, love, anger and tenacity you just can’t help but love.
I enjoyed every word of this book. It's intriguing, gripping, and holds tons of surprises. The characters literally come to life. I can't wait for the next adventure with them.
This was the best book I've read this year. Alex, you are a master story teller. I'm so glad I found you, and this series. ( As well as your other series). Absolutely phenomenal book!
Slightly disappointed with this book. Was mostly based on solving the back story, which now that it is “mostly” solved hopefully we can get back on track to Emily and Z solving more murder mysteries.
