Adair Finch is the most powerful warlock in the world, but can he defeat a time god like Aeon, Father of the Zodiac?

Long ago, Finch made a pact with Chronos, the Titan of Time. In exchange for the ability to rewind time up to 24 hours, Finch agreed to safeguard Chronos’s newest child—whenever Chronos decided to have one.

That day has come. Finch must protect the time god egg, keeping it out of the hands of random bounty hunters, werewolves, vampires, assassins, and even Aeon, a rival time god.

To lay low until the egg hatches, Finch heads to Tahoe City. A local woman called his PI firm in the hopes he could find her missing son, and Finch believes it’s the perfect distraction while he waits for the egg to hatch.

Unfortunately, Tahoe is already plagued by magical problems. And to make matters worse, Aeon knows whenever Finch rewinds time, allowing the time god to track all of Finch’s moves…

I love the unusual magic system and the characters SO MUCH, and should really be writing a proper review on the first book, but for now, please consider this an enthusiastic recommendation for the series!

You'd perhaps think that a warlock MC who can rewind time up to 24hrs might be overpowered for a regular US-based urban fantasy story, or that repeating the same time sequence might get boring -- but that's absolutely not the case. It's written in a very reader-friendly way, with consistent and well-paced plot & character development, skips whenever a further repetition would be too much, and subtle nudges if a particular piece of information might not be front-of-mind.

On that note, these books have excellent "The Story So Far" summaries from book 2 onwards, why isn't this the law for every book?!

Should be much more widely read than they currently are -- check them out.

Time God Warlock by Shami Stovall is the fourth book in "The Chronos Chronicles". Each book in this series seems to be better than the last, and they are all great. Time God Warlock is full of action, adventure, and character growth. The growth we see from the main characters is a great setup for what's to come in the next book. Although each book comes to a satisfactory conclusion, this one gives a hint of things to come in the next book, Anti-Magic Warlock. I am very much looking forward to reading it when it is published.

I was blessed to read this in one day. It was such a fun and captivating story.

Adair Finch is such a good person. Yes, he's not perfect, but he's close...just ask Fox Pistol, she'll agree (oops...keep that on the DL).

Kull and Enzo are great characters...bouncing off ideas and magic into whatever case they're on.

I loved this case...and how it all panned out. Not perfect, but pretty damn close.

There were a few spicey scenes, but not spicey at the same time. The author knows how to write up to the line...and leave things to the imagination. That's going to be interesting to follow...as the series unfolds.

Loved the kids and what they added to the case. Adair's magical gift is so interesting.

There was ONE point in the story that I caught an error, but then realized it was supposed to have happened "that way", and I understood why she did it that way. So well done. I perked up, in bed and nudged my wife to tell her about it...then a few pages later, had to tell her that I'd been got.

Really enjoyed Smudge. The cast of characters keeps growing, but that's fine with me.

I do hope Travis fulfills his goals. That, again...will be interesting.

I wonder what's going to happen with the Centipede. Hmmm?

Again, a wonderful tale, and now I have to wait...again.

The Time God Warlock is the fourth book in Shami Stovall’s The Chronos Chronicles Series. Stovall continues to knock it out of the park with these books, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series. While I, of course, recommend this book, I highly encourage any interested reader to start with the beginning book, Time-Marked Warlock.

For a plot summary, I suggest you look to Amazon or Goodreads. That said, Adair, the titular warlock, has an ever growing posse, which is the case here. Newest edition is the pudwudgie named Smudge. A pudwudgie is a type of rarely seen Goblin with the ability to create delusions. Adair had rescued Smudge and set him free in book 3. The Time God Warlock satisfactorily resolves the mystery presented in this book, and leaves a cliff hanger for the next, along with a new addition to the crew.

One disadvantage to a large cast of characters is that not every one has a role in each book, but I can’t complain when the characters are so good you are left wanting more. I especially missed Bree, an apprentice, but also having minimal roles in this book are her father, and Adair’s sister in law Jessie. Making up for their absence, in addition to Smudge is a member of internet star Fox-Pistol’s entourage: Garret, or Garinmirgorthan the Error, a spirit of delusion.

While Adair’s special power is the ability to rewind time up to 24 hours, in book four, Adair limits his use of this power. The quality of these stories is also based on the nature of the villains, and once again Stovall does not disappoint. We have a time god in opposition to Chronos, and a bounty hunter given special ability to track Adair. One aspect to Stovall’s work is the author’s innate kindness that she imbues Adair with, and which I noticed in Knightmare Arcanist [book 1 of the Firth Chronicles]. In book 3, Adair rescued a cat from a meth factory, hence the nickname Meth, and I have already mentioned Smudge. In The Time God Warlock, Adair handicaps himself by refusing to kill the Bounty hunter Holt, recognizing that he has done good in the past and that he is acting under a compulsion in this story.

