Eric R. Asher is the author of over 30 titles, including the Vesik urban fantasy series and the YA steampunk series, Steamborn. Look for his upcoming cozy fantasy, The Theme Park at the End of the World, in 2024. He is currently living in St. Louis, Missouri, where the local folklore often finds its way into his Mason Dixon: Monster Hunter rural fantasy series.
After enjoying the first book in the series so much for its slice of life tone, I had to continue to see more of this unique fantasy series set in one of the most fantastical theme parks on earth.
Once again, we follow Ellie, now 19, being the sole human employee in a fairie run theme park which accommodates both the mundane human hours and the more dangerous fairie hours. It's a year of big changes in the park and Ellie taking more responsibility as a new roller coaster opens, Mardi Gras is introduced to the park (much like the Universal Studios versions), a new worker from Japan named Megumi, and more fun surprises. The stakes are very much to the level of typical theme park accidents, and the focus is seeing Ellie and the rest of the park crew and the other characters get through their adventures, and Ellie learning and growing through them, and having some fun moments with her love interest, Cole. The imaginative world building was probably my favorite part of the story, from the rides transforming to the thrilling rides of a regular park to a deadly-to-humans version, and the fun food, as well as the unique events held. By the end, I felt more connected after another year of adventures with this group. There's plenty of humor throughout that had me smile, but this doesn't mean that there isn't a couple of sad moments in this.
Saskia Maarleveld narrates this book with an easy to the ear performance and does the accents well, further immersing me in this world.
Highly recommended if you like theme parks, the fantastical, and a cozy vibe. *I purchased this book on Kickstarter.*
"The Roller Coaster at the End of the World" by Eric R. Asher was such a thrilling and fun read. It is the second book in the series, and it is a great addition. Ellie is by far my favorite character, and I love her excitement of everything amusement park related. I also like the fact that after the park closes, they stay open for all the magical beings. The food mentioned throughout the book has me thinking of all the fun things you can get while at an amusement park. Eric has done such a wonderful job with this series so far, and I can't wait to read the next book. My favorite scene is one of the very last scenes where they surprise Roman. It was such a sweet moment between all of the characters.
This book made me so happy! Eric did a pretty good job describing something pretty indescribable: Mardi Gras. It wasn't quite like NOLA, but for a theme park not in Louisiana, it came pretty close with the energy and atmosphere. There was even less plot than the first book, but i am ok with that. i love the gentle slice of life this book gives. Cozy Fantasy indeed! the ending was super sweet, I teared up a little. I would recommend this to basically everyone!
Ellie and her friends are back at the Theme Park at the End of the World. Park owner Roman has big plans in store for the park. A new roller coaster has just opened and the park is preparing to host a huge Mardi Gras parade. I love this series. I love Eric Asher’s descriptions of the park and its rides. It makes you want to go! I highly recommended this book. It showcases the beauty of found family and the author’s love of theme parks.
Another great peek into the lives of those living at “The Theme Park at the End of the World”. I loved how this one not only showed us a new ride but also covered all of the seasons from before Mardi Gras right up to Haunt Season. Ellie and Cole’s friendship is continuing to grow. And you have to love those theme park vloggers. This book was so much fun to listen too. I highly recommend this series if you like humor, small scares, and theme parks. #CMCon26
Super descriptive, so very vivid. It’s described so well that you feel like you’re in the park yourself. Please don’t listen while on a diet or hungry, lol!
Perfect for this time of year (and likely the only way to ever get me to step foot in a haunted house!).
I love these characters and the feeling of family they have.
The narrator did an amazing job bringing the book to life.
Ellie can’t wait for the newest ride to open, but then things start getting weird, and she has to help figure out what’s happened. Such a delightful story, and such great haunted house themes!!
This is a great book if you want to sit around, eat snacks, and add no stress to your life at all. It passes the vibe check, but it doesn't really have a plot.
Another great installment of this series! It is clear the author has a true appreciation of all things theme park! His description of Ellie’s first ride on the Furie’s Fall was amazing! I really would love to ride that coaster!! There will be some mysteries to solve before they can rest easy in the glory of the new ride! Such a creative story. I also love that I was able to get a map of the park and a brochure of the characters – great touch and was fun to look at while reading!