A 5* recommended book [but read the whole series!].

A stomping good time

Time God Warlock by Shami Stovall is an absolute blast! The fourth book in the series delivers everything you’d want — a propulsive adventure, sharp character moments, thrilling set-pieces, and, best of all, stakes that are small, personal, and beautifully human.

One of the things I admire most about Stovall’s writing is her economy of words. She writes for readers who already understand the rhythm of urban noir fantasy, so she doesn’t waste time over-describing scenery or mood. Instead, she pours her energy into crafting characters, relationships, and emotional depth. She’s devoted to the story itself — not showing off her prose — and that’s a huge part of why I’m such a fan.

The Chronos Chronicles has quickly become one of my favourite ongoing series, and after this ending? I can’t wait to jump into the next book

Another great read in the Chronos Chronicles. I was glad Kull came back to be part of solving the mystery this time as well! She is my favorite!! I'm enjoying the unfolding of the greater series mystery with Gixmoth, and liked how neatly the book's individual mystery was buttoned up. Also really enjoyed the character developments for Enzo :) And a certain relationship I've been hoping for!!

Another great story!

This series only gets better. Added pressure and more characters, and wove in a way to reduce the overall number of resets while still making them part of the story. This feels on another level, excited to see what happens next!

I don't normally write reviews, but this one
...I have to.
a great entry to a growing series, moving plot, great characters slowly developing the more we learn.

Warning, 1st time ever this book will end on a cliffhanger! (normally a star off)

Still 5 stars, even with an annoying character troupe, shows how well the other characters are.

Do you know that thing when you’ve read some of a series and it’s really good, like some of the best good you’ve read in a long while and then you have to wait for the next book in the series.  And you wait, and wait and then it finally comes (note - this is entirely subjective, wait and wait could actually equal a week and a half in some situations)?  And you get the book and put it on your reading stack, next in line, or your Kindle, or whatever, and then you don’t read it.  You mean to, you really want to, but you don’t.  Some other book takes precedence.  Maybe you’re reading another series and you have the next one, and then the next one, to read, or maybe something catches your eye because it’s shiny.  That’s not really what it is though.  It’s a deep down fear that the next one isn’t going to be as good as the last one.  You’re sure that it will be as good or better but there’s just that irrational fear.  If you don’t pick it up right away…. your subconscious takes over and it just doesn’t get started.   It should be noted, for authors encountering this in their fans, that this only really happens with the books/series that readers love the most.  It’s counterintuitive for sure, that it’s the things that you wait for the hardest that get delays in being started, but it’s true.

This happened to me with Time God Warlock.  According to Goodreads I downloaded it on Nov 19th.  I started it yesterday and finished it today.  (In fact, I did attempt to start it over xmas break but I was staying somewhere that I didn’t have the wifi for and my Kindle had done that annoying thing that it does now where it only downloads the books’ titles to your library and you have to actually select it before it downloads the whole book.)

I have absolutely loved the Chronos Chronicles series.  The books have been exceptionally enjoyable.  Good mysteries, excellent characters, fabulous interactions.  Time God Warlock didn’t disappoint in the slightest (but will my brain learn…probably not).  It was fantastic.  Finch and Enzo are as fascinating and awesome as ever and far more importantly Kull is back with a vengeance, being her precocious mischievous self in spades.  I adore their interactions.  We also find out that Lake Tahoe is a kind of supernatural phenomena free-for-all, which seems completely fitting.  Stovall is able to bring us new and different stories that don't mold to a form but remain true to her world and characters. This story does not dissapoint. A missing child case tugs at Finch's heartstrings and drives him hard to a solution at the same time as he has the complicating factor of a mysterious god egg and a terrifying relentless bounty hunter chasing it/him.

If I had one complaint about this book at all, it is that it is paced so well that I rocketed through it in just a couple of days.  Absolutely recommend as a must read.  Not as a stand-alone though, should read the whole series.

Having just finished the fourth and latest installment of the Chronos Chronicles I find myself sitting in awkward silence, awestruck at the awe-inspiring awesomeness I have just borne witness to, just thinking "Awww, I have to wait for the fifth book now, which is awful" if this book were a Tom Clancy novel, it would be called "The Sum of All Awe". It is that freaking good.

Look, I know that occasionally I have raved about how great a book is, like an unhinged wombat on LSD, but seriously this book almost melted my eyes in my skull with how great it was. (Yes, I do know that having my eyes melted in my skull is not something one would generally categorize as "great", but they didn't actually melt, and that is what makes it so great)

It reminds me of a prophetic vision I once had, which I believe someone stole and slightly modified for a song and then stiffed me on the writer's credit. It's okay though, I had a vision about that too and came to terms with it many years ago.

These were the words recorded by my faithful scribes, which I unfortunately had to feed to a ravenous pack of hyenas for giving my prophecy to some singer.

Just remember, in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows. Lies the words that with her son's love, in the spring becomes Shami's prose.

Pretty powerful stuff.

To summarize: If you don't buy this book, your soul will languish, frozen in the winter of your discontent, until you stop torturing yourself, buy this book, let the seed of your heart be warmed by the springtime sun that this book represents, and finally bloom into the rose that it was always meant to be.

This series is so much fun.
When Adair made a deal with Chronos for his time power, his part of the deal was to take care of an egg, Chronos’s new child, until the egg hatched.
When a bounty hunter shows up, trashes Adair’s office and threatens him for the egg, Adair, Kull and Enzo head to Lake Tahoe to find a lost child and hopefully escape the hunter. Kull is along because she is trying to learn about dating from Adair and their ‘date’ was interrupted.
Kull makes arrangement for transportation and hotels. That means a party bus and a luxury resort.
In Tahoe, they come across feral werewolves, more than one missing child, a death spirit, a cute goblin and more.
There is some action, surprises, suspense and a lot of humour – Kull and her dating ideas are hilarious.
The whole premiss of this series, being able to turn back time makes things very interesting. Anything you can think of is done and then new ideas are also tried out.
I’m sure the author sits there and thinks what can I try next, and if it doesn’t work the way I want I can always redo it.
This book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger so I’ll be waiting impatiently for the next one.
I loved this book.

Well, well, well, Ms Shami Stovall you have done it again!! One thing this author excels at is leaving you wanting more, she hooks you back in despite the natural conclusion of the story and keeps readers coming back for more. Honestly incredibly underrated- adore the pre book recaps as it saves me from having to dredge up memories. If you like W R Gingell you’ll like Shami Stovall. The time repeats only get boring when the author wants you to see how wearing it is on the characters. My only thing on the final loop of this book is did the team visit Jason’s mum? The end suggested it but I don’t recall but in all fairness the blend together in my head after a while. If you’re looking for a new series this should be it!

My primary problem with this book was that I found Kull incredibly annoying in every scene in which she appears, and she's in pretty much every scene. Despite being a 400 year old spirit, she behaves like a small child.

Everything about her YouTube entourage is worse than she is. This is deliberate, but that doesn't make reading about them any better.

Finch does almost nothing with his time-rewinding powers, especially compared to the earlier books in the series.

It doesn't help that the book ends on a cliffhanger, signaling a major event in the last few pages.

I'm enjoying this series so much, it just gets more interesting each book. I love the recap of the previous book before book 4 actually starts, really helps get me back into the world again in a few pages. This didn't disappoint, I really like how the characters and story is progressing, and I especially love a little romance sub plot! Not every book needs romance but a sprinkling of well written romance elevates my reading experience everytime. I can't wait to read the next book!

Wow, Adair Finch'es life is absolutely not boring one. He is actually a really positive main character. His actions and decisions helps everyone around him. I really like him as a character with all his flaws and humanity. Great story line so far!!

Finch investigates a missing child while trying to protect the egg of a god from a rival god's agent. Only downside- Stovall describes way too many lines of dialogue as quips or sardonic. But a mild downside.

Another great Adair Finch book.

Here's what I liked:
Kull
I think I've said it before, but I love Kull. She's so... I don't even know how to describe it. Almost everything she experiences is new to her and she throws herself into it with so much enthusiasm, you can't help but love her.
No Bree
Yes, that's actually a positive for me. It's not that I don't like the kid, but she's sometimes a bit too much for me. A bit annoying. A bit too present.
Enzo
His dry humor, mostly directed at Finch, makes me smile every time. The way he looks bad-ass with his sweat pants, tank top and leather jacket, and then pairs that look with crocs.
Few time resets
In all the previous books, every time Finch rewinds time, it is described in full detail how that goes. Every. Single. Time. But this time, because Aeon can track him every time he rewinds (and maybe because they have so much to do), there are just a few rewinds.

Here what I didn't like:
The word Feh
Suddenly characters are using this word and it just sounds dumb. The end.
Finch still saying stuff sardonically
He can also be annoyed or harsh or happy or sarcastic even. But no, it has to be sardonically all the time. And why? He has grown so much, personally, since we first met him, he has no reason to be sardonic. Well, at least he isn't pulling a hand down his face every three sentences anymore.

Conclusion, I very much enjoyed reading this book and can't wait for the next one to come out.
